With Steam NextFest coming up soon, all of my focus on the project has been focused on providing a complete and engaging experience for the demo (which is now live).
The full game has entered it's alpha stage and is now undergoing play testing, while the demo featuring a condensed version of the purist mode is available now!
Remember, streaming the demo, submitting feedback, or recording gameplay and submitting it to backroomsff@hotmail.com will earn you a place in the full games credits as well as your name featured in one of many Easter Eggs!

Mechanics and Lore
As many might have noticed, the trailer for The Backrooms: Found Footage dropped last week, and there were several developments revealed that I have yet to discuss in detail! The first round of entities are complete- this includes all of the strange and anomalous beings you may encounter during levels 0-2. The trailer revealed footage of the most dangerous one yet, the Smiler.
Another apparent change is the visuals, which was to be expected. The main difference is the addition of volumetric fog, which certainly adds to the claustrophobia-inducing element of the Backrooms, and provides a more even distribution of lighting that an office space typically has.
The "madness effect" has been upgraded and is now much more intense while being less obstructive. The HUD has also been polished overall and madness and hydration, as of now, will be primarily managed by consuming different substances in the Backrooms- carpet water, and Almond Water being the main two at the moment.
The plan as of now, is to release a demo by June 13th, the beginning of Steam Game Fest, with the full release following a few weeks after. Currently, the main game will include "Purist" and "Traditional" mode. These modes will be based on different lore, meaning they will differ in length, story, and entities. The demo will include "Purist" mode, with some minor adjustments as to include a few more features.

The first official trailer for The Backrooms: Found Footage is up! The trailer features game play from the demo build that will be coming in time for the Game Fest on June 13th! Currently the plan is to release Purist mode (The most basic game mode based on the original canon) as the demo. The full release will contain Purist mode, as well as Traditional (Level 0-2), and eventually The Main 9 (Level 0-8).

Transition to Unreal 5
Update #3:
Transition to Unreal 5
While several core features were not functioning properly upon converting from Unreal Engine 5 Early Access to Full Release, these issues have been resolved and the game had been fully integrated into the full release of the engine.
Taking this opportunity to clean up under the hood, I have also spotted several opportunities to expand the scope of the game overall, with minimal to no impact on the release date. The game will now include several game modes based on the accepted canons of the backrooms, this means more items, more maps, and more levels!
