Video

Explore 2 provinces!

In Ghost Recon Open Beta we have added one more province from the Closed Beta. So you will have the opportunity to explore the 2 beautiful provinces of Itacua and Montuyoc.

ITACUA

Itacua is the landing province of the full game. It will let you familiarize with Ghost Recon Wildlands’ rich environment. Finish Itacua and gained a XP boost to unlock new skills before going to Montuyoc.

Itacua is a fertile province with a temperate climate and a moderate relief. The capital, the small town of Khochi, is dedicated to the cultivation of cereals, which is also the case of the town of Buena Vida. This haven of peace was the rallying of Bolivian cocaleros and other people persecuted by the cartel. Ignored by the Santa Blanca, which was busy fighting the Unidad, these fugitives got organized. They obtained more effective weapons than hunting shotguns. They dug for ammunition caches, equipment, and supplies. They also built shelters. They trapped ambush zones along the main roads and they trained tirelessly. When the agreement was signed between the Bolivian government and the cartel, they refused to surrender. It was impossible for them that the struggle kept on in this way. The Mexican had to leave Bolivia, dead or alive. The Rebellion launched raids against the Santa Blanca’s facilities but the captured rebels are handed over to La Yuri and El Polito, who are responsible for torturing the captives to extract information on the leaders of the Rebellion.

Montuyoc

This province is located in the Altiplano region. Living conditions there are tough. Several roads cross the province and allow for easy movement. The activity of the inhabitants focuses on llama breeding and barley cultures, one of the few grains able to grow at this altitude. Sueño built a vast arsenal, protected by a large base, which contains the most modern small and heavy weapons, guns, tanks, mortars, and anti-aircraft missiles. This arsenal is available to the best sicarios that come to the deserted moors of Montuyoc for training. Santa Blanca’s goal at Montuyoc is to train a small elite army capable of standing up to the best armies in South America.

Montuyoc is located in the highlands and has impressive vistas where you can watch red lakes from above. But it’s also the training center of the Santa Blanca Cartel, so expect some fierce fights there !

Before digging into content, the dev team would like to invite you to join the second official Ghost Recon Wildlands livestream on February 22nd at 6pm CET (Paris time)! Intel: Co-op 101

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands is the first military shooter set in a massive and responsive open world, entirely playable in 4 player co-op or solo. The vision of the development team from the beginning has been to have a completely seamless co-op experience. We were able to meet up with Dominique Leblanc, Campaign Content Director, who answered some of the questions from the community about how exactly the co-op will work in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. Today we are sharing this information with you.

Co-op from the Very Beginning

One of the first decisions made by the development team was to ensure that co-op would be available from the very start of the game. In Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, you will not have to wait if you want to play with your friends. You will be able to join up from the very beginning.

Also, thanks to the hot join system, you can begin in solo, if you so choose, and your friends can come into your game seamlessly at any time. However, if you prefer to play by yourself, you are able to turn off co-op and have AI Ghosts part of your squad. Your teammates are also able to leave at any time without you having to return to a menu or even leaving the game world. Your gameplay experience will never be interrupted by the co-op function.

What about Story Progression?

Even if you are not at the same point in the game as the friend you join, you will still progress as you play with them. Whatever progression you make with your friends will be saved in your own progression. Instead of only helping your friends’ progression when you join their game, you will also be working towards your own progression. Moreover, if you are behind your friends, you will still be able to complete missions that they may have already completed.

What If My Friend Is Ahead of Me in Story Progression?

If you join a friend who has unlocked a mini boss’s entire narrative arc, but you haven’t, it will be possible for your friend to share the related missions with you in order to complete it together. If you join while your friend is in the middle of the mission, you will “assist” him/her to complete the mission. The following mission will be unlocked for you as well, thanks to the “unlock sharing” feature.

Can I Replay Missions?

Yes! You will be able to replay a mission by going into the quest log and equipping the mission you want to replay. A notification will explain that you are about to replay a mission, and that it will respawn the mission in your game world. You can only replay one mission at a time, and you can replay missions in co-op as well as single player.

How Does Matchmaking Work?

You can choose public matchmaking or private matchmaking. If you choose public and find players that you really enjoy playing with, you can set them as a favorite in order to find them easier to play with them again, add them as a friend, or look at them on the Ghost Recon Network. You can go ahead and jump right into your game, and players will be able to jump into your world seamlessly.

What About When My Friends Leave My World?

