Mac graphical bugs fixed



Fixed upside down reflections and other NaN shader errors resulting in black squares.


Island camera clipping



We've been playing around with changes to make it easier to sail your ship while terrain is in the way. Ships now XOR transparency when they're being blocked.

Here are the changes for today's build.

Smoother trade ship paths



Trade ship route is smoothed out to reduce jerkiness.

Unity 5.6 upgrade



With the release of 5.6 today, we've upgraded our project to the latest version and with it now have MSAA x4 enabled.

Suicide penalty increase



Infamy loss on death by a tradeship or land is now doubled.

Players now lose 2 upgrades on death from tradeships or land.


Bots fixed!



Fixed bug where Bots were sometimes ignoring their aim radius

Graphical Tweaks


  • New flame/smoke visual effect on ships hit by Spitting Dragon; to show that they're taking dot.
  • Screen space effect when taking various forms of damage; Green for posion, Orange/Red-ish pulse for fire, and Red for other damage.
  • Trade ship hull & sails turn black as they're damaged.


Misc


  • HUD health bar is now larger
  • Loading now shows when joining a custom game lobby

Graphical Tweaks


LOD group bias is now set
Soft particles are on
Increased chunk view distance
Made the water darker blue/green
Made the skybox ligher blue
Changed fog color closer to white
Added in height based fog calculation
World has increased curvature
New upgrade VFX
New cannon ball land hit VFX

Fixes


Addressed stability issues with the main flag server.
Fixes to help with player/bot disconnections not appearing correctly on clients and resulting in "ghost" ships
Fixed issue with ship selection not saving.
Added in unique placeholder descriptions for chests & ships.

Avast!

Here are a couple minor fixes and tweaks following this week's earlier update.

Voice Over effects now play significantly less frequently.

Added several hover, selected, and disabled visual effects on the main menu.

Top tier chests are now purchasable.

Updated Store prices; now 500/2000/8000 for chests and 50,000 gold for ships.

Ship sail emblems now properly work in game.

Fixed the start timer for the volcano effect.

Bots now have a lower arc of fire behind them.

Bots deal less damage: 25->20 per cannon ball.

Patch Notes Alpha v5

Ahoy! We got a lot of out of match experience stuff together in this build!

We've finished up our new main menu flow to allow navigation between the lobby, customization, and store to be more seemless. The goal is while you're waiting on a match to start you can still get the full customization experience from within the collection menu. We'll still be adding in some breadcrumbs and polish but this build brings us a step closer to where we want to be.

Earning Gold & Unlocking Chests


Note that we will be doing several player data wipes before launch.

Everyone starts with 5000 gold, which will provide a head start of flags to play with.

You can earn gold and XP from 10 custom games every day.

Wood chests contain 3 common flags with a 10% chance of 1 being rare.
Gold chest contain 5 flags, with 2 being rare and a 10% chance of 1 being epic.
Epic chests contain 7 flags; 5 rare, 2 epic and a 10% chance of 1 being legendary.

New Results Screen


Displays how much gold and xp you earn, and a new standings page.

Patch Notes for February 10th

Ahoy! We got a bunch of stuff in this recent build geared towards improving pixel fillrate issues that were causing slow framerates on low-end PCs.

Performance Improvements



  • Optimized LOD1 and LOD2 islands.
  • Redid trees to remove cutout shader.
  • Smaller texture sizes more texture atlases.
  • Islands have fewer draw calls to the GPU.
  • Simpler terrain shader for LOD1 and 2 islands.


We're still working on the proper distances for the LOD islands to show, so there is some LOD popping on some of them. With these changes completed we'll be able to push the view distance for higher end PCs further and do some more cool visual improvements in the near future!

Logo Animation and Out of Match experience


We now have our opening logo animated and in the works of integrating more of our new menus! We've been making headway on our servers and will have the progression system live in about 2 weeks!

New Content



  • 4 new islands; Colossus head, feet, and arm is now near the temple ruins.
  • More sharks!
  • Added in 8 new flags designed by Lacey Drake.


Tweaks


Improvements to colors and lighting on playerships and islands.

Patch Notes for January 18th

Ahoy! Just a couple smaller bug fixes, performance improvements, and tweaks in this week's update.

Bot improvements



  • Gold! Will now prioritize picking up shipwrecks.
  • Bots are no longer fully upgraded at the start of a match, and will spend gold to upgrade.
  • Shotgun blast: Cannon ball damage lowered to 25, fire 5/6/7 shots that have a much wider spread.
  • Ramming Speed: at low health bots will now try to ram into nearby opponents.


Tweaks



  • Easier to pass through rocky island area north of the volcano.
  • Moved a spawn point a little further away from port to prevent bots from running ashore.
  • All flags are unlocked again
  • Minor performance improvements.
  • Game Icon & Logo updated.
  • Pirate ports have their own colors.

Ahoy! Hope everyone has had a great holiday season! Here's a rollup of the recent changes!

Placeholder Matchmaking & Server integration


Our first pass at matchmaking and account management is in this build. We're currently transitioning our server so it'll be down for the next few days as we get setup.

Caribbean map updates



  • Lighthouse map section
  • Temple Ruins
  • Sharks have been seen roaming the depths


Bayonette and Bot updates



  • New ship for practice bots
  • Can fire in a 270 degree arc, including the front! Beware!
  • Their first mate has been drinking; added inaccuracy to their aiming


Bug Fixes



  • Q/E/T upside down ships
  • Skybox killing aiming line on the horizon and lighthouse fire
  • Better collision detection

Patch Notes for December 22nd

Ahoy! Hope everyone has a happy holidays! We've brought you scalawag some cool updates.

Remade Caribbean map is now default



  • First pass of collisions are in; very quick and dirty will be improving it
  • Some duplicated terrain will be in for a while as we swap them out for set pieces
  • Trade ships no longer despawn at reaching ports, they will continue along their path
