• St-Chamond — the tracer on the AP shell has been replaced with a smoke trail.
 • AML-90 and AMX-13-90 group icon has been corrected. (Report).

Patch notes reflect only key changes, meaning they may not include a complete list of all improvements made. Additionally, War Thunder is constantly being updated and some changes may not require an update. Changes reflected in patch notes are formed by taking reactions and requests of the community from the bug reporting service, forums and other official platforms into account. Bug fixes and changes are implemented in order of importance, for example a game-breaking bug will be worked on and implemented sooner.

Sound

 • H.P.12 — incorrect engine sound has been fixed.

Patch notes reflect only key changes, meaning they may not include a complete list of all improvements made. Additionally, War Thunder is constantly being updated and some changes may not require an update. War Thunder Esports in 2025: The Beginning Of A New Era

Today, we’re excited to announce the start of a new page in history for War Thunder Esports with the arrival of a professional league! April 2025 marks the start of the War Thunder Championships Series (WTCS), a league comprising four major events throughout 2025.

In this news, we’ll be explaining how this league will work, how you can take part, and the schedule of events!

Welcome to a new competitive era. #WTCS!

Plans For This Year

Major Events Explained

All major events have a duration of 8 days, split into 3 stages, including 4 days of Open Qualifiers, 3 days of Play Offs and 1 day of for the Final. All tournaments will be in a double-elimination format.

Open Qualifier

Each major event will be preceded by 2 weekends of Open Qualifiers (four days), allowing anyone to create a team and qualify for the rest of the competition.

The top four teams in each Open Qualifier will book their place in the Play Off phases of the major event.

As soon as a team passes the Open Qualifier phases, it will automatically score points for them.

Major I: Titan 5v5 [Bo5]

The first major of the year takes place in a 5v5 mixed format. We want to challenge the versatility of players in this competition, as they’ll be made to play tanks and planes in the same battle.

Major II: Armored Apex 4v4 [Bo5]

The second major takes place in a 4v4 format with top tier tanks on a wide variety of maps. This major is made for armor lovers who combine strategy and patience.

Major III: Air Superiority 4v4 [Bo7]

The best pilots are invited to compete in a 4v4 jet format for this third major of the year, featuring unusual maps and the latest generation aircraft.

During these 3 majors, the line-ups will showcase the latest vehicles added to the game.

Grand Final: Thunder Cup

Thunder Cup is considered to be War Thunder’s most legendary tournament. It brings together all the major formats in a single competition. In other words, during the 3 weekends of Thunder Cup, you’ll have the chance to play in tanks, planes and mixed to find the best team of this first season of the WTCS.

How do I take part in the WTCS?

To participate in this league, you’ll need to build a roster of 8 players.

One week before the start of the Open Qualifier, there will be an announcement allowing you to create your team on our tournament platform: TSS (link)

If your team manages to qualify during the Open Qualifier, the announced roster must be the same for the play-off phases. No player changes will be possible.

As soon as a team starts to score points for the whole season, its roster will be locked. However, the team will have the option to change 2 players between each major event, and must inform the organization accordingly.

Note: The roster lock does not apply to non-qualified teams. You must pass the Qualification stage in any Major of the year.

The 8 finalist teams who accumulate the most Thunder points during the season will qualify for the Thunder Cup Grand Final, in November 2025. The 8 finalist teams will be made up of a roster of 9 players.

To be eligible for the final roster, each player must have participated in at least one major event during the season, regardless of ranking.

At the end of the “Air Superiority” major event in September, the final qualifying teams will be asked to provide a full list of 9 players for the Thunder CUP Grand Final.

How do I score Thunder Points?

The main way to earn points is directly linked to the overall ranking of each major. In fact, the higher a team is ranked in a major, the more points they will earn. As an indication, here is the number of points related to placements:

If two or more teams finish with the same total Thunder Points after all tournaments, the following tie-breaking criteria will be applied in order:

 • Results of head-to-head matches between tied teams in all tournaments.
 • Number of dominant wins (3-0 matches).

The same point system will be applied in the Thunder Cup Grand Final.

