Beta 1.1.0 - Coming January 19th latest (sorry for delays, big update)
Been having technical issues to deal with that have slowed me down. Sorry for the delays. It will be soon.
Maps:
Upgrading from Unreal Engine 5.0 to Unreal Engine 5.1, which will allow the use of nanite without giant chunks of the game becoming incompatible with VR. This will make Kyoto Dreams VR compatible and will mean the game is overall more optimized. This might help stabilize the game on 10 series graphics cards.
Will include the new District #3 of The Poolrooms which is the largest Poolrooms map to date and will feature a fully fleshed out underwater labyrinth.
District #2 of The Poolrooms has been expanded with a new area.
New texture for the surface of water when viewed from underwater.
Kyoto Dreams has received an expansion and looks beautiful.
A preview for Level 0.1
Weapons:
Improvements to the ammunition system; Guns will each have different ammo types and separate ammo counters.
Guns will now do a different amount of damage based on range.
Each gun will deal a different amount of damage overall.
Guns will now take time to reload instead of it being instant and there will be a reload animation.
New Gun SFX.
Sawed Off Shotgun added.
Bolt-Action Rifle added.
Two new Automatic Assault Rifles added.
A Firesalt Gun that shoots incendiary ammo added.
A weapon that shoots a sustained laser burst added.
Player:
Can now "Sprint" while swimming.
Small white dot no longer visible in middle of VR (it's used to select items in regular mode)
Crouching added which will open up future possibilities for level design.
You will now receive a notification when drowning and special drowning music will play.
You will now receive a notification when dying of thirst, starving or going insane.
Entities:
Partygoers have been redesigned so they now freeze in place when you are looking and move incredibly fast the moment you look away. They will regularly get the jump on you and you'll know there's one moving off screen by the creaking sound they make.
Other:
Random item cabinets.
Random weapon crates.
FPS lock options to reduce GPU usage.
Main Menu bug fixed where it wouldn't let you use the mouse to click the buttons.

Beta 1.0.5 - Coming Soon
Will include the new District #3 of The Poolrooms which is the largest Poolrooms map to date and will feature a fully fleshed out underwater labyrinth. No official date yet for this one as I'm waiting for the release of Unreal 5.1 which makes the new Nanite system compatible with VR finally. That will allow me to make big optimizations to the game without having to make levels incompatible with VR.
Small update coming soon - Beta 1.0.4
I wanted to do a little update by November 3rd at the latest. This update will include:
A full version of Level -1 'Glitched Halls', including a level survival guide.
A full version of Level -1.1 'Inverted', including a level survival guide.
An additional room added to Kyoto Dreams and some new models for the level.
New underwater areas in The Poolrooms.
Added physics based swimming pool floats that are in some areas of the Poolrooms.
Vending machines for Liquid Breath and Energy Bars.
The new items from last update are now scattered around the levels.
Fixes another inventory bug that I found
Fixes the bug where in VR if you use the pointer while holding a gun, it makes the torch appear when you stop using the pointer.
Adds musical jingles to all of the vending machine types.
Improves Level Fun sound design.
I can't remember if I did this last update or this update, but in the VR Main Menu, the menu no longer follows your eye so you can more easily read it.
Updated the credits.
Updated the version number in the main menu which I forgot to do last time.
Beta 1.0.3 coming soon
Sorry for the delays with this one. I got carried away adding new content and there was some stuff that came up in my personal life that I had to deal with for a bit.
The update will now include:
The inventory bug is fixed.
Going to test VR to make sure there are no VR specific bugs.
A preview for the level Kyoto Dreams (However it will not work in VR until Unreal Engine devs patch a bug with next update).
A preview for Level Negative 1, Glitched Halls.
There are now different types of vending machines for various items. The vending machines give you the items instead of just refilling your stats.
Vending machine locations are now randomized, as well as what type of vending machine it will be.
New items including: Several flavors of Lucky O' Milk, First Aid Kit, Antipsychotics, Caffeine pills, Royal Rations and Paprika Pumpkin Puffs.
And it will be ready by the 25th of October.
I'm also planning on doing a total overhaul of the Steam page soon. The trailers and screenshots are all out of date now and there's so much more to show off.
Update coming soon with several fixes and improvements
I'm planning on releasing a new update in about a week or so with some general fixes and improvements. These include:
A functioning Sanity mechanic with auditory hallucinations and visual effects.
Improvements to the Smiler Entity including: It should now stay in the dark and new placeholder animations.
Improvements to the Partygoer Entity including: More menacing sound design and increased size.
New gameplay option to disable guns.
New gameplay option to change the difficulty of survival mechanics.
The option to disable entities has been expanded to include difficulty options for entities.
Some of the Levels have been splintered off into a separate map, which should decrease load times and make the game use less RAM. There will now be an elevator to take you between the Poolrooms and Level 0.
I've increased the frequency of level unloading so the game will use less RAM.
Fixed a bug where you wouldn't die if you ran out of health from hunger or thirst.
The drowning mechanic is now fully functional so don't stay underwater too long!
Level Fun has received an expansion with new rooms and some old rooms getting a redesign.
Adds planned upcoming levels to the main menu so you can see a preview of the level and its description.
Possibly more.
There's a man going around suing Backrooms Developers and YouTubers
Juan de Dios Gomez Angeles is a Mexican amateur writer who is trying to claim ownership of the backrooms as a concept. He has threatened me with legal action and has said that he is compiling a list of basically every Backrooms game developer and creative to sue them. He claims to be the creator of the Backrooms and that my game was inspired by his book that I’ve never even heard of. Assuming this guy only has copyrighted two books, he has no legal basis for doing this, even if there are similarities, so it would be a frivolous lawsuit. You can’t copyright names, titles or ideas. Copyright would be for the literal word for word text of his book, which none of us are infringing on. Either way this guy says he’s already suing Kane Pixels, a 17 year old…
When asked directly: Also are you planning on suing other backrooms creators like Kane Pixels, MattPatt, Broogli, all the other backrooms creators on youtube? All 3 backrooms wikis? All 35 backrooms games on Steam How about the writers of backrooms subgenre books?
His response: Yes, there is already a federal investigation pursuing all that People and adding New ones with links and channels. I have slready lawsuited kane and a largo list of content and video game creators
I'm not the only one he's contacted and threatened with a lawsuit.
This affects every Backrooms game developer and creative and I think we should all try and notify our audiences of what’s happening. #BackroomsDevsUnite #BackroomsCreatorsUnite
