Wow! A Potato! đ„ Three NEW Chance Round Items in Trivia Tricks!
Hello Tricksters! Today's update adds three new items!
But first, if you'd like to support Trivia Tricks, then please consider leaving an honest Steam Review letting us know what you think about the game. This will help shape the direction of future updates and helps Trivia Tricks to find more quiz heads on Steam! Thank you!
Now, onto the items!
Use Double Down whenever you're certain you know the right answer to earn double points for that question! Get it wrong and you might look a little silly but it's worth a try!
The Royal Decree is a rare item that steals a percentage of points from any player of your choosing. It then divides that stolen money equally among the other players! If it looks like someone is pulling away with a lead then you know what to do...
If you're given the Hot Potato you better answer the question correctly to pass it on, otherwise itâll explode and you'll lose points! Every time the Hot Potato is passed on, the heat will increase. The hotter it gets the more points itâll take! Just how hot does it get? You'll have to find out for yourselves!
These new items were designed to nudge Trivia Tricks' game balance into rewarding skilful play and creating tighter games. We hope that after this update you'll notice the scoreboard will be much closer!
Finally, if you missed the news, we've been releasing updates that focus on QoL improvements and polish, with the intention to prepare Trivia Tricks for its graduation from Early Access! You can see the last two updates here and here. Todayâs update includes even more polish, which you can find the details of below!
We're looking for inspiration on what to improve in the next patch, so if you want to shape the future of Trivia Tricks' development then consider joining the Discord and putting your suggestion forward!
Finally, to celebrate the Friend Pass Party Bundle the Worm from Last Train Outtaâ Wormtown is now a free hat available to all Trivia Tricks players. Chomp!
Ok, without further delay, onto the full patch notes!
The Double Down item has been added! Use this item to receive double points if you answer the current question correctly!
The Royal Decree item has been added! This rare item allows you to steal a percentage of points from a player (percentage depends on player count) and distribute it between everybody else!
The Hot Potato has been added! This item is immediately in-play, and youâll need to answer correctly to pass it onto the next player and add to the heat. The more heat the Hot Potato has built up then the more points that will be lost after someone answers incorrectly, causing it to explode!
Mr. Tricks likes potatoes and will sometimes talk about them!
As always, these items are not included when Chance Round is set to âTameâ.
After a questionâs answer is revealed the next questionâs category will be shown.
Improved the appearance of some menu elements, particularly around the hostâs lobby settings.
The âstreakâ bonus in the lobby menu is no longer harder to click than the other bonus options.
Players that have deactivated the In-Game Chat in the Options Menu will now see a message in their chatbox informing them why they cannot see the chat.
Players that have deactivated the In-Game Chat in the Options Menu will now see messages related to players joining/leaving games, or suggesting changes to the selected categories.
Fixed some typos and cleaned up the wording on a variety of questions. Thanks to all of you who took the time to report these to us directly!
Fixed a bug in the Character Creator where the description for the âPilot Suitâ wasnât showing.
Fixed a bug where AI characters with identical outfits to a player character could be spawned.
Fixed a bug where players would continue to play the Crystal Ball animation even after losing the item.
Fixed a few issues related to Twitch connection timeouts.

When Tricksters join a game they will now wave! Hello! đ
Tricksters also now have additional animations when a question is asked.
Redesigned the lobby player list to be easier to read and make clearer which players haven't pressed to 'Ready Up' (you know who you are).
Mr. Tricks has new dialogue commenting on players moving up and down in the leaderboard.
Mr. Tricks and the bosses will all repeat dialogue much less often.
Added âRender Scaleâ as a graphics option. This will adjust the render resolution of the game while keeping UI elements at the set resolution. This can be set to as low as 50% if you are seeking extra performance, or as high as 200% if you want to enable SSAA.
The âTexture Qualityâ graphics setting has been removed, as performance improvements made in the last couple months have left this option having no meaningful usage.
The mouse cursor will now go invisible when using a controller.
Fixed cases of the mouse âhoveringâ menu items while being invisible.
When a player is asked to rate a Workshop Category at the end of the game, the name of the Workshop Pack will now be displayed.
The Workshop Search menu has had the âTagsâ and âLanguageâ dialogs visually updated, and the gamepad interaction in these menus has been improved (controller users will no longer have to scroll to the bottom of the list to close it).
Improved the retry logic and error handling of network requests. This should mean that Creating or Updating Workshop packs, and connecting to Twitch, should now be far less likely to fail.
Clicking to Create or Update a Workshop pack with no connection to Steam will now inform players that this is the case.
If a game starts with no categories selected, the default categories will be enabled instead of picking a single random category.
The in-game Pause Menu has been visually updated.
Additionally, the Pause Menu's Settings page has had âDisplayâ and âMiscâ tabs added, which directs players to adjust these in the Main Menu.
Fixed a bug where a lobby wouldnât re-attempt to load the Workshop Categories in the Category Menu if the first attempt failed.
Removed the âbetaâ label from the Twitch menus.

