Hello,

we have released a new update today adding new content and fixing various bugs! As usual, another update will be out late next week too! Cheers!

Added a new level theme
Added a new entity
Two new achievements
Added almond water item
Two new weapons, similar to the Musket; The Blunderbuss and Flintlock Pistol
Fixed revive panel still sometimes showing when revived
Added blood drips from ceilings that appear in torture rooms, can be drunk at expense of sanity
Fixed ceiling lanterns flickering
Fixed a bug where starting a multiplayer game will clear your single-player save data
Player skin is saved for single-player games
Fixed dropping items in multiplayer dropping the item at the host's position instead of yours
Fixed a bug where Psychiatrist sanity was not updating/displaying correctly
fixed a bug where entities sometimes move VERY fast
Fixed a bug with the "Hound" that sometimes prevented him from dealing damage to players
Fixed a bug where you can sometimes take damage when a different player is hit
Added two new skins: A male soldier and a female soldier
fixed bug where dancing shadow lady would spawn endless hostile entities in multiplayer

MULTIPLAYER - OUT NOW!

Multiplayer is out now! Thank you all for your patience in waiting! We will return now to weekly updates from next week, adding additional content such as the usual new levels, entities, items, and so on.

Multiplayer gameplay works the same as singleplayer: explore the level and find ways to the next, while picking up items and avoiding entities. Of course, the only difference is other players will be with you!



Features:
-Any player can host a room of up to 6 players
-different player skins/models to choose from (more will be added)
-Create private rooms (others will need the name to join) or public (will appear in the lobby and anyone can join
-Proximity voice chat (can be disabled in settings)
-PvP, players can kill/attack/damage each other. All your items are dropped on death so you can kill and loot players
-a "revive"/Ressurection system: When another player is killed by an entity, they will enter a "stunned" mode where they will have a countdown timer until they die. Another player can revive them before the counter reaches 0 and they will come back with a third of max health. The countdown time reduces each time until it can no longer work and you will die without being able to be revived
-the "revive" system only works if you are killed by an entity, so if another player kills you, you will instantly die and drop all your items to be looted

As expected with a huge new update, there will be some bugs. Please report any bugs, no matter how small, so they can be patched throughout the week!

Announcement: Upcoming Multiplayer!

Hello!

This is just a quick announcement to explain why there hasn't been an update for the past two weeks - we are working on multiplayer for The Backrooms: Survival!

Since our early access launch, multiplayer has been heavily requested so we decided to work on implementing multiplayer sooner rather than later. Multiplayer game modes will include co-op as well as PvP, where players will be able to join or host online matches/games, or browse existing ones via a lobby system.

Multiplayer is currently being worked on and we aim to make it playable within the next two weeks! Stay tuned for the next announcement in two or so weeks when multiplayer is live!

In the meantime, if you have any suggestions for multiplayer mechanics or features, don't hesitate to leave them in the steams discussions or via our official discord below:

Edit: For some of those concerned about multiplayer affecting the development of the single player experience and general development progress, I can confirm that after the breif multiplayer implementation period we will return back to releasing weekly content updates (sometimes more) with new content, bug fixes etc just as we were prior to working on multiplayer!

Update #006!

Update number 6 is now live!

Changes:
-Added a new level theme: "Sewers" type level. This level is the biggest in size and space so far.
-New entity that spawns only in sewers (although some other entities are in the sewers also)
-Entities can now also hear you and other noise. Your footsteps make noise. Sprinting is the loudest, crouching the quietest. This means you need to be careful if just running around aimlessly
-Entities can hear other noises like doors opening, lights popping, etc. The louder the noise, the further away they can hear it from.
-added a setting to enable shadows for everything (must be enabled in graphics settings)
-Added a musket weapon, a single shotgun that uses lead ball ammunition. Both are rare and must be found separately
-Added a backpack that can be found and increases your maximum inventory by 5 slots
-added an "unemployed" profession that provides no benefit but it is good for hardcore players looking for a challenge!
-smilers now cannot jumpscare you if you have a light source out (candle, flashlight, lantern) that has fuel and is lit
-Vents now spawn further away from the player, this prevents going to a new floor and seeing a vent right above you as an easy skip
-Fixed a bug where "spamming" the use key button on a vent can cause you to skip multiple levels
-Fixed a bug where being killed by fire gives you the ending "Killed by entity", it now shows accurately as "Death by accidental causes"
-Fixed a bug where players' arms/weapons still showed as pixelated if you turned off PSX settings
-Added "glowsticks", found in boxes of 30, can be dropped to leave a dim light and act as a trail
-You can now not jump if your stamina is empty
-Weapon swinging uses and requires a small amount of stamina
-Added smashable crates that can be smashed with weapons and may have items inside (does not cost weapon durability)
-fixed ambient noises still playing on dead/game over screen
-Fixed lightbulb popping audio not being adjusted by jumpscare volume SFX
-psychiatrist now starts with two sanity pills
-Fixed a visual bug where pick up notification didn't show for weapons
-Fixed a visual bug where the panel for picking up notifications
-Fixed a bug where pausing while the pickup notification typing text is still scrolling causes it to stop and remain unfinished
-Fixed some typos
-Fixed a bug where you could jump on the "moleman" entity's head

