Quality of Life Patch - Release Patchnotes

Hey hey,

Today the big Quality of Life patch will go live on steam!
It's not Chapter 3, instead the first two chapters (mostly 1) got some uplifting.
This includes story bits but also mechanical wise as well as some balancing and bug fixing.

Major changes


-No more evading in battles, instead it's all blocking
-Charge Attacks can use Stamina for extra damage
-Completly new intro
-New Savesystem (most autosaves were replaced with statue saving).

Also, the patch will remove the russian translation for now as there's been no signs of interest for this patch, though this may change in the future again.

Savefiles are no longer compatible with this version!

Art


-Replaced old starvation Debuff with a new icon
-Lonely Sand ground replaced with better art (no more mush).
-Most characters now have 3 idle animations instead of 2. You may thank Sarrg for this change.
-Added Coppelius Faceset.
-Added Faceset for Nimarus without hat (thanks Smasho)

Bugfixes


-Fixed Forest items respawning upon reentering
-Fixed Zamur Cape text saying it's Umami when it's actually Sour.
-Fixed Nimarus stomp target showing the wrong person

Story


-Johanna no longer returns from a 6 month long journey. Instead, something different happens... (fully reworked the intro chapter).

System


-Increased Max Level from 16 to 30
-Added Savepoints and replaced most autosaves with it.
-I'm no longer scared to use bloom shaders in TDE.

Gameplay


-Erika's shop is now also open at evening. She has to do some overtime work.
-Reworked Woy System in combat. It needs to be channeled like Star Power in PM:TTYD.
-All Charge attacks slightly reworked. You can now pay SP to make the attacks deal more damage during the charge.

Gadgets


-Added diving gear (currently WIP)
-Added shield generator (currently WIP)

Overworld


-Kaltstein: Adjusted lights for the new system, added new "glow" to indicate where to leave.
-Added a guitar sound to Honeiro
-Increased the sell price for most ingredients. It's now always 5 less than the buy price.
-New content for Nikita Day2.
-Nikita Day3 Event requires not having a Woy Pact to side with her.
-Kaltstein: Added warning that leaving advances the plot, added [!] to Jasmine.

Menu


-Doubled Cursor Speed for Overworld Menu
-Levelup and Inspiration Points are now shown as notifications.
-"Unlocked" icon is now more clear.
-Made OW Menu somewhat easier to navigate.

Battle


-Enemies that run away now give half their XP (round down) instead of 0.
-Johanna: Summoning Robato now always fully heals him.
-Fixed yellow potions not applying +1 Action Point modifier correctly
-When a Buff is applied, you receive a message now.
-Enemies now show which character they attack in a more clear way.
-Made Snakes a little bit faster
-Nimarus stomp attack deals 5(9) instead of 8(12) base damage.
-Nimarus earthquake deals 5 instead of 8 damage
-Secret Boss ??? - Laser attack from 4 to 3 base damage
-Secret Boss ??? - HP lifesteal changed from AoE to single target, but base damage increased by 1.
-Replaced all instances of evading with blocking.
-William: Stick Throw is now like the hat throw. Pierces once, deals 2 damage to each target.
-Selecting a character now skips the "select category" menu, removing one A press.
-Angry Crows now have their HP bar properly placed
-Robato von Brex: Can now also hit medium sized enemies.
-Changed Wolpertinger from Tall to Medium sized enemy group.
-All enemies now start without their HP Bars revealed, as the goggles can now be built pre-Chapter 1.
-Stones & Bones are now useful: 100% stun rate, damage up to 2, changed targeting system.
-Camera is now dynamic for many attacks
-Added Battle Transition for Nimarus

Announcement - Chapter 3 Trailer & Info

Hey, how is everyone doing?
It has been quite from my side for a while, but that's mostly because I'm busy working on TDE Chapter 3 non-stop.
There has been a Paper Direct where the trailer above was shown. I hope you're curious how Johanna's story might unfold in the next chapter.


Now the juicy part: I plan to release to release in may a big Quality of Life update for the previous chapters this month.

What To Expect


-A reworked intro and a slightly reworked start story
-Updated combat mechanics, inclduing better Battle Commands and a new system for Woy abilities.
-Some improved shaders, most noticeable in the Dream Machine room.
-Overall some bug fixes and adjusted texts.

Note that savefiles will no longer work due to several mechanical & story changes. But I strongly advice to replay the whole game from the start once Chapter 3 drops, anyway.

Chapter 2 - Release Patchnotes

Hey everyone, it's happening.
With Halloween approaching, it's time to release Chapter 2 of The Donnerwald Experiment on steam.

I hope you'll enjoy Johanna's new adventure, feel free to let me know what you think about it and if you encounter any bugs.

IMPORTANT


Due to some savefile bugfixing, most old savefiles won't work anymore as the construct information was corrupted. You may instead use the Chapter Selection in the Start Menu to jump right into Chapter 2 if you don't want to replay Chapter 1.
Sorry for causing this inconvinience.

