The Pegasus Expedition receives new patch and brand new DEMO!
Greetings, Directors!
A week has gone by since the launch of The Pegasus Expedition and it's time for us to serve you the first update! Thanks to your feedback, which we are very thankful for, we have been able to locate and fix multiple issues, including those game-breaking ones. Now it's your turn to enjoy the game! Read the full change log below.
We are also putting up new DEMO version so everyone could try the game for free! This DEMO has been put together from the current version of the game and is much more enjoyable than the previous one, so feel free to give it a go!
If you like the game, we would be really happy if you dropped a review of it here on Steam. It helps more than you think!
Change log:
Changes:
Made Ror clan more passive at the start of the game (Requires new game)
Repair has been made somewhat cheaper and the duration has been capped to 6 turns
Adjusted the behaviour of the Daras-faction, which has been acting too expansively (affects only New Game, not existing saves)
The game now uses Steam Cloud saving system
Fixes:
Fix to a black screen crash issue affecting especially older machines and computers with Windows 7
Hotfix for a bug with "Foothold secured in N214R galaxy" which blocked some players' progress. (affects only saves from before receiving the troublesome quest)
Fixed issue of player being able to capture Otokhot, a quest objective for Maelstyrakh Civil war quest too early and the quest not recognizing it. (only for saves from before capturing Otokhot too early)
Fixed that upgrading a structure would often replace a wrong building with the upgraded one, not the one being upgraded.
Fixed issue of Anabah Movement spawning without war and being friendly. Now they are permanently at war with the player
Fixed an issue with the protectorate event chain not resetting when it should be refused by the player.
Refusing Maelstyrakh Civil War quest would not always remove movement restrictions tied to it.
The current development priorities and upcoming update(s)
Greetings Directors,
The Pegasus Expedition, even in its Early Access release form, is quite a complex and long game; this makes finding and fixing bugs challenging, and properly testing fixes a time-consuming process as well. Rest assured we are hard at work and thanks to the amount of information you, our community, have provided (we cannot stress enough how much we appreciate that, please, keep all your feedback coming), we will be releasing a patch fixing many of the following issues in the coming days.
We believe we have successfully resolved these most critical issues, but testing to make sure everything works properly still takes time, we humbly ask for a little more patience:
Certain operating system language-related issues that prevented launching a New Game
Operating system and system’s processing-related crash that prevented Launching a New Game
A bug blocking progress for some players in the quest objective “Foothold secured” in a very late part of the game.
“Attack Otokhot” quest objective could remain unfulfilled forever as the game wouldn’t notice the player had conquered it in an earlier part of the quest.
Low happiness penalties were often regarded as bonuses, instead of penalties
The Ror clan was too powerful and aggressive in the very beginning of the game. They will now take a bit longer to recover from the initial shock of the player's arrival, and the player will begin with a bit stronger force.
Upgrade button would sometimes remove the wrong building to replace with the upgraded building.
Rebalancing the Repair system, there is now a 6-turn max cap for repair time, and missile salvos and strategic weapons will now have a cheaper refill price.
We are also working on slightly less serious issues and bugs, which might come in a separate patch a few days later:
Anabah Movement could appear without declaring war, causing unintended situations.
Daras acted very aggressively and expansively, often contrary to their intended behaviour. Their behaviour has been enhanced to be more in line with their declared intentions.
Daras would also get their fleets stuck in ex-Tamanin Empire territory, they no longer will venture there too early.
Refusing a certain meeting after the destruction of the Pegasus Republic could result in wrong ending lines.
Fixed some string ID:s showing instead of intended text.
Fixed some typos found in the text.
We are also aware of the feedback on tutorials, and we will be making them more fleshed out, with additional visual elements supplementing text. This will however take more than a few days to properly prepare. In the meantime, you can refer to a beginner's guide we have prepared - let us know if anything in it is still unclear and we can update that much more easily!
We are humbled by the interest our game generated, and the amount of feedback we are getting - but we can always use more, please, don't hesitate and post all positive and negative feedback either here on Steam in the discussions, or on our Discord server.

The Vision behind the Pegasus Expedition - DevDiary 7
Greetings Directors!
The Pegasus Expedition launches into Early Access tomorrow and the final episode of our dev diary series is here as well. After music, graphic inspirations, story and more, the developers decided to reveal their vision behind the game. Have fun and don't forget to check all the previous parts to fully understand The Pegasus Expedition.
The themes of The Pegasus Expedition revolve around the grim reality of ends justifying the means, and how much is simple survival as an end going to justify. With the features forming the story-driven side of the game, such as the game’s dialogue and cutscenes, we had a chance to create a different kind of world conquest experience: one that is not very clean or pretty. Numbers and statistics don’t do all the talking, but there are actual people you have to answer to. We wanted to show how conquering the world could really happen and feel like.
To support this, there are, for example, multiple ways of waging war in the game. The nice way is the hard way. You avoid any collateral damage, and everyone in the galaxy takes note of how you’re trying to do things the right way. But it can be difficult to survive and win while handicapping your force’s real potential.
Then there is the easy way. Doing absolutely everything you can to bring the enemy down. It’s certainly easier to do when you’re not holding anything back. But the galaxy will be watching, and if you keep doing it over and over, they will eventually draw their own conclusions about you. You may reach a point of no return, and turn the whole world against you.
Therefore, the optimal way is a balancing act. The world of The Pegasus Expedition is chaotic and complicated, and there isn’t a good and an evil side to anything. You have a mission and you will have to see it through, but that doesn’t answer all the questions that will arise. How, and at whose expense? And is it really worth it all?
We didn’t want to paint war and conquest as anything they are not. They are a tragedy, but you can’t dwell on that too much either. Because a war is an even greater tragedy if you don’t win it.

