We confirm that There Was A Dream, due to company shutdown, will be removed from sale on 31 march 2021, but will remain available in your library forever for re-download and play. Out of respect for those who bought it in the past, when the price was higher, or those who bought it in the last few days to add it to their collection, it doesn't seem right to make any changes to the price and therefore we will not.
We ask from the bottom of our hearts, due to the threats received in recent days, let us all try to maintain a respectful attitude and not to insult or discredit our choices and the work done so far.
We are sad to inform you that Keydare Project is officially closing.
We are sad to inform you that Keydare Project is officially closing due to the economic problems that have arisen in the last period. We want to thank all the people who supported us so far in this adventure, both past and present, who helped make the last years wonderful. There Was A Dream will be removed from sale in the coming months but will remain available in your library forever for re-download and play.
UPDATE 20-03-2021
Thanks to everyone who has commented so far. Given the many questions we wanted to answer the most frequent.
Why will the game be removed from Steam? A closed VAT number cannot make sales, neither here nor in any other store. As a result, we can no longer proceed to sales once it is permanently closed.
When will the game be removed from Steam? We don't have an exact date yet, but it will be removed no later than March 31st. We cannot bear the additional costs that would be activated with another extra month of activity.
Why can't we make a closing discount? We wholeheartedly wish to make a final discount but unfortunately the next useful date on which Steam allows us to make a discount is April 1st. This is because (find the documentation online) Steam does not allow us to make close discounts. The last one ended on February 18th and we cannot launch a customized one for 6 weeks from the last date, but only participate in discounts related to events (Halloween, Christmas, Lunar Year, etc.) The activity, for the reasons described above, will cease on March 31st.
Keydare Project, how many are you? Two people
Reviews Check the playing time, the content and above all the dates. Some criticized things were fixed later. The game starts with a 7 minute cutscene. Consequently, check the playing time again and give them due weight.
There Was A Dream leaves early access
There Was A Dream leaves early access
After over 3 long years of development, There Was A Dream is leaving Early Access. Just two people started creating this world in 2017, releasing it for testing initially on Itch and following a successful fundraising campaign, here on Steam in September 2020 in Early Access.

About us and our game
Keydare Project is a team of two people who created a living and coherent world, with dubbed cutscenes and thousands of localized lines of dialogue, with a quality main story that takes 4 to 5 hours to complete (excluding secondary activities), which raises the average compared to indie games that don't rely on a publisher. We have always given our best and we have always kept the game constantly updated, since the publication on Itch, and we will continue on this path.
Too soon?
Please do not compare the game with other completed games. Compare the game with the features when we entered Early Access with the current ones. With the amount of new content added and the refinement / consolidation of current mechanics, we feel we should leave Early Access.
Compared to the publication in early access we have added:
A world that turns from dream to nightmare and vice versa in front of your eyes depending on how you behave. From bright and cheerful to gloomy and engulfed in flames.
From 4 to 5 hours of gameplay just to enjoy the main story, excluding the vast world of missions and side activities, which will lead you to explore your dream and that of another girl trapped in hers.
Two different world to explore: two unique dreams reachable by boarding the flying train.
A complete and fun quest system, where each mission offers ever-changing gameplay that include deliveries, investigations, rescues, combat, exploration and even animal control and helicopter assaults.
The side missions, scattered around the game world, have increased in quantity and variety.
Side activities like fishing and hunting are now interactive, fun, and always reward you with experience points and items.
We have increased the drivable vehicles which now range from flying cars, scooters, boats and skateboards.
Your horse, which can be trained to increase its stamina, has thousands of combinations to create a unique aesthetic appearance.
Shops have increased and you can buy and sell items, change your outfit and hair color.
The localization have improved, listening to your advice and now the game is localized in Italian, English, German, French, Spanish, Russian and Chinese.
We've stabilized the game and made it leaner, although some parts still need further optimization.
We have been constantly working on adding content, fixing issues that arose and listening to constructive feedback from the community. The changes and additions of content are so many that we invite you to read the logs of the updates released so far:
We will continue to support the game, increase its content and write an ending worthy of the world we created. We will conclude the main story to open the door to further expansions. Play There Was A Dream and get lost in its world. It is an indie game made with love.

