Dev Log for June 24th, 2025
[p]Hey everyone, and welcome to the Tower Unite dev log for June 24th, 2025.[/p][p]Since the last dev log, we’ve had a dev stream, released the public beta and full release of Workshop Condos, and have continued work on our various projects.[/p][p][/p][p]So, let’s dive in:[/p][p][/p]
June 13th Dev Stream
[p]On Friday the 13th, we had an extremely unspooky dev stream, going into detail about the Workshop Rental Store, Pets Progress, and Dedicated Condos. There was Q&A throughout each section, as well as a dedicated Q&A at the end of the stream![/p][p][/p][p]If you’d like to check that out, here is the VOD:[/p][p][dynamiclink href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JlJVttjPHQ"][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Ongoing Condo Contest
[p][/p][p]Just a reminder, there is an ongoing Condo Contest at the moment. The theme is Restaurants & Stores, and your submission can be a build from ANY TIME![/p][p]The submission period ends on July 6th, 2025 at 11:59 PM CT.[/p][p]There are already a lot of awesome entries, so be sure to check those out, and join the contest if you want to share your Condo with the community![/p][p][/p]
Workshop Rental Store is Now Open
[p]The major project going on the past few weeks has been the Workshop Rental Store. We released the beta test, and the full update is out to everyone now! We appreciate feedback people gave during the beta testing and release, and we’re working on getting a hot-fix out to you all to handle those issues that we weren’t able to catch during the beta![/p][p][/p]
Condo Pets
[p]Development on Condo Pets has completed for its first release. If you want a better look at what’s been going on with Condo Pets, check out this section of the Dev Stream (around 49/50 minutes in).[/p][p]We also have completed the two new Plaza areas: Cat Café and Dog Park![/p][p]We plan to have the Condo Pet and Café open soon after the Dedicated Condo update![/p][p][/p]
Dedicated Condos
[p]We’ve made HUGE progress on Dedicated Condos!![/p][p][/p][p]We finished the item spawn system, allowing players who have the spawn permission the ability to spawn their own local inventory items in the Dedicated Condo.[/p][p][/p][p]We also finished the save system for Dedicated Condos, along with a backup system. Any player with the save permission can also manually save the Dedicated Condo within the server.[/p][p][/p][p]We now have a full logging system that logs chat messages, join/leave messages, and other important interactions.[/p][p][/p][p]To help setup your own moderation team, we added a new “Condo Mod” tag permission setting that adds the “Condo Mod” tag next to a player’s name so players know who is important in your Dedicated Condo. This tag is separate from all the other permissions, allowing you to have complete control over what a Condo Mod has control over.[/p][p][/p][p]On top of that, the Windows Launcher has been completed, along with the guide for Dedicated Condos.[/p][p][/p][p]We’re working on additional features for Dedicated Condos to make it easier to moderate them, and we hope to add a remote console system.[/p][p][/p]
General Fixes
[p]Below are a bunch of general fixes for specific parts of the game! Other fixes we’ve been working on that weren’t included below are that you can now skip dialogue mid-sentence again and that we fixed key binding not working with scroll wheel! There were also some general fixes for controller support, Zombie Massacre, and Virus.[/p][p][/p]
Optimization Work
[p]For the upcoming and recently released updates, optimization work has continued! A significant amount of shader optimization was done to improve both performance and load times by reducing the amount of shader memory load.[/p][p]We also worked on a permanent object pool in “garbage collection” to reduce the amount of hitches experienced in content-heavy areas like Plaza and Condos. This stops the engine from doing unnecessary garbage collection on assets that will soon be loaded back in anyway.[/p][p][/p]
