Viscera Cleanup Detail

Free OSX Demo; testing needed!

Greetings noble Janitors.

In the continued interests of getting a working OSX/Mac build working, we've created a free demo you can download right now and play.

It should be noted that we really need testers on this. In order to get an official build out for OSX, we need to first confirm that Multiplayer actually works for it, or if it does not.

So please, if anyone is able and would like to try it out, either on LAN, or over the internet, then it'd be great if you could do so.

The demo does not feature any Steam networking, so connections would have to be through Direct IP connections, and they'd need to be port-forwarded, etc.

If you can, please leave feedback on this thread here:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/246900/discussions/0/305510202678168526/

Thank you.

NOTE: Cross-platform MP between this demo and the PC demo is not possible.

Mac/OSX build; Pre-release beta!

Greetings noble Janitors!

In preparation for an official Mac release, we've updated the beta build.
If you happen to already have the game and a Mac, you can give it a try.
You can check out how to access it in this thread:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/246900/discussions/0/604941528487326270/?ctp=20
Just simply enter the password on the Steam client, and download the build.

If all goes well, we'll release the build as an official port.

One thing to note however, is that the build is unfortunately lacking some important features we've been unable to get working, not from a lack of trying...
Alas, we'll have to make do.

The following features are missing/buggy from/with the port:

  • Steam Achievements
  • Steam Multiplayer
  • Cross Platform MP
  • Xbox Controller Support(Might work for your system, I couldn't get it working on mine; OSX, etc)
  • Reverb sound effects in levels
  • Sometimes you have to force-quit to close the game

We also cannot guarantee normal MP between Macs will work. We've been unable to test it, so if you discover that it does in fact work, excellent!

Other than that, the game works pretty well. All the important parts of the actual gameplay run fine(as near as we can tell).
The DLC, HoH will also be made available after release.

Of course, the idea behind the beta tests is to confirm that everything is as we expect, and that there aren't other problems we've yet to consider.

So, if you can, give it a try. Otherwise just wait for the official release; if nothing utterly calamitous occurs.
Thanks.

Update v1.09 live!

Greetings all you hard-working Janitors!
And to the not so hard-working slackers, shame on you! *Airlock opening in 3...2...1..WOOSH*

For those of you still with us. We have an another update!

v1.09 brings with it some general fixes and improvements, as well as some additions for workshop creators.

Nothing truly fascinating, I'm afraid, but important nonetheless.

Read on for the full list:

    Game:
  • Fixed collected Trophies not being lost when you get fired and then use the "quit" command to exit.
  • Fixed Player Gibs not using level-specific overlay masks; HoH Bones & Santa Gloves + Boots

    Multiplayer:
  • Fixed Trunk contents not appearing in the trunk when clients first connect.
  • Disabled File Transfers when connecting to games that have content you do not.

    Santa's Rampage:
  • Fixed items in the Janitor Trunk counting against the Sanitized Earth achievement. Trunk Contents no longer matter, and neither do Brooms.
  • Fixed collected elves snapping upright when loading up the Janitor Office.
  • Fixed elf corpses sometimes snapping upright when loading a saved-game.

    Workshop:
  • Made it possible to toggle interactive consoles on/off(Enabled/Disabled) using the Kimset Toggle action.
  • Made it possible to create custom punch-out company notices, hate-mail, inspection reports and employee of the month pictures for use with your levels.

And on that note, there probably won't be much in the way of updates moving forward. If possible, some more stubborn issues will be fixed, but otherwise the only thing coming in the near future is an update to the OSX Beta build. We hope to have that ready next week.

Until then, enjoy everyone!

Update v1.08 live!

Hey everyone!

After a good amount of time spent bug fixing, we've got a few very important, albeit uninteresting updates for you!

Firstly, I'd just like to mention a few important things.

A lot of work was put into improving network connectivity, as we're well aware of just how many people have had trouble with that. The problem is complicated, and we've always been trying to improve it, but had little success. We've never been able to do much about it. Mainly because we don't have access to that lower level of the game engine, so we can't get a good idea of where things are going wrong between game -> engine -> steam, and have no way to change that.