As soon as co-op ends, and your friends leave, the 3 AI Ghosts will return. The AI teammates will reappear when all your friends are gone, meaning that you can play from 2 to 4 friends without AI. The host migration is seamless so you don’t have to worry about your game experience being interrupted just because your friends need to leave.

Do My Friends And I Have to Stay Together?

No. There is no invisible tether between the Ghosts. You and your friends can travel as far away from each other as needed in order to find the best and most tactical way to take out the Santa Blanca Cartel. However, it can be difficult to take on the dangers of the Wildlands alone…If the worst happens, and you fall to an enemy’s fire, then you’ll want to be near your teammates so they can revive you instead of needing to redeploy.

For mission completion, as long as you and your friends all have the same mission equipped, you will all get credit if the mission is completed. This is even in the case that you are all on opposite sides of the map. If the mission is not equipped but you participate to make the mission progress or if you’re close enough to another player who did, the mission completion will be completed for you as well.

Freedom of Choice

Even in co-op, there is no specific way to approach a mission. Freedom of choice is important in Ghost Recon Wildlands. A player can choose to change how they decide to take on an obstacle.

To aid in communications between you and your teammates you will have VOIP, user interface elements, and a tacmap at your disposal, to allow you for instance to place beacons on the map. You will also be able to use the same command wheel used to command your AI teammates in order to better plan with your co-op teammates. Additionally, you will be able to use the syncshot in co-op as well as in single player. PC players will also have an added benefit of a text based chat to further aid in communications.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands will be available on March 7, 2017, for PlayStation®4 system, Xbox One, and PC.

Introducing Ghost Recon Network and Ghost Recon HQ

You will be able to visit Bolivia soon enough, Ghost, so you better be prepared for the challenge. While the game can be completed in single-player mode with the help of your AI teammates, you can also play with up to 4 players in co-op. In order to provide you with the smoothest experience possible, we are launching a new free service that will let you find task force members with similar playstyles and experience.

GHOST RECON NETWORK, THE PLACE TO EXPAND YOUR GAME EXPERIENCE

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands gives you total freedom of choice in the way you face missions. From stealthy incursions to a full-frontal assault, the game supports plenty of different playstyles and provides you with the tools to confront the Santa Blanca cartel the way you want. The best way to achieve a great team synergy is playing with friends, so today we would like to introduce the Ghost Recon Network, an online social space that will let you find players who share similar interests and playstyles, on top of being able to communicate and coordinate with your already existing friends.

Ghost Recon Network is a free service that will be launched alongside the Ghost Recon Wildlands Closed Beta preload on February 1st and will remain active from then on. It can be checked on your browser, your tablet, or your phone. Once you log in you will be able to check your game stats and achievements, access profiles of other Ghost Recon players, and build your own task force on the go. Looking for a silent sniper or an aggressive automatic rifleman to help you with a mission? Ghost Recon Network will give you the tools to build the perfect team you have in mind.

The only thing you need to do to start enjoying all the advantages of Ghost Recon Network is to use your Ubisoft Club account to log in (remember to link your PSN or Xbox Live account to your profile if you are playing on consoles). The site will automatically create your Ghost Profile including dozens of detailed stats assessing your in-game performance from long-range accuracy, to weapons of choice. However, if you want to access the service during the Closed Beta period, remember you will need to be among the selected players to play the test.#

The public side of your profile will show the world what kind of player you are. Are you born to be a task force leader? Are you aggressive or do you prefer to be more tactical? Depending on your favorite playstyle, other players will describe you using the available tags and you will be able to share them in your profile page. Complete your profile, introduce yourself to the community and earn some exclusive badges by doing it.

Your profile will also include useful information like your preferred language, your time zone, and even the days you usually connect to play. This information will let you find the right people to build an efficient Task Force adapted to your gaming habits. Just add your favorite players to your friend list and you will always be in good company when visiting the wildlands of Bolivia.

Once your personal profile is completed, the next step is creating a task force or joining an existing one. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands offers an immersive four-player co-op experience from the very beginning to the end, and task forces are born to take advantage of this feature. You can build yours from scratch, selecting a logo and a picture from a wide variety of options, a tag, a country, and even a message of the day. Recruit up to 100 more players and make them your brothers or sisters in arms, defeating the Santa Blanca cartel together and improving your stats in the process.

