Vermillion

Shh, quiet... Silent multiplayer rooms added.

Not one for talking? You can now mark your multiplayer room to be silent, disallowing all voice chat. When joining a public room, you can filter on only silent rooms, or only voice chat rooms. You can now also mute yourself in voice chat rooms.

Multiplayer & LIV fixes

  • Fixed an easel spawning on top of you when entering multiplayer under certain circumstances.
  • Fixed first person avatar showing up in LIV.

Fixed multiplayer not initializing for players without the Oculus app + blocking

  • People who don't have the Oculus app installed were note able to launch into multiplayer. This is fixed.
  • You can unblock users.
  • You get the option to also block users that were banned by the host.
  • Fixed screen side bar not hiding with the visibility toggle.

Multiplayer goes live!

We're officially here: multiplayer is out of beta and ready for prime time. Paint together with up to four people, cross platform with Quest.

I've worked tirelessly to get this running. If you're having fun in multiplayer, or still solo in the studio, I'd very much appreciate a review! 🙏🏻

EULA updated for clarity.

Because of some people misinterpreting the EULA, I've updated it to provide clearer language. Here is what changed:

6. User content
USER CONTENT IS CONTENT SUBMITTED TO THE GAME. CONCRETELY, THIS MEANS THAT IT IS THE PAINTINGS YOU SHOW DURING MULTIPLAYER. THESE HAVE TO BE SYNCHRONIZED TO OTHER PLAYERS AND ARE TEMPORARILY STORED ON A SERVER TO DO SO.
6.1 Nothing in this EULA shall transfer ownership of any Intellectual Property Rights in the User Content from the User to the Licensor.
6.2 The User grants to the Licensor a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free and irrevocable licence to copy, store, delete and distribute the User Content as required for online services (multiplayer painting) only.
...
6.7 The User must ensure that the User Content, and its use by the Licensor in accordance with the licences set out in this EULA, does not:
(a) infringe any copyright, moral right, database right, trade mark right, design right, right in passing off, or other intellectual property right;
(b) infringe any right of confidence, right of privacy or right under data protection legislation;
(c) constitute a contempt of any court, or be in breach of any court order; (d) breach any racial or religious hatred or discrimination legislation; (e) breach official secrets legislation;
6.8 The User shall ensure that the User Content is appropriate for all persons who have access to or are likely to access the User Content in question.
6.9 The User shall ensure that the User Content must not include any material that is or has ever been the subject of any threatened or actual legal proceedings or any similar complaint.
6.10 The User shall ensure that the User Content does not consist of or contain any legal, financial, investment, taxation, accountancy, medical or other professional advice.
6.11 The User shall ensure that the User Content does not constitute or contain spam - which for these purposes shall include all unlawful commercial communications, bulk commercial communications and unsolicited commercial communications.

Fixed crash on start that happened for some users.

This patch fixes the crash on start that plagued some users, caused by the Facebook Avatars. It also contains some small fixes for multiplayer. Unfortunately, this currently puts Steam a version ahead of Quest, and cross-play will therefore not be possible until I also update the Quest version. Hang in there!

Additional fixes:

  • Fixed LIV chroma key showing the skybox instead of the chroma key.

If Vermillion doesn't launch...

The multiplayer beta update adds Meta Avatars, which in rare cases cause a crash on start on PC. I'm on vacation and can't investigate that further currently. If you're experiencing this, you can revert to the single player only build by right clicking Vermillion in your Steam library, properties, betas, and selecting pre-multiplayer. Happy painting!

Small fixes

  • Fixed browser not being positioned correctly when left handed
  • Small bug fix when connecting to multiplayer server

Multiplayer goes into beta!

That's right, Vermillion is now multiplayer. You get to paint together with up to 3 friends, or 3 new friends you meet in a public room. It's still in beta, so don't be upset for any hiccups you may encounter, but instead report them to me on either the Steam community, or in Discord (https://vermillion-vr.com/discord)

A big "known issue" in the Steam version right now is that you can't select your avatar - you get a randomly assigned Facebook avatar every time you start up, so be aware of that.

Note: I'm gone travelling for two months starting this Wednesday, so I won't be able to respond to your requests for a while. Fingers crossed things will go as smoothly as possible.

Fixed lighting on brush tips.

Thanks to user Arctica for reporting that the lighting on the brush tips is too dark in the night time variants. This is fixed now. Sorry for the inconvenience!