That being said, we did make a little progress, but I'm not sure how much difference it will make. That's why in this update there will be a small change that may make it suddenly work for you, make it break for you where it was working before, or simply do nothing, we can't say.

Also, you can now find Viscera Cleanup in the Steam Client's Server Browser too, which may help some people connect.

No one wishes network connections would work more than me, but it's just not that simple, and sadly we've done our best.

Secondly, the other main issue a lot of you have had has been vanishing items when using the Janitor Trunk. A truly frustrating thing. Good news is I think we've fixed that after writing an entirely new system for it, one I believe will be very reliable.

Thirdly, we're easing off active development now, and have been since v1.07 but forgot to mention it in announcements. This just means we don't plan to add anymore features to the game, but will continue to do bug fixes, update the OSX version, and generally support the community.

We're moving onto another project now, one that holds promise, and hope to have a releasable version sometime in the future, so stay tuned for that!
That being said, we may very well make more stuff for VCD down the line if the mood strikes us.

Right, that's that wordy bit out of the way, onto the change-log!

    Maps:
  • Added Reverb processing to Incubation Emergency.

    Game:
  • Overhauled the trophy collection and trunk transfer systems, hopefully resolving the duplication and vanishing item issues once and for all.
  • Fixed players being awarded for entering numbers into the incident report form counter boxes when those items don't even appear in the level.
  • Fixed "Pedestrian" achievement being updated on every bloody player footstep; now does it every 30.
  • Fixed worker heads from Incubation Emergency and Frostbite not counting toward "Head Hunter" achievement.
  • Fixed levels without mess --such as workshop level "Sanitation Training"-- from causing radical completion scores for players, potentially firing them.

    Multiplayer:
  • Added Viscera Cleanup to the Steam Client Server Browser.
  • Made several experimental changes that 'may' improve network connectivity.
  • Fixed clients' Always Run setting being overridden by the server, resulting in very "steppy" movement.

    House of Horror:
  • Made the Woodchipper kill clumsy players.
  • Made Jacko Lanterns cause the fleshy Woodchipper grind-sound, and not the metallic one.

    Santa's Rampage:
  • Fixed full elf corpses being oddly offset in the level.

    Workshop:
  • Added support for creating custom punchout definitions; allows you to decide what counts as mess and what notes to receive. You can now create entirely new variations.
  • Light Bulb mountings can now be toggled on and off by Kismet.
  • Added Sand-Trap collision object to GP_Digsite
  • Added four TGA files to the game directory that can be used as Level Preview Image templates.

And there we have it, thanks everyone and enjoy!

Updated to v1.075

Howdy!

We've all been down and out with flu the last two weeks, hence the delay, but we have a small update this week to fix a couple issues. Read on!

    Maps:
  • Fixed glitchy Medkit on the wall near bin machine in Incubation Emergency.
  • Changed average length estimate for Incubation Emergency from 2 hours to 3 hours.
  • Fixed "Military" being a valid answer for Incubation Emergency's punchout report forms, as there was no military presence.

    Game:
  • The "Secret Item" that burns and melts stuff now also burns Creep and Biomass.
  • Fixed mouse cursor being frozen, usually upon entering the "Options Menu".
  • Fixed P.I.Ds with random names coming out blank on the punchout report forms if the P.I.Ds are from a loaded save-game.

    UI:
  • Fixed Debriefing screen stamp showing "Granted" in the event that you make a truly terrible mess, instead of "Company Liquidated".

    Shadow Warrior:
  • Shadow Warrior Briefcase lid no longer gets duplicated upon returning it to the office.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Incubation Emergency:

Oh hey, and a reminder that Viscera Cleanup Detail's Workshop has grown quite nicely since its inception. Here are just some of the cool things our community has made, so check it out: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=704523369

And there we go! Enjoy, everyone!

Update V1.06 live!

Hey hey!

We live again! Back from our break from the grind-stone, and now returning to the fray. Stuff was a little slow this month because it's February; tax/biz/accounting month.. But that's getting done so we can continue dev work.

