Today is a bit of a special day as it’s time for another dev update on our side – and boy do we have a lot of news to share in the following weeks. For instance, we have a real, actual date to share with you all regarding the arrival of Season 3. We’ll also take this time to have a first, very quick look into what the new season will have to offer. But first things first, start with the beginning and all that, what you’ve been looking forward to: the release date!
Simply put, the next season for The Cycle: Frontier is set to release on March 29, 2023. While its arrival may be taking a bit longer than we had originally planned, we have some new and exciting content coming up, stuff that we’re very eager to share with you all. More importantly, you can expect to see some significant changes make their way into the game, including our good ol’ wipe mechanic getting quite the facelift.
Speaking of which, let’s take a quick dive together into what those changes will entail right now!
A bit of job stability
If you’re the kind of Prospector who’s looking for long-term arrangements in their career, then we have some good news for you: Badum managed to pull a few strings and change how things tend to work around Prospect Station – which is a heck of a feat considering he’s, y’know, a fictional character. You will only have the future to look towards as wipes become a thing of the past. In other words, there will be no more mandatory server wipes after the release of Season 3. How’s that for some barman influence?
Check out our new dev update video with Matt Lightfoot, Lead Producer, for more details!
The game will go through one last global wipe when Season 3 kicks in. As usual, Aurum and cosmetic items will remain untouched by the reset. After that, every bit of progression will be permanently recorded on your account.
But I do want to wipe!
Ah, you’re the kind of Prospector who’s made a few questionable choices in their career and would like to turn over a new leaf? Maybe you just want to prove the world over you can rise from rags to riches any time you want? Or perhaps you’re just restless and looking for a new challenge? We understand, we really do. And we’re surely not forgetting about you.
With mandatory wipes out of the way, we are currently exploring options for personal, voluntary wipes. This would allow you to reset your progress on your own terms, when you feel ready for it, and start the adventure anew. This could be a great opportunity to experience future updates with a fresh pair of eyes or simply optimize your early game (somebody said speed runs?). We’re also contemplating rewards for choosing to do so, but we’ll get back to you on that once we figure out the right approach.
I'm a master of my own fate! What else though?
With wipes done and over with, we’ll need to rebalance the whole game and economy to be more long-term oriented, which will mostly affect the endgame part of your career. For instance, high-quality gear & equipment will be more valuable and getting your hands on them may require a bit of risky play, making them rarer overall.
Content-wise, campaigns will be reworked once more to stand in line with the new economy balance. They will also be expanded upon with new endgame questlines and will keep growing in the future, as there's still so much more we want to show you about Fortuna III.
But as you all know, a picture’s worth a thousand words. That’s why we have prepared a cool roadmap for you all to follow. Sure, those unspoken words are still very hushed at the moment, but one should never reveal their whole hand at the start of the game, right?
And that will be all for us today. Don’t forget to keep an eye on our channels including this very website here, as we’ll just keep teasing you about what’s coming with Season 3. In fact, you can expect more news on that front a bit later this month, so stay tuned!
In the meantime, you know the drill: take care of yourselves, have a wonderful day and see you all on the surface.

Frosty Frontier Fest 2022 - Holiday Monster Bash
Hey Prospectors!
Hope you’re in the mood for some good ol’ fashioned monster hunting, because the time for the grand Holiday Monster Bash is now! The idea is simple: drop on the surface, shoot some ugly critters and, once you’re done with blasting, go out and hunt some more!
Here’s all the details about the events:
How to participate
Participating is easy: just play the game! Starting on the 22nd, Monster kills will be tallied across all accounts by looking at our internal data and added to reach a final result at the end of the event. There are specific goals to reach if you want to get all the rewards, there’s not a second to lose!
Goals
Here’s a full list of how many creatures of each kind need to be taken down to unlock the highest reward:
Kill a total of 3,000,000 Striders
Kill a total of 750,000 Rattlers
Kill a total of 275,000 Marauders
Kill a total of 36,000 Ticks
Kill a total of 18,000 Crushers
These numbers may look daunting but are based on our current data, so we’re sure you’ll be able to handle it!
