So as you can probably tell this Steam post is MUCH different than past ones (a lot less words and bullet points and sadly... GIFS).
These posts used to take me pretty long to write, and some of the feedback I got was that people didnt really care much about the bullet points. SO I've cut all those out and swapped them for a video... and thats pretty much it? But I'm not sold on it... so PLEASE tell me what you like best, or maybe some other games who's posts you like to look at? Or even if you prefer reading this somewhere else! (just Discord etc)
Questions for you
1. Is this new format s a good change?
2. Is there something from the old posts that you want to see again? Bug fixes/lists and their finders? GIFS?
3. Did you watch any of the update video or just kinda look at it and go... meh? I really want to make these posts fun to look at and easy to take in, so any advice you have, I'm all ears :D
Introducing the Tactical Build menu! :D press and hold 'T' to open the tactical build menu. From here you can call in troops, place structures and I'm still trying to figure out what the 3rd thing should be :P
I gotta say... this tactical build menu is REALLY bringing the game into a new direction. One that I'm pumped to say is super in line with what I hope the game to be, and after playing with it, I hope you'll think so TOO! :D there's some issues to work out with it, but give it a play and let me know what you think! :D
Here's my big questions
What would be some other fun things to build? Traps? Ladders? Trampolines?
I'm thinking there should be another resource that you build things with. How does something like 'supplies' sound? Trying to stay away from having to collect things like wood, stone, rope separately, and instead just have one type of resource :)
There needs to be a way to place larger blocks of troops, I'm thinking of making the scroll wheel toggle the size of the 'army block' you can place? (1 troop, 4 troops, 10 troops, 20 etc)
The menu has 3 button categories, and I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the last one (it's a flag icon right now. My first thought was have it be special 'Troop Commands', like calling for a volley of arrows or a trebuchet strike etc. Which I think would be rad :D OR I'm thinking of splitting up the build category into offensive things and defensive things (traps vs barriers etc)

Thanks again for scrolling all the way down here to read the hidden paragraph :P I'm super excited for everyone to play this update :D I think its going to drastically change the way the game plays, and for the better :) let me know some ideas of things you think should be in the build menu or improvements to it! I really am kind of stuck haha :D
I know, you're probably sick of seeing new world maps ;) but let me tell you! After countless sketches, book raiding and 146 chrome tabs later... I present to you what I believe is a MUCH better map for the world of Warcube! :D What it also means is that some of the other factions will ultimately have to have their own islands in the future. But after lots of research I've found this is probably the best option. Not only is it more realistic, but it also helps with being able to really solidify faction culture and consolidate the game a little more :) Definitely let me know what you think about it!

Apart from the new map, there's quite a few other fun things in the works :D I'm almost ready to have people start testing out Old Home Castle (siege) as well as a new Squad menu :) it should hopefully change the way the game is played a bit in a new and exciting way :D

Introducing Belendir's Crown. A fort deep within Warling territory that was pivotal in delaying the Redkin invasion. Captain Belendir, a famous marksman, was said to have held off the enemy with his small contingent of forces for 6 days, only falling when the entire garrison had run out of ammo.

Chiefs/Captains
Introducing captains! Or errr... chiefs? I don't know, tell me what you think they should be called :P basically, kill these units and their surrounding units will be thrown into a panic. Super fun to watch :D
New Dialogue Boxes!
So I'm just starting to role these out, and will need to swap lots of the older ones. Using these will allow me to start also doing localization AND I think will just overall be better moving forward. You can press 'F' when in range to continue to the next page, or 'V' to go back :)
Platforming Elements
Introducing a new sort of platforming element! I'm calling them flipboards right now, but if you have a better name/idea for how they should look, definitely give a shout :) you can find them in the new location somewhere special ;)
Enemy Alarm Sounders!
Enemies will now try and sound an alarm when they spot you! (if ones nearby)
Barracks Doors
In Saltpeat village you'll find a new type of enemy alarm spawner! It's a barracks door! :D these will constantly spawn units until destroyed :)

Well! I can't believe its already this late in June, time has been absolutely flying. I told myself I wanted to have siege mode completed by this time, and so part of me is definitely disappointed it isnt yet xD but I know I just need to keep working hard, keep adding new locations and features, fix bugs like crazy, and eventually it'll all get done :D thanks for all your patience and encouragement, it really means a ton to me :) and remember! If you still haven't rated the game, that's one of the BEST things you can do to help the game get better visibility on Steam :) so tell your friends to pick it up while it's on sale! :D
Also I got a new haircut, so uhh... I'll be wearing a hat for bit :P

Well friends! Here's a fun little mini-update while lots of the Beta Locations are in the final stretch! :) featuring brand new fire system where you can:
Light sticks/torches on fire.
Light certain wood props on fire.
Light fires/log stacks with lit torches
Light enemies on fire, and they'll light OTHERS on fire.
Light explosive barrels on fire.
I also started working on sort of destruction system for walls, I'm not sure how big/in depth it'll be. But right now you can knock down certain trees onto them :D Check out Rebelwood Camp to see it in action!