SDNL Fixes
[p]For SDNL, we’ve made some improvements to weapons, such as various improvements to the Sword & Shield item, fixes to the Egon Cannon’s sounds, and the ability to recharge thrown Chainsaws. We also fixed an issue with sliding that caused some players to get stuck during sliding.[/p][p][/p]
Plaza Fixes
[p]We’ve made various fixes to issues in the Plaza! These include several optimizations such as reducing streaming hitches in stores area, reduced data on static meshes throughout the Plaza by removing adjacency buffers that were unneeded and fixes to textures, materials, lighting, and collision. We also cleaned up the lighting on the Plaza rooftop bar.[/p][p]These Plaza optimizations have been pushed out as of the 1.0.1.0 update, and we’re continuing to work on further optimizations.[/p][p][/p]
Condo Fixes / Upcoming New Items
[p]Several fixes were also made in the Condos. You can now set the max players that can enter your Condo while you are hosting your Condo, in case you want to increase the player count or decrease it without having to re-host the Condo.[/p][p]We also fixed scoreboard input issues and being able to update your Condo title with special symbols.[/p][p]For SDK users, we’ve fixed the flag scale issues with the hole tool for Minigolf. We’re also fixing several reported Condo IO bugs.[/p][p][/p][p][TAG-140][/p][p][/p][p]In other Condo news, we have some new upcoming Condo items for you all as well! These include the Server Rack, Coffee Machine, Espresso Machine, Paneled Glass Double Door, Paneled Glass Door, Wooden Lounger, and Bathroom Vanity Sink.[/p][p][/p]
Controller / Steam Deck Progress
[p]With this update, and the hot fix, we’ve been fixing several issues with controller support, and we’ve added a Steam Deck profile for those who game on the Steam Deck. We’re working towards getting Steam Deck verification very soon![/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Arcade Phase 3
[p][/p][p][/p][p]Work has begun on new Arcade games for Arcade: Phase 3! We have some development images of the early stages of three new games, Mac has gotten Air Hockey working right again, and work continues on the 2D Games! We’re very excited to get to start working on Arcade development again, and we can’t wait to get these games out to you all.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Other In-Development Projects
[p]We’ve been taking in feedback from players and we’re working on a few other special features that don’t quite fit in other sections.[/p]
[p]We’re working on adding Workshop Map, Mutators, and Game Types to the server browser, so you can see which server is playing a specific Gametype.[/p]
[p]Progress on Condo Currency has been made, which is a feature that Condo owners can use to add their own fake currencies to their Condos. These per-player currencies can also be used to track individual progress for adventure maps as well![/p]
[p][/p]
That’s a Wrap!
[p]That’s going to do it for this week’s dev log! Be sure to keep an eye out for the next one!

Public Beta: Workshop Condo Rental Store
[p]The beta branch to test our next update is now available! This beta primarily includes the Workshop Rental Store with other changes and improvements to the game. Behind the scenes, we've been working on Dedicated Condos as well, which we hope include in part two of this beta.[/p][p][/p][p]If you're not familiar with our new Public Betas, here's a quick run down of common questions on how public betas work:[/p][p][/p]
What Are Public Betas?
[p]Public betas are short lived beta tests of an upcoming update to Tower Unite. They are builds of the game that include new features or bug fixes that we need to test before shipping it out to everyone in the game.[/p][p][/p]
Why Public Betas?
