The Hideaway : Chapter 1 playtest updates

Hey everyone !

I trust everyone is doing great and eagerly anticipating the upcoming playtest!





I will be pushing an experimental version of the game on the Steam servers during this weekend, unfortunately, the Steam validation process takes from 3 to 5 business days to validate a published build... So the playtest might only start during next week I am really sorry for the inconvenience.

However, the playtest will last for one to two months during which I am planning to update the game, patch the issues (and there will be a lot) and to finalize the implementation of some gameplay elements.

For all that I will need your help explorers! Feel free to contact me on Discord, Steam or through the community page of The Hideaway, pointing out the issues you came across, even things you might want to be changed. I will read every single message.

Don't forget that it is a playtest of an early-access game, you are going to play an extremely experimental version of The Hideaway. You may experience issues and bugs, which you are greatly invited to highlight. I hope that this playtest will really help enhancing the game global experience.

Thanks a lot for everyone still following the project and I would like to thank everyone who registered to the playtest, we're nearly a hundred now and it really touches me to have so many people caring about a project I had to put on hold for two years.

Here is an older trailer about this version, even if the lore and the main gameplay loop of the game was modified, it's worth a shot ! ^^

The Hideaway - Chapter 1 Playtest

Hello everyone and welcome to this new Devlog !



I'm pleased to announce that a playtest of The Hideaway will be opening soon,
and you can already register for free on the Steam page of the game !



I hope you are all doing well and I hope you didn't forget about The Hideaway. I'm really sorry to be so irregular in my publications. However, during that time, I've been working on new things for the game including :


  • The explorer mode : position imprecision issues, player movement, gestion of vessels, resource mining, procedural flora placement, procedural orbits and planet self-rotation, realistic light management ...

  • The story mode : lootable notes, codes to find, breaker sequences to understand, resources and basic crafting, environment and visual optimizations

  • Global performance optimization : The Hideaway should now run way better on all platforms. I've implemented more LOD's, Impostors, compressed textures. The grass is now GPU-Computed.

  • Extractions : To extract each environment in Story Mode, you will have to untangle the secrets of every map. Each map is different and has its own way out.

  • Issues with vitals : I've made player vitals way more easy to manage. Eating is now required but not eating is only deadly on a long term.

  • Unpurified and purified water / safe foods : The food and water you will be able to find in your environment is not safe to consume, each time you eat/drink you'll have a proability of catching a deadly disease.

  • Deadly bushes : Deadly bushes have been nerfed. The probability of them giving you a disease is now 40% per direct contact.


All those features will be included in The Hideaway - Chapter 1 playtest so REGISTER NOW !!

THE HIDEAWAY : CHAPTER 1 - SUMMER DEVLOG

Hey everyone, I hope you're all doing well !
Welcome to this new devlog about The Hideaway : Chapter 1 update !



What's new about The Hideaway : Chapter 1 ?



  • The Hideaway : Chapter 1 will feature a large scale multiplayer mode, one server with a maximum of hundreds of players connected, crashing on a random planet of a realistically-simulated galaxy. Players will have to survive, explore bases, collect loot and mine ressources on the planets, in order to one day be able to craft or exchange a ship and explore the galaxy !




  • This multiplayer mode will feature spaceships, enemy bases to destroy all along the galaxy. Explore up to 20 small and large scale planets without any loading screen, simply fly in and out of the atmosphere with your spaceship and join other planets in minutes.




  • The whole star system will be simulated using newtonian physics, day and night cycles will be defined by the procedural angle and speed of self-rotation of every planet, planets will follow circular and elliptical orbits around the nearest star.




  • Discover many different types of planets : Desertic, Tropical, Icy, Rocky and Alien, featuring more or less dense atmospheres, different sunsets, colors, soils composition, resources to exploit, sometimes some vegetation. Each planet will be more or less secured by agressive groups of spacecrafts depending on the amount of loot and resources available on its surface.




  • Every planet will feature some abandoned research bases on their surface, sometimes requiring to find petrol, generators and even codes to access them. In each base you will be able to find some loot, machines, workbenchs, gaz masks and many more !




  • Player property in The Hideaway will be enforced by "domes", only the player who placed a dome will be able to go through it and access the items and machinery placed under it. To share or exchange something with another player you will have to drop resources directly from your inventory, out of a dome.

  • The server will be perpetually connected, every modification you will make to the environment, every resource you mine, everything you will harvest during your journey is unique and won't be respawned or destroyed. Server resets will happen once every month and every session is unique, if you leave the game, you will restart from nothing but your base won't be destroyed.

