Hello everyone to our 4th devlog! We are very excited to share more development information with you!

New Team Members


We start this devlog with a great news, two more people have joined our team. A short message from our new 3D artist Aitrik and 3D animator AgeTheGee below.

Hi! I'm Albert (Aitrik). Currently, I'm responsible for creating new assets, creatures and redesigning old ones (anything that includes 3D modeling).

Hi There Everyone!😄 I'm Agata (AgeTheGeek) and I'm a 3D animator for softwares like Blender & Maya. I'll be working on animations for creatures and characters that you can meet within the game. I'll do my best to make Warhorn's animation section look great! If you have any questions, feel free to text me on Discord

Experimental Version


The new version of The Warhorn game on which we have focused all our efforts, is only available for developers. We called it the experimental version, it is built on the new Unreal Engine 5.

In this version, part of the game is completely created from scratch, we rewrite old mechanics, which are improved and optimized so that players get a much better feeling from the game than before. As a result, we have the opportunity to test the game at an early stage and get rid of bugs that caused bothersome network lags.

The version is still in a stripped down form, but we consider releasing this version to the public Steam branch. And therefore each of you could play and see how the new version of The Warhorn is created and how it changes, where all the community ideas and opinions would be appreciated. Let us know in the comments if you want to play the experimental version now or if you'd rather wait for the game to be released on the official Steam version. /Lubasz




Game World


We would like to give you a glimpse of what is currently going around map and level design in The Warhorn.

We are currently working on completely new map which is divided into several distinct and unique sections. Each region will contain new activities, different type of biomes, structures to explore and new enemies to face. Every bigger update will add new region to the map, as well as part of main plot connected with it.

First one will include mainly default green biome with some mountain area. Regions are packed with content and interesting places to explore, but we are aware of realism and sense of scale in the game. We don’t want to throw you into a map, where action is constantly happening or there is nothing to do – we would like to keep it balanced and pleasing to play as much as possible. Crows
„Beware of them” the Old man said, his eyes turned into two men who guard the village.
Their equipment was well-made, far beyond reach of the typical watchman.

„If they relate you to other races or magic, they will break you. You will confess to
everything. Even to things you could not do, and then they will hang you.” He finished with
small on his face.

„Why they do that!?” The boy was upset and frightened.

„Did you saw a fish washed ashore?”

„Yes, I did bu…” Old man interrupt him.

„They are like that fish. Their death is coming, the more they struggle, the less oxygen is left.”

Most loyal servants of the von Tiers family and The Crown. The impact of cataclysm was
biggest for nobility, and it was not in they favor. They have to act quickly to maintain they
power. To do so, head of the von Tiers family, gather troops and moved into Tyros, the place
where the anomaly began. They want to achieve two things there. One is secure extraction of
the magic crystal, which may be crucial for the State. The second thing is to understand what
happened and how to reverse the anomaly. The leader of the group is called Baron and his
most trusted man is called Lieutenant. They are proud, loyal and fearless warriors, and they
live by the chivalric code. By the other hand, they feel only contempt to other races and hate
everything which is linked with magic. This attitude is especially seen in Baron behaviors.
The group name emerged from von Tiers crest /Caim



Damage Changes


In the UE5 version there will be only three main damage types - ranged, melee and magic.
Each damage type will be boosted by different bonuses from perk tree and will have
seperated upgrades for damage and critical damage.

Yes, magic will be a valid option for damage-focused and support characters. Sadly, magical
part of perk tree will not be include in first build of UE5 version due to need for fast release of
stable version and fact that magic is available after early game.

Also, in UE5 you will see a new damage type called ,,armor-piercing damage” that as you
can imagine…ignores armor. Starting random fights even with weaker players can end with
taking some damage and brute forcing damage through monster resistances will be more
forgiving but not optimal.

Speaking of monster resistances..
Players will only have damage resistances from armor but in the cases of many creatures
that inhabit world of Warhorn resistances will be split into three categories-melee, magic and
ranged. There will be no arrow-proof or sword-proof creatures but having a party with mixed
playstyles can help in some situations.

New perk tree
The UE5 version will bring new perk tree and big changes to leveling systems-player
characters will level up more often but each level will give less power than in previous power
so we will be able to give you a much longer perk tree with less powercreep.

Survival skills will be contained in two different branches-gatherer and survivor. Each
branch will contains different sub-branches like survivor's ,,athlete line” that gives extra
movement speed and deerslaying ,,forester”.