[p]Public betas come out just before an update. We’re using these public betas to iron out any immediate bugs or issues before making an update to the game.[/p][p]With these public betas, you can help us test the game and provide feedback for new features before they fully release.[/p][p][/p]
How To Participate
[p]To opt into the public beta, you’ll need to head to your Steam Library.[/p][p]Right click on Tower Unite > Properties > Betas.[/p][p]From there click on the Beta Participation drop down and select Public Beta.[/p][p][/p][p]Note: When opting into a public beta, you will have to re-patch your game each time you switch between beta and non-beta. It does not redownload the entire game, but it does have to patch in any changes to the beta, which can take a bit of time.[/p][p][/p]
Joining Plaza Beta Servers
[p]While in the beta branch, you’ll see new buttons in the Plaza server list for Plaza beta servers. These will be servers exclusively for the beta itself.[/p][p][/p]
Providing Feedback On Betas
[p]We have a Discord channel (#betas-chat) in the Game Developments section of our official Discord: https://discord.gg/pixeltail[/p][p][/p][p]This is the place to share your feedback on the beta with our developers or talk with other players about the beta. [/p][p][/p][p]To report bugs about the public beta, please use these sub-forums:[/p][p]https://forums.pixeltailgames.com/c/bug-report/public-beta-bug-report/109[/p][p][/p]
[p]New to the Condo Hub, the Tower Condo Rental store is now open! This is a place where you can browse Workshop maps and Condos that TU players have made.[/p][p] If you’re on this beta branch, you’ll get access to the Tower Condo Rentals store. Here, you’ll be able to test out warping to Workshop maps from the Condo hub, including joining with a group.[/p][p][/p][p]You just need to grab a map from the shelf and throw it at the TV to travel yourself and others to the map.[/p][p][/p][p]We hope this new rental store will be a more immersive and fun way to explore all the Workshop maps that have been made.[/p][p][TAG-104][TAG-106][TAG-108][/p][p]We are also using this public beta to stress test changes to our backend in preparation for Dedicated Condos.[/p][p]Below, we have a list of significant changes included in this beta branch![/p][p][/p]

Dev Log for May 27th, 2025
Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s Tower Unite Dev Log!
Shortly after our last dev log, we finished up work on and released the controller support update as well as the update to the TU soundtrack! Since then we’ve been making progress on the next major update, the Workshop Rental Store, as well as various fixes for UI, Condos, and further Controller Support. There has also been progress on upcoming updates, such as Community Condos!
Workshop Rental Store / Beta
We’ve finished up work on the Workshop Rental Store and are ready to beta test it with you all this week!
Work was completed on traveling to Condos/Maps, the store was expanded with more shelves, we fixed issues where griefing could occur, made changes so that people can’t change what location you go to at the last second, added some sound effects, and added notifications when players are about to group up to travel.
The public beta will likely go up this week to test this out.
Optimization
Work has been ongoing with optimization to the Plaza. We’ve been reducing texture usage, adding more HLODs, optimizing models, and material usage.
Community Condos
Great progress continues to be made on Community Condos!
This week we’ve successfully concluded backend work for Community Condos and have been testing connecting dedicated Condos to our Condo server list. Next up is integrating the changes with the main game, which we plan to do for the Condo Rental Store beta. We plan to have more information about how to host a dedicated Condo during the public beta!
Cooking
Progress is being made on the recipes for cooking! We currently have 92 recipes planned out and plenty more to come. Work was done last week compiling the list of ingredients and outcomes, so now its just a matter of putting more of them together as recipes!
Plenty of the recipes involve fish you can find in the Plaza, and you’ll be able to make lots of different dishes just by using different preparation tools, like blending, grilling, or freezing!
Condo & New Items
Some major fixes were done in Condos, such as the ability to favorite items again. The rental shelves items also got some polish!
We’ve finished new items for the next update which include Cat Café items that will be ready when the Cat Café / Pets update comes out.
Work is also being done on double wide (and thin) variants for the Canvas Elbow and Tube. The tube has been reworked to use two variable sliders instead of one so it’s easier to select which size and division you want.
Miscellaneous Bug Fixes
There’ve also been quite a few fixes to notable bugs and some other changes. These include friends list fixes, a change where the votemap timer now pauses in singleplayer/private matches, further controller support, and bug fixes related to clicking on badges.
Please report bugs & submit suggestions on our forums. We're active everyday & here to help. For bug reports: Bug Reports For suggestions: Submit a Suggestion

Controller Support Update (1.0.0.1)
Welcome to our first update post 1.0!
Controller Support Update!
In this update, 1.0.0.1, we have made major changes to the game to support controllers, along with adding controller icons that support multiple types of controllers. We currently support Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo, and Steam Deck controller icon sets.
