Weekly Patch 24: Initiate update round 1, bug fixes and more

We have decided to make Initiate difficulty a mode to learn the game. Currently Initiate difficulty gives better drop rates and has enemy intent. We are doing a 2 part update to make this mode more geared towards learning.

Reminder this is only Initiate difficulty

The first part that comes with this update is no death. Players will continue the game after being defeated, instead of having to restart a whole new game. On death you will be thrown back to your previous hex, heal to full health, and in some instances get a piece of gear that will help tremendously.

We decided to go down this path for a couple reason. We wanted a safer/easier way for players to learn the mechanics, especially if they are coming from various other deckbuilders. As The Last Hex is more about the stats as opposed to finding the best cards. It is a mind shift, and a constant item that players bring up. The second reason is difficulty, this will give players a safe mode to play in to learn the game without fear of death.

We have a couple more tweaks coming over the next few updates that will build out our version of an intent system that conforms to our initial idea of the game, and we may phase out the current intent system.

- Players playing initiate can now not die - Instead will be revived. This is the first part to making initiate mode the mode to play to learn the game in a safer environment, before moving onto adventurer or hero.

Call for assistance
- Some have sent in reports about retry not working. I can not get it to fail. I need more info - What were you fighting? Did an effect kill you? Any info would be great to help solve this particular issue.

- Added extra text to Blood Boil to signify that bleed on enemy increases damage dealt
- Set minimum price to 0 for items in city
- Added some checks to make sure equipment changing works

- Fixed an issue with Payday being added twice after beating trial - people with 2 Payday's will continue to have 2 for a bit (You just get to find it more often for now).

Weekly Patch 23: Bug fixes, updates and some UI updates

This week I have been continuing to work on translations, but I have been able to add some bug fixes that you guys have brought up as well as some UI updates that have been suggested.

As for the new items, I have added basic unlock requirements for classes on the character select screen. Hover over their icons to see how to unlock.

And the bigger UI update is I have added some text to inform the player that the undead has taken a hex.

I also appreciate all the suggestions and bug reports I have been getting! It is really helping me create a better game for everyone!

15% off The Last Hex during the Steam Halloween sale

I wanted to send out a message to say that The Last Hex is on sale for the Steam Halloween sale!

Since our Early Access launch back in May, the game has been updated quite a bit! There is a ton of new content, a ton of new improvements and changes. Many of which are from community findings and discussions!

Some of the bigger changes include

  • Trials - A system of heroic trials that test your ability to adapt in different and interesting ways.
  • Odyssey - A 24 chapter "hard" mode where the game gets harder and harder every time you claim a victory.
  • Plethora of interface changes.
  • Power upgrades for classes.
  • A survival mode

Weekly Patch 22: Finale of Odyssey and bug fixes

It is finally here! The finale of Odyssey! For those that do not know what Odyssey mode is, it is a mode dedicated to players looking for more difficulty. It is 24 levels of runs that progressively get harder and harder with each win. Each class can run through the 24 levels individually.

But yes, chapter 24 has been released and it makes The Lost even harder. His current form isn't even his final form!

Odyssey is now complete! All 24 levels are in. There will still be some updating to them and I am working on some animations for the final one, once beaten. But they are all there!

Weekly Patch 21: Balance tweaks, bug fixes, and retry button

Version Number 0.8.8

This week does not come with a new content, but does come with some balance tweaks which I think is a great thing. I will try to get back to new content next week as I had my wisdom teeth removed this week so I am working my way through that.

All these balance tweaks are for mid/late game. The first thing is that their health has been decreased. And secondly some of their stats have been reduced, to lessen one shot potential.

There are some other balance tweaks that were made for bosses but those are a little more minor, as well as some tweaking of difficulty for some of the trials.

The other fun thing that was added this week was a retry button on the defeat screen so that you can get back into another game quickly.

Weekly Patch 20: Major city update, class skill upgrades and 4 new trials

This week's update comes with a big update to how cities function, we have also added class skill upgrades and 4 new trials

City Update
First up is the city update. We have added 4 new types of shops to cities. The catch is that only one of them appears in each city

Each city will have an Inn, an equipment shop, card shop, and a potion shop. But the 4th shop will be randomized and then set for that city.
You will see either

  • The Trainer - Purchase stat upgrades
  • The War Master - Upgrade class skill
  • The Gambling Den - Play a game of High or Low for some gold
  • The Temple - Remove curses and purchase blessings
  • The Black Market - A one time deal on an ultra rare item


Skill Upgrades
This is something that players have been asking for and we figured it was a good time to introduce it. Each class has 3 levels for their class skill, each level more helpful than the last but not adding any new mechanics to the class. Class skills can be upgraded in cities that have a War Master.

This is the first round of this change. I am sure some tweaking will be needed. But let us know your thoughts on this system.

New trials
Last major addition this patch is 4 new trials

  • Shadow Agent - Reach and defeat the Lost while getting into less than 40 fights
  • Outcast - The only city that spawns is starting city
  • Potion Explosion - Player starts with 1 random potion. Potion bag can only hold 1 potion; Whenever a potion is used, a random potion replaces it.
  • High Score - Achieve a score of 80 for Initiate / 120 for Adventurer or 160 for Hero to achieve victory

First off sorry for missing last weeks patch day. My wife and I moved last week and I have not had a ton of time to work on the game. But we are pretty settled in and I will be back in full development mode this upcoming week.

Weekly Patch 17: New Trials, Odyssey Chapter 23, UI updates and more!

This week I have a lot of awesome updates! I will keep this short and sweet though.

First off lets talk about the new stuff

  • Content wise we have Chapter 23 of Odyssey which brings an upgrade to The Lost.
  • Next we have a new trial Toxicity where you will use poison to make your way through.
  • The next trial is One Strike, where you start out by one hitting enemies....
  • Next is a lot of UI updates, as I am starting to look into integrating controller support. But there is a new start screen layout, a new character select layout and a couple of smaller UI updates around the game.
  • Lastly is the scoring system. This is still being fleshed out and I will go into more details later, but games are being scored now. Some things are worth positive points others worth negative.

Weekly Patch 16: Odyssey 19-22

This week is a little light as I had to travel to Boston for a show. But I have released chapters 19-22 of Odyssey. The last 2 chapters I am looking to get done for this week.

I have also made some good headway on translations and a couple of players have stepped forward to assist in helping me make sure the translations are correct!
