In this update, 1.0.0.1, we have made major changes to the game to support controllers, along with adding controller icons that support multiple types of controllers. We currently support Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo, and Steam Deck controller icon sets.
ALL Game Worlds now have full controller support! Minigolf, Accelerate, Ball Race, Zombie Massacre, Virus, Little Crusaders, and SDNL now have full controller support, along with force feedback! Plaza activities such as Casino, Arcade, Bowling, Trivia, and Billiards all have controller support as well now!
Controller force feedback was improved across the game, adding rumble to various aspects of gameplay for all the Game Worlds. In Ball Race, bumpers will rumble like a bumper should, in Minigolf you'll feel the slight taps of the railings and the HIO rocket, and in Little Crusaders you will feel the Dragon's roar!
We added controller support to the menus, so you can enter and play game worlds, browse workshop maps, enter your condo or other condos, customize yourself, buy items, or check your collection book progress all with your controller.
This was a huge undertaking and project! We're still working on controller support for the hot bar/player emotes. We are also working on full compatibility with the Steam Deck and will have more news on that soon!

Dev Log for May 12th, 2025
Hello everyone! Welcome to the Tower Unite Dev Log for this week, which will have a new format!
Current Roadmap
If you missed it, here is our Post 1.0 Roadmap featuring the major updates to come. Not every update is listed in this graphic, but you can see more detailed development progress on our Trello or Discord!
What’s New?
Tower Unite Version 1.0 was released on April 19th, 2025! We are so appreciative for the response from you all! And thank you for any bug reports, reviews, feedback, and support!
Since the release, we’ve been making progress on the roadmap updates slated for post-1.0. Progress is being made on the various roadmap projects all at once.
Next Update: Update 1.0.0.1
This next update will be a brief interlude before the Workshop Rental Store to fix some bugs, improve controller support, and prepare for future beta tests.
Controller Support
With the release of 1.0, controller support is a feature near and dear to our hearts. This next update includes great improvements for controller support in Plaza and Game Worlds to the benefit of controller and Steam Deck users alike!
Here is an overview of the controller support features that will be added:
Game World Controller Support (ALL GAME WORLDS)
Menu Controller Support (Game World Select, Workshop Browser, Character Customization, Collection Book)
Force Feedback (Rumble)
Controller Icons
Scoreboard Controller Support
Settings Controller Support
Plaza Map Controller Support
Force Feedback (Rumble)
Controller force feedback will be improved across the game, adding rumble to various aspects of gameplay for all the Game Worlds. In Ball Race, bumpers will rumble like a bumper should, in Minigolf you’ll feel the slight taps of the railings and the HIO rocket, and in Little Crusaders you will feel the Dragon’s roar!
Controller Icons
With this update, we’ll also be adding controller icons that support multiple types of controllers. It will support Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo, and Steam Deck controller icon sets.
Menu Controller Support
We’re also adding controller support to the majority of the menus, so you can enter and play game worlds, browse workshop maps, enter your Condo or other Condos, customize yourself, or check your collection book progress all with your controller.
This has been a huge undertaking and project! We’re still working on controller support, so some of the various aspects of the game such as the hot bar are still lacking full controller support. Support for those are still being developed, as they require more work than other parts of the game.
We are also working towards full compatibility with the Steam Deck and will have more news on that soon!
We will continue to add more controller support to the game in each upcoming update!
Public Betas
About a week and a half ago, we started our first public beta as a test run to help get feedback on the 1.0.0.1 update. The beta testing went very well and we’ll continue to use public betas going forward.
We’ll have more formal announcements that these are going on in the future now that we’ve done this initial try!
To learn how to participate in the public betas, and to give feedback before an update goes live, check out: Tower Unite Public Beta Branches!
Workshop Condo Rental Store
The Workshop Rental Store grand opening is just around the corner! This will be our next Major update!
A new expansion to the Condo Hub, the Workshop Rental Store displays both popular and recently released Workshop maps made by the community, allowing players to quickly grab them off the shelves and transport players to the map for easy browsing.
We are currently putting the final touches and will provide an open beta, so stay tuned and feel free to join in our open beta when announced.
Pets!
We’ve also been working on the new Condo pet system! We’ve made great progress on the pets, as they now have traits such as love and energy, and commands such as sit, follow, eating/drinking, and sleeping.
We’ll have more information on the big pet update that comes out after the Rental Store update!
Community Condos
Community Condos are dedicated user-hosted Condos. Since the 1.0 release, we’ve made great progress on the backend changes needed for the server browser required for Community Condos in the game. Work will continue to be done on this feature.
Surprise Planet Panic Updates?
If you follow our Trello, you may have noticed work has resumed on a Game World, Planet Panic! Planet Panic was one of our earliest game worlds, but we had complaints about the gameplay design and the vehicle networking. The game simply wasn’t up to our standards. Since then, Planet Panic has been in development hell, constantly getting pushed aside due to lack of interest both by our community polls and developers. But all hope is not lost…
We’ve recently discussed some new exciting designs for the gameplay, got some inspiration, and now have developed fully working UFOs with network prediction! With the new gameplay, we hope to add more fun and challenge to the original concept while keeping the cute style.
