ViveSpray 2

Update: Online wall

The online wall feature for the factory environment is now available in the default version of ViveSpray, no need to switch to the testing branch any more.

To try it out, go to the factory, you'll find the UI on the back wall between the large windows along with an explanation of how it works.

Online Walls: Prototype feature available on public testing branch

An online wall may be occupied by clicking the "Online" button. Only one person can occupy a wall at once. If you successfully occupy a wall, you can work on it, then hit save. The next person to occupy the wall will see any work you did and can in turn also work on the wall. Just like a real wall.

The first "Online Wall" has been enabled on the public testing branch for the factory environment. The interface can be found on the back wall where the huge windows are.

Right now this feature is experimental and may, or may not make it to the stable branch but my hopes are very high it will. The sooner this feature is put through it's paces the sooner I can extend it to the other environments so more walls are available for people to work on before finally releasing it.

I also recommend for now that you keep younger children away from this feature and the testing branch in general as users will no doubt create content unsuitable for younger players. Obviously a warning will be added before the feature is released.

Small fix

The new rift support caused an incorrectly rotated can for left handed Vive users. It's now fixed.

Update: Masking and improved Rift support

A new masking can has been added. You can use it to mask parts of the wall from being painted on. The mask can be inverted and cleared. It's a simple but very powerful tool and it's worth investing some time to get to grips with it.

Early Rift support has also been added and ViveSpray is now perfectly playable on Rift, however there will probably be further updates to make it more comfortable. Until then I recommend avoiding teleportation with the hand you're holding something in as it will be dropped. Instead just use your off-hand.

Upcoming patch

The next patch will add Oculus Rift support and introduce a new masking can. Should be out shortly after the weekend.

Small update

Just a small update with a couple of changes:

  • Factory wall textures replaced by large, unique textures to avoid repetition
  • Added setting for "Always Freeze Cans to Air" in options menu