The russian translation will be patched in when its done, later this month.

Art


-Exchanged most placeholder icons with the finished versions.

Bugfixes


-Fixed robot information gets saved in a wrong way
-Starting a new game after loading a game kept the characters in the party

-Friendship Value Increases popups now show the exact number in the animation

Added Monty-Goggles, which allow to tattle enemies even if Montgomery is not in your party. Can also be used while riding robot

Overworld


-Johanna now waves at Jasmine after being rescued in Kaltstein.
-Johanna now gains 1 Inspiration in Kaltstein after telling Jasmine to appease the overlord
-The Tavern is now also open at morning.
-Lonely Sand spin now has a sound effect

Menu


-Party Menu looks a bit better now
-Status Menu reworked. Johanna's skills and the different skill symbols can now be checked.
-Changed the UI for the selection menu to fit with the rest of the game

Battle


-Montgomery: Hat throw now generates 1 ALP per hit character (up to 3) instead of generating 2 ALP if 3 enemies were hit (is a major buff).
Replaced tattle icon with something cooler
-Johanna: Swap skill 1 -> 0 Action Points cost (temporary balance test)
Wrench Strike now generates Alp (if Jo is capable of using it).

Achievement


-Added "Warriors do not read books" for Chapter 1
-Added "Only my Railgun" for Chapter2
-Added "Oh behave~ for Chapter2
-Added "Mission Complete" for Chapter2

Known Issues


-Turbo Potion did no apply it's +1Action Point one time during my tests. Please report if you encounter this issue.

Announcement - Chapter 2 Release Date & Trailer

Hey everyone, at last the second chapter draws near.
Expect double as much playtime with two additional days filled with action, love and mysteries.

The estimated release date is 13. October if things go well even earlier.
Chapter 2 has been officially released on October 1st.

Major features


-3 new playable partners
-Most icons have been upgraded to their final version
-The story now branches into different directions, based on the choices you made in Chapter 1.
-Shopping system is now in.
-Inspiration System is now optimized, with some gadgets and robot parts being craftable already

1.0.11.1 Patchnotes

Another small update which adds a whole bunch of stuff which was aimed to be released together with Chapter 2.
But since it takes a bit longer than expected, I decided to add in the Chapter 1 stuff now already.

Art


-Added many new icons for the ingredients for the upcoming Potion Brew System in Chapter 2.
-Replaced all placeholder buff icons with the finished ones.
-Added some bavarian cards in the tavern to the background.

Bugfixes


-Fixed INTERACT showing after triggering for events that can only occure once.
-Fixed a super weird bug when starting a new game after being defeated by the Demon.
-Fixed running away from non-runable battles causing a softlock due to the game playing an unreferenced message.

System


-Fixed Bonjavelin's sprite animations, it's no longer asynchrone to his faceset.
-Icons can now be displayed inside typewriter text. The demon tutorial now shows the icon instead of saying "JUMP".

Gameplay


-You can press ESC to get out of certain choices (talking with Charla, Annathasia)
-Added shopping. Has not much use yet as currently only ingredients are available.

Overworld


-Added new NPC Awanie to Eleno, moving Reko a bit away
-Helga now opens her shop.
-Added intro warning about fictional work. That means Johanna isn't real :(
-Cleaned up Ladder System a bit.
-Changed Shader in Kaltstein to Pixel Lit for better light calculation.
-Made Kaltstein's Spook encounter even more spooky.
-Added Info about Potion Brewing to Bookcase. Maybe there's a better way to tutorial Potion Brewing in later chapters. (Chapter2 stuff)
-Checking William's books now requires a certain Quest to be active. (Chapter2 stuff)
-Jasmine is briefly reading the Eisenherz Novel in Kaltstein (added an animation)
-The Red Room is now set under water. After all, "wir wollen nichts versäumen".

Battle


-Fixed Jasmine inflicting Bleeding if only 1 out of 2 commands were hit.
-Fixed Selector Icons resetting the animation when switching between characters.

Hey everyone, looks like we got another small update before Chapter 2.

Adding in some additional quality of life features, though on a smaller scale.

Bugfixes


-Fixed the x0 crystal bug.
-The Sandmann now teleports onto Johanna's robot, threatening her with his knife.
-Fixed Jasmine's intro tavern cutscene not giving friendship points

System


-Changed Mare Noctem from being an infection into a curse. You know why.

-Throw skills and items are now easier to control (bone and William's stick)
-Defeating Woyzeck now shows a victory message.

-Johanna's jump attack now has some vertical camera shake.
-Nyx is now worth 8 XP (instead of 2)
-Coppelius Health Bar is no longer visible when not tattled.

Changed Action Point system, Johanna now always has 2 Action Points regardless of partysize.
Balances Changes due to the new system:


-Grounded Crows now have 2 instead of 3 HP.
-Punch costs 2 AP instead of 1 SP.
-All bottles are now "quick items" which don't consume Action Points.