We're working on the merge of the Shadow Warrior spinoff, a new map and more fixes and similar for coming updates. Hopefully those won't take too long. Anyway, here are the fixes for v1.06!

    Maps:
  • Fixed the cave tunnel in Frostbite causing objects to glitch out of existence.
  • Fixed obstructed doors sometimes jamming in Evil Science, Caduceus and Cryogenesis.
  • Fixed Frostbite report forms expecting the "estimated dead alien entities" counter to be 0.

    Game:
  • Fixed elusive item duplication bug upon returning to the office.
  • Improved the way punchout report forms calculate the bonus for "estimate counters".
  • Fixed "estimated dead alien entities" counter on the punchout report form being able to drastically massacre your score if high numbers are entered.
  • Fixed Incinerator being bloodied by dirty mops.
  • Fixed issue causing you to be awarded the "Clean Freak" achievement for visiting the office first time from another level.

    UI:
  • Added link to Viscera Cleanup Detail Wiki on Main Menu.

Not exactly sure when the next update will be, because the merge will probably take a bit of time. However, there may be other smaller updates before then, such as the new map and some fixes.

We'll be starting to move onto other projects as we go through the year as well. Prototypes to make, others to flesh out, etc.

Enjoy, everyone!

V1.05 update, Frostbite, and some time off at last!

Hey hey!

Update v1.05 is live right now, and includes the new map, "Frostbite", along with a couple fixes.

The new map is small/medium in size, and quite well lit for the most part. A new achievement for cleaning it up has also been added.

Changelog:

    Maps:
  • Added new Frostbite level!
  • Expanded the Trophy storage area in the Janitor Office.
  • Fixed a stacking zone in Revolutionary Robotics not counting OmniCorp boxes.

    Game:
  • Added the option for hosts to prevent other players from changing anything in the host's Office. See "Lock Punchout Machine" game rule.
  • Players no longer need to gather collectibles on their own to get the achievements.

    UI:
  • Added Icons to the launch menu's map list to make it easy to tell the difference between official maps and workshop maps.
  • Added a "Kick Player" menu to the mid-game GUI, allowing hosts to kick unwanted players from their game.

    Santa's Rampage:
  • Fixed a physics issue with some of the Elf bodies.
  • Added Brooms to Santa's Workshop.

Right then! And with that, we'll be taking some time off at long last. We'll be keeping an eye on stuff as always, but otherwise we won't be working unless something is horrifically broken :P We shall return in late January/ early February, where we shall merge the Shadow Warrior spinoff and complete various fixes. Also one other map that I wanted to add, but didn't quite have the time to finish..
We'll be getting into new projects gradually then. Some cool stuff happening at Castle RuneStorm!

Lastly, and most importantly; a big ol' thank you to everyone who has helped us out over the last couple years! Thanks for playing VCD, for giving us feedback, contributing to the Workshop and community (and Wikia!) and of course, posting those screenshots!

Enjoy the holidays everyone! Seeya soon!

PS: It's worth noting that VCD is currently discounted for the Steam holiday sale!

V1.04: Santa's Rampage merge, Mac news, fixes, more!

Hey hey!

Apologies for the delay on this update, but we had upload troubles over the weekend (it was supposed to be due up on Friday night..) :\

At any rate, it's up now! The big news is that we've merged in our spinoff, 'Santa's Rampage'! The standalone Santa's Rampage will be update shortly as well, but needs some more work first. Along with that, we've got more fixes and tweaks, etc.

Now there is also some news of the Mac build. If you have VCD, you can access the Mac build by heading into the Beta's tab of VCD (Steam client -> right click on Viscera Cleanup Detail -> Properties -> Beta's) and entering the code: "ZeTrollPatch". If you're on a Mac, you can give that a shot :)

Right then, onto the changelog!

  • Merged in Santa's Rampage!

    Maps:
  • Improved the spawn locations for Employee of the Month pictures in the office; they should glitch less.
  • Fixed the door console in the 17 digit code room in the Janitor Office from being partially stuck in the door-frame.
  • Improved the weight of Hydroponic Hell weeds and "Pus Pods".

