Ultimate Arena 6.0 - Leap of Faith
It's Ultimate Arena's 2nd (err.. 8th?) birthday, and we are delivering one of the most requested features in our latest 6.0 update: Ultrawide and Scaling support.
What's changed?
When Ultimate Arena was written, it ran exclusively in windowed mode at 720p. This made sense at the time because it was meant to be played on stream at 1080p, and that gave room for additional content for the streamer. Over the years higher and higher resolution screens have become readily available, and often not in 16:9 ratio - the only aspect ratio Ultimate Arena supports.
Today, you can finally play Ultimate Arena at the correct aspect ratio in fullscreen on any display >720p. This was accomplished by reworking the code for every single menu and window in the game. This glorious improvement allows for Ultrawide support, but also 4:3, 5:4, and 16:10. You can now play Ultimate Arena with fullscreen on a Steam Deck. This massive quality of life change we hope will bring you back to the Arena, one more time.
What's to come?
In a future update we will have an integer scaling option for those who want to run at extra high resolutions (i.e. 4k 3840x2160) to scale the picture up from 1/2 or 1/3 the resolution. This will ensure that Ultimate Arena remains playable even as our pixel counts creep into the tens of millions.

Ultimate Arena v5.5 - An Elongated Christmas
Arena Operators,
Further improvements have been made to the tools at your disposal, in particular a secret Santa hat applicator that only activates in the month of December has been added to the detailed fighter view. You can only enable Santa hats on characters that believe in him.
Snow and holiday theming has returned, and should return every year automatically before reverting to the regular arena theming in January.
Lastly, you may have noticed this release skips 5.4 and goes straight to 5.5. 5.4's changes have been incorporated into this patch including changes that address a few small bugs and performance concerns.

The 1st Birthday
On February 29th, 2016 we released Ultimate Arena. Now, 4 years later, we get to celebrate its first birthday.
This update includes several community suggested features and some features of our own design. Newspapers have some additional funny quips to add to the regular stream of updates and the 3D Map takes you in for a closer look at some of the magic going inside of the arena. We think players casual and old will both find new and interesting situations with these updates to our tools.
While this is our last big feature update for the game, we're committed to keeping it bug-free. Please submit all bug reports on the Ultimate Arena github page where we can better address any issues that come up. We thank our wonderful fans who have supported the game for 4 years.

every day i get home and read literally hundreds of emails begging for gameplay in ultimate arena. how people manage to completely miss the point of this "game" is beyond me. it's like an aquarium, you watch it, maybe it's interesting or maybe it isn't. i don't care.

Mini Update: Quick Crop
We're always trying to make the process of character creation a little bit more user friendly. Today we're dropping a small update that let's you crop your images if they're not the native 128x128 size.

The 12 Features Update, OUT NOW!
Twelve features requested, thirteen features delivered!
The 12 Features update has hit Steam. Some of my favorites:
The most requested feature was custom sprites, now on the fighter editor you'll be able to set directional 32x32 sprites for your characters.
Animated fighter images. Make a sprite strip and set it as a fighter image and boom! Portraits will be more lively than ever!
Scrollable updates list. You can now scroll through updates! People will stop getting mad at me for this finally!
While I'm here I'd like to talk about Ultimate Arena updates for the remainder of the year.
The Twitch Update This will bring the highly requested Twitch.tv features back into the game. We think that Ultimate Arena will be a great game to chill and hang out with your viewers, and this update will allow for your followers to get in on the action. Expect this update in March.
An Ultimate Fool's Surprise I don't recall if we've ever done an April Fool's update. There will be one this year though.
The Maps 2.0 Update I can't stand the way Ultimate Arena's maps currently work, so I am throwing all the current code out the window and starting from scratch on this section. Maps are unfortunately a big part of the game so it will take some time to make progress on this. Expect this update in September.
And that's what we've got planned. Of course smaller things and bugfixes will always be happening. Speaking of which, reporting bugs on Github is the best way for me to see them. With many big changes to the game there's a good chance bugs will pop up.
At the beginning of the month I asked for help in winning "The Fight Before Christmas", since then PewDiePie has increased his subscriber count over T-Series to over one million. In return I said I would add 12 highly requested features to Ultimate Arena, so it's now my turn to deliver on that promise. The Fight Before Christmas
Gamers, 9 year olds, and everyone else who happens to use our products by rare chance,
It has come to my attention that one of Ultimate Arena's most valuable participants, Donald J. Trump PewDiePie is in dire need of our help. In a matter of days the accolade of Most Subscribers on YouTube will be lost to the Indian Bollywood conglomerate "T-Series". While normally we consider ourselves mid-tier Bollywood fans, we must set aside our biases and protect the titles of our fighters.
We're launching an all-out attack. Starting today the latest Ultimate Arena update "The Fight Before Christmas" is rolling out to hundreds of thousands of people. In every corner of every match the subscriber counts for both PewDiePie and T-Series are listed, along with a Defcon number to indicate the severity of the situation. On the title screen is a direct link to PewDiePie's YouTube channel. This update will last through the end of the month, at which point there are 3 outcomes.
GOOD ENDING If PewDiePie holds his title through the end of the month we will add 12 features that fans request ("The 12 Features of Christmas"
OK ENDING If PewDiePie loses his title, but gains it back by the end of the month we will add the 12 Features of Christmas, but also add T-Series as a fighter
BAD ENDING If PewDiePie is overtaken by T-Series at the end of the month, we will remove Ultimate Arena from Steam.
With your help, we can prevent this Bollywood takeover.