If youâve already got some playtime in Trivia Tricks then youâll automatically get some card drops. Got a favorite Trickster? Then decorate your Steam profile and represent them!
Trivia Tricksâ original Early Access milestones were Co-Op, Twitch Integration and Workshop Support. From your additional feedback during Early Access, Friend Pass has been released as an additional stretch goal.

When you join a game as a Friend Pass player you'll wear the Friend Pass shirt!
Full-game owners can unlock the Friend Pass shirt by earning the new âA Free Challenger Appearedâ achievement by playing a game with a Friend Pass player in the lobby.
As we now recommend playing with Friend Pass instead of Steam Remote Play the references to Steam Remote Play throughout the game have been removed to simplify the joining options.
Did Steam Remote Play work just fine for you? Thatâs great! Steam Remote Play will continue to be supported, even if it is not mentioned in Trivia Tricks itself!
The "How to Play" menu that appears upon entering the Character Select screen has been simplified to highlight Friend Pass. You can stop it from automatically showing by ticking âDo not show againâ
The screen that displays the bonuses during the game introduction has been redesigned to be easier to read.
In addition, the script read by Mr. Tricks during the introduction has also been improved.
Fixed some typos and cleaned up the wording on a variety of questions. Thanks to all of you who took the time to report these to us directly!
Fixed a bug where, when Trivia Tricks checked on startup that every achievement that should be unlocked on Steam has been, one achievement in the set was being missed.

If youâre unfamiliar with Steam Trading Cards - theyâre collectable cards that are earned by playing Steam games and can be crafted into coupons, emoticons and unique profile backgrounds. More information on Steam Trading Cards can be found here.

Can't wait for the Friend Pass update? Then we've got some great news! Friend Pass will now be going live on May 30th! Yes, earlier than previously announced, and in under a weekâs time!
From the 30th of May you'll be able to invite any friends to join your Trivia Tricks lobbies for free, even if they don't own Trivia Tricks or aren't compatible with Steam Remote Play. The Friend Pass page is now live with more information (although the button to add Friend Pass to your account won't work before launch)!
As previously announced, the base price of the full Trivia Tricks game will be increasing after Friend Pass launches to $14.99 / ÂŁ12.79 / âŹ14.79. If youâre interested in hosting Trivia Tricks lobbies or creating your own custom characters then Trivia Tricksâ current price is the cheapest that it will be available for the foreseeable future, don't miss out!
Hello everyone! This update contains some small improvements we've made while preparing for Friend Pass!
As a reminder, Friend Pass is planned to launch on June 1st and will coincide with an increase to Trivia Tricks' pricing! If you've missed the big news then see our previous update notes for a handy FAQ on how Friend Pass will work!
Here are the changes in today's update!
The Server Menu now has a clickable button to join a room by Room Code. This provides a way for mouse and controller players outside of Big Picture Mode to join by Room Code without pressing the Enter key.
Clients in a lobby can now see the Add/Remove AI and Twitch buttons. Clicking these will send a message to the chat informing the host that the player would like to add/remove AI or play with Twitch.
Adjusted the wording on some menus to better reflect their purpose.
Fixed a bug where dismissing the "How to Play Menu" by controller while choosing the number of local players would stop the menu from registering input until players left and re-entered the Character Select Screen.

