Majority Of Team Now Working On Black Masses

Since the start of the new year, the majority of our team is now working on The Black Masses (Before that, a small portion had been working on it since our last July) . We are working towards full release of 1.0. Going from beta to full release takes time with such a small team. We have not given any public updates because we wanted to wait until we had a solid release date, but since it's been quite some time we wanted to give you a small progress update. At this time we do not have an official release date, but we are hoping for the end of February. When an official date is set we will be sure to let you all know!

Development Now Resumed

Hello everyone! Some may know that today we did the full release for UEBS2.

Over 2 weeks ago, a portion of our team has officially been shifted to resuming development for Black Masses. We are still some months away from an update, but we want to be transparent and let you know that development is officially resuming. We are excited to finally finish this game. We again apologize for the situation we ended up in. We are a small team, and funding comes from our own pockets. However the release of UEBS2 has allowed us to continue development for Black Masses, regardless of what profits are made. We hope you understand, and we are very excited to finish this.

Development Will Continue Soon..

Hello everyone. As some of you may know, development for TBM was put on hold for some time. As promised, development of The Black Masses will soon continue. We estimate development should start sometime in the early new year. We understand it's been a very long road, but TBM has been very costly for our studio, as it has not seen any profit. As some of you may know, we released Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator 2 into early access in May. We are pleased to say that UEBS2 has been a success, which will allow us to complete The Black Masses. As a labor of love, we will continue development of this title, and see it through to the end. Thank you all so much for your patience and support.

Development Update for The Black Masses.

Hello everyone. The Black Masses has been a long ride for the team here at Brilliant Game Studios, we have a huge love for the world we created, and the community behind it. The timeline was longer than anticipated, and we’ve heard your feedback for an increase in updates for the game. We had also wished to have provide more frequent updates. We are currently working diligently on Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator 2. Below I will go over some of the reasons TBM has not seen an update for a while, and why we have shifted development to UEBS2.

The Black Masses has been a huge undertaking and an epic journey for us. Our team only consists of 4 full time members in a studio with funding from our own pockets. The Black Masses began as a dream, and will continue as a labor of love as it has gone considerably over budget; and regrettably we can no longer financially afford to continue to develop this game at the same pace. However, even though we have not seen profits, we are still going to finish the game. The main reason we shifted to UEBS2 is so that our studio can continue operating, and we can continue to bring updates to you.

For those who have been with us from the beginning, you may know that Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator is the reason we were given the freedom to create this ambitious title. And though we do not expect to ever see profits come from this title, we still want to see this to the end. Our studio looks forward to continuing this incredible journey with you, and completing this game. Thank you for your continued support and feedback.

Beta Now Live!

Beta v0.1 is now live everyone! Explore the vast new city of Midridge, rich with content and lore. Jump back into the main quests with many hours of new content.


Tuesday Hotfix:
-Finale beta cinematic issue fixed where sometimes the cinematic would not play at end doorway.
-Debug text removed during steam friend invite.
-Other small fixes.

NOTE: We have already patched the issue where a high level player profile appeared for some people. For those of you who updated earlier and still have the high level profile, we suggest deleting this profile as playing on this 'test profile' will cause issues. We apologize.

New Features/Content:
-Massive city of Midridge added.
-Steam friend invites added to multiplayer.
-New main quest line continues with hours of content.
-Loads of secrets and side quests located throughout the city.
-New explorable areas added outside of the city including a large cave.
-New cinematic. (Working on a fix, sometimes cinematic does not trigger for some reason).
-New weapons added.
-Many other small features/content were added.



Bugs/Fixes:
-Bug fixed where demons and other special units rapidly fired off their abilities in multiplayer.
-Freeze lags some reduced somewhat(Very difficult to reduce this being streamed open world).
-Performance increase in large crowds.
-Shading improvements for distant buildings.
-Reduced the number of knights and demons in Foot tower.
-Fixes in the Secure Kirkwall quest.
-Many other small bugs/fixes were resolved.

Note: Max level was not increased for this update. We determined level 60 was sufficient for the content we added.

Map Of City Of Midridge

We are working hard to get beta in your hands! Much of our effort have been shifted to prioritize The Black Masses, and we are really excited for the largest update yet! We cannot reveal too much due to spoilers, but here is the full detailed map of the main city. We are working long hours to fill this place with content. The city is roughly 1km across and the total area is larger than the starting demo area, but with dense city scape rich with content. We hope the wait will be worth it. We are also working hard to improve and stabilize performance.

Beta Release Is Coming!

Hello everyone. It's been a while since our last post and we want to thank everyone for their patience during the continuing development of The Black Masses.

Part of the reason for the delay, is the absolutely massive main city 'Mid Ridge'. We think this city may be one of the larger/complex cities attempted in a indie studio our size. However, the hard work has payed off! The city is mostly done. It's really difficult to put into words, just how big and complex this city is. You know you've created something massive when you continue to get lost in your own creation. Below we will show just few screenshots of this behemoth. (Unfortunately the screenshots do not do the size justice.. ).











Some of you have noticed our new project, Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator 2. For those concerned, the development of this title is nothing new here at the studio. We have been working on UEBS 2 for a long time now, and during that time Black Masses has seen multiple updates.

This is the largest update yet as we are jumping into Beta V0.1, and it's not something we can add in a bunch mini updates, as many things in the game are going to change all at once. We are also adding a multitude of new quests and events to make sure the beta release is rich with content. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Hotfix For V0.98


We fixed a few issues that came with this update.

-New safezone bugs that caused players to fall through floors fixed.
-Crossbow and musket fire sounds fixed.
-Multiplayer sounds fixed where other players crossbows sounded like a musket rifle.
-Buffed new secret high level weapon.

Update 0.98 Now Live!

The wait is over! Explore almost the entire half of the Island, along side new abilities, story quests and side quests! We shall list the new features below!


-Almost the entire lower half of the island is now explorable(Except the large city connecting the 2 sides).
-Level cap raised to level 60, with a large array of new blessings/abilities!
- Improved walking and stepping physics to prevent getting stuck on walkways and falling through stairwells (also fixed a crash condition here)
-Added molotov cocktails.
-Thrown item damage now scales with survival attribute.
-Profile saving now attempts to stop corrupt saves/crashes by creating a backup.
-Significant optimization focused on GPU performance. (Improved performance on lower end cards as well as high resolution screen resolution on higher end GPUs).
-AI improvements in behavior and performance. (Most notable is they always see you now)
-New high level weapons added.
-New battle added which contains tens of thousands of characters. The battle can be played multiple times.

Large Content Update Coming Very Soon!




Hello everyone, I do apologize for the silence, but we have been working very long on the largest content update so far. Well over half of the island will be explorable, with the story quests continuing with 2 more towers to infiltrate and many other quests. Level cap will be increased as well as new abilities, significant performance increases focused on GPU memory and AI crowd performance. Memory usage in general has been lowered as well.