Work on Chapter 2 continues at a good rate, BUT I might need to delay it's release due to some troubles related to the current COVID situation.

The 1.0.10 Quality of Life patch



Hey everyone,

I decided to release the big QoL update which was originally planned to be part of the Chapter 2 update. Since it's still some months until its release (currently estimated to be the end of May), I thought it would be great especially for new players to gain access to the Menus, Level System and other various improvements already.


NOTES


Starting a new game is advised, as all points gained by leveling up were not awarded in previous versions.

Bugfixes


-Fixed the item duplication bug when loading a game (how did I miss that).
-Small audio volume fixes for some skills.

System


-Text Selections are now shown as the current text appears, instead of after it completly appears to prevent accidental skipping.
-Added an indicator for NPCs in the Overworld (in Eleno), to indicate if they have something new to say. Mostly important for future chapters.
-Added WASD as alternative controls for Keyboard.
-Moved interact from [UP] to [E] on keyboard.
-Enabled Unity Resolution Settings Menu. Can also be used to change hotkeys.

Gameplay


-Added Friendship System. Engaging with NPCs in a positive ways may net you points, each heart represents 4 points overall.
Mostly important for decisions in future chapters.
-Added Quest System. Should help keeping track about Johanna's current tasks.
-Added LOCK system for text selections.
-Added Level system. The game is finally an RPG.

Overworld


-Removed first three intro text passages.
-Added fully functional Pause Menu with 5 categories (has some placeholder art in certain places).
-Added in Wakeup Signal Sound (retroactively added to Kaltstein in Chapter1).
-Added new Skybox for LonelySand (+battle)
-Added corona effect to "obvious" dream areas.
-Fixed Interact Button sometimes not being registered.
-Added SavePoints to LonelySand and start of Mansion Kaltstein.

Battle


-Nerfed Johanna's starting stamina down, from 3/6 to 2/4.
-Added Shield System for players and enemies.
-Adjusted Buff size and positions, made them smaller.
-Wuselrat (& Stormrat) Hide skill now grants +1 Shield instead of giving +1 physical armor buff.
-Stormrat HP buffed to 5 again. XP from 4 to 5.
-Mr.Foxxie regained his Triple Shine ability. Now gives +3 Shield.
-Mr.Foxxie now gains Well Fed buff if he hits a player with his bite. Lasts for 1 turn.
-Fixed Chili Buff (green) not getting refreshed upon using it again before time runs out.
-Added sound cue indicating the timing of when to release/press a timed action.
-If any Partner has 0 HP at the start of the battle, their HP will be increased to 1 HP. Does not affect PermaKill moves.

Achievement


-Added "See Montgomery, it burns" (Chapter 1)
-Added "Peace was never an option" (for future chapters)


Known Issues


-Jasmine's crystal is still in the inventory with 0 charges after defeating Woyzeck.

Dev Talk #2



Hey everyone,

We almost reached 50 sales (yey).
Right now I am working hard on Update 1.1.0.0, which will feature the 2. Chapter of TDE.

Estimated release window is still the month May.

Right now I am wondering if I should release another patch in between, which will add in some of the newer features for Chapter 1 already.

This would include:
-Friendship Points
-Working Pause Menu (halfway done atm)
-Text changes, typo fixes
-A wake up signal at the end of Kaltstein (think about Inception's "Non je ne regrette rien")
-New background/skybox for Lonely Sand Dream.
-Critical Bug Fixes (item duplication, New Game corruption, Chili Buff stack, aspect ratio fix)
-New Achievements
-Improved Decisions

I'll keep you guys informed if and when this update comes out.

Future Chapters


-Befriending NPCs will now also work if you accepted a pact.
There will be another undisclosed downside instead, so be warned.


System


-Drafted the first two Pausemenu Pages (my work here is not done yet).
-Implemented TextMeshPro
-The StartMenu might change if you die.
-Optimized all Facesets. It cut down the size of the game (2.4GB to 1.6GB) as well as it's RAM usage.
-Adjusted all Faceset heights to match with the intended character heights (Doria taller, Gri smaller).
-Replaced all BOLD texts with YELLOW text.
-You can now interact by pressing UP on the left gamepad stick.

Overworld


-Added jumpsound for Johanna.

-Jasmine's attack now causes a screenshake at the intro
-Added another intermission after accepting the Woy Pact.
-Game now saves directly before the Pact choice.

Battles


-Dream Demon strangling attack speed up, 10->5 ticks with 1->2 damage each.
-Generally improved the first Dream Demon battle, make it easier to block his attacks.
-Changed Wrench sound to match Fist sound (it fits more against most enemies)
-Punching and using the wrench now have a "hold left and release" Action Command.
They also have more "impact", screenshake+flash and making it more epic.
-Evading/Blocking is now a bit more clear.

That's the last update on the first chapter for now.
Starting tomorrow, my work on Chapter 2 will start.
There might still be some more QoL updates until Chapter2 is finished, but none with focus on additional content.