  • The story mode of The Hideaway will soon be ready !





The first update for The Hideaway : Chapter 1 should be playable in August-September 2023 on Steam. The game's price will increase up to 4.99 USD after the release of the first update of the first chapter.

DEVLOG #5 - The Hideaway : Chapter 1

Welcome to this 5th devlog about The Hideaway : Chapter 1 update :)



What's new on The Hideaway ?

  • Optimization : I've nearly doubled the overall performance of the game on all my testing devices
  • New visual technologies :DLSS Anti-Aliasing and Dynamic Visual Occlusion
  • Enhanced visuals : I've reworked the outdated Post-Processing profiles
  • A new puzzle type : The Hideaway now also features digicodes, you will new need codes to enter certain areas
  • New high-tech bases : Interactive physical buttons, animated doors, new sound design and visuals
  • Workbenchs are now all fully implemented into the game : 3D printer, Mechanical Workbench, Basic Workbench and Chemical lab
  • Resources for crafting can now also be mined using the "mechanical arm" wisely placed over a resource deposit
  • Added a new type of plant : There are now some healing plants that can heal you from certain diseases
  • A new defense system : The military bases now features an air to ground defense system, firing autoguided-missiles
  • In-game survival system notifications : The game now notifies you if your player catches a disease, eats something or if the current exterior temperature drops by any reason
  • New soundtrack system : From now a random soundtrack will play from the game's playlist
  • Not eating now kills you : If your stomach volume stays at 0% for some time, your player will die
  • The Island map : Without any other way of extracting than crafting a spacecraft you will have to find and use the mechanical workbench out there to craft resource extractors, trolleys, smelters, a 3d printer etc... in order to craft all the necessary elements
  • AI system balancing : I've rebalanced the AI behaviour for it to be globally more friendly
  • The spacecraft combat system is now completely implemented into the game
  • There is now a space combat training mode in which you will have to try to survive to hordes of enemies flying Gen. 1 fighters
  • Food-related diseases (formerly toxic bushes related diseases) are now only catchable by eating fruits from toxic bushes
  • Some Gen. 1 aircrafts are now craftable using all the high tech workbenchs


All the bugs and issues present in the older versions of the game should now be solved.

What am I currently working on ?


  • I'm still writing and implementing the story in every environment and debugging the notes system
  • I'm still debugging the crafting and building system
  • I've been working on environments and different bases accessibility : digicodes, petrol generators, "jumps" to make and missiles doging
  • I'm currently working on adding physical destruction to some vessels, and space stations
  • I'm still working on the different maps extracts
  • I am planning to create a "nuclear generator maintenance system" in which the player will have to "maintain" the high tech nuclear generators findable in recent bases
  • I am also working on making all game keys bindable and graphics fully customizable
  • I am also working on a craftable buggy that can be driven (will be part of the 1st chapter)

The Hideaway : Chapter 1 will be released on Steam in August 2023. There will be few open test phases in order to hunt bugs before the official release in late June on the official Discord server.

DEVLOG #4 - The Hideaway : Chapter 1

Hey everyone ! I hope you're all doing great !
Welcome to this 4th devlog about The Hideaway : Chapter 1 update



What's new about The Hideaway : Chapter 1 ? What has been implemented so far ?


  • From now, as a space explorer, every mission will start on your "Main Ship", the Infinity Mark 3, a large 2 decks exploration spaceship featuring a large hangar containing your personal fighter ship. It's the place where you'll monitor all your upcoming missions.

  • New Ship : The TCS Constellation, a medium-sized 3rd generation exploration vessel you may encounter in your journey



  • New Interfaces : You willl be able to choose the destination of your next trip by interacting with the Infinity main holo-table : here will start your journey

  • New HFCS spacecraft : You will have access to one of the most advanced fighter : the HFCS Dream, featuring hyperspace travel and a 12 million watt laser turret capable of firing nearly 600 times per minute



  • A new space station : You will be able to explore the Earth explorator's research space station !

  • Emergency vessels have also been included to the game, you may need them, who knows ?



  • Once you have chosen your planet of destination, you will find yourself in a random environment from those available on the planet, from which you must extract yourself. Gathering informations about what happened here may also be helpful

  • A new character model and new animations has been implemented : you now have a proper pilot's outfit !



  • The Hideaway : Chapter 1 will feature 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation fighters and vessels. Most of the stuff you will find on Earth and on Exoplanet K2-3d may not work as well as it once did...