Of course, you can also join an existing task force that shares the same motivation as you. If you are a collector who likes gathering all resources and finishing all secondary missions, the powerful search function will let you find players with the same interests. Same goes for other interests like trophies and achievement hunting, tactical gameplay, or main mission completion. If you are looking for a great experience with players you can rely on, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Network is the place you need to go.

The Ghost Recon Network also offers a Calendar option so you can plan your next cooperative sessions easily. You will also be able to create events and save the ones you are interested in. The calendar function will additionally keep you updated about upcoming milestones related to the Ghost Recon universe, such as news and announcements.

GHOST RECON HQ, FIGHT FOR BOLIVIA EVERYWHERE YOU GO

The Ghost Recon Wildlands HQ is a free smartphone and tablet application for Android and iOS designed to enhance and complement your game experience. It will be available to download in your usual app store and you can use it as a second screen and social hub. You will also be able to play a mini-game called Guerrilla which will give you access to extra resources for your Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands characters. Download it for free and make a difference behind enemy lines!

Once installed, the News and Community section of the app will keep you updated on all the information you need to know, giving you direct access to events, news and user created content. You will also have a chat function to talk to your taskforce members and friends.

The Ghost Satellite View will provide you with real-time intelligence data on the battlefield while playing Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. After a quick synchronization with the main game, you will have access to a complete world map of Bolivia where you can check resources and intel locations, points of interest, a road map, and other key elements. Once you are about to enter the fray, use the tactical map to plan your assaults and ensure your Ghosts are placed in the best strategic spot.

In the Guerrilla mode, you will lead the rebels in their struggle against the Santa Blanca cartel. Recruit members for the resistance and send them in dangerous missions all around Bolivia so they can level up and face greater challenges, discovering their personal stories in the meantime. You will also have to check their stats to know about their strengths and weaknesses, and you will be able to equip them with useful items found scattered all around the map. Be careful when you make a decision though, because the rebels can end up wounded if they fail their mission. Play this prequel to the main game and discover how Karen Bowman prepared the arrival of the Ghosts.

Lastly, the CIA files will provide you with background information about the main characters and the situation in Bolivia before the arrival of the Ghosts. You will be able to know more about the country, the Santa Blanca cartel organization, the corrupt government forces, and the Ghosts themselves.

Also remember: you can still download and enjoy the Ghost Recon HQ app even if you don’t have access to the main game during the Closed Beta. You will be able to read the news and intel, play the Guerrilla missions, and gather resources for the future. Prepare yourself, Ghost, and once the moment arrives, the Santa Blanca cartel won’t stand a chance against your team.

--

The Ghost Recon Network and Ghost Recon HQ are available for free during the Closed Beta period, and all your progress and achievements will be kept with your profile when the final game launches. Fight, Learn, Evolve: Character evolution

During the events of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, the Ghosts arrive in Bolivia undercover, without official support from the US government. In the eyes of the world, they do not exist. However, the Ghosts are highly trained in covert ops, capable of operating in extremely hostile environments. They analyze their surroundings and act in concert looting weapons, mods, resources, and intel to become a lethal army of four.

According to Dominic Butler, our lead game designer, “The Ghosts are masters of their environments, and the skill system present in the game reflects that. You make your own Ghost from scratch and you have all the gameplay options available.”

As highly trained professionals, the Ghosts are capable of facing the most dangerous threats with efficiency, but some of the most protected enemy camps and fortresses will be a great challenge without some serious firepower and tech to back them up. The Santa Blanca Cartel and the Unidad forces protect their most vital points with impressive warfare tools such as anti-aircraft missiles, drone jammers, heavily armored guards, mini-gun outposts, and concrete walls, so facing them with no preparation wouldn’t be wise. To achieve the means needed to level the field, the skill system in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands is oriented to give players additional tools and abilities to make your Ghost even more lethal in combat.

Of course, as in real life, finding valuable goods won’t be as easy as stepping over them. Additional weapon attachments are often located inside enemy camps under heavy surveillance, and the only way to find their exact location is interrogating cartel members or infiltrating the area to investigate. Also, picking up weapons from fallen enemies will be useful in a desperate moment, but if you really want to build and customize an impressive arsenal, you will have to raid some of the most dangerous places of Bolivia, such as the region of Espiritu Santo. That’s where you will find the best weapons and attachments.