Winning is important, but how you win now matters even more. The new system introduces additional points based on match results to reward dominant victories and penalize heavy losses.

 • A 3-0 sweep will now grant +3 extra points, while a 0-3 defeat will deduct 3 points.
 • Close wins (3-2) provide +1 point, while narrow losses (2-3) result in a -1 point.

This system ensures that teams pushing for decisive victories will gain an edge, making every round count.

Rewards and Cash Prizes

Prizes for each event will be announced in advance for each Major. Prizes include a total of over 400,000 Golden Eagles distributed at each major event, exclusive Esports skins of the WTCS series, some unique and rare titles and vehicle coupons linked to each major event. Thanks to our sponsors, you’ll also have the opportunity to win unique War Thunder branded material prizes during the year!

War Thunder: The Great War!

Wallpapers: 1920x1080, 2560x1440, 3840x2160

“The situation is getting worse by the day. In the morning we were under heavy bombardment, and in the evening we got bitten by large rats in the trenches. We were ordered to go over top into no man’s land, where many of my friends were gunned down. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I have heard we lost 50 men in a mere few minutes. We are sacrificing so many for just a few feet of land, if that. The war has been raging for 4 years now, and today I saw the latest armored behemoth modifications roll forward and planes fly over and thought to myself: surely the end is in sight — I feel I am close to coming home to you now.” – letter from an Unknown Soldier, KIA, 1918.

Welcome to The Great War in War Thunder!

When: From April 1st until April 7th (11:00 GMT), play in “The Great War” mode and complete stages to get and keep First World War vehicles!

The year is 1918. The war between the Entente and Central Powers is raging on in its final year. Soldiers fight on, tanks have made their debut on the battlefield, and planes dogfight in the sky. You have been enlisted to fight for your country. Gear up, new conscript!

This event takes you back to the brutal battlefields of the Western Front in Flanders during the First World War. Command the first tanks to have ever gone into combat and dogfight in the skies with aircraft, or immerse yourself by piloting a Zeppelin airship, capable of bombing enemy targets. An event like this wouldn’t be complete without AI infantry, who roam around the trenches and in no man’s land at the front line.

Brief history of the First World War
The First World War, also known as The Great War, was a conflict that lasted from July 28th, 1914 to November 11th, 1918 between the Entente and Central Powers. Known as one of, if not the bloodiest wars in history, the war was fought in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the Pacific and more.

Some of the main European battles happened in Belgium and France through trench warfare, which were some of the most gruesome places for a soldier to fight in. This war also saw the first combat use of tanks, in particular the British Mk I Male, during the Battle of the Somme. The first major use of aircraft in combat also happened during the First World War.

The armistice was signed on November 11th, 1918 at the eleventh hour, marking the end of the war after nearly 5 years. Over 9 million soldiers had been killed.

Play in the event & complete stages to keep some iconic First World War vehicles!

You have the opportunity to complete stages and earn yourself some iconic First World War tanks and a bomber aircraft. These are added to your tech tree after you obtain them, meaning you can keep and use them in regular battles, even after the event ends!

This event features a special difficulty mode where the mobility of the tanks has been improved relative to their real characteristics. The tanks that can be obtained in this event will have their historical speed and maneuverability when using them in regular Ground Realistic Battles.

You can get mission points in the “The Great War” event using the Triple Entente and German Empire. Access the event through Events and Tournaments -> Historical Events -> The Great War.

Rewards

The Triple Entente and German Empire have six stages each. One stage per side can be completed each day. To get all of the vehicles, complete 5 stages for each side!
Each stage for each side will be unlocked for 5,000 mission points and will bring a new reward.

Stages change once a day at 11:00 GMT: April 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th.

While the fighters are not obtainable in this event, in the future you’ll be able to try them in our VR game, Aces of Thunder!

In addition to the rewards below, you can play at least one battle with an activity of 70% or higher to get the “The Great War” loading screen!

The aircraft took to the skies on April 4th 1917 and remained in service in France until 1923.

This biplane fighter has a wooden propeller, two British Vickers 7.7 mm machine guns and a top speed of over 200 km/h.