I've been cranking along with the Beta locations and it's been a LOT more fun than just working on them one at a time :) I feel overall they're more fun, and also they'll get released in batches, which is pretty cool :D (rather than just 1 new location every few weeks etc). I've also been devoting a lot of time to working on siege mode, and things are coming a long nicely :D

Fire System
You can light your simple stick on fire AND other props as well! (wood ones that is)
You can also light previously unlit fires/log stacks, I still need to go through some of the older levels and get the fire system up to date though :)
Also pretty fun, is that you can drag props into the fire too! Here I was seeing if I could light the barrel on fire and put it out with the water... I was a little too late xP
Cinematics!
I started getting more comfortable with some new cinematics tools! So get ready for some ridiculousness :P

HA! I thoroughly enjoyed the fun we were able to have in the comments for the last post :D makes me feel like there's this hidden club, and you can tell who's part of it and who isnt :P I've been having fun working siege mode and am pretty excited to get people playing it soon, though the more I play it, the more I realize how cool it'd be to do some of those mechanics on OTHER locations as well, rather than just big city sieges :/ you'll know what I mean soon :) on that note, let me know what your favorite siege engine is in the comments :D (and gosh, go rate the game already if you haven't :P)
I've got another pretty exciting update coming your way! :) introducing a dynamic battle map! If you've played other skirmish/RTS games then this will look familiar to you. Basically your spawn point in the battle is dynamically generated and so is the enemy's. This is just the first iteration of this, I'd like to have it change depending on what geographic features you're by on the map, and also add a better way to see/scout the enemy. My first though was some sort of first person view? Let me know what you think!

AHA! You're back down here eh? I still think nobody ever reads these... if you do read this, comment with your favorite animal and let's confuse everyone who doesnt read it :P NEXT on the agenda! If you havent rated the game already, pleeeease go do it :) it would mean a ton to me, AND it would let the Steam sorting robots decide whether Warcube is worth paying attention to. Introducing Beta Location mode! A way for you to play locations that are currently in progress and send feedback if you think of a cool idea that would fit in well :) feel free to use one of the feedback towers in the location OR just give me a shout on Steam/Discord/Imgur/Etc :)
I'm really excited to have added Beta Location mode, one thing that you probably didn't know, is that I actually have quite a few locations sort of 'blocked in' on the map, but they're just not done. Sometimes because they're just not finished, and more often, because I'm just not confident in the location 100%, so I'm super excited to tag these locations on map, so that I can get feedback from you BEFORE I release them :)
I'll also be working to make the way you interact with things more clear too, like changing color when hovering over things you can interact with, or some way to highlight them. But I need to get some more content in first ;)

May Already?!
Gosh, crazy to think its May already :) the year has absolutely been flying by. I hope you've got some fun things to look forward to for summer, or at least some fun games to play :D wanted to let you guys know early that I'm planning on doing a big update hopefully some time in June, so I'll need all the help I can get to spread the word! :D

Tactical RTS Controls! - 0.0.18v1
Unit Orders
Introducing the ability to directly order units! :D you can now hold left ctrl and go into "command mode" where you can select units, then (still holding ctrl) right click and order them to go somewhere/attack/interact with things!
For anyone who's heard me talk about tactics in the game, you know I've struggled with what level of control to give to people. ESPECIALLY because the size and scope of Warcube is still kind of murky... like what level of control is useful for when you only have 5 units? Or for when you have 100? Or when you're in a battle? Or when you're at a regular location? Those questions are usually what I think of the most. So what I've tentatively decided to do, is put in RTS styled controls, and then in a few more weeks (hopefully) I'll have put in more GENERAL style controls, like "everyone charge" or "everyone follow me". That sort of thing :) similar to Mount & Blade if anyone has played that. So let me know what feels good, or if you have any fun ideas for things to do with these controls! Like puzzles or challenges, or really anything that would be fun :)
I'll also be working to make the way you interact with things more clear too, like changing color when hovering over things you can interact with, or some way to highlight them. But I need to get some more content in first ;)

HEY! I'm happy you're reading the bottom paragraph again! :D Wanted to say I've been having a lot of fun building out some of these RTS controls, but am definitely worried that I miiiiight be overdoing the RTS elements of the game.