COMING SOON
We are approaching the exit from Early Access for the game. The core mechanics, the quest system and the main story progression are now fully implemented. The game, which will be improved with each update starting from the performance up to the addition of new contents, has taken the final direction towards version 1.0
Dear Dreamers, over the years the game has gone through many versions of Unity and this brings to the developers a series of advantages on the one hand and disadvantages on the other. One of the disadvantages is the loss of fluidity caused by the constant deprecations of many optimization tools used during the development that worked effectively with one version of the engine and much less in the next. Making a game always snappy, especially when it comes to open worlds, is never easy, no matter what graphic style the game adopts.
This update includes a number of refinements regarding internal graphics settings, increasing fluidity on different types of video cards by up to 30%. Without going into too much detail, we worked on a more marked differentiation in the levels of detail, on the shadows and on the calculation of off-screen animations.
We will continue to work on this aspect continuously, to make it more and more enjoyable on a wide range of hardware configurations.
IMPORTANT
You will need to double check your graphics settings. Those who had set the level of detail to Low or Medium could easily switch to High or Ultra.
Dear Dreamers, There Was A Dream was founded on the principle of pure exploration: the world is full of activities to do and the player must discover them while wandering around the game world. This choice was not appreciated by everyone and many complain of an empty world, where feeling lost is all too easy.
In order not to distort the idea behind the game and to please all types of users, we have included a quest system. Once the tutorial is over, the direction to follow will be indicated on the map and Agent Carl at the DreamPol station will assign you various missions each with different gameplay and situations to face. Each mission is longer than the previous one and allows you to expand the knowledge of the places and activities present in the game world, solve environmental and non-environmental puzzles and even impersonate animals!
This first quest update will give you over 45 minutes of additional gameplay. Over time we will add more missions, linked to other characters and other places to discover, with always new and fun gameplay for each.
INSIDE THIS UPDATE
GAME
Quests: a series of introductory missions, with different gameplay and situations.
IMPROVEMENTS
Improved frame rates in some areas.
Added a marker on the map / minimap showing the location of the quest and an arrow on the minimap indicating the direction to follow.
CHANGES
Changed the E to F key to get on vehicles or on horseback. This avoids overlapping instructions when you are close to the vehicle and near an object to be picked up.
FIXES
The graphic settings set from the main menu are saved when you start a new game, without the need to set them again.
COMING SOON
In October, in conjunction with the Halloween holiday, we will publish Chapter 1 of There Was A Dream. Not only will new quests be added that will carry on the main story, but you will travel through a new dream.
PLOT
Inspired by a famous Italian legend, you will find yourself helping Celeste, a girl trapped in her dream and the ghost of Azzura to appease, exploring and solving puzzles in an ancient mansion.
Lastly, in thanking you for your attention, we remind you that our team is made up of 2 people. We do our best and always listen to feedback to improve a game that is not only Indie but also in Early Access. Even with your help, by reporting bugs in the appropriate sections of the forum or on Discord, we can improve it.

Thanks for support There Was A Dream, thanks for play it and thanks for your feedback.
We are 2 people in Keydare Project and we continue to put all our efforts to improve the game. Hoping for your trust and patience, here is a list of the features currently in the game and what we will improve and add over time.

Take part in activities such as crafting, fishing, hunting, and farming. Drive cars, sail with boats, ride and train your horse, and more.
What we are going to improve
Optimization: not all areas of the game are perfectly optimized. Some areas may have frame rate drops.
Localization: the game supports 7 languages and we will add more over time. We have encountered problems with Russian and Chinese characters for the advice text in the upper right corner of the interface and for help. The text was left momentarily in English. For all languages: if you find errors or phrases that you think should be corrected, please report them in the appropriate thread [link steam].
Not all areas of the game have the same level of detail. We will improve the bare areas and add new ones to make the game world richer.
Crafting: at the moment we have only inserted objects useful for exchange missions in the game. As we add new missions we will add new objects to craft.
Nightmare: we will add more missions and activities within this dimension over time, so that it will be as rich as the Dream.
Combat: We are working to add new environmental puzzles to defeat the Entity and new allied enemies of the Cataloguer to make the fighting more engaging.
Additional missions: we will add more random events, more exchange missions and implement new fun mechanics to complete them.
We will give more importance to your kitten companion. Currently taking control of it is useful to find objects and seeds hidden underground, but given its size we would like to add places that can only be explored by him and more.
Next future contents
While we are going to fix and improve the above is our intention to add more layers to the sandbox that we created and that is designed as a container. The dream and nightmare of the protagonist is the main area in which to move, explore and fight. Thanks to the great power given by the Entity, the player will find himself crossing the boundary of his dream and entering into that of other dreamers. In these worlds you will play exclusive new adventures with their own story to complete, levels, mechanics, duration and collectible items.
