Hotfix #3 v0.3.006: Mac Start-Up Woes Fixed

Greetings everybody -- just uploaded a late-night hotfix to address a crash on startup we (and many of you) were seeing on the Mac. If you were playing on the Mac either in OSX or Win7 through bootcamp, this crash should now be gone.

This will be version v0.3.006. Though we're not sure that the bug was affecting PC/Win7 systems, we updated both platforms, just to keep everybody in sync.

There remain a few crashes we are looking into that might be unrelated. Please keep the feedback coming if you have any problems, crashy or otherwise.

Really sorry about the inconvenience, everybody.

Hotfix #2 v0.3.005 - Bug fixes galore

Hi everybody -- Hotfix #2 just went live. No huge new features in this one, just a whole ton of bug fixes, addressing everything from crashes, to late-game slow-downs to mysterious disappearing rain.

Here's the full list:

  • Player can now empty jars
  • “custom cursor” setting is now saved & restored
  • Consuming a jar on Aesop no longer destroys the jar if your inventory is full
  • Cancelling at a well or pump no longer deactivates it
  • Inventory focus remains in place when something is moved or used
  • Crafting defaults focus to the item list, not the filter list
  • Inventory size for the backpack now has a ceiling. After it’s hit, pouches can no longer be applied.
  • expanded raft capacity, both default & with expanded storage upgrade
  • Fixed floating leftover islands bugs
  • Can no longer collect items at a distance by pressing E (mouse/keyboard only)
  • ESC now cancels trap placement (mouse/keyboard only)
  • Altered rain frequency & duration - it never lasts longer than a full 8 hour rest cycle
  • Increased probability of flint at camps
  • Rain system alteration: shelter no longer resets rain.
  • Fixed issue where rain would break after restoring a save game
  • Fixed rain particle bugs
  • Fixed crash on docking
  • Fixed rare crash on savegame restore
  • Fixed late-game UI slowdown
  • Fixed issue with mislabeled Sumac Tea in your crafting menu

Huge thanks to everyone who has sent in feedback and bug reports -- the vast majority of these fixes come from reports by you all. So thanks, you all are the best, and please keep the feedback coming!

Hot Fix Update v 0.3.002

Hi all,

We just set a hot fix live that should help with the difficulty, particularly for first time players.

There are 3 main things we've done:

Wolf Frequency: Wolves won't spawn initially, which should give you time to gather up some resources before you get swarmed.

Affliction Bleed Rates: The rate at which a number of afflictions cause your stats to bleed out has been reduced.

Biome Ramp Up: The initial biome rafting experience has been eased a bit, so you'll hit fewer rapids in the first couples miles of the river.

Let us know what you think in the forums. Thanks!

The Flame in the Flood is available NOW on Early Access

Exciting day for us here at The Molasses Flood! You can now pick up The Flame in the Flood here on Early Access. Enjoy the game, and let us know what you think! The game is still in development, so any feedback you have is SUPER IMPORTANT!

Launch date for Early Access

Today is an exciting day for us. We’ve pinned down a date, and are ready to tell the world.

We’re coming to Early Access on Steam on September 24th, at 10 AM PST!

For those of you who backed us on Kickstarter and have already been playing, our early access launch will also include an update with a number of new features. Along with the usual bug fixes and bits of polish, we’ll have a new biome, raft upgrading, and endless mode. The new biome is the industrial area. It has fewer supplies and opportunities for shelter, so stocking up before hand will be very important. Raft upgrading includes a number of enhancements to the raft, to help overcome the lack of resources as you travel further. Upgrades include things like a stove, where you can cook food and warm yourself, and a motor, which will allow you to propel down river faster when you hit still water. Endless mode allows players to see how long they can survive.

We’re really excited (and a little nervous) about going wider, but have been reassured by the great feedback we’ve seen from backers, the press, and streamers who have had a chance to play. It’s been a crazy year for us, and is only picking up from here. It’s hard to fathom that we formed this team just over a year ago, and launched our Kickstarter less than a year ago. We’re all from AAA backgrounds, so going from idea to launch in just over a year feels like a breakneck pace for us. We’re indebted to everyone who’s played, shared us on various social media, backed the project, and taken the time to offer feedback. We couldn’t be doing this without you all.

Thanks so much, and we’ll see you on the river!

Backer Beta v. 0.2

The September update is now live!

This is our second major update since the beta launched, and features lots of new stuff.

As a reminder, if you want to join the conversation about these changes, or the game in general, come join our TFITF Backer Beta Google Group!

Here are the update highlights!

Water V3

We’ve again tweaked the way that water works. Now rather than carrying a single canteen, the player can collect water in jars. These jars can also be used to hold tea or as the basis of a smoke bomb.

Furthermore, when collected, the water is “polluted”: it’s swimming with toxins and heavy metals and other contaminants. The only way to now make that water safe for consumption is to filter it. Water filters can be crafted out of rags and charcoal (now collectible from campfires) and are good for three uses.

Clean water can also be collected from a few new sources: ground pumps, wells and rain.

Boars

We have a new AI type in the game: wild boars!

Boars will leave you alone … until you enter their territory. Then they will charge you ruthlessly until you leave. Protip: you do not want to be gored by a charging boar.

Water Hazards

Every once in a while in a swollen raging river, uprooted trees, garbage and other debris will coalesce into a tangled house-sized clump and float downstream. Protip: don’t get hit by the tangled floating house-sized clumps. They will damage your raft.

More art!

Chad and Sinc continue to throw art into the game as fast as they can. This month Chad has spent on further fleshing out the small town biome, while Sinc works on assets for the next one.

The Full List

In addition to the above, you will see lots of other tweaks and upgrades, including more UI improvements. Here’s the full list:

    Water updates:
  • Water is now stored in jars
  • Water can be collected from wells, the rain, standing water, or the river
  • Contaminated Water must be filtered with a Water Filter (new item)
  • Teas now require a Jar and Clean Water to brew, and occupy a Jar
  • The Canteen has been removed
    Fire updates:
  • Charcoal can be gathered from a fire
  • Lit fires can be used as a sleep location
    Buildings:
  • Buildings can all now be looted or slept in
    UI improvements:
  • Numerous UI improvements for navigation and clarity
  • Items can now be consumed and used directly from Aesop’s bag
    Options:
  • added more graphics options to improve performance on lower end hardware
    River Obstacles:
  • floating hazards now spawn in the river along with static islands.

Known Issues

Lots of changes this month particularly with water, one of the main resources in the game. Due to this change as well as some others, the game has definitely become more forgiving! So you can likely expect this build to be a bit unbalanced toward the easy side. For those of you who are worried about losing the challenge, don’t worry, the balance issues will be shaken out and addressed in in the coming weeks!