ALL Game Worlds now have full controller support! Minigolf, Accelerate, Ball Race, Zombie Massacre, Virus, Little Crusaders, and SDNL now have full controller support, along with force feedback! Plaza activities such as Casino, Arcade, Bowling, Trivia, and Billiards all have controller support as well now!

In Ball Race, bumpers will rumble like a bumper should, in Minigolf you'll feel the slight taps of the railings and the HIO rocket, and in Little Crusaders you will feel the Dragon's roar!
We added controller support to the menus, so you can enter and play game worlds, browse workshop maps, enter your condo or other condos, customize yourself, buy items, or check your collection book progress all with your controller.
This was a huge undertaking and project! We're still working on controller support for the hot bar/player emotes. We are also working on full compatibility with the Steam Deck and will have more news on that soon!

Dev Log for May 12th, 2025
Hello everyone! Welcome to the Tower Unite Dev Log for this week, which will have a new format!
Current Roadmap
If you missed it, here is our Post 1.0 Roadmap featuring the major updates to come. Not every update is listed in this graphic, but you can see more detailed development progress on our Trello or Discord!
What’s New?
Tower Unite Version 1.0 was released on April 19th, 2025! We are so appreciative for the response from you all! And thank you for any bug reports, reviews, feedback, and support!
Since the release, we’ve been making progress on the roadmap updates slated for post-1.0. Progress is being made on the various roadmap projects all at once.
Next Update: Update 1.0.0.1
This next update will be a brief interlude before the Workshop Rental Store to fix some bugs, improve controller support, and prepare for future beta tests.
Controller Support
With the release of 1.0, controller support is a feature near and dear to our hearts. This next update includes great improvements for controller support in Plaza and Game Worlds to the benefit of controller and Steam Deck users alike!
Here is an overview of the controller support features that will be added:
Game World Controller Support (ALL GAME WORLDS)
Menu Controller Support (Game World Select, Workshop Browser, Character Customization, Collection Book)
Force Feedback (Rumble)
Controller Icons
Scoreboard Controller Support
Settings Controller Support
Plaza Map Controller Support
Force Feedback (Rumble)
Controller force feedback will be improved across the game, adding rumble to various aspects of gameplay for all the Game Worlds. In Ball Race, bumpers will rumble like a bumper should, in Minigolf you’ll feel the slight taps of the railings and the HIO rocket, and in Little Crusaders you will feel the Dragon’s roar!
Controller Icons
With this update, we’ll also be adding controller icons that support multiple types of controllers. It will support Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo, and Steam Deck controller icon sets.
Menu Controller Support
We’re also adding controller support to the majority of the menus, so you can enter and play game worlds, browse workshop maps, enter your Condo or other Condos, customize yourself, or check your collection book progress all with your controller.
This has been a huge undertaking and project! We’re still working on controller support, so some of the various aspects of the game such as the hot bar are still lacking full controller support. Support for those are still being developed, as they require more work than other parts of the game.
We are also working towards full compatibility with the Steam Deck and will have more news on that soon!
We will continue to add more controller support to the game in each upcoming update!
Public Betas
About a week and a half ago, we started our first public beta as a test run to help get feedback on the 1.0.0.1 update. The beta testing went very well and we’ll continue to use public betas going forward.
We’ll have more formal announcements that these are going on in the future now that we’ve done this initial try!
To learn how to participate in the public betas, and to give feedback before an update goes live, check out: Tower Unite Public Beta Branches!
Workshop Condo Rental Store
The Workshop Rental Store grand opening is just around the corner! This will be our next Major update!
A new expansion to the Condo Hub, the Workshop Rental Store displays both popular and recently released Workshop maps made by the community, allowing players to quickly grab them off the shelves and transport players to the map for easy browsing.
We are currently putting the final touches and will provide an open beta, so stay tuned and feel free to join in our open beta when announced.
Pets!