Music of The Pegasus Expedition - DevDiary 6
Greetings Directors!
Music is undoubtedly a really important part of every game, even more so in a story-based sci-fi 4X strategy such as The Pegasus Expedition. Today's dev diary focuses exactly on that!
A sense of wonder and discovery, in addition to a sense of epic desperation - the building blocks of the music and atmosphere of The Pegasus Expedition. From the beginning of development, we knew what we wanted the players to feel through our music, and went through many iterations to find the results we were looking for.
As a baseline, I was aiming for something ethereal, to further the sense of desperately drifting through space to find a solution for humanity’s woes. The soundtrack couldn’t be all cold and dark tracks, but at least we could keep both the emptiness and wonder of space without putting too much pressure on the game’s atmosphere.
The best technique for both doing this and achieving a unique feel for the Pegasus galaxy was combining classical minimalist techniques, such as a lone, echoing minimalist piano with deep synths and the occasional post-rock guitar. As an epic thematic glue, we contracted a vocalist, Vantorea, to lend her voice.
The game’s main theme is echoed throughout most of the game’s tracks, with each faction and subtheme having their own instrumentations and versions of the melody. The Tamanin melody, for example, is a cut-up version, featuring a clear, high synth to represent the empire of these birdlike people.
The highs and lows of a strategy game are always a unique challenge, since the pace of gameplay and combat are up to the player. Thus as our mechanics moulded into their final shape and testing progressed, we experimented with different levels of intensity, to try and find the right balance between a certain sense of epicness without making the player feel rushed with their decisions. For instance, we had originally planned our dynamic combat music system to have different levels of intensity with their own tracks and dynamic elements, but found that artificially trying to raise the epicness of combats ended up with many instances where the game’s music system thought a moment was epic, but players didn’t feel so. The option we found to create the best results was raising the bar of the combat music’s intensity a bit, and having the game not try to interpret combat’s intensity at all.

The Pegasus Expedition launches in Early Access on October 20, 2022!
Hello Directors, It is our absolute pleasure to announce that you will be able to lead your expedition into the Pegasus Galaxy starting October 20, 2022. We have prepared a new teaser trailer for you to take a sneak peek at the upgraded visuals of the game, we can't wait for you to try it for yourselves!
After many discussions and feedback from all of you - thank you very much for that, keep it coming, please! - we came to the conclusion that the originally planned single story campaign would not be enough content to satisfy our fans. That's why we have decided to launch the game in Early Access - even at launch it will feature the full campaign with a complete story, which should take around 20 hours to complete, but we have prepared a plan to add more variability and new features to the game to significantly increase its replayability and variability.
We plan to release several content updates, each bringing a new scenario - a customized campaign, very different from the main story - as well as new features, polish and bugfixes based on the feedback from our community. Here is the detailed roadmap for the Early Access period:
EA Content Update #1 - December 2022 / January 2023
New Scenario: Scattered Empires.
A new way to play the game with randomised starting positions and customised start settings for those who want to have a more traditional 4X experience without the story of The Pegasus Expedition.
Gameplay updates:
Quality of life improvements, including expanded camera controls and UI elements to better manage players' empire in late game.
EA Content Update #2
New Scenario: At the Center of It All.
A challenging game format where the player starts with the galaxy’s large and rich center under their control, but is on an inevitable course to an all out war with all other factions.
Gameplay updates:
Environmental hazards now affect some systems of the Pegasus galaxy, making them dangerous for fleets and posing a new challenge for players.
EA Content Update #3
New Scenario: The Height of the Empire.
A scenario where the player is immediately thrust into combat with the entirety of the Tamanin Empire from the start of the campaign. As an alternate history setting, the Tamanin Empire was never split in this scenario, and the full wrath of the Empress will be felt by humanity.
Gameplay updates:
Updates and changes to the game's faction AI to make them more robust when dealing with war and economy.
Diplomacy improvements: Updates to the logic and behavior of other factions within the diplomacy system to improve player experience when using it.
EA Content Update #4
New Scenario: The Exodus.
A scenario where the player starts in an unknown galaxy, chased by an overwhelming tide with the only objective being to survive this endless wave.
Gameplay updates:
Visual enhancements for the game’s combat system and star systems.
Improved visual feel and functionality for Endgame enemies.
FULL RELEASE - 2023
New Campaign: The Purge.
A new campaign that features a new playable faction with powerful unique abilities, but also crippling limitations. Spawn and multiply across the galaxy to consume and destroy all life in the Pegasus Galaxy before it manages to unite against you.
Various bugfixes, general polish and quality of life improvements based on community feedback
What do you think about our plans? Please let us know here in the discussions or join our Discord server, and don't forget to wishlist the game, so you don't miss any news!
