Character Portrait: Emma
Thanks to everyone who participated in our community polls so far. It’s great to see that so many people are emotionally connected to the characters of The Lion’s Song.
In order to get you a head start for next week’s poll about The Lion’s Song: Episode 3 - Derivation, we would like to share a detailed character profile about Emma - the main protagonist of this episode - with you.
Name: Emma Recniczek
Birth Date: October 16th, 1876
Age: 38
Appearance: determined, ingeniouos, humorous
Nicknames: Emmi (as called by her father)
Emma Recniczek is an Austro-Jewish mathematician and logician. She lives in a small apartment in the ninth district of Vienna, which she inherited from her father who died of tuberculosis. She is 38 and works at the library of the University of Vienna keeping book of… books. While this might sound dull, she sports an uncommon sense of (mathematical) humor paired with a strong will and belief in Mathematics and Logic.
Emma got into mathematics through her father Jan Recniczek (an important funder of the University) who convinced many of the lecturers at the time to let her attend classes. However, that was almost fifteen years ago. She worked on her own theories ever since, her job giving her access to some of the most relevant publications in Mathematics and Logic.
At her workplace, she conceals her own notebooks (containing her theories and thought experiments) inside the voluminous registers of the library, pretending to work when actually working on something else.
Emma is working on her big theory on differential logic in an attempt to describe the world around her through changes. She is so enmeshed in her theories that starts to perceive everything around her as changes over time. However, now, she can’t put it all together. She needs input, reflection, feedback from other Mathematicians, above all opinion leader of his time: Professor Gernot Zahler.
Will Emma find a way to discuss her theory with like-minded people? Will she shed light on the problem at the center of her theory in order to achieve a major breakthrough in Mathematics?
The Lion's Song Community Poll - Episode 2
Vote and decide what happens in the finale of The Lion's Song!
Hey everyone,
Thanks a million to all of you who participated in last week's poll about characters in The Lion's Song. We are very excited that so many of you took part and are actively helping us to shape the final episode of our pixel art gem, we are so proud of.
The poll continues this week with Episode 2 - Anthology. We would like to invite you to consider questions about Grete Lawniczak and Joseph Markert. Dive into the story of Episode 2 and think about interesting details you would like to know about those characters.
The entire team enjoyed reading your questions and experiencing your angle to the story as well as characters. As we hoped, our emotional tale triggers different connecting factors for each player, allowing very individual experiences for everyone.
Hence we are very proud to present the first results of this 3 week journey :-)
Community Poll - Episode 1 Final Results
“Winner” of Question 1 with 37,11%:
--> What was it like to talk to Nikol on the telephone?
“Winner” of Question 2 with 42,27%:
--> How is ONE WEEK enough to compose a masterpiece?
The team will make sure that those questions make it into the final episode and we will work hard on good answers to shed a better light on Leos, Arthur and of course Wilma.
As a little reminder what that episode was all about, we thought we’d share a short profile of the protagonist Franz with you.
Name: Franz Markert
Birth Date: December 10th, 1896
Age:18
Appearance: tall, lean, nervous
Nicknames: Franzi (as called by his parents)
Franz Markert is an 18 year old painter. He was born in Bad Vöslau, Lower Austria, where he started drawing in his grand-father’s garden at a young age. Being discovered and labeled as child prodigy, he excelled in his art education, allowing him to skip some primary school classes. However, he ultimately failed to pass his enrollment test into the Viennese School of Arts and Crafts. With his parents deeply disappointed and distraught by his failure, a desperate Franz moved to Vienna to live closer to his grandfather, who continued to support him both morally and financially.
Franz is obsessed with understanding the core of feelings, ideas and human beings which makes him overly observant. It makes him appear nervous in the company of others and he is often described as distracted, as he is constantly occupied with taking in the details of those around him.
Not long after his move to Vienna, one portrait in particular, “Woman with violin”, lead to Franz being discovered by the cultural elite close to the Wiener Moderne. With an advocate in none other than Gustav Klimt, and an already-established connection through his grandfather he was welcomed to the Wiener Salon, a meeting point for art critics, the high society and well-known colleagues.
With all the ups and downs on the road to this moment, only one question remains: will Franz blend in and find a suitable model to challenge his artistic skills? Will this next step finally allow him to see deeper?
Stay tuned for more next week!
