Chapter 3 Release



Hey everyone!
It may have costed me a huge amount of work, time and money, but I can now proudly present you the next Chapter of the Donnerwald Experiment series!

Initially planned to be released for Halloween 2021, I took my time to further adjust it as I felt there wasn't enough content yet.
Some things are still "placeholder" like Nikita's skill icons, which I plan to replace over the following weeks and months.

This time, I unlocked the Chapter Selection feature. While I advice to play the game from the start again as there are many smaller and bigger changes, I can understand that not everyone wants to see the same stuff over and over again. So this time you can simply simulate your choices from the previous Chapters and directly start at Chapter 2 or 3.

Here's the changelog:

Note: I see a lot of Games updating to be more compatible with Steam Deck. I will work on this for TDE once I get my own hands on one.
But right now I'm ultra poor so this has to wait a bit.

Bugfixes


-If Johanna goes KO while being in the Robot, the sprite no longer glitches out.
-The demon choke attack no longer shows "block" ... I don't know how that ended up there. IM SORRY
-Fixed the softlock that happens after defeating Nimarus on Day4.

Story


-The Bonjavelin+Erika event in Chapter 2 now can also happen in the evening (4th slot), before it was just early night (5th slot).
-The "play game" option after the Treasure Hunt (NonPact Route) now properly tells you that you'll get the chance to ask someone out for a date.
-In the rare case you were not going full flirting with Marx during the crimson dream: Added something in Chapter 3 that progresses the "Talk with Erika" choice tree for Marx.

System


-Made Ralf playable (Chapter 3)
-Made Luka playable (Chapter 3)
-Made [Redacted] playable (Chapter 3)
-Made Niktia playable (Chapter 2, Day3). Note that her icons and balance is not finalized yet.

Gadgets


-Added "Enhanced Wrench" which increases the Base Damage for Wrench Strike and Wall Shadow by one.
-Added "Muscle Stimulator" which increases the SP Sink damage for Wrench Strike, Hammer Strike and the Earthquake ability by one.

Overworld


-Crimson Dream: Alentura now laughs after hitting Johanna in Chapter 2.
-Eleno: There's now something at the top right corner
-Added a Rat in Eleno that gives you cheese once per day.
-Added some items to Geisterkueste. Plz visit the empty beach house.
-Geisterkueste: Added a background soundtrack
-Increased Erika Friendship Points from Cookie and from initial talk from 1->2. (So overall 2 more friendship points)
-Increased William Friendship Points from talking to him in Chapter 2.

Menu


-Love Battle Options should be more clear now.

Battle



-Buffs that get removed upon taking damage no longer ignore Armor damage.
This means that Bussekaters sleep well buff gets removed even if only the armor was attacked.
-Crows can now target the backline

Johanna


-Nerfed Earthquake: Now you need 2 SP for each increased damage point. Initial stats from 5DMG-3SP to 3DMG-2SP
-Swapped the position of the robot icons with the "normal" icons (since Johanna is above the robot, it makes more sense that her abilities are also ontop)
-Added a sound effect to Robatos Woy Reload skill.
-Wall Shadow: Is easier to hit now

-Mare Noctem Skills: Strength no longer depends on Mare Noctem, instead more Woy can be invested.
-LOVE->LUST: Renamed to LUST due to popular demand. Now heals 3HP and 2SP for each invested Woy Point.
-GUILT: Deals 3- damage for each invested Woy Point. (- means enemies in the backline receive 1 damage less per distance, capped at 1).
-HATE: Wrath duration is now invested Woy Points +1.
-FEAR: Fear duration equals to Woy Points spent. Hits more targets with -1 duration each if it's still greater than 0.

Earthquake is not intended to be always better than the normal hammer attack, hence the changes. It is still has its uses against multiple ground enemies.
The Mare Noctem skills felt a bit underwhelming and weird to use, as it promotes to play "bad" by losing days in order to get stronger.
And there wasn't a real reason to upgrade Max Woy until now, either.


William


-Stick Smash now deals 3 damage when fully charged.
It also stuns now if it's not fully charged.
-Stick Throw now deals 3 damage.

He can now one-shot Wuselrats.