    Game:
  • Made player character animations twist to face where they are aiming.
  • Added new third person player animations for: Running with hands, Holding MuckGyver, Firing Welder, and Forward Mopping.
  • Removed various Key bindings that are not meant to be in use from the default listings.
  • Added a female "Employee of the Month" picture.
  • Added female Janitor gibs.
  • Made Janitor gibs match the actual skin of the now dead player.
  • Made blown-up players leave a large blood splat on the floor.
  • Fixed the Janitor Trunk duplicating objects when you repeatedly punch-out of the same saved game session.
Consequently, you can no longer take an item from the same save session to the office multiple times.
  • Fixed "Bob Door" not opening all the way.
  • Fixed hydroponic Weeds and "Pus-Pods" not casting shadows.
  • Fixed hatches and actors such as toilet seats, stall doors and etc from behaving very poorly on clients during network games.
  • Fixed an issue that may have resulted in an incorrect performance assessment if the game session was not yet saved.

    UI:
  • Fixed "Personal Data Assistant" caption overlapping the options in the Controls Menu.

    Horror DLC:
  • Fixed toilet seats behaving poorly on clients.
  • Fixed tree leaves having collision.
  • Added broken pieces for glassware, vases and ceramics. You are now punished for leaving these lying around instead of for just breaking things.
  • Fixed map briefing overshooting the Janitor PDA's text area.
  • Improved doors opening in a very "steppy" manner on clients.
  • Fixed Altar book being stuck.

That's that for now! We've got a bit more planned before our end-of-year time off, such as hopefully getting the Santa standalone updated as well, a new map and probably a few more fixes. More on that soon though I guess.
Have fun!

Patch update v1.03

Howdy!

So, we're continuing to work on bits and pieces that need it as we head towards the end of the year. The merger of the spin-off versions should be happening soon and we'll report on progress with that as we go. With luck it won't take more than a couple weeks. Along with the merger, the stand-alone titles will be updated.
Also, the Mac build continues it's testing and with luck(and depending on test results) we should be able to have something more concrete on that next week.

Oh! I'm also planning an extra map or two for VCD for the end of the year. They'll be free updates to the main game, fear not. I have two ideas specifically I'd like to create :)

Anyway! Here is the changelog:

    Maps:
  • Fixed a stuck intestine in the Unearthly Excavation cave.
  • Added P.I.Ds for the skinned bodies in Overgrowth.

    Game:
  • Expanded the Big Banger radio song "Darkwash".
  • Improved Worker bodies being too heavy to hold in a reasonable manner.
  • Improved Body Bags being too heavy to hold in a reasonable manner.
  • Improved Cryogenesis alien bodies being too heavy to hold in a reasonable manner.
  • Improved Paintenance tentacles being too heavy to hold in a reasonable manner.
  • Improved Suit Worker bodies being too heavy to hold in a reasonable manner.
  • Changed the lifespan of chat messages displayed on-screen from 3 seconds to 10.
  • Separated the "Activate" and "Rotate" behaviours of held objects. You can now rotate an object without activating it; ie: Dynamite, Lanterns, Flares, etc.

    Horror DLC:
  • Fixed "Head Hunter" achievement not being affected by the human heads found in the House of Horror DLC.
  • Improved the Cheerleader and Jock bodies being too heavy to hold in a reasonable manner.
  • Fixed Horror collectible achievements not working when entering the office from anywhere other than the House of Horror level.
  • Added reverb sound processing to House of Horror level.
  • Improved semi-stuck book and note on the "Altar".

    UI:
  • Added "Use All Songs" setting to Audio menu, allowing the "Big Banger" to play all songs and not just the ones relevent to the currently selected spin-off/DLC.
  • Fixed the "Switch Game" dialog not having proper key-navigation.

    Workshop:
  • Fixed "Save Game System" kismet event not working.
  • Fixed "Set Global Stat" and "Get Global Stat" kismet events not working properly.

    Soundtrack:
  • Added 'Darkwash' to the Soundtrack.
  • Used appropriate cover art for Santa and Horror songs.

Have a good weekend everyone!