Progress is also being made on reworking some of the old maps as well.
That’s a Wrap!
That’s going to do it for this week’s dev log! Be sure to keep an eye out for the next one. We’ll be changing from our weekly schedule to a more biweekly announcement with more information than our old dev logs.

Leaving Early Access - Tower Unite Version 1.0
Alright everyone, its time! We’ve been preparing for this moment for years, and with this update we’re sealing the deal:
Tower Unite is out of Early Access!!!
The dream of Tower has been part of some of our team’s lives for almost 20 years now, starting as our lead developer Mac’s highschool daydream in 2006. Now, it’s been 9 years with Tower Unite!
Time really does fly, doesn’t it?
Inspired by our love of theme parks, arcades, resorts, and a metric ton of love for gaming, we’ve been creating a loving place that has endless entertainment and fun, and we’re so happy to give it a big welcome in its 1.0 state!
Our wish was to make a jam-packed game that offers you the world and delivers it as best as it can – a place where friends can hop on and chill, play all sorts of games, and express yourselves in your own digital home.
We have been so humbled by the support we’ve been given. Early access has been an absolute gift, and you all gave us the opportunity to make Tower with our small team and work on the game at our own pace, adding the features we all wanted. It’s been a dream come true. The support from our committed community has been overwhelming, and we are so proud of how much Tower has grown.
With all of the work we’ve done on the game over the years, we feel Tower is ready and doesn’t belong in Early Access any longer.
This does not mean we are done!
Tower development is NOT over. We have games to make, promises we are determined to keep, and we will never stop coming up with new games and ideas for Tower Unite! And, of course, we want to do our best to deliver polish and improvements. This game is our passion.
So, while we’re saying goodbye to Early Access, we want to give you all some info about how future updates will work and are happy to announce our first roadmap for post 1.0!
How Will Updates Work Post 1.0?
If you’ve been following Tower’s journey, you’ve been beta testing the game with us with every update and providing feedback. Since we are leaving early access, we’ll be releasing future major updates on a public beta branch before they get launched into the main game.
This way players can continue to provide feedback on new features and test them before the general public.
In terms of communication updates, we’ll still be continuing our developer blogs; We’ll still be active on the forums and our Discord, and we’ll still be using Trello for updates. We’re committed to being transparent with Tower’s development, even after Early Access!
Bug Fixes Post 1.0
No developer wants bugs or issues with their game, and we are no different. We want Tower to work as best as it can, and are always going to figure out ways to improve performance, solve issues, and make the game an enjoyable experience for all players.
If you encounter a bug or other issue with the game, we continue to encourage you to let us know on our forums. Tower Unite has a large scope and a small team, so we are always grateful to players for letting us know issues when they arise, or giving us more information on known issues.
We’ll continue to deliver hot fixes and plenty of bug fixes and optimizations in every update.
Post 1.0 Roadmap
Workshop Rental Store
A new expansion to the Condo Hub, the Workshop Rental Store displays both popular and recently released Workshop maps made by the community. This store will allow players to grab a map off the shelves and throw it into a special VHS portal device that will transport players to the map for easy browsing.
This feature is very close to being done, and it just needs some fine tuning. If you’ve followed development, you know this has been in our desired roadmap for quite some time, so we’re excited to get it out to you all.
Condo Pets & Cafe Miaou
We’re working hard on the new pet system, which will be one of the first post-1.0 updates. Pets will have the ability to walk around your Condo, follow you, eat, drink, sleep, and yes, you can pet them! Pets can be named, and you can form a bond with your pet by giving it care and attention.
With pets being added, you’ll need somewhere to adopt them. We’re very excited to finally share our progress on the new Cafe Miaou with all of you! Cafe Miaou will be a new store next to D.I.Y. and will be a place for players to adopt lovable cats to keep in their Condo.
Don’t worry dog lovers; there will also be a dog park in the Plaza, where you can adopt lovable dogs as well!
Community Condos
A much desired feature, Community Condos are dedicated user-hosted Condos. We plan to release Community Condos in stages. The first stage will be allowing players to host a dedicated Condo with their own Condo map and to show them on the new Community Condos server list. The second stage is to add editing support, so approved players can edit the layout of the dedicated Condo and spawn their own items. Community Condos will also have their own save system.
Cooking
Cooking is another project we are wrapping up development on! Plenty of food has been made, and the bulk of the work is now on the programming side.
Updates Beyond
We are fully engaged with developing the updates mentioned above, and we are working our hardest to be able to continue with future updates beyond these. If things go well, we’ll be able to tackle another game world, future arcade updates, and other various projects that have been in the plans from the start.
VR Support
VR development is one of the ongoing projects planned to be a feature of Tower. Converting a game with the scope of Tower Unite to VR is complicated, so it doesn’t have a planned date for now. However, we’ve been steadily making progress and have made huge strides in its development. We plan to roll out changes to VR throughout the months post 1.0.
Future Game Worlds
Future Game Worlds include Planet Panic, Death Run, and a horror Game World. We’ve mentioned it before, but the horror Game World’s scope has grown, so we’re still in the midst of redesigning it to better fit Tower.