In addition to the weapon upgrades, the Ghosts will have more than 40 skills available for unlocking, so choose the ones you enjoy the most. Every enemy marking, every kill and every mission completed will reward you with valuable experience for your Ghost, unlocking advanced options in the upgrade menu. But rewards don’t come out from thin air – you will need to acquire four kinds of resources such as food, gasoline, medication, and communication tools to build the tech. Players will have to find them around the map and invest in advanced upgrades. Resources are normally available around areas of interest, enemy camps, and towns, so exploring the map of Bolivia always has a reward. However, if you want a huge payday, you can also set up an ambush for one of Santa Blanca’s convoys, but be prepared for a tough fight against the guards protecting the vehicles.

There are plenty of skills that can adapt to your playstyle. For example, if you want some serious firepower to blow up an enemy outpost, the grenade launcher attachment for assault rifles would be the upgrade you need. If you prefer using the helicopter to jump from high altitude and silently drop behind enemy lines, investing in the parachute would be the perfect move. If you also enjoy creating mayhem from afar to distract the enemies, add the explosive upgrade to your drone.

The character evolution also affects the relationship of the Ghosts with the Kataris 26 rebels. Complete particular activities for them and you will gain their trust, increasing their support options and the frequency you can call on them for backup. The rebels will greatly expand your tactical options in combat. Among other things, they can act as guns for hire for the toughest firefights, can create distractions, drop vehicles, and even call for mortar strikes. It would be wise to create allies of them from time to time.

In the end, the decisions are up to you. Keep completing missions and exploring the map as you evolve and make your team unstoppable. The Santa Blanca Cartel will soon learn to fear the Ghosts.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands will be available on March 7, 2017, for PlayStation®4 system, Xbox One, and PC.

Locate and Extract the Infamous La Santera: Mission Walkthrough

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands gives you total freedom of choice to determine how you want to face missions, objectives, and world exploration. To best show this flexible approach, this walkthrough demonstrates a campaign mission played from beginning to end. From the initial intelligence gathering to completing the final objective, this single player walkthrough, narrated by our lead game designer, Dominic Butler, will show you the many approaches and tools you can use to locate and extract a high-value target.

The mission is to extract La Santera, an influential spiritual leader of the Santa Blanca cartel, and get one step closer to ending the cartel’s terror over Bolivia. La Santera is a self-proclaimed priestess of the Santa Muerte, the sinister deity of death, and is one of the cartel’s most infamous and feared members. Rumors claim that she performed human sacrifices to appease the wrath of her goddess. She has become a primary target due to her position under the command of El Cardenal, the cartel’s head of Influence and personal spiritual advisor to the cartel’s leader, El Sueño. It seems like the latest intel gathered by the Ghosts gave them the exact location of La Santera, but extracting her won’t be an easy job.

Watch the video and discover all the tools and resources you will have at your disposal during missions: AI teammate commands, gunsmith modifications, sync shots, gadget upgrades, noise distractions, vehicle extractions. You also have total freedom to play the playstyle of choice whether it’s stealth attacks, carefully strategized tactics or guns blazing. So get ready, Ghost.

La Santera, The Saint Maker

Maria del Rocio Mendez, better known as La Santera, is a key piece of the Santa Blanca Cartel’s influence operation.

Growing up Catholic in Mexico, she was obsessed with the martyrs of Roman times. She convinced herself that it was the Church’s responsibility to cleanse the world of heretics.

When she was in her teens, she learned about Santa Muerte and became immediately fascinated by the belief that followers must repay Santa Muerte for their good luck or face punishments. Maria found herself drawn to the fact that many of Santa Muerte’s worshippers follow her in fear.

El Cardenal, head of religion and leader of Santa Blanca’s influence arm, found Maria leading her own Santa Muerte sanctuary. Maria had grown a sizable following. El Cardenal admired the way she used fear to manipulate her followers, and introduced her to cartel head, El Sueño. El Sueño enlisted her to share the message of Santa Muerte throughout Bolivia, and to use the fear she instills in order to keep the civilians in line with Santa Blanca Cartel’s interests.

Sam Strachman, our narrative director, had this to say about La Santera:

"If El Cardenal is the light, generous side of Santa Muerte, then La Santera is the dark, hedonism. She’s taken this Saint and twisted her into something sinister for Santa Blanca. She’s managed to convince her followers that if they want a spot in the afterlife, they must kill the cartel’s rivals. Through La Santera, the Santa Blanca Cartel manipulates Bolivian citizens’ fear and religion to strengthen their influence. She is an important, yet dark, source of power for the cartel’s operations."