Erika


-Now starts with only 7 HP.
-Rainbow Potion now cures Apathy Debuff instead of being prevented by it.
Increased Potion Sickness Duration from 3 to 4 turns to balance this out.
-Woy[5] ability no longer KOs her teammates, only herself and deals 64 damage to all enemies.

Erika is strong, so strong that she's not available yet except by savefile modding.
By giving her the least amount of HP and slightly modifying her self-heal, she becomes closer to the cute blonde glass-cannon the I envisioned her to be.


Marx


-Railgun now can charge all 5 Woy Points instead of only 4.

Just a minor oversight that fixes things in future chapters.

Montgomery


-Chili P Buff now prevents being Frozen (might be important in Chapter 3)
-Chili P now grants Well Feed Buff for 3 turns after it ends.

Personally I felt the Chili could use some more extremly minor buffs, to make Montgomery more of a supportive character.

Sir Hennryk


-No longer gains ALP by using his main attack or Axe Throw.
-Axe Throw now deals +1 damage (-> 3).

Hennryk was a bit too strong in the current iteration and this felt like the most reasonable change, as it still keeps his good HP pool and potential for explosive damage, but it's less controlable now as the ALP generation now fully depends on him taking damage now.

-Stuns & Freezes can no longer be "refreshed" (effected permastunning enemies like the Thundersnake).


Known Issues


-The following things use placholder art:
Golden Wire (item), Freezing (Debuff), Muscle Stimulator (Gadget), Wrench Enhancer (Gadget), Luka's 4th skill, Diving Gear (gadget), Nikita's skills.
-There's no "no-hat" version for Alentura's faceset yet.
-The underwater cavern has currently no enemy encounters, thus might feel a bit empty.

Chapter 3 Info



Hey everyone, it's time to throw out a small update.

Overall, I only made around 50% of what I initially planned for Chapter 3 as I'm writing this.
The good news is that the first half of this upcomming chapter is already filled with content, two (or three) awesome boss battles with unique music and many new cutscenes and decisions to make.

Also, many QoL features already made it into the current version, be it a peek at the new beach area, the Woy rework and a playable Erika.
I'm sure you had enough with waiting for actual new content, so I decide to release what I'd call "Chapter 3 part 1" around the 15th march. Part 2 will probably merged together with Chapter 4 and I fear it will take equally as long to make, if not longer since I'll have another little surprise announcement coming up on this date.


Anyway, I want to thank you all for your continued support and for enjoying the journey that Johanna took us all with so far.

#Bugfixes
-Fixed the New Game softlock bug (Item arrays were not properly set up after exiting a savefile and starting new game).
-Fixed Spidoni's sleep attack making Johanna sleep in the robot and showing a glitched sprite.

#Gadgets
-Added the Earthquake Attack for Pact Route. It's a powerful multi-target ability using the hammer.
Costs 6 Inspiration.
-Reduced Spiked Boots cost to 4 Inspiration, changed marterials from 2 Gears to 1 Gear and 2 Stones.

#Battle
-Robato now has an immunity that prevents the following debuffs: Bleeding, Poisoned, Sleeping, Charmed, Starving.
Icon art is a placeholder.
-Jasmine's Brave Heart now also removes/prevents Charmed debuff (already does in 1.1.6 but tooltip was not updated).
-Buffs no longer show a message when they could not be applied due to immunities (for example the game does no longer say Jasmine became scared when she has the Braveheart buff).
-Adjusted the BLOCK popup for most attacks, especially when they are targeting Robato.

-Fixed Robot Recharge using Mathf.Max instead of Mathf.Min (healed way too much)
-Fixed Geisterküste enemies not respawning.
-Fixed Nikita having a sleepover with Johanna not showing a friendship increase (visual only).
-Fixed RedRoom being quitable via Chair when Nimarus or Alentura want to talk with you.
-Fixed RedRoom being quitable via Chair when Doppelganger wants to teach you new skillz or how to defeat Nimarus.

#Overworld
-Added a new Erika Art on Day4. Also added an event on Day4 in Erika's room that can be triggered that either grants Friendship or Inspiration.