Future Game World Maps
Now that we are in a post-1.0 state, our content developers will have more time to work on maps for existing Game Worlds.
We have plenty of Game World maps still in progress, such as Accelerate: Moon City, Virus: Theme Park, and SDNL: Skyline.
Other Upcoming Features to Tower
Tower will continue to grow, and we plan to expand on existing features, such as releasing new Arcade games and Boardwalk Attractions. New Game World Mutators and Upgrades are also in the works.
Other Developments
Tower Unite has been our sole project for a long time. Throughout development we’ve had many ideas and discussions about future games. We’re happy to say we’ve settled on a project we’re most passionate about! With Tower now in its post-1.0 state, we’re excited to finally announce our next game!
Introducing…
The Elevator
The ultimate sequel to Elevator: Source! We have been eager to share this with all of you.
The Elevator will be our second standalone game!
The Elevator is a 6+ player multiplayer game with extended gameplay based on Elevator: Source. For those who aren’t familiar, Elevator: Source is a game about taking a mysterious elevator on a journey to places beyond your imagination. We don’t want to give away too much, but some floors you may have to get off the elevator…
We plan to have more elevating information soon in a future announcement!
Final Thoughts & Early Access Overview
Thanks for sticking around to read this, to play the game, and to see Tower Unite grow. We make games because we love them, and gaming has been an important part of each of our lives. Tower is all about spreading that love!
We can’t wait to keep making games with you all along for the ride.
Below is an overview of every year of Early Access development, up to our last update. I’ve highlighted some updates that were significant in scale or were technical accomplishments for us. All of them are included as interesting parts of Tower’s history.
When you look at this overview, keep in mind that it only scratches the surface of bug fixes, back-end work, and other important changes that have gone on throughout development.
Dev Hangout
In celebration of 1.0, you can join us for a Dev Hangout today at 1PM Pacific Time on Twitch! We’ll be playing Tower and talking to you all about the game.

We have been working on a selection of different sprays to be used in all areas of Tower Unite! Sprays are artwork you can spray on walls or the floor in the Plaza, Condos, and even Game Worlds. You can use sprays to express in a new way! You can spray by using the G key.
Sprays can be unlocked at the computer customization station in Tower Threads.
There are over 64 unlockable sprays! Like the profile backgrounds, we have a big batch of sprays for all players to use, as well as a few gift sprays for Supporter Pack 2 owners and a few for Patrons.
Aside from the gift sprays from the Supporter Pack 2 or the Patreon subscription, all sprays will be earnable with Units, Tickets, or event currency (ex. Ghoul Coins). Some require achievements to unlock as well.
Along with the functionality to use sprays, we’ve made a favoriting feature which allows for easy access through a ring menu shortcut (default holding G key).
Player Outfits!
You can now save preset outfits to be equipped from the appearance menu! This means you’ll be able to save your accessory and player model combos for easy access in the future. You’ll also be able to save workshop player models in an outfit. The outfit slots are unlimited, so you can go wild with expressing your different personal styles!
Outfits are also saved as small files you can share with other players (found in Tower Unite/Cloud/Outfits). Outfits are saved to Steam Cloud as well!
Condo Backups
Lost or corrupted Condos are a heartbreaking issue, so we wanted to make improvements to the system to provide backups and give further information on how saving works in this update.
Now, every time your Condo is saved, a backup will be saved to a file on your computer. These files will be zipped up to save space on your system. If you have an issue with your Condo and need to revert, this will give you a secure way to access your old saves.
Backups are stored in the game files, under Tower Unite/Backups/Condos. You can restore a backup by using the new Load From File feature in the Condo Save menu.
The backup system works even when Steam Cloud is down!
Coloring Accessories
Accessories are now colorable! You can now color most of the hats, glasses, and other appearance items in the game, with a few exceptions for some seasonal items. This is a thorough coloring system that allows you to color various parts of an appearance item like you would a Condo item!
Accelerate: 150CC!
There’s a new gamemode for Accelerate: 150CC mode! This mode will pick up the pace of your races and allow for new competition with its own leaderboards.
Condo: Highrise Changes
Highrise had a bit more cleanup work done on it in this update! There were more changes that allowed for colorability, hiding map objects, light toggles, and additional map issues.
Plaza Auto Reconnect
Near the end of each day, we have our Plaza servers restart for maintenance. We now have a system that reconnects players to another Plaza automatically once the Plaza restarts for maintenance, reducing the need for you to have to search and find another Plaza during the maintenance.
Workshop SDK Improvements and Fixes
We've fixed a major issue with Condo IO Movers that affected published SDK maps. Now movers work for SDK maps!
The player model creation SDK now has the ability to preview all the wearables, so you can get a better idea how the offsets will look for all the accessories.
We also added better error handling when uploading workshop player models, specifically around creating the icon for the player model.
Game World Ports Connection Issues Fixed
In the last update, we found an issue that caused Game World Ports not to properly connect players when a game starts. This issue is now resolved!
Friends List Fixed