Rewards
Once we’ve hit roughly the halfway mark, every single Prospector will receive a Gingerbread Rattler as a cute little weapon charm. Once all the goals have been completed, every Prospector will receive a special holiday weapon coating!
You have until January 5 to squeeze in as many monster take-downs as you can.
After that, we’ll stop tallying up the notches and start counting the trophies. We’ll give you some updates throughout the event, so you know if you’re doing well or if you need to pick up the pace!
And that’s all the information you’ll need for this challenge. We’re excited to see what destructive force this teamwork will bring. On that note, the time for words is over: less talking, more bashing!
Hotfix 2.6.1
Hey Prospectors,
We just pushed out a small hotfix to fix the automatic mouse movement issue.
This Hotfix did not require a maintenance.
Have a great Monday everyone, don't forget - Fortuna favors the bold!
The Cycle: Frontier - Patch 2.6.0
INTRO
Well, hello there Prospectors!
Patch 2.6.0 is our last patch for 2022 and we are including a lot of changes and adjustments to fix and solve some of the bigger pain points from our community.
With 2022 coming to an end, we want to thank all of you for being part of this wild ride and being a part of our community. Keep your eyes on our social media channels for our first Community Challenge Event that we will share with you in the next week, as you can grab some nice rewards from it!
In case you have not watched it yet, take a look at our recent Dev Update video:
And with that, let's dive into the changes for Patch 2.6.0
CHANGES
MATCHMAKING
One of the biggest pain points that we saw from the community in recent weeks was that matchmaking felt unfair and caused a lot of frustration, especially for newer players. We took a look at the system and are going to change it quite drastically. The problem statement with which we approached it was the following:
"As a Player I want to make sure that I am matched against Players close to my skill level. This way I don't feel bored or too stressed but I can enjoy the tense uncertainty The Cycle: Frontier offers."
Note: We see this is an experiment. It can be easily toggled to the way it was before. We are trying this method out, to get live data, as you can't get the amount of data on a test server that is necessary to see how it truly impacts the gameplay experience. The learnings that we can get from these changes will be very valuable to evaluate additional adjustments that may come in the future.
So what are we doing exactly?
Duos and trios now also have beginner buckets - A squad only gets into a beginner match if ALL squad members are beginners.
We extended the amount of matches that players spend in the beginner buckets.
Matchmaking is now based on PvP K/D (Kill Death ratio). What we hope to gain from this:
Give players who may be terrible at PvP a chance to succeed. Give players who want PvP and want to duke it out with other skilled players what they seek. This should limit the amount of frustration a new player encounters, as we also checked the gear that is commonly used by players with a high PvP K/D, while still giving the opportunity to encounter different playstyles on your adventures on Fortuna III
Another bonus of using this method is that it will be more difficult to exploit or 'cheese' than the previous methods of matchmaking.
This also mean that we adjusted the buckets of the different maps again, including absolute separation of squad sizes in Map 1:
Bright Sands Buckets:
2 different buckets for Solos, for Duos and for Squads (so 6 buckets in total).
This means: You should NEVER be in a lobby with squad sizes other than your own on Bright Sands
Crescent Falls Buckets:
Same as before
Solos only, for players that are still having a hard time
Good Solos, with some Duos
Good Duos, with some Trios
Good Trios
Tharis Island Buckets:
Solos, with some Duos
Good duos & Trios
We will monitor the changes closely to make sure our desired goal of making the game less oppressive for newer players, while keeping it fun for those more experienced prospectors is achieved.
CHEAT VICTIM COMPENSATION
We adjusted some of the features of the Cheat Victim Compensation, this means that no package should go missing on its way to you. We also adjusted the way the system checks and compensates items that were in your safe pockets at the time you dropped to the planet.
AI
We tuned some of our AI values to lessen the frustration for players encountering them for the first time.