The German A7V tank was first produced in 1918. The A7V first saw combat in April 1918 at Villers-Bretonneux. Only 22 were built and just one survives to this day, nicknamed “Mephisto” at the Australian War Memorial in Australia.

This tank features 15-30 mm of armor, one 5.7 cm cannon at the front, six machine guns and a top speed of around 12 km/h.
The British Mk.IV tank was captured by the Germans, repainted with German camouflage and markings that included the Iron Cross, and went back into combat. Germany designated captured tanks as “Beutepanzer” (“captured tank”).

Did you know? The Germans had more trophy tanks in service than their own domestic design!

This tank is almost identical to the British one, except the speed is slower, and the guns are the same from the ones from the A7V.
A limited number, around five, Russian Garford-Putilov’s were captured by the Germans and the MGs were changed.

The Germans designated captured tanks as “Beutepanzer” (“captured tank”).

This tank has identical weaponry (except the MGs), armor and speed as the Russian one.

The German Fokker D.VII is considered one of the best German fighters of the First World War. This aircraft had a metal frame, allowing it to withstand higher overloads in flight. It began entering service with the Imperial German Air Force in 1918 and more than 3,000 were produced before the end of the war. In addition to Germany, the Fokker D.VII was later in service with many countries, including Belgium, the Netherlands, the USSR and USA.

This biplane features a mixed construction, characterized by high resistance to overloads and allowing for good maneuverability. The aircraft’s armament is standard, featuring a pair of rifle-caliber machine guns synchronized with the engine.

Take control of a Zeppelin!

Zeppelins were used by Germany during the First World War. Inflated with hydrogen gas, they were mainly used as reconnaissance but were also equipped with bombs for use against military targets and cities in France and Britain.

Used by the German Empire in the event, you can use this flying behemoth and drop 14 x 300 kg SC AG bombs on enemies and fire with 7.92 mm machine guns. Lead from a zeppelin!

Battle it out in Flanders

Flanders is an area of Belgium where some of the bloodiest battles of the First World War took place. Featuring an intense layout of trenches, bunkers, barbed wire, gun entrenchments and a neutral area known as no man’s land, the Triple Entente and German Empire will pit against each other on this barren landscape. What was once peaceful fields has now turned into a bloody battle for a mere few yards of land. “In Flanders Fields, the poppies blow” - John McCrae

AI infantry in the trenches

Infantry played a major role during the First World War. Trenches were muddy and wet, rats roamed around and “trench foot” was rampant. Most soldiers had no choice but to go over the top of the trenches into no man’s land on first command, to then get gunned down or shelled with little to no gain for their side. “The most appalling conditions met the men as they endeavoured to cross No Man’s Land.” – Extract from The Wipers Times, Third Wipers 1917

AI infantry roam the trenches and are a target while in your tank and plane. The British and German soldiers wear authentic uniforms from the time period and also charge into no man’s land. They can fire back at you and throw grenades, so watch out! Taking out one AI infantry will yield 5 mission points, up to a maximum of 500 mission points per battle (100 soldiers), helping to contribute to stage tasks.

Infantry and Expanded Tech Trees in War Thunder!

Introducing a revolutionary update! The long awaited and highly requested addition of infantry to the battlefields of War Thunder is finally here!

We’re always striving to push the boundaries of our game — an online military combat simulator that brings to life legendary weaponry from various eras. That’s why War Thunder is about to grow not only in depth with the introduction of armored vehicles and aircraft from World War I, but also in scale, with infantry now joining the fight!

What does this mean?

Very soon, a large-scale closed beta test of infantry will begin. We’ll share more details about the tech trees, weaponry, gear, and gameplay features in future devblogs. But in THE NEXT 24 HOURS, you'll have your first chance to take part in test battles featuring infantry during a special event dedicated to World War I.

It’s time to see war from a completely new perspective. You’re already familiar with the devastating power of machines — on land, in the sky, and at sea. But everything is about to change when infantry, the true decisive force of the battlefield, finally enters the fray.
Get ready for all new battles like you’ve never seen before, and stay tuned for updates.

Forward, soldiers!
