Green Villagers
New Inhabitants are arriving to Torridge Island. These green villagers are naturally found in sandy areas of the island and are proficient in mining for resources. Mix and match these villagers into the other two tribes to build mines.
Mines are a new building type that like farms can't be moved by the giant and takes 1 green villager to build. Once a villager enters the mine they will take 60 seconds before emerging with a gift. This can contain either a stone, a star or a tear.
When using boats, green villagers will try and sail far away from the island to recruit new inhabitants from far off lands, so make sure they don't crash into any land mass along the way!
This Update adds:
Green villagers
Green village type
Mines
New Houses
Alongside some tweaks and bug fixes:
Foundations of buildings aren't visible when being carried by the giant.
Villagers that have been moved to a new biome can no-longer start builds until the next day (they can still help in already started projects).
Fixed boats placed at the world limits being trapped outside of the island bounds.
Fixed issue where killing a villager without a set town would result in a kill loop.
Villagers will no longer spawn in water when a new day starts.
Fixed issue where new villagers could be stuck in a thinking animation while walking.
Fixed eating fish animation being cut off.
Boats & Builders
The Villagers on the island have been hard at work improving their abilities for this new update!
Boats: Boats can only be built by blue villagers, however any colour villager can use them by simply putting a villager in the boat and then placing them in the ocean.
Blue Villagers will begin to fish while red villagers will sail to and from the island dropping presents at any port they land on. Once both finally return back to shore they may struggle with finding their way home if their village isn’t close by, so make sure to either help them back or set up a new village when they arrive.
Boats are fragile, so if the Giant gets in the way of a boat the villagers are at a great risk of drowning so be careful!
Builders: The way building works in The Giant of Torridge Island has been completely reworked, giving you more control over what gets built.
Villagers still need to gather both wood and stone resources before attempting to build, however their capacity to find these on their own has been improved.
Once space has been made to build rather than simply setting up the scaffolding and walking off, you can now actively see the villagers working on the project. Multiple villagers can now work on the same project, with each builder added making the end result bigger and better.
Here’s a key of current buildings and how many villagers are required to build them:
Red Villagers: 1 builder: Farm (can now be built in all biomes) 2 builders: House 3 builders+: Windmill
Blue Villagers: 1 builder: Boat 2 builders+: Igloo
Now that this new system is in place, expect more potential buildings to be added soon!
Some unfortunate news: Taddiport and Shebbear are being removed as maps as once again there are problems with the new mechanics being implemented into them. The plan is for them to be remade completely once app game mechanics have been finalised.
Challenge mode is also being temporary disabled, however this is due to it being completely reworked for a future update, however it is currently not playable by the time this update goes live, sorry about that.
Other Patches:
Days now last 15mins rather than 10mins
Fixed issue where villagers wouldn’t die when drowning while creating a new village
New sound FX’s
Presents no longer include the old tree models.
Fixed issue where stars and tears would be blocked from view
Buildings and villagers drop stone when destroyed.
Updated Encyclopedia.
Tweaks to and more lines of narration.
Graphical Update
Some Graphical enhancements are coming to Torridge Island! The project is starting to move towards a more oil-painting like aesthetic which this update will give a small taste of. The project may lean into the change more but for now it's simply a step towards that art style.
This Update has added
Palm-trees
Improved tree models
Outlines for all intractable objects
A hazy effect to far away objects
Clouds
More particle effects
New steam library, achievement and store-page artwork.
This update also fixes the following issues:
An issue where birds would sometimes fail to grab fish out of the Giants hands.
The Giants footsteps can no-longer be heard while the end of day stats are showing
Fixed penguin movement so they don't clip through the floor when placed on a steep incline.
A Giant Update
The Giant of Torridge Island is getting new looks and abilities in an update available now! The Giant can now take different forms depending on whether its' actions are deemed good or evil by the villagers.
