Earlier this year, GIB Games was prepared to move forward with additional updates to Cold Start: The Callisto. We talked with friends and partners and made a plan to move forward toward a release.
However, a discord server called the "Game Development League" had several troll members who saw my development of this game. They downloaded my game, played it for a few minutes, and then refunded the game, leaving a bad review. These members even demanded payment from me in return for taking their reviews down.
I involved Steam Support but they did not remove all of these reviews. Game Development League did not ban these members, either.
We are a small team. The sudden influx of bad reviews on a game that hadn't been updated in 10 months was a huge hit to our team's morale, That team has slowly gotten smaller and now, it is just me, Toast. and ultimately I have decided that this game is going to be on permanent hold until a later date.
Thank you for those who have contributed to the testing, given feedback, and played our game. I am incredibly appreciative.
Happy holidays.

Hello, and happy holidays, Inspector! We’ve got a whole lot of news for you all for this new Callisto update.
Waypoints! Sometimes, it may be hard to remember the layout of the Hotel Callisto, and players might need help keeping track of their current objectives. To help remedy that, we’ve created a waypoint system that works alongside the rest of the interactable UI elements you see in the game.

UI-related assets interactivity has been improved, including menus.
bugs that prevented players from continuing/redoing puzzles have been fixed.
Exteriors have been refined to eliminate visibility issues.
Improved interactions with regards to various grabbable aspects.
Objects you grab are no longer immediately grabbable again despite being far out of range.
More objects are now grabbable.
The grab points for various objects have been improved, with unique hand positions in VR.
Object clipping and graphical issues have been fixed
Post-processing has been significantly improved, using ACES. Other issues with post processing effects not triggering have been resolved.
There’s been more content added to the epilogue playable teaser! It’s also re-visitable now if you save, end the game, and re-trigger the ending sequence on returning to the game.

Fixed sudden sound triggers from a few pesky interactibles. Drawers and Lockers were the biggest offenders.
Adjusted inputs for controls in VR, Scan is A, Hack is B/on desktop, Scan is the R key, Middle Mouse is Hack.
Significant lighting overhauls- should make the rooms feel better lit with less visual bugs.
Minor static prop position adjustments.
Some objects have had their grab positions adjusted to be more natural.
Drawers can be opened in desktop mode. Point at the triangular icons on them and left-click.
Bugfixes
Drawers and lockers no longer spontaneously open.
Solved several small softlock problems.
Replaced a wall in the computer room that was causing occlusion issues.
Update .7.10.1
We are happy to announce some great updates that have come out this weekend.
Features
Subtitle localization: German: We have been working with translators to localize our game. The first step in this is a part of this update: The ability to have the subtitles for our game in German. This is the first of several localization updates we will be releasing over the next couple of months.
Improved Desktop: While still experimental, the desktop mode has been significantly improved. it is now possible to complete all of the main storyline's content (so far) in desktop mode.
Lighting improvements: We have improved the lighting and reflections to be smoother, cleaner, and more optimal. You should see these changes pretty much immediately!
Bugs
Many small bug fixes have been made.
Some trigger and state issues have been fixed.
Some teleport bugs have been fixed.
0.7.9.10 - Desktop bugfixes
This small patch fixes some issues with the experimental desktop mode and makes the experience cleaner and more stable.
Update .7.9.9 - Exterior overhaul and experimental DESKTOP support!
Hello, Inspectors. We're really excited about this update for one big reason: Experimental desktop support! But that's not all: the exteriors of the hotel have gotten a bit of a visual upgrade, too.
Changes and improvements:
Jumping has been removed. This is because of inconsistency in controls, a distinct lack of jumping-related puzzles, and the fact that jumping was causing increased levels of motion sickness in players unused to VR.
Lighting, relfections, and textures have been fixed in some places to improve appearance.
Environment details have been adjusted, mainly the outside of the Callisto.
Experimental Features:
The Big One: We've added (early) desktop support! Controls:
WASD for movement
Q/E for rotation
CTRL and ALT for raising/lowering height
Shift for sprint
Left click for using RIT scanner and clicking menu items
Right click to grab items
Middle mouse button to hack conduits
ESC or TAB for menu.
As a note: This feature is limited while we test it. Some early puzzles have added solutions for desktop mode. For the time being, some of the puzzles cannot be done in desktop (like the computer room drone puzzle), and ladders cannot be navigated. These functionalities will be added and improved on very soon in later updates.
Bugfixes
Missing geometry has been fixed.
Issues with reflections have been corrected.
Subtitles/Audio that were not triggering have been reintegrated.
The walls of the Callisto are now made of 50% recycled plastic.
FRED behavior has been improved on the exteriors.
A bug causing the call icon to remain active after a conversation has ended has been fixed.
Topology Patch
Hey all. This is a tiny patch that fixes an unexpected bug created by our last update.
99 bugs in the code, 99 bugs in the code, pull one down, patch it around, 1,294 bugs in the code...
Updates for Oct 2
