One week to go, New Build
Recent changes:
Put in a new "loading wheel"
Reduced the occurrence of galleries not loading
All galleries should now have close-ups of paintings
Even more screens have help screens
Integrated support for the DLC Art Booklet
Introduced new picture frames
Activated Steam Cloud Saves !
One thing we'd like your help to verify is viewing the DLC art book. Put your mouse in the bottom right corner of the main menu. Does Russel's signature gain focus? If so, and you don't own the DLC (most people don't), then please let us know! (and you might as well click, it's a nice art book.)
Thanks ,
Bob
1 Week!!
Hello Painters!!
We are so proud and excited to announce that The Painter's Playground full launch is officially one week away (Thursday, February 8th at 1PM Eastern time)!
First and foremost, we are forever grateful to all of you who have followed, supported, beta tested, offered suggestions, trouble-shooted, and added artwork to the database! We have had just such a wonderful experience with our community so far - and we are very excited and hopeful to have it grow.
Thank you.
We ask one final thing in return. To all of you who played and have any opinion on The Painter's Playground - please, *please* write a review on launch day. Whether it be good, bad, or indifferent - we love you all and want your honest feedback. As you know, games live and die by reviews, here on Steam. Day one reviews are critically important to get The Painter's Playground noticed by a larger audience.
Thank you in advance to all those who can spare a few moments to write your thoughts in a review on launch day.
And Launch Day!! Be sure to stop by the store page/news feed, because we will be hosting two contests. One contest will have 10 winners with the prize of the DLC Digital Artbook key. The other contest will win you a Huion drawing tablet (4 x 2.23 In OSU Tablet)!
Happy Painting!!!
Best,
Ryan & Bob Next Zen Mechanics

The second update for 2018 is here, with the following notable changes:
added the names of colors to pop-ups in merchant and during play. Thank you color consultant!
we have a new 4th tab of colors, including flesh tones, metals, and royals.
took out a lot of superfluous server calls.
found another security hole and patched it ;)
there is now a "cancel" button when selecting canvas size, meaning you don't always have to start a painting.
added a "button pressing animation" to some things in the studio.
the "achievements" screen is now called "Career", and has more infomation and several sub-options.
UI skins can now be purchased at the crafty merchant, and turned on in the "Career" screen, from the main menu.
other new crafty merchant functions are also activated.
sound effects have been updated
added new steam achievements, for a current total of 96!
On the forums, I mentioned I would try putting the canvas behind the UI during painting. Well, I tried it, and it completely conflicted with the way painting and tool selection work.
Final polish work continues, launch is less than 1 month away!
Bob, NZM
Happy Friday!
Hope you had a great week. Here, check out some cool artwork!
February 8th 2018 Full Launch!

This update contains changes to the Daily Challenge, an accuracy fix for the detail pen and paint bucket, and some new one-time pop-up menus for galleries.
The version number displayed on the first screen is wrong! It says '4f'. Ignore that.... Now the things I got right:
i improved the accuracy of the detail pen
i made it so that a first-time player would go straight to the studio
i fixed an error (caused by the above change), where new users would be unable to do anything (WHOA!)
i found the error that was making people's paintings upload under the wrong user number! (i also fixed it)
i set up the "featured artist" search in the Harbor.
i fixed an issue for canvas detection in portrait mode
i fixed the error where selecting paint bucket would change brush size.
i created a pop-up window that allows you to view the daily challenge gallery without creating an entry
you now receive a copy of all paintings you make in the daily challenge.
you may now vote on Daily Challenge paintings from previous days
there is no longer a "winner" for daily challenges, judge for yourself!
I changed the amount of Bits and Renown you get for making Daily Draws: it scales with artist level.
each vote cast now costs 10 bits.
voting 3 times in 1 play session grants +1 renown per second for 12 hours.
the first time you view a gallery, you get a pop-up about it. For existing users, i apologize, but it will only happen once!
OK, enjoy, and please send any technical issues to me (Bob) at

This is one of our all-time favorite paintings. The depth is wonderful.

Screenshot Friday! Wow, there was *sooo* much competition this week. Impossible to pick. Gotta give it up for Sergeant16bit though - they not only brought the fire, but made many, many high quality works of art. Congrats!
Go check out all their awesome work on the database, or our website!