If the villagers like the Giant it will become an angelic entity, gaining the ability to repair damaged objects, heal hurt villagers and wildlife and increase its mobility. At its most angelic, the Giant will glide on a cloud and not accidentally damage anything it treads over. If the villagers dislike the Giant it will become a demonic entity and be able to attack large objects. At its most demonic, the Giant will be able to create tornadoes, causing more destruction on the island.
Here is a list of all the new features added:
Implemented a new morality scale mechanic
Added 4 new transformations for the Giant
Replaced the tornado model and animations
Added the ability to heal objects
Added the ability to create tornadoes
New encyclopedia entry
New narration
New achievements
And here is a list of bug patches:
Increased growing cap from 3 to 10 levels
Fixed villagers spawning on-top of newly built houses
Fixed issue where houses could rotate randomly while being carried
Unfortunately current projections are that the game will miss its official launch at the end of February and will need a little more time to ensure that the launch state of the game reaches its true potential and includes all the promised content set out at the start of its early access availability.
Thanks for playing and hopefully the project will be ready for a full release soon!
Version 0.5.3
Made The Giants' picking up animation more natural .
Fixed bug where windmills were built on their sides.
Fixed bug where kicking a villager asking for help would leave a speech bubble in the air until the end of the day.
Farming Update
Happy new year everyone! We're starting the new year with an upgrade to farming on Torridge Island:
Red Villagers in grassland areas can now build Windmills.
When harvesting crops a haybale is created.
Here is a list of bug fixes also included in the update:
Village flags now disappear when a village reaches a population of 0.
Wilting trees in snowy areas no longer float above the ground.
Expect Updates to ramp up during the start of this new year as we approach the official launch hopefully at the end of February!
Version 0.5.1
Taddiport and Shebbear are back in Freeplay Mode (Unfortunately old save files are incompatible with the villager update).
Flags can now be found at the center of every village. They also show what cultures are prominent in the village.
Fixed issue with challenge stages destroying buildings upon loading.
Villager Update (Part 1) + Water Update
Welcome back to Torridge Island! It's been a while so without any waffling here is a couple of new updates which are now live.
Villager Update (Part 1)
This Update is the first of three waves of updates to the villagers on the island. This first wave focuses on bringing the two existing tribes together into one map! Because of this, villagers are now able to venture into biomes they previously couldn't, adapting their buildings to the new environment. The Giant can also create new villages now, including hybrid villages containing members of both tribes!
This update includes:
The Ability for the Giant to create new villages.
The Ability to move villagers from one village to another.
Villagers have new building types.
A new map (Bideford).
Unfortunately, due to the new village building mechanic Taddiport and Shebbear save files are incompatible with this update, so the maps have been temporarily removed until backwards compatibility can be achieved.
Water Update
No longer will water simply act like land and look kinda funky and not really make any sense. Villagers can now fish in water sources! The villagers haven't leant to swim however, so the possibility of drowning is very real. It might be best to hold off on the underwater village idea for now as much like the villagers, buildings have a hard time sticking around when submerged as well.
This Update Includes:
Villagers can fish in water.
Villagers can drown in water.
Buildings can be damaged and destroyed by water.
Patches and bug fixes:
Fixed issue where villagers may run around rapidly trying to complete multiple tasks at once.
The Freeplay menu now features a map of the island.
The Freeplay menu now shows what tribes and natural phenomena are found on each map.
Fixed issue where villagers wouldn't build even after clearing the area asked.
Fixed issue where villagers wouldn't walk to stones or trees given to them when asked.
Changed the island on the menu to Bideford.
Fixed issue where the Giant wouldn't carry some trees correctly.
5 new achievements.
Updated the Encyclopedia.
I feel like I end every update with this message but sorry for the long wait. The code this project was founded on was awful in terms of scalability (Being able to add new things), so a lot of time simply went into rewriting old code. That issue is dealt with now however, so updates should be able to be more frequent and smaller in scale if needs be. Still hoping to complete this project by February latest but we will have to wait and see what winter brings!
Thanks for checking in and hopefully be back soon with more updates.
Patch Notes V0.2.1
Fixed issue where red female villagers would stand in place after loading a Taddiport save file.