Reduced Rattler Beam damage by 30%
Reduced Tick damage by 35%
Striders have been taught how to wait their turn and we introduced a global cooldown for Strider attacks to prevent all from attacking at the same time when surrounding the player
MISC.
After some player feedback, we have adjusted the sound of the bird sound trap, so they cannot be mistaken for footsteps as easily.
We increased the spawn radius for drop pods, so players should spawn a bit further away from each other.
We adjusted some of the ways in which the ban hammer strikes, to identify more cheating patterns with our partners.
Max player count on Bright Sands & Crescent Falls was reduced by 1. You're gonna have so much room for activities.
We reduced the Letium requirements for the the level 9 Player Quarter upgrade by 100. You will need 50 Lithium instead of 150 now.
We adjusted the amount of items that are needed for early delivery missions and all dead drop missions.
We implemented some additional tweaks to our report player function. The easier it gets for you, the easier it is for us.
Additional adjustments to our anti-cheat detections.
We have added a functionality to redeem codes within the game, this gives us the option to create codes for items etc. on our end. (Do I hear giveaways?)
We have adjusted the pricing for our Sprays, Banners and Weapon Charms. These items will now be cheaper to get, as we heard your feedback.
Vanity tiers will be reflected with the proper color in your inventory, this will be improved on in Season 3. We will also increase the variety of vanity tiers.
Additional preparations for the Community Challenge, stayed tuned!
BUGFIXES
We have fixed several spots on our maps, be it out of bounds or stuck spots.
We have fixed another small issue in the tutorial that could hinder players from finishing it.
We have fixed an item dupe exploit.
We have fixed an issue that caused Prospectors to go invisible while emoting. Our sci-fi prospecting world has lots of cool things, a cloak of invisibility is not one of them.
We have fixed most of the desync issues that you encountered when fighting our AI. Thanks to the Council and the Focus Test Group for checking it out and giving valuable feedback!
We have fixed an issue where players could get stuck on the station without being able to use their keyboard.
We have fixed an issue that insurance got voided when an item was put in your safe pocket. Seems like the warranty seals kept peeling off in Prospectors' pockets.
We have fixed the "timeout" errors that some players received when reporting other players.
We have fixed an issue that hindered squads to deploy under certain conditions.

No-reg hitmarkers and kill markers reports are being investigated by the team.

After completing one level purchase in the 'Fortuna Pass', the next consecutive purchase displays the icons of items from the previous purchase.

If you want to read up on some Cycle holiday lore - https://thecycle.game/news-and-media/miracle-over-neptune
As usual, during the holiday period our office is closed and therefore our reactivity might be slower. We do, of course, have people on-call to check if there are pressing issues that require us to jump on them. The last two weeks of the year, is the only time where development slows down a bit, but we will be back in 2023 and release the next patch in mid-January.
In case we don't hear from each other again - Happy Holidays, stay awesome and have fun on Fortuna III!

Until then, have fun and enjoy the festival!
CHANGES
WEAPONS & GEAR
KOR-47
Reduced damage per shot from 13 to 12.
Increased vertical recoil by about 35%.
Increased horizontal recoil by about 20%.
The changes from our last balance update had made the KOR-47 a bit too good of a weapon when comparing its effectiveness to its availability and it quickly became the new meta weapon. We hope that this small nerf will give other weapons a chance to shine and bring some more variety to your drops.
MISC.
We've reduced the maximum amount of players that can roam a single instance of Bright Sands by 1.
We've fiddled with our early matchmaking values a bit. New Prospectors will have an easier time on the surface.
You will now be able to sort items in shops and when using crafting stations.
Weapon attachments can now be equipped from any source to any destination by simply dragging and dropping them on the weapon of your choice.
BUGFIXES
Turning and rotating in place will now produce footstep sounds instead of making you look like a spinning ghost.
Rattlers took some vitamins. They won't flinch as easily when first running into them but will be easier to stagger after that.