Combat is damage focused and contains branches with bonuses for melee and ranged
combat. In the future we will add a magic branch but further re-implementation of magic
system will require some time.

Rogue is also known as ,,lol, i didn’t expected that” branch. Here you can decrease fall
damage, improve stealth and bring to PvP battlefield deception-based (or overall based
tactics..) to bamboozle other players.

Defense branch will improve your survivability in combat and in future updates will counter
some nasty abilities of some monsters.

Building is all about improving structures and making better defenses. Defense specialist
will be able to create insanely improved fortifications and fix breaches with only basic

Hi Everyone and welcome to our third devlog! Today we have a few topics to discuss.
But before we start, there’s someone who wants to tell you something:


„Imagine a world. Place which belong to the people. This piece of land was granted to them by the gods, so they could work hard and earn their place in the afterlife. Think about the desert, traveled by nomad clans. Picture the highest mountains, which could almost touch the sky. Fields so lush that they looked like rough seas. May the picture of children, women and man, working together, performing their duties by the divinity's will and with methods, shared from father to son, burn into your mind. It all perished. Monsters flooded our world. Beasts hide somewhere in our woods, and forgotten by the deities races, live in our villages. In one night, our past, present, and future ceased to exist. We angered our gods, and they, in return, began the End of Times!” — Aban, traveler and cartographer


Lore


Alright, last week we have been working really hard to create the whole world and main plot. Most important event was some kind of anomaly which changed everything. Only few people know what exactly happened. By progressing the main quests, you will learn more about that event. What’s essential, when that anomaly happened, magic found a way to this world. Plants and animals are not the same they used to be. Next was nasty beasts and monsters who came after magic, they brought chaos and anarchy with them. All states try to survive in this grim time and new races try to find their home in our globe. Planet has changed. You will wake up on an island after a shipwreck. There are three main groups with different purposes and goals. To save the world, they have to start to work together. Monster and beasts, they are just a part of something older and more evil. This world needs heroes like never before.



Unreal Engine 5


Migration stage continued… Moving the game to the new Unreal Engine 5 is our priority, and we focus all developer resources on it. Many features have been changed in the new engine that require a long analysis and looking for the problems in the existing code. The game is very complex and has many mechanics, so the entire migration process may take a little longer. Most of the game features work properly, and the game is playable on the new engine, but we still require more time. Despite everything, we hope that we will release the new update soon, which will be on the new version of the Unreal Engine.



New World


We are currently working on a new map that will introduce the player to the wonderful world of the game, show the first mechanics and take him to a world full of adventures and dangerous creatures. Although The Warhorn is a survival builder game, we want the world to harmonize with the story and provide the players with even more adventure.



Redesign UI


There will also be changes to the player's interface (UI/HUD). We want the game to feel even better so that the player quickly understands how to use it after entering the game. We received plenty of messages where players had trouble reading or understanding the UI correctly. Not only will we create the interface larger, make it more readable but also, add more interactive elements that will make the interface intuitive.

Perk tree and damage balance


We want to further refine the balance of the game, so the perk tree will be modified and divided into sections that will focus even more on combat, survival, and building. More and different bonuses will be added that will diversify the gameplay and reward the player. In addition, new types of damage will be created, depending on the type of weapon and attack.

  • The player does not drop items upon death (temporarily set for early access only).
  • The player loses 30%-50% of their gold when they die.

The Warhorn - Devlog #2




Welcome everyone to our second Devlog on The Warhorn development. ːTheWarhornLogoː

The Warhorn Team


Over the past four weeks, a new development team has been trained and prepared to work on The Warhorn game and as a result, we managed to release a new update last week.
It was a busy time, but it was spent in a wonderful atmosphere. It was a great decision to enlarge the team because the work on the game is gaining momentum.

We are glad to say that another person joined The Warhorn Team this week. Please welcome Caim who is a writer, he will help us improve our lore and will definitely bring a brilliant vibe to the game.

Hi everyone! My name is Kuba (Caim), my job is to deliver you memorable, interesting characters and enjoyable stories. We’re doing what we can to make The Warhorn a great game. Stay tuned and if you have any questions, you can find me on the discord server.


Next Update


All the time we work on early game balance such as arranging the old town to make it easier for new players. We adjust the treasure chests items to make the game fairer and not totally random as The Warhorn's balance is not good and players can run around with heavy metal armor after a few minutes of play.



