Weekly #28 - Girl or Boy?

GIRL OR BOY?





Today it is a very special news I want to share with you. My wife and I are going to have our first baby early next year, and we finally know if it will be a Girl or a Boy. We made a small Mixed Reality video inside VR Furballs - Demolition to spread the news ;)

GAME UPDATE





Today is a bit special because I only updated the BETA version of the full game. To access this BETA version, sync to the "beta-public" branch on Steam, which you can access with the password "WeAreBetaFurballs". It is a minor update because all the efforts from last week were to support the Oculus store for an upcoming release of the game there. Here is the list of what changed in the BETA version:

  • New: Added a temporary Benchmark tool in the game to ask you to help me gather some hardware benchmarking data that will help me to set the initial Graphics settings properly.
  • Bugfix: Fixed wrong foreground clipping plane in LIV Mixed Reality causing the objects to not go in front / behind you correctly.

Weekly #27 - Key Art rework

Every week, I'll post a "Weekly update" to let you know what is going on in the colorful world of VR Furballs. This is the episode 27 :)


KEY ART REWORK





VR Furballs - Demolition is slowly getting ready for its big full release day. Besides the last missing levels, the last big missing piece is better marketing material (Key Art, videos, screenshots, etc...). The Key Art asset of the game is being reworked by a super talented artist. What you can see above is a very early sketch. I can't wait to see the result :)


GAME UPDATE





Earlier today I updated both the Full Version and the Demo of the game with the following changes:

  • New: Added a Trophy inside the game to celebrate the brave Achievement Hunters. FunkeyMonkeyTTR was the first player to manage to get all the Achievements in the DEMO of the game. So his name is in there now.
  • Improvement: Levels load without stalling the game anymore (the difference is very obvious in big levels).
  • Improvement: Game sound is now always playing (even when the window is not focused).
  • Improvement: DEMO end panel was reworked to display the Key Features of the Full Game, along with a "BUY NOW" button.
  • Bugfix: New "Arcade Settings Editor" settings were not working in most cases.

Achievement Hunters

Dear Achievement Hunters,

VR Furballs - Demolition is a game made for you! The game features 54 Levels that you will need to master to get all the Achievements.


HOW?



First you will have to get the 3 Stars for each Level, which is harder than it looks. Then you will have to complete every Level again with each of the 7 Weapons available in the game. For example, these are the 8 Achievements of the World 0 - Level 1...




WHY?



As a reward for their achievement, those who manage to get all the Achievements of the game will see their name added inside the game.



The same applies to the DEMO version of the game. FunkeymonkeyTTR was the first player to get all the Achievements in the DEMO. This means you can now see his name in the DEMO of the game!


GOOD LUCK



Once you got all the Achievements, come tell us, either by adding a comment below, or on Discord. Your achievement will then be verified before you can get your name added in the game.

Weekly #26 - 4 Levels away

WHAT'S LEFT





Three new levels have been added in the game today (big thanks to BOLL who built 3 of them and inspired me for the last one). The game is now just missing 4 Levels to be complete. Other than that, the Steam page will get a small update with new pictures / videos before the full release. The game might also be released simultaneously on the Oculus and the Viveport stores.


GAME UPDATE





Earlier today I updated both the Full Version and the Demo of the game with the following changes:

  • New: Added World 1 - Level 2: "The Art".
  • New: Added World 2 - Level 2: "The Skyline".
  • New: Added World 2 - Level 5: "The Balloon Factory".
  • New: Added World 3 - Level 4: "The Dish".
  • New: Added loading screen.
  • New: Arcade: Added an "Arcade Settings Editor" tool that lets Arcade owners set the settings of the game conveniently.
  • Improvement: Boosted throw force.
  • Improvement: Boosted Head bounce force.
  • Improvement: Enlarged Head capsule (so that the area where it bounce straight is a bit wider than before).
  • Improvement: Faster loading of the game. A loading screen should show up just a few seconds after launching the game.
  • Bugfix: Fixed Teachy could break the rebuilt level while hiding.

Weekly #25 - Almost there!

GAMESCOM





We had a nice 3 days trip to Cologne to attend the Gamescom as a trade visitor last week. Gamescom is sooo huge! Very impressive! Perhaps VR Furballs will be there with a proper booth one day :)


START TO PLAY





I was demoing VR Furballs at the Start To Play festival in Strasbourg last weekend. It was great! Hundreds of people had the chance to try the game (mostly the mini-games). And everyone loved it! It was mostly VR first timers. They were lucky to try VR for the first time with VR Furballs (and not some crazy roller coaster experience that would have made them think VR is just good at making people sick)...