Striders and Marauders also got a nice cup of coffee and won't freeze into place after attacking a bit too far from their designated spots.
Crushers on the other hand had some proper sleep and won't act erratically when Prospectors get out of their sights.
Improved the cheating compensation feature a bit to prevent situations where it wouldn't compensate players properly.
Night Vision could be kept permanently by mashing its bound key while looking through a weapon scope. This has been fixed for the sake of everyone's eyeballs.
Fixed some clipping issues between backpacks and some Prospector models. No, you can't fit a whole Prospector inside the bag.
Fixed more clipping issues when using some specific emotes.
As is tradition, made more supposedly inaccessible places actually inaccessible.
Players won't go through a server-wide earthquake anymore when someone fails to open a locked door.
Batteries will now spawn as they should in the Osiris Research Facility on Tharis Island.
Fixed an issue that prevented using some properly unlocked Prospectors.
The Paladin Battle Blade will now be what it claims to be: a Paladin Battle Blade.
Made some walls act like the walls they're supposed to be. These will now effectively stop bullets.
Fixed a few more infamous "stuck spots". This one is a constant battle so keep those reports coming!
More on that front, also fixed a few collision issues around the planet.
In a similar vein, going up stairs should now be a smoother, uninterrupted experience. Taking bug fixes step by step!
Finally, improved ledge climbing possibilities for several areas on the surface.
Fixed an issue with invisible loot container blocking shots, making firefights a bit awkward.
The Alien Forge terminal won't be accessible when the Forge is already doing its thing.
Similarly, you won't be able to start the printing process for another item while the Gear Printer is already busy working on something.
No error message will show when successfully adding an attachment to a weapon in the stash.
Fixed an issue with flashlights not producing light from an external point of view.
Some textures looked unnaturally stretched beyond the laws of nature. These have been carefully, uh, unstretched.
No more "level up" notices when completing tasks with the Fortuna Pass already at max level.
The Korolev quest line "In a Deep Dark Hole" won't show as main missions anymore.
Fixed a few typos and localization issues here and there.
Fixed a few UI issues in the in-game shop.
KNOWN ISSUES
Hunter Vision will remain disabled for now as we're still trying to figure out issues with it. Still a big priority on our side.
Weapons
There are multiple hit registration issues present at the edge of the AOE when shooting with the Komrad.
No-reg hitmarkers and kill markers reports are being investigated by the team.
Fortuna Pass
Claiming an Archetype displays duplicate body parts beside it (Chest, Gloves, Boots).
After completing one level purchase in the 'Fortuna Pass', the next consecutive purchase displays the icons of items from the previous purchase.
Gear visibility
In match, you don't see your own Backpack (can be evident when emoting) but can see other Prospector Backpacks.

The Cycle: Frontier - Patch 2.4.0
Hey Prospectors!
Community Team here once again to bring you the patch notes for 2.4.0. Our previous patches so far have prioritized weapon and gear balancing, but there is other feedback and additional reports from our players that need to be addressed as well. This patch will primarily focus on a mixed batch of changes and community pain points that we'd like to address sooner rather than later, along with a hefty list of bug fixes. We are having internal discussions about additional changes for the Forge, armor and power progression. Of course we are also taking a very close look at our matchmaking system for any possible future changes.
With that said, let's take a look at what's in store for Patch 2.4.0.
CHANGES
FRIENDS LIST LIMITATION
Hey there friends! Can we call you friends? If so, this is quite literally a fix for you. In order to address internal issues caused by having an exceptionally high number of friends on your friends list (aren't we the popular one eh?), we will be introducing a hard limit to how many the list can contain. Currently we are setting this limit to 250 friends, which should be more than enough for most of you. The friends list should behave normally before reaching that threshold.
For those who already have more than 250, some of your friends in the game will be removed automatically during startup to accommodate this limit. You will of course be able to re-invite them after deleting some others. Sorry for the inconvenience.