We will also reduce death losses, in the current version of the game it's a lot bugs where players can die through no fault of theirs, we don't want it to discourage people from playing.

Additionally, we are constantly focusing on bug fixing that hinder the gameplay.


Unreal Engine 5


The first step in migration is done, we finally successfully opened a project in Unreal Engine 5. There are still a lot of errors in the project but this is the first huge step for the game, next stage is to fix fatal errors, migrate plugins and finally compile the game.

There are still many challenges ahead of us but we are really determined to fully migrate the game because we see the potential of the version of the engine and work in the new engine is well optimized.




Creatures


The behavior of creatures is very problematic, they are stiff, unnatural, sometimes freezing and not fighting well, they cause many problems that affect performance. We analyze the animal code and with each update we improve them to finally create a good enemies to fight in the world of The Warhorn.

  • The position of the starting house has been changed. Next to the starting house there is a NPC Rojkos from whom you can buy building plans (helpful for new players).

It's nice to announce that we're kicking off our first developer blog!

NEW TEAM


The last year The Warhorn wasn't going well, but its time to change!
We have taken some big steps to help The Warhorn raise from its knees. One of them was enlarge the team, because we are aware that two people can't handle with such a big game. We've spent the last weeks looking for awesome people, so please welcome our new team members!

CHANGES


We are in the process of analyzing in which we want to focus on the most important elements of the game and develop them. We want to improve building, combat and exploration because we know that is the core of the game. Furthermore we will optimize the multiplayer to give you the opportunity to enjoy the game with your friends.

We are aware that the early game is lame, so in the next update we will focus on item balance and we are going to add tier 0 equipement for new players. When you die in the early stage of the game, it is really hard to get a new sword without any money, so players will be able to craft basic sword and armor in the crafting menu.



The new locations are really important to us so we want to design and create a more magnificent and magical world of The Warhorn! The arts below presents a concept of a new cave from a new chapter of the game. We are really excited about designing new game locations.

We want to keep up with the time so we face a big challenge of migrating the game to a brand new Unreal Engine 5. We know that it will take a long time to optimize and adjust the whole game to the new engine, but we are motivated to implement new technologies to The Warhorn.

  • Village walls weren't loading correctly after restarting the game.

We are glad to say that a new version of the game is available!

FIXED:



  • The shield appeared in the wrong position of the player.
  • The shield didn't disappear after the player logged out.
  • When you were full you could drink from the inventory.
  • It was possible to drink an empty bottle.
  • Instant health potions didn't work.
  • Custom map markers didn't work.
  • The Armors of the other players weren't visible in the multiplayer game.
  • Switching from magic rune to sword, caused character bending problems.
  • Friends map markers didn't work properly.
  • Ice puzzle was impossible to complete.
  • "What's inside the pyramide?" achievement was impossible to get.
  • Character menu widget had the wrong texture.
  • You could read books in the buildings if you were not a member of the village.
  • Creatures spawned and walked underwater.

  • Dropped torch cast incorrect shadows.
  • The desert island was reduced in size and moved to another location.

The Warhorn Update - Ver. 0.9.7.46


Hello everyone,

We are glad to say that a new version of the game is available!

FIXED:



  • Animals behavior.
  • Player marks on multiplayer mode were showing the wrong position.
  • Drinking from the inventory bar didn't make any sound.
  • Now it's possible to fill the empty bottles.
  • Torches caused shadow problems in dungeons.
  • Scrolling inventory bar no longer consumes potions/drinks/food.
  • Several widgets and icons were misaligned in 21:9 resolution.
  • In some cases, items information in the inventory was hidden


CHANGED:



  • The map changed - 10% of empty areas were removed, so loading times will be shorter.
  • Animation of the potion effect has been modified.
  • HP regenerates when hunger and thirsty value is above 85.
  • Modified sword trails.
  • Louder drinking and eating sounds.


ADDED:



  • Server admins command that allows you to give coins another player:
    /addcoins [nickname] 200
  • The icon shows when you crouch.

  • Information that you can't drink potion yet.
  • Outline of drink barrels.
  • If your hunger or thirst value is equal to 100, you can't eat or drink more.
  • Confirmation is required when you buy a non-stackable items from an NPC.
  • Action button "E" animation.
  • New areas with monsters and treasures near Magic Castle and Stone City.