INTEL: Karen Bowman Dossier

Not much is known about Karen Bowman from her life before her operations in Bolivia. The name “Karen Bowman” itself is an unofficial cover name. The Ghosts themselves don’t know anything about her previous life, or her real name.

Bowman has been undercover as an employee of a fake non-profit organization in Bolivia for the past seven years. Her real job is managing an operation to destabilize the Santa Blanca Cartel. Her duties include meeting with informants and assets, along with intelligence work related to covert US military efforts in the provinces.

Karen Bowman is highly intelligent, and is dedicated to learning as much about drug trafficking organizations as possible. She sometimes takes her obsession with learning everything she can about her enemies to an extreme.

Sam Strachman, our narrative director, had this to say about Bowman:

What I love about Bowman is that she genuinely loves Bolivia. She loves the culture, the people, the history, the food, even the music. But she is also a true patriot. So over and over again, she finds herself torn in these two directions, between these two countries.”

Even though Bowman conducts herself in a very professional manner, she is tough and not above swearing like a sailor if she thinks it will help get her point across. Her drives are her work and getting missions accomplished. Karen Bowman is not one to discuss her personal life, and her non-work relationships tend to be intense, but few.

The Sounds of the Wildlands

The beautiful landscapes of Bolivia are a definite feast for the eyes but the sounds of Bolivia are just as rich and captivating. Our audio director, Ghislain Soufflet, traveled with a recording team to Bolivia, in order to capture the symphonic beauty of the natural landscape. We also enlisted the talents of Alain Johannes to help capture the essence of the Wildlands through music. Together, Ghislain Soufflet, Manu Bachet, the Ghost Recon audio team and Alain Johannes have truly created a stunning audio experience.

Ambient Sounds of Bolivia

Ghislain and his team began by traveling to every ecosystem Bolivia had to offer to record the ambient sounds around them. They visited the jungle, the salt flats, the mountains, and the yungas. The group even split up at certain points, in order to record as much of the environment as possible.

However, recording the sounds and adding them into the game does not make the sounds of Ghost Recon® Wildlands an authentic reflection of the beautiful setting. All of the different environmental elements were taken into account. No single sound is static, but all the sounds are as dynamically breathing as the world around you.

Along with the environmental sounds, the team made sure the civilian music heard in game is as authentic as possible. The people of Bolivia are an incredibly musical people and, in their travels, the team found the whole cities filled with a rich culture of music. For example, the team stumbled across and was able to record Bolivia’s music as played by native musicians. The music heard in-game traditionally comes from Peru and Bolivia, using the same types of instruments that have played for generations.

Authentic Gun Sounds

We worked closely with Red Storm Entertainment and firearm manufacturers to ensure the authenticity of all weapon sounds in the game. Our sounds were taken from both close and distant ranges, in order to make certain each gun sound is authentic, no matter how far away your character is from the action.

The team also created a new dynamic echo technology—in order to provide the feeling of really being in Bolivia. Objects in the world are configured as sound reflectors in order to make the environment react as realistically as possible, even from an auditory experience. The final result is different sounds of gunfire depending on whether you’re in a canyon, on the salt flats, or deep within the jungle. Each of these areas has its own unique echo.

Soundtrack of the Wildlands

The score for a video game is generally written before it is recorded. However, Ghislain, Manu and Alain had their own vision for Ghost Recon® Wildlands. They wanted the recording experience to be as unpredictable and wild as the world itself—and it paid off in spades. Ghislain brought a recording team to composer Alain Johannes’ home in L.A., along with some video footage of the game. For an entire week, Alain and his fellow recording musicians (Joey Castillo, Nick Oliveri and Norm Block) watched the footage and improvised the soundtrack, according to how the footage made them feel.

The emotional experience of that week may have been intense and challenging, but they put their trust in each other. As they went about recording, it was obvious that Alain was indeed the right person for the job. Each of the artists expressed how lucky they felt to be involved in such a truly pioneering experience.

In order to keep the music as authentic to the area as possible, many instruments local to the area were used. One example of a native instrument Alain used is the charango. Alain owns his own charango made from a cigar box and steel strings—just one item in a plethora of instruments he has to choose from, and he can play them all. He wanted the life and texture of the audio to match the beautiful environments he saw in the game.

In the end, the soundtrack they were able to record truly captures the emotional experience of the Wildlands.