đ« Friend Pass Release Date & Important Pricing Info đ«
Hello Tricksters! The time has come to share more details on Friend Pass, which will allow you to invite 7 friends into any online lobby through room code, without them needing to purchase Trivia Tricks!
Weâre proud to announce that Friend Pass will be available on June 1st! Here's a short video trailer we've put together going over the details of joining an online lobby as a free Friend Pass player!
Any questions? Good! Here's a handy FAQ!
What is Trivia Tricks Friend Pass?
âTrivia Tricks Friend Passâ is a free Steam download that will allow anyone to join âTrivia Tricksâ games via a room code.
How do I get Friend Pass?
Friend Pass will be available to download through Steam, either as a âdemoâ to Trivia Tricks or as a separate application (details to be finalized).
How many people can play?
Up to 7 players can join an online lobby through Friend Pass! Lobbies can mix and match any combination of full game owners, Friend Pass users, and local players.
Do you have to be added as a âfriendâ on Steam to join the lobby?
Nope! Friend Pass players can join any lobby once they know the room code! Handy for streamers!
Is there a playtime limit?
Nope! Friend Pass players can play as much as they like!
Is this a limited time event?
Nope! Friend Pass is a permanent addition to Trivia Tricks!
Are there any limits to Friend Pass?
Friend Pass players will not be able to host games, but after joining an online lobby through a room code they will be able to play with the same settings as full game owners. This includes Workshop packs, Co-Op Vs Boss mode, and partaking in games with Twitch Chat!
Friend Pass players cannot create their own characters or unlock achievements. If a Friend Pass player later decides to purchase the full game then any progress made in Friend Pass will carry over into the full game. This includes cosmetics, statistics and achievements (any earned achievements will unlock on Steam as soon as the full game is loaded).
Do note, because of the way Steam separates play time between full games and demos, Steam Trading Card drops (available soon) will only be available when playing the full game.
What will happen to Steam Remote Play?
Trivia Tricks will continue to support Steam Remote Play as a way to join friends or connect extra controllers. However, weâve had feedback from players that we should simplify the experience of sharing Trivia Tricks with others - we will therefore be removing the references to Steam Remote Play from Trivia Tricksâ How to Play menus. Remote Play will continue to work as it does today and improve with Valveâs updates to the service.
Will the release of Friend Pass be the final Early Access update?
Friend Pass is the final major milestone that we will be releasing in Early Access, but we have some extra features and polish planned before Trivia Tricks graduates into full release!
And once Trivia Tricks hits launch day the updates won't stop! More updates are planned for Trivia Tricks even after launch, so stay tuned for more exciting news!
My question isnât answered here!
Thatâs not a question!... But thatâs fine! Join the Trivia Tricks Discord to ask your question to the development team directly!
Throughout the span of two and a half years Trivia Tricks has received a frequent stream of content updates including Co-Op Vs Boss Mode, Seasonal Events and Steam Workshop Support while remaining at the same price. This pricing was chosen to reward players who put their trust in us to deliver our Early Access promises, and to thank those who have offered their invaluable feedback during development.
Trivia Tricks now represents more value than it did in 2020 and with the launch of Friend Pass the price of the full game will increase to be in-line with this added value. Once Friend Pass becomes available on June 1st, Trivia Tricks will be priced at $14.99 / ÂŁ12.79 / âŹ14.79. This will be the base price of Trivia Tricks upon leaving Early Access too.
We would like to thank all our fans who have supported us during Early Access, without you Trivia Tricks would not have been possible! If youâre interested in hosting Trivia Tricks lobbies or creating your own custom characters then Trivia Tricksâ current price is the cheapest that it will be available for the foreseeable future. Donât miss it!
The character selection screen has been altered to give you a more streamlined process getting into games! You will now be prompted to select how many players are using the same device to play. Once confirmed you'll be given the appropriate number of slots to select your characters! This should clear up some confusion around the correct place to add local players. For most players this is simply an extra button click and then proceeding as normal.
As always, if you like what weâre doing, please hit the thumbs up below this news post! If you have more detailed thoughts then do consider leaving a Steam Review letting us know what you think - they really help us out!
If you want to reach out to us developers then we can always be found in the Discord. Thank you for following Trivia Tricks!