We’ve also been working on the new Condo pet system! We’ve made great progress on the pets, as they now have traits such as love and energy, and commands such as sit, follow, eating/drinking, and sleeping.
We’ll have more information on the big pet update that comes out after the Rental Store update!
Community Condos
Community Condos are dedicated user-hosted Condos. Since the 1.0 release, we’ve made great progress on the backend changes needed for the server browser required for Community Condos in the game. Work will continue to be done on this feature.
Surprise Planet Panic Updates?
If you follow our Trello, you may have noticed work has resumed on a Game World, Planet Panic! Planet Panic was one of our earliest game worlds, but we had complaints about the gameplay design and the vehicle networking. The game simply wasn’t up to our standards. Since then, Planet Panic has been in development hell, constantly getting pushed aside due to lack of interest both by our community polls and developers. But all hope is not lost…
We’ve recently discussed some new exciting designs for the gameplay, got some inspiration, and now have developed fully working UFOs with network prediction! With the new gameplay, we hope to add more fun and challenge to the original concept while keeping the cute style.
Progress is also being made on reworking some of the old maps as well.
That’s a Wrap!
That’s going to do it for this week’s dev log! Be sure to keep an eye out for the next one. We’ll be changing from our weekly schedule to a more biweekly announcement with more information than our old dev logs.

Leaving Early Access - Tower Unite Version 1.0
Alright everyone, its time! We’ve been preparing for this moment for years, and with this update we’re sealing the deal:
Tower Unite is out of Early Access!!!
The dream of Tower has been part of some of our team’s lives for almost 20 years now, starting as our lead developer Mac’s highschool daydream in 2006. Now, it’s been 9 years with Tower Unite!
Time really does fly, doesn’t it?
Inspired by our love of theme parks, arcades, resorts, and a metric ton of love for gaming, we’ve been creating a loving place that has endless entertainment and fun, and we’re so happy to give it a big welcome in its 1.0 state!
Our wish was to make a jam-packed game that offers you the world and delivers it as best as it can – a place where friends can hop on and chill, play all sorts of games, and express yourselves in your own digital home.
We have been so humbled by the support we’ve been given. Early access has been an absolute gift, and you all gave us the opportunity to make Tower with our small team and work on the game at our own pace, adding the features we all wanted. It’s been a dream come true. The support from our committed community has been overwhelming, and we are so proud of how much Tower has grown.
With all of the work we’ve done on the game over the years, we feel Tower is ready and doesn’t belong in Early Access any longer.
This does not mean we are done!
Tower development is NOT over. We have games to make, promises we are determined to keep, and we will never stop coming up with new games and ideas for Tower Unite! And, of course, we want to do our best to deliver polish and improvements. This game is our passion.
So, while we’re saying goodbye to Early Access, we want to give you all some info about how future updates will work and are happy to announce our first roadmap for post 1.0!
How Will Updates Work Post 1.0?
If you’ve been following Tower’s journey, you’ve been beta testing the game with us with every update and providing feedback. Since we are leaving early access, we’ll be releasing future major updates on a public beta branch before they get launched into the main game.
This way players can continue to provide feedback on new features and test them before the general public.
In terms of communication updates, we’ll still be continuing our developer blogs; We’ll still be active on the forums and our Discord, and we’ll still be using Trello for updates. We’re committed to being transparent with Tower’s development, even after Early Access!
Bug Fixes Post 1.0
No developer wants bugs or issues with their game, and we are no different. We want Tower to work as best as it can, and are always going to figure out ways to improve performance, solve issues, and make the game an enjoyable experience for all players.
If you encounter a bug or other issue with the game, we continue to encourage you to let us know on our forums. Tower Unite has a large scope and a small team, so we are always grateful to players for letting us know issues when they arise, or giving us more information on known issues.
We’ll continue to deliver hot fixes and plenty of bug fixes and optimizations in every update.