#Menu
-Crafting: The Totem requires Woy being unlocked instead of Alp now. Though it's not buildable as it requires a currently unobtainable ressource which will appear in Chapter 3.

#Battle
-Johanna no longer uses the ALP meter. Instead, she uses Woy to emulate those nightmare powers.
This ties in better with the way how she gained those Alp abilities in the first place.
-The four emotion skills that are taught in the Pact Route no longer cost Alp, only 1 Woy.
Those might be up for further balancing in the future.
-Wall Shadow no longer uses ALP, but costs 2 Stamina instead now.

Known Issues:
The game softlocks in the talk with Montgomery teaching you how to build the monocles.
This happens when you start a new file after finishing the game (without quitting the game).
I'll further investigate on the cause and how to solve it.

-Alentura's shadow faceset has less grey artifacts (it looks better).

-Celery text no longer claims that is bitter (it's still aromatic like the orange icon tells).
-Fixed Jasmine joining twice on Day4 if you skipped the Treasure Hunt before.
-Fixed Cutlass info telling the wrong action command.
-Ghostcrabs now have a death animation
-Fixed robot upgrades not consuming the materials required to build them

#Overworld
-Tom now sells Gear for 50 coins. He's finally useful.
-Karl Marx no longer hates you (selling is no longer half buy price).

-The following buffs now have a number in their Icon to show their strength:
Well Feed, Bleeding, OnFire, Armor Break, Daydreaming

#Battle
Woy rebalanced and made less confusing:
-Woy regenereates at 0.5 each round for each character in battle, and starts at 0(similar to Stamina/SP).
-Using Woy now only places an euphoric buff that increases damage from further Woy skills.
-After the buff ends, Apathy kicks in (which no longer drains stamina, but increases received physical damage).
-Using Woy no longer applies a bleeding debuff.

1.1.5 Patch

This is not the Chapter 3 patch. Instead, it fixes some crucical bugs reported by some fans, while adding a new area to explore (though it's a bit empty until Chapter 3). Happy gaming!

Art
-Fixed Johanna's faceset from doing Youtuber jumps.

-Fixed the RedRoom skip which allowed to skip all of Chapter 1 and jump into Chapter 2.
-Fixed softlock when talking to Erika and brewing for the second time.
-Fixed the "share breakfast" event not showing on day3.
-Fixed the Gravity Device Scene from playing again after revisiting it in Pact-Route.
-Fixed Johanna's Death animation from not showing if her HP drops to 0 due to debuffs.


#Gameplay
-Added Geisterküste as a region that can be visited in Chapter 2.
It doesn't serve much purpose yet besides grinding extra XP, as it gets more relevant in Chapter 3.

-Updated the Dreamworld Gate visuals

#Bugfixes
-Removed the "Item Buff Storage" bug which made projectile attacks like Montgomery's hat throw apply buffs from the last used item.
-Fixed Luka saying the wrong thing on Day3 if you ask her for the blue key.
-Red Room now gets more purple based on the Mare Noctem status.

#Story
-Defeating Nimarus is required to progress the story to Chapter 3. If you fled on the first encounter with him, Nimarus can be rebattled on the next day.
-Two whole new cutscenes plays in the RedRoom at the end of Chapter 2, one for Pact Route and one for Friendship Route.

#System
-Can now increase/decrease sound in 5% steps
-Made some system changes behind the scenes, the game cares now more about reaching story flags instead of what DAY it currently is.

-You no longer lose the battle if Johanna goes KO. Instead the game now checks for EACH CHARACTER, though only Johanna has access to the items so it's still vital to keep her alive.

-Intro Dreamworld: Replaced invisible walls with actual walls
-Turning during the jump now flips Johanna.
-Removed barrier in Donnerwald2 that is active during the TreasureHunt.

#Menu
-Can now close the Map with B (when checked in the overworld menu).

#Battle
-Blocking now shows a cool effect as feedback
-Marx: Black blood buff now generates 0.5 x Time Woy instead of 0.2x, but the Overcharge skill only generates 3 turns instead of 5 turns.
-Marx: Buffed his damage growth from 4 to 5. Overall this should make his Railgun less complicated to use.
-Euphory Buff: Now increases Woy damage instead of Woy Regeneration.
