Vertigo 2: Into the Aether delayed to April 2025
Hi gamers, I'm sorry to say that I'm going to have to push the release of Into the Aether out a month into April. Development is going smoothly, but I have a busy month ahead of me and I don't want to rush the release.
Thanks for your patience! Please enjoy these new screenshots as a consolation.
- Improved poly count on Enlightenment gun model - Added option to allow pause-launch speedrun exploit in custom levels - Removed sandbox death screen as it was causing crashes. Checkpoint will be loaded immediately instead.
Announcing Vertigo 2: Into the Aether
Into the Aether is a story expansion for Vertigo 2. Embark on an interdimensional expedition to the oldest and most mysterious universe, discover new weapons and tools, and defeat fearsome new enemies. It will be released in March 2025 for $9.99 USD on Steam.
Claim artifacts of the Void to increase your strength and unlock new paths to explore.
The Void Grappler is the ultimate movement upgrade. It’s a grappling hook that can attach to most surfaces, letting you swing around like a maniac in any environment.
The Void Deflector is a new defensive option. Deflect attacks with precise timing, accumulating energy for a counterattack.
And more!
In Vertigo 2, Brian unknowingly helped the Void Delegation's attempt to invade earth. Now, he's fighting against them at the side of the rogue realmwalker Kauboi. With the Delegation in disarray, Kauboi wants to attempt a rescue mission that would have been impossible before. Will Brian be able to pull it off?
Stay Out of the Aether is an illustrated short story set before the events of the Vertigo games. It also contains some bonus content:
A map of the known areas of Aether
A report on Aether by Planck scientists
Brand new concept art
A digital copy of Stay out of the Aether is included with the DLC.
Collector’s Edition
A physical collector’s edition is available to order now. It includes:
A signed copy of Stay out of the Aether
Vertigo 2: Into the Aether game box
Vertigo 2: Into the Aether steam key
The collector’s edition will have a limited run of just 100 to start. If it sells out quickly, I may print more. The first batch should ship by the end of 2024.
I said that the Bottomless Update would be the last content update for Vertigo 2, and I truly did not plan on making any more content. Into the Aether started as just a short story, but I thought it would be good promotion for it to create a new boss fight or something to go along with it, and feature creep took over from there. I want to be clear about the scope of Into the Aether: It will only consist of three extra chapters (compared to the 18 chapters in Vertigo 2’s campaign) with a couple new boss fights. It is no Shadow of the Erdtree level mega-DLC. My focus was rather on making it stand out from the base game with fresh game mechanics and a different tone. The grappling hook is the obvious highlight here, and I hate to brag, but it is super fun to use. It will also be available to replay the campaign with (surely this will not break the game) and to add to custom levels, which should be endlessly amusing.
Improved reliability of interaction while on vehicles
Added "disable loading screens" option to graphics settings which can be enabled to fix a SteamVR crash on Quest headsets
4/15 patch
Fixed Console Commands not working reliably when connected to an Auto Trigger
Fixed duplicated enemy groups and ally squads not linking to the duplicated enemies
4/12 Patch
Due to popular demand and how easy they are to implement, I have added a couple new special props to the level editor. The Randomizer randomly selects between two outputs, and the Console Command prop runs a console command when triggered. Both are available in the "special props" category. I've made a couple other small changes as well.
Message link UI is now fully visible when behind objects
Removed leaderboards as they were causing frequent crashes
Added "navdebug" console command which displays the AI navigation mesh
Added Randomizer prop
Added Console Command prop
4/1 patch
laugh
3/24 Patch
- Fixed dev mode being enabled by default - Added some missing joystick deadzones in controller bindings - Added new featured community levels:
Nullspaces by The Thunder Ghost By far the biggest and most ambitious level ever created in Vertigo 2. A backrooms-inspired exploration and horror map with tons of custom assets and impressive atmosphere.
JoeJeff Stapler by Brohonky A detailed remake of the game Squirrel Stapler. Hunt JoeJeffs in an idyllic countryside and staple them to your wife. A word of criticism though: the map is very large and the JoeJeffs are very hard to find.
Minigames by Doctor Walter A fun collection of minigames with a cute hub menu connecting them. Bonus points for a music track selector.
The Soviet Dam by DipC A straightforward combat challenge set on a vertigo-inducing dam. Great sense of scale!
