Trombone Champ

v1.088 is live!

v1.088 of Trombone Champ is live! Here's what's up in this version:

  1. New tracks: "Taps" and "La Marseillaise!"
  2. More performance optimizations.
  3. Very short notes should now tally their points correctly and have a unique display.
  4. Added a display of total toots to the score screen.
  5. Added shortcuts to card collection + baboon screens from the score screen.
  6. If your settings file becomes corrupted for any reason, the game should now create a new file rather than softlocking on launch.

Mod alert!!! Nothing in this update should completely break the game, but some mods may need to be updated:

  • The way scores are calculated has been changed very slightly to accommodate short notes. A lot of custom tracks created by users contained very short notes which would always give the user a score of 0. That should now be fixed, but any mods that display score data or work with scoring may need slight adjustments.
  • The screen that displays your score has been updated, so any mods that add stuff to that screen may need updating.

More updates on the way, as always! Thank you for your continued patience!

v1.087 is live!

Build 1.087 is now live! This one does the following:

  • New track: "Sakura Sakura"
  • Significant performance optimizations during gameplay. If the game would sometimes stutter for you, or your framerate wasn't great, this should potentially help quite a bit.
  • You can now specify a target framerate in the Graphics Settings panel.
  • You can now mute the music that plays in the main menus via a tiny button in the corner of the screen.
  • You can now use the control key to toot.
  • More stuff behind the scenes.

More updates are on their way... there are a few very large updates we're working on behind the scenes. Thank you for your continued patience and happy tooting!

v1.085 is live!

v1.085 is now live! This update:

  • Adds support for 16:10 resolutions, which should make the game a lot nicer on a lot of laptops!
  • Adds the ability to choose a random track in the Track Select screen!
  • Adds a new track: "The Celebrated Chop Waltz," also known as "Chopsticks!"
  • Optimizes how notes are drawn and removes the tiny gap that appears in long connected notes!
  • Lots of additional tweaks and improvements scattered around!

Please note: This update substantially changes how songs are loaded, and if you're using mods to load in custom songs, you will almost definitely need to update them! We've been sharing these updates with key members of the modding community early, so they can be ready with patches.

Why does this patch substantially change how songs are loaded?... Because we have some very big updates that we hope to launch soon... Hope to be able to share them soon!

v1.08 is live!

Version 1.08 is now live! This one adds a bunch of fun stuff:

  • Score Graph: You can now view a graph of your scores when you complete a song. We will continue to adjust and improve this graph in future updates!
  • Bass Trombone: There's a new sound set, the bass trombone, which is available by default!
  • Selectable Character Vibes: In the character select screen, you can now select "jubilant" or "estudious" character vibes. This mostly affects how much the character dances and bounces around while playing.
  • Audio Buffer Settings: In the settings menu, you can now manually adjust the audio buffer. Decreasing this value will slightly improve audio latency. Please note: adjusting this setting is only recommended for users with powerful computers. Reducing it too much will lead to weird audio issues and slow-motion gameplay.
  • Save Backups: The game should now create a backup of your save as soon as you select a save slot in the loading screen. If your save becomes corrupted for some reason while playing the game, you should be able to use the backup instead of losing everything!
  • New Track: Martian Killbots!!!
  • Once again, made short notes slightly more forgiving.

Apologies for the delay on this one - the past week was extremely busy. Look forward to lots of more updates soon!

v1.07 is live!

Version 1.07 is now live! Here's what's new:

  • A lot of new control options: more sensitivity controls, the ability to change to a "relative" mode, the ability to use left-to-right (may help people with touchpads), the ability to adjust "smoothing," etc.
  • The ability to test out your control settings instantly. It's very easy to tinker with the settings until it feels perfect.
  • An experimental mode which should make things easier for the people who've built physical controllers.
  • Three new songs!
  • Behind the scenes, a lot of work is being done to make the game work perfectly on 16:10 screens.
  • New visual effect if you get an extremely high score that goes off-screen.

The control stuff and 16:10 work are being done to prepare for a Mac release. Most Mac laptops have 16:10 screens, and we imagine lots of people might use their touchpads, which necessitated the control updates.

Lots more to come! Thank you for your patience!

First batch of accessibility improvements is live!

We just pushed v1.06, which fixes a small few bugs and tweaks a few things behind the scenes, but mostly adds a new Accessibility settings panel. We're fully aware that the game isn't anywhere near fully accessible, but this should help some people!

We're starting with five main accessibility options:

  • Minimizing jumpscares: This was already in the game, but has been moved to this new popup.
  • Minimize flashing & screen effects: Greatly reduces the strength of flashing and moving screen effects that appear throughout the game, with the exception of opening and closing cinematics.
  • Remove song backgrounds: Completely removes backgrounds from gameplay.
  • Reduce chest clicks: Dramatically reduces the number of clicks required to open chests. A number of people have complained that the 99 clicks are physically strenuous.
  • Adjust hatches: For users who are completely unable to achieve S scores for any reason, this allows them to unlock everything anyways. Checking this option adjusts the rules that determine whether or not the latch can be opened.

We'd like to add more in the future - especially alternate control methods. Stay tuned!

Thank you for playing!

Tootmaster Tom has returned!

With the last update, Tootmaster Tom went on a very brief vacation. He's back now, and he apologizes for his absence.