GAME UPDATE





Earlier today I updated both the Full Version and the Demo of the game with the following changes:

  • New: Added World 3 - Level 9: "The Bouncy Castle" (big thanks to LionXV for the help/inspiration for this level).
  • New: Added an Ad panel in the Level Editor area that leads to the How To video.
  • New: Added a fake cylinder shadow for Mixed Reality player.
  • Improvement: Tools you're holding won't be destroyed anymore when you navigate between Levels.
  • Improvement: Improved Furballs location when holding them with an Oculus Touch controller (a bit more front).
  • Improvement: Improved Furballs throwing.
  • Improvement: Replaced Sliders by Knobs in the Settings because they were too hard to fine tune.
  • Improvement: Paused the game when opening Oculus menu.
  • Bugfix: Fixed lost or flying Furball when carrying one and teleporting in the Obs area at the same time.
  • Bugfix: Fixed hit sounds looping for objects continuously hitting each other.
  • Bugfix: Updated LIV plugin (fixes the flickering).

Weekly #24 - Gamescom (Cologne) & Start To Play (Strasbourg)

GAMESCOM & START TO PLAY





Two big video games events will be held between August 21 and 26. First in Cologne, Germany, the Gamescom. I will be there on Tuesday August 21 (day reserved for the trade visitors) to hopefully meet some interesting people that could help VR Furballs :)

Second event will be in Strasbourg, France. It is the Start To Play festival. I will be showcasing VR Furballs - Demolition there from Friday August 24 to Sunday August 26. If you live near Strasbourg, come say "bonjour"!


GAME UPDATE





Earlier today I updated both the Full Version and the Demo of the game with the following changes:

  • New: Added World 5 - Level 3: "The Mess". Big thanks to kylatae who submitted this level during the Level Creation Contest.
  • Improvement: Shortened time taken to build the level, so that you can retry levels faster.
  • Improvement: Improved "Bouncy Walls" or "Bouncers" look and animated them (exit the yellow and black checkboard, hello the pink bubbles). See screenshot below.
  • Bugfix: Fixed Level instability after they got built (due to weird physics hit notifications at that moment that are now ignored).
  • Bugfix: Fixed Fans that are supposed to be OFF at start accidentally pushing and killing Baddies at Level start because they were starting ON and turning OFF slowly instead of starting completely OFF.
  • Bugfix: Fixed Level Victory panel still showing off after you left the Level if you leave the Level right before it is supposed to show off (not 100% sure it cannot happen anymore though).
  • Bugfix: Fixed Teachy going out from behing the pillar sometimes when he shouldn't.

Weekly #23 - First player created levels in the game

FIRST PLAYER CREATED LEVELS IN THE GAME





This week, one first level from the levels created by the players during the Early Access Level Creation Contest made it in the game: "The Kraken". It is the World 4 - Level 7. Big thanks to shane4games for this amazing level!



Another huge thanks to shane4games who actually keeps building levels. The second level added in the game this week is also from him. He called this one "Mission Furpossible". You'll find it in the game as the World 5 - Level 4!

Earlier today I updated the Full Version of the game with the following changes:

  • New: Added World 4 - Level 7: The Kraken.
  • New: Added World 5 - Level 4: Mission Furpossible.
  • Improvement: Always go back to the center of the main War and Level Editor areas when you teleport back to it from the other side.
  • Improvement: Use a Capsule instead of a Sphere as collision for the Head (will help hitting the Furball straight).

NEW PRICE



The price of VR Furballs - Demolition increased at the beginning of the week to give the game the premium image it deserves. It is now tagged at 14.99 US dollars or 12.49 euros. There will be a launch discount when the game gets out of Early Access in a couple of weeks, so for now you might want to just hit the "Add to wishlist" button ;)


GAME UPDATE





Earlier today I updated the Full Version and the Demo Version of the game with the following changes:

  • New: Added a special French colors Furball to celebrate the World Cup champions. Did you know that the Furballs are really coming from France?
  • New: Added an auto-use-mushrooms toggle in Level Editor (at the bottom of the Step 2 - Build tower on the table) that will make you a Giant when you go build, and back to normal when you come back.
  • Improvement: Replaced old and not-easily accessible Teleport Rings by new Teleport Rings to navigate between the Home, War and Build zones.
  • Improvement: Removed the Teleport Rings to navigate to and from the Level Observation and the Level Editor areas, and replaced them by the Short Range Controller teleportation (press the thumbpad on the Vive controllers, or the A button on the Oculus Touch controllers).
  • Improvement: Allowed Short Range Controller teleportation in every playable area.
  • Improvement: DEMO - Let players skip the levels after 3 failed attempts.
  • Improvement: DEMO - Fixed lock icon on locked Mini-games being an unlocked lock icon.
  • Improvement: DEMO - Show Ads panel all the time in the fight area.