If you reach 250 after this change, you will not be able to add more until you delete some.
WEAPONS & GEAR
Although this is a minor patch for balance, we do plan to have more changes coming in Patch 2.5.0 based on some of the feedback we've seen in our community channels. Weapon and armor balance is always something we are keeping a close eye on, but we do have a little something for you in the meantime.
Hunter Vision - We are re-enabling Hunter Vision with this update, a perk that you can get from the Alien Forge on Tharis Island and that has been disabled for a while now.
We have fixed the sound cue for Hunter Vision. You will now emit a constant noise while Hunter Vision is active that all other players in the area can hear. This should help make the vision more balanced.
Indirect vision range has been reduced from 3000 to 1500 when enemies are not within normal line of sight.
Direct vision range has been reduced from 8000 to 6000 when enemies are within normal line of sight.
THARIS ISLAND
There's been some improvements to the general "rattiness" of the Tharis caverns. These are just our first steps towards improving Tharis island and you can expect more changes in future patches.
A number of dark corners have been smoothed and/or illuminated.
There's been a general reduction of stuff to hide behind in the pit.
A handful of locations that caused you to die from the Void when trying to pickup gear have been adjusted, so you can claim your hard-earned rewards without fear of a big one-way drop.
STORM ON THARIS ISLAND
We increased the frequency of the storm on Tharis Island, so the Forge will be available more often. Time before storm phases has been reduced by 9 minutes for now, but we are looking into other additional adjustments in the future.
MISC.
We have changed the player report workflow, simplifying the whole player report process. This is based on your feedback, so make sure to tell us how it feels now!
You won't be able to walk on Barbed Wire and Thorny Vines sitting on top of walls and fences, preserving your precious little feet from unnecessary lacerations. (Note from Tesuji, Lead Level Designer: They still won't apply damage ... for now!)
We have reduced the fog in some parts of our maps.
Scrip stack size is increased from 1000 to 10000.
Loot value for the Crusher Caverns has been increased with new loot containers. As a result, the amount of monsters was adjusted as well. Cherry on top, the boss was made harder as well.
Some vanity items got their price adjusted.
There are some smaller adjustments on how the matchmaking works for both trusted and untrusted servers.
BUGFIXES
Night Vision does not make players more visible through smoke along with other fixes to NV helmet vision. Your eyes are still your best ally in your ventures.
The perk that reduces damage from explosives will only apply to damage received from explosives. Previously it also made you deal less damage with explosives, which went against the idea of demolition builds.
A small fix for the "Reduced Weight" perk was implemented. Weight reduction will only apply when the backpack is equipped and will not reduce weight of items when the backpack is on the ground.
Fixed an issue where dropped player loot around specific ledges towards the Void was inaccessible or caused players to be hurled into said pit of darkness.
Fixed an unruly cabinet that was clipping through the roof in the Osiris Offices, giving us all the tiniest respite against the inevitable furniture revolution.
The floating Ancient Vent container was exorcised and shouldn't be floating anymore.
The voracious Forge will no longer eat gear that is dropped within the forge cylinder.
You can't fire the Zeus Beam without charging anymore. Harnessing the power of the sun is a lengthy process.
The Kinetic Arbiter sound bug got fixed. Swapping weapons with it will no longer act as a makeshift sound dampener and remove environmental sounds.
There were some spots that caused "flashy effects" to appear when you looked at them while another player shined their flashlights on them. Fortunately for our eyeballs, this is fixed now.
The Explorer's AR-55 preview got fixed.
There are a handful of doors at the East Collection Point and Dig Site on Bright Sands that got fixed.
The waterfall close to the Nutrion Farms Warehouse on Crescent Falls received a fix for its water effects. Again.
A handful of missing walls were re-introduced into the Jungle Thermal Ponds on Crescent Falls. Hopefully, these pesky walls will stop running away for now.
The Crusher that was supposed to roam around the Skeleton on Crescent Falls came back from its break and is back on the payroll.