-Fixed a glitch where sometimes going to the new level the player immediately falls through it with text loop
-Fixed the "invisible hound" glitch where sometimes a hound attacks you but isn't visible
-Poolrooms now have swimming normal sharks also
-Campfires left by other survivors spawn sometimes with a few items around them.

-Set a maximum letter limit for player name to prevent endless text being inserted and thus having strange graphical glitches in-game
-Fixed duplicate torch and arms showing when leaning while holding a torch
-Fixed TV and phone ringing not being tied to any volume sliders and thus being unable to adjust the volume
-TVs, phones, and campfires will not spawn in the Poolsrooms anymore as it doesn't make sense these objects to be underwater

Update #004 Out Now!

Update #004 is now out!

Change:
-Added a new level: Level FUN! This level is slightly different than others as it features more open and bigger rooms
-Added new entities: Partygoers! Only appearing on level FUN, they tend to endlessly stalk you co-ordinating together before giving chase
-Added presents. Only appearing in level FUN, unwrap them for an item... or a surprise!
-Added new ambient SFX
-Added new profession: Cannibal! Can eat dead bodies without hunger/sanity requirements, gains health from eating them, and does NOT lose sanity
-Added new profession: serial killer! Deals more damage to entities. Don't lose sanity when looking at dead bodies

-A handful of items now spawn when starting a new level, as well as more procedurally appearing with time. Makes finding items easier

Update #003 - Quick Patch

Hello,

We've decided to release an extra game update today for "The Backrooms: Survival", a quick patch fixing a few bugs. The weekly updates will still take place this Wednesday also.

Fixes:
-Fixed the "level skip glitch" which can be done with ladders
-Fixed a bug that prevented the "Demon Slayer" achievement from unlocking for some
-Limited the amounts of safes that spawn on levels as there were far too many
-Fixed cosmetic bugs that can cause in some rare cases vents or lights to spawn over ladders
-Fixed a very rare bug with the new pool rooms theme where the ladder could spawn outside of the level
-Batteries are much bigger and sparkle to make them stand out more as previously some players were having issues spotting them
-Fixed a bug where the player could sometimes manage to jump out through the ceiling
-Fixed a bug where moving to the "level 0" them wouldn't update the new entities to spawn and would use the old ones (i.e going from the circus theme to the level 0 theme would still spawn clowns in level 0, which shouldn't have happened)
-Fixed a bug that prevented textboxes from popping up sometimes (was caused by using a ladder/trapdoor/vent etc while being chased by an entity)

We've released our second game update for The Backrooms: Survival.

Fixes/Changes:
-New "pool rooms" level theme
-New "greek labyrinth" level theme
-three new entities
-added unlockable safes that spawn on walls with items inside
-added dead corpses that can be cannibalized for hunger at expense of sanity
-fixed bug with clown entities model
-never get the same theme in a row, so the next level is always different from the current one
-added air vents in ceilings that can be unlocked with screwdrivers to get to the next level
-fixed bug where loading a quicksave doesn't update the entities to reflect that level theme
-a message is shown when a weapon breaks
-fixed bug where on entering a new level a ladder can be briefly seen
-fixed a bug where spamming "E" quickly on entering a new level can sometimes bypass to the next level
-fixed bug where dropping screwdriver doesn't remove it from inventory
-fixed dog whistle not attracting nearby hounds

-added an "angel bell" item that shatters nearby hostile angel statue entities