Post 1.0 Roadmap
Workshop Rental Store
A new expansion to the Condo Hub, the Workshop Rental Store displays both popular and recently released Workshop maps made by the community. This store will allow players to grab a map off the shelves and throw it into a special VHS portal device that will transport players to the map for easy browsing.
This feature is very close to being done, and it just needs some fine tuning. If you’ve followed development, you know this has been in our desired roadmap for quite some time, so we’re excited to get it out to you all.
Condo Pets & Cafe Miaou
We’re working hard on the new pet system, which will be one of the first post-1.0 updates. Pets will have the ability to walk around your Condo, follow you, eat, drink, sleep, and yes, you can pet them! Pets can be named, and you can form a bond with your pet by giving it care and attention.
With pets being added, you’ll need somewhere to adopt them. We’re very excited to finally share our progress on the new Cafe Miaou with all of you! Cafe Miaou will be a new store next to D.I.Y. and will be a place for players to adopt lovable cats to keep in their Condo.
Don’t worry dog lovers; there will also be a dog park in the Plaza, where you can adopt lovable dogs as well!
Community Condos
A much desired feature, Community Condos are dedicated user-hosted Condos. We plan to release Community Condos in stages. The first stage will be allowing players to host a dedicated Condo with their own Condo map and to show them on the new Community Condos server list. The second stage is to add editing support, so approved players can edit the layout of the dedicated Condo and spawn their own items. Community Condos will also have their own save system.
Cooking
Cooking is another project we are wrapping up development on! Plenty of food has been made, and the bulk of the work is now on the programming side.
Updates Beyond
We are fully engaged with developing the updates mentioned above, and we are working our hardest to be able to continue with future updates beyond these. If things go well, we’ll be able to tackle another game world, future arcade updates, and other various projects that have been in the plans from the start.
VR Support
VR development is one of the ongoing projects planned to be a feature of Tower. Converting a game with the scope of Tower Unite to VR is complicated, so it doesn’t have a planned date for now. However, we’ve been steadily making progress and have made huge strides in its development. We plan to roll out changes to VR throughout the months post 1.0.
Future Game Worlds
Future Game Worlds include Planet Panic, Death Run, and a horror Game World. We’ve mentioned it before, but the horror Game World’s scope has grown, so we’re still in the midst of redesigning it to better fit Tower.
Future Game World Maps
Now that we are in a post-1.0 state, our content developers will have more time to work on maps for existing Game Worlds.
We have plenty of Game World maps still in progress, such as Accelerate: Moon City, Virus: Theme Park, and SDNL: Skyline.
Other Upcoming Features to Tower
Tower will continue to grow, and we plan to expand on existing features, such as releasing new Arcade games and Boardwalk Attractions. New Game World Mutators and Upgrades are also in the works.
Other Developments
Tower Unite has been our sole project for a long time. Throughout development we’ve had many ideas and discussions about future games. We’re happy to say we’ve settled on a project we’re most passionate about! With Tower now in its post-1.0 state, we’re excited to finally announce our next game!
Introducing…
The Elevator
The ultimate sequel to Elevator: Source! We have been eager to share this with all of you.
The Elevator will be our second standalone game!
The Elevator is a 6+ player multiplayer game with extended gameplay based on Elevator: Source. For those who aren’t familiar, Elevator: Source is a game about taking a mysterious elevator on a journey to places beyond your imagination. We don’t want to give away too much, but some floors you may have to get off the elevator…
We plan to have more elevating information soon in a future announcement!
Final Thoughts & Early Access Overview
Thanks for sticking around to read this, to play the game, and to see Tower Unite grow. We make games because we love them, and gaming has been an important part of each of our lives. Tower is all about spreading that love!
We can’t wait to keep making games with you all along for the ride.
Below is an overview of every year of Early Access development, up to our last update. I’ve highlighted some updates that were significant in scale or were technical accomplishments for us. All of them are included as interesting parts of Tower’s history.
When you look at this overview, keep in mind that it only scratches the surface of bug fixes, back-end work, and other important changes that have gone on throughout development.