  • What about the older vessels ? : The LFCS Typhoon presented in the last devlog is part of the 1st generation fighters but is still mainly used in airspace security systems because of its versatility, simplicity and automation capability.

DEVLOG #3 : The Hideaway - Chapter 1

Hey everyone ! I hope you're all doing well !
Welcome to this third Devlog about The Hideaway : Chapter 1 !



The Hideaway : Chapter 1 will feature a lot of new visual technologies such as SSAO and SMAA but also volumetric clouds, reworked natual and meteorological events, direct wind effect on vegetation, reworked image post-processing and many more !

In terms of AI, this update will feature a more balanced and realistic AI system, giving a lot more immersion to the player

What's new ?

This update will be featuring spaceships and space battles, using a physically-based flying system and missile system for you to explore the environments more easily and even escape the planet, but beware of heavy drone fighters protecting the airspace !
Take the controls of fighters, cargos and commander ships to escape and/or fight for your life !





There is now an interaction with bushes, you can chose which one to eat and have to wait for the fruits to grow back before eating from the same plant. When you are eating fruits in the wild, there is now a probability that you will contract different diseases, some of which may kill you in a short or long term, the survival system will tell you if you have contacted any type of disease and why.

The new crafting system now also features water pumps, food units and dome generators, respectively providing safe food, water and creating a safe space for the player. Those systems will be craftable through the classic workshop : findable in every map's abandoned bases, but needs to be powered using generators in order to be functionnal.



The whole game interface has been completely remaked, from the main menu to the in-game's interface, for it to be more simple, good looking and understandable.

As it was requested by the community, now when you die, the game doesn't bring you back to the main menu it simply relauches a new game on the same environment and you have no more actions to do !

Expected release date : 06/2023

DEVLOG #2 : The Hideaway - Chapter 1

Hey everyone ! I hope you're all doing well, welcome to this second devlog about The Hideaway - Chapter 1



I did receive all your messages / comments and reviews and read them carefully, and I am genuinely sorry you're feeling so disappointed about The Hideaway.

It has been a few months since I have been working on all the issues you pointed at and on adding some real gameplay to the game with The Hideaway - Chapter 1 update.

I know that the current state of the game is absolutely not perfect. I've put the game on Steam in such an early state to be able to develop the game from scratch according to the wills of the community.
The Hideaway - Chapter 1 is on its way, and most of the things presented in the official trailer are already fully implemeted into the game. But I've decided to delay its release by a few months to focus on the state of the game and in order to offer you a beautiful, fun and working experience : I will keep you posted about the release of The Hideaway - Chapter 1 so stay tuned !

I will still be reading all your comments and reviews about the game, so please comment about the game to help it grow,

For those wondering, The Hideaway - Chapter 1 will be the greatest update The Hideaway has received to date. Featuring many new environments, biomes, sounds, game mechanics and interfaces but most importantly it will feature the first chapter of the game story

DEVLOG #1 - The Hideaway Chapter 1

Hey everyone ! :D



Welcome to this first devlog about The Hideaway and most importantly about The Hideaway - Chapter 1 ! I hope you're all doing well !



It has been quite some time since I've posted something around here and I'm really sorry about that, I will try to keep you informed more about what I'm working on and at what stage are things at through this devlog format :)

What will be the new features of The Hideaway - Chapter 1 ?

Well I've been working on implementing many new things from new game logics and mechanics to visuals, sound effects and environments but what this update will feature most importantly is the setting up of a new different story for each environment

New game mechanics :


  • A new crafting and inventory system : table-based and recipe-based, you will be able to gather, extract and craft many objects, but still no weapons ;)
  • Vehicles : A buggy will be craftable using special workshops and tech you will have to find, allowing you to move around bigger environments
  • Generators / Petrol : You will have to find Jerrycans which you will have to fill in petrol in order to activate some electricity generators, giving you access to some special places to explore
  • Button puzzles : To activate certain systems you will have to activate some buttons in a precise order, which you will have to find in some notes around every environment
  • Notes / Story system : The story of each environment will unfold through notes that you will find in places abandoned by humans, recounting their stories
  • Automatisation : You will be able to craft resource extractors and conveyors, to deport your resource production. Further automatisation will be the subject of a subsequent update.


New environments :

Three new environments will appear in the game, one large environment and two smaller ones, all featuring their own secrets :)

Enhancements :

  • Bloom and smoke effects
  • New sound effects and sound management
  • Survival status balancing
  • And many more...


Many other things are going to be added / modified according to what the community asked for :)
