TONY DUGAN TAKES 2018 WORLDS TITLE RALLY-X SPEC
Tony Dugan from the US has claimed victory at the 2018 VRC Worlds for 1:8 electric Rally-X Spec class at the new VRC Dirt 2 track. This must have been one of the closest contested finals event in VRC history.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omXTJueAQ9s
It was Ely Rojas who led most of the 10 minute final but he was challenged by Dugan, Yeung and Berman who were always within striking distance, most of the final within a second. Rojas took very tight lines in the switch back hairpins using the dirt edge, and got away 34 of his 35 laps, but in lap 29 he took the hairpin too tight and rolled the car. That gave the other 3 a break of 2 seconds and despite some very fast laps he was not able to close the gap anymore with the 3 front runners. The race was now between Dugan, Yeung and Berman. Dugan increased the pace and was able to cross the finish line first to earn a well deserved VRC Worlds title.

Historic race
Just in case you missed it...
In Round 2 of the 2018 Season 2 series for nitro buggies at Psycho Nitro Blast 2012 we saw the closest 3-way finish ever recorded in VRC history, with Team Associated team driver Tom Rinderknecht (US) coming out on top just 0.031 seconds ahead of Marshal Kirkholm (US), and 0.071 seconds ahead of Robert Hillman from Sweden. Hillman led most of the race but was passed in the final stretch from the Works wall to the finish line.
This historic race deserves a great video. As always, the commentary of LiveRC announcer Mike Garrison adds another level of excitement to this race.

2018 VRC Worlds
The 2018 VRC WORDS are integrated in the Season 1 Series events. These events are awarded with extra points for the Series, Spec Worlds will get Level 3 points, and Modified class Worlds are Level 5 events! So besides the World Chamionship titles there are a lot of extra points to be earned for the Season 1 Series.
This new format for the VRC Worlds will be evaluated after Season 1. The plan is to focus the VRC Worlds events for Season 2 in the last 6 weeks of the year like we have done in the past.
Already 2 VRC Worlds have been held this year, the 2018 VRC Worlds Rally-X Modified class won by multiple VRC champion Martin Wollanka from Austria, and 1:10 Nitro Sedans Spec class, won by another VRC champ Joshua Berman from the USA. Currently we are running 1:10 electric Touringscars Modified class at Kissimmee Short in Florida.

ANGER WINS RALLYX SPEC WORLDS, ROJAS LOOSES IT...
In an eventful 10 minute final, French Geatan Anger has won the 2017 title RallyX Spec in Pro class after a fierce battle with hot favorite and TQ Ely Rojas. Rojas took an early lead closely followed by Anger and Hillman until he smacked the car into a pylon in the second chicane in lap 9. Rojas charged hard to get back to the front. He took back the lead in lap 18 and looked poised to take the title but 2 laps before the end he misjudged the big jump on the backstraight, tumbled over several times, spun out again and had to let Anger and also Hillman by who were waiting for that one mistake.
