Rotation Change


The Brigand, Spitting Dragon, and Turtle ship will be available till March 3rd.

Match Making Changes



  • Reduced queue time down to 60 seconds.
  • Increased bot fill count to 8.


Hull Upgrade Repair Nerf


Reduced health regained while not in damage in half from 2/3/4 to 1/1.5/2 per second.

Bug Fixes



  • Iron Horns now properly warns users when not enough gold to use ability.
  • Fixed an issue where international currencies weren't charged the right amounts.
  • Fixed an issue with Ghastly Crow smoke on Match Making.
  • Fixed various server side issues on queueing.

Early Access Launch! v6

Ahoy!

Yesterday marked our launch into Early Access!

Matchmaking Live!


We're currently addressing issues on our matchmaking server; we hope to resolve them soon! Availability may continue to be intermittent for the next week or so. Customs matches should still continue to be a solid way to play if service is down.


Turtle ship Added



  • Added our fith boat to the game; designed for mid-range combat
  • Passive reduces incoming cannonball damage: 3/5/7
  • Active ability Hwacha: Fires 6/9/12 rockets that deal up to 30 damage, increasing as it gets further away.


Ships on rotation



  • 2/22 to 3/1 The Brigand, Iron Horns, and Turtle ship
  • 3/1 to 3/8 Ghastly Crow, Spitting Dragon, and Turtle ship


Map Updated



  • Slight adjustments to several islands that were too close together
  • Fixed several hitbox issues.
  • Fixed several LOD issues that were causing poping.


Tutorial Minimap Added



  • Added a minimap to the tutorial map.


Main Menu Refresh



  • Moved various UI elements around
  • New Tutorial, Match Making, Custom Match selection screen

Minimap Updated



  • New minimap artwork
  • Trade routes are now visible, trade ships have been removed from minimap

This latest patch has various changes that include:

Hitbox fix for the rock archway.
New translations on the main menu; not all text has been changed yet.
Better key rebinding on the options menu.
Controller support on the main menu.
Smarter anti-cheat for ship movement that is more flexible on unstable network connections.

Over this past month we've been working more on our server code as well as refactoring how we manage game information and ship stats; this will make adding the new boats that we have planned for our next phase of development go smoother.

HUD Improvements



  • Kill icons are now in.
  • Highlight changes on killfeed.
  • Upgrade available text added / flashes.
  • Added one minute remaining text.
  • Changed clock font color to white.
  • Clock color changes to yellow and motion during last 30 seconds.
  • Added 10 second countdown.
  • Quest text movement.


Balance Changes



  • Ghastly Crow death gas time increased: 4.5 seconds -> 6 seconds
  • Ghastly Crow poison damage changed: 7/14/18 -> 9/13/18
  • Ghastly Crow bonus speed removed: 0/6/12% -> 0/0/0
  • Trade ships now pick up ship wrecks.


SFX



  • Added new dopler effect on cannon balls.
  • New card entry and exit audio.
  • Water splashes when getting hit.
  • Audio levels and adjustments.


Other fixes



  • Controller joysticks now use exponential rather than linear mapping.
  • Various fixes to cached particle & trade ship from object pooling.
  • Fixed ship explosion particle timing being off.
  • Fixed issue with KOTH timing resetting while clients were capturing.
  • Fixed issue with KOTH icon and hill not going away on clients.

Graphics Improvements



  • Reflections now softly fade out as they get further away.
  • Sails on the Brigand, Spitting Dragon, Ghastly Crow, and Iron Horns now ripple from wind.
  • Increased the number of volcanos visible in the distance.
  • Added VFX sparkles on the player ship when upgrade is available.
  • Minimap shows 1st place player as gold.
  • Zoomed out Minimap for further view distance.
  • Added wakes for Bayonet ship.


Perf improvements



  • Improved batching on water rendering.
  • Added particle batching on Ghastly Crow gas.



Balance Changes



  • Decreased Iron Horns dash time & range across all levels.
  • Spitting Dragon's Flamethrower lvl 0 and lvl 2 have increased/decreased respectively by a bit to move it closer to lvl 1.
  • Increased max ship speed by 7% across all sail levels
  • Decreased ship acceleration by 7% across all sail levels
  • Increased Brigand gold earned per cannon ball: 5 / 5 / 5 -> 5 / 7 / 9


Tutorial Fixes


Fixed various bugs and spelling on the tutorial level.

We've been doing a lot of behind the scenes improvements to the game; planning and prototyping over the past to find the next steps on where we're taking the game. We have some cool VFX improvements coming in the next week, so be on the lookout!

Performance Improvements



  • Multithreading for collisions and AI systems are now implemented
  • Reduced memory leaks and better object pooling reducing garbage collection spikes


Graphical Improvements



  • Improved rope rendering when Anti-aliasing is turned on
  • Added wind to Spitting Dragon sails, other ships will have wind on soon.


Misc Changes



  • Improved bot AI
  • Improvements & bug fixes to objective system
  • SFX improvements on cannon shots, death, and new waterfall SFX
  • Improved our database backend to make feature development easier

Head Up Display changes


Moved current gold to bottom left of the screen into a progress bar towards next upgrade.
Moved rank position to top left of the screen.

Fixed Metal rendering issues on newer Mac devices making them all pink.

Fixed white blobs due to graphical errors on the wakes.
