First novella released, plus a look at the inventory re-design
Our newest Kickstarter update brings a lot of great news; the first novella is now out and will be downloading to your Steam install folder shortly, and we offer our first look at our major inventory re-design.
We’re extremely happy with how the new inventory is coming along. It greatly reduces the amount of unnecessary micromanagement and is much more visually appealing than the previous iteration. Instead of being list based, we were able to make it more icon based with unique icons for all items. The list style inventory works well for a game like WL2 with lots of items to collect, but lacks a bit of the soul that comes with an icon based inventory. There is something special about getting to see all the items you own in one spot. We had always hoped to go with an icon based system, but early in the project we were hesitant to commit to it due to the greatly increased art costs. We’re now at the point where we feel comfortable taking on the challenge and know it will make for a better experience.

The image above shows the new backpack. Long gone are the days of hitting the backpack button and having 4-7 packs pop open. By selecting the party member along the side, you can see the contents of their pack. If you select the “All” button, it will show you the contents of all packs in one easy to read space. Hovering over an item in this mode will highlight the party member on the left to show whose bag it’s in. Drag it to the PC you want to have it and you’re good to go!
When you mouse over the item, you will get all stat and useful information displayed in a small pop-up. You also can further examine the items by double clicking to read the details and see any additional description information.
This grid-based inventory is not limited for space. You can manually keep it sorted yourself under the all items tab if you have your own system in mind, or have the game auto-sort it under one of the other tabs (which will not re-set your manual sorting).

At the same time, we’re also updating the character, attribute, skills and dossier screens. No longer will they be full screen but instead a more compact window, which gives us space to combine it with another screen. Additionally, dropping items in the world, adding them to hotkey bars, and trading becomes much easier when you can move this compact window around to the most convenient screen spot.

Upcoming new build will likely break save games while fixing some major known issues
We will be making an update in the next few days that will include major fixes for a number of the most common blocker bugs, as well as numerous other fixes and improvements based on the feedback we have been getting on the beta. This update will likely break all existing save games and force you to start a new game. If you don’t want this to happen, open up your Steam Library, select properties on Wasteland 2, go to the Updates tab and set it to “Do not automatically update this game”. This will allow you to continue your game and update at your own convenience later. HOWEVER, if you do this, please do check the patch notes before reporting bugs and mention your version number in any bug reports you make.
Based on the beta feedback so far, here are known major game-breaking issues:
Agricultural Center crashes to desktop on map transition: this should be fixed in the next build
Saves made in Highpool after the fight with the wreckers surrounding the mortar are corrupt: we are currently working on this issue and it should be fixed in next build
The UI scaling does not work properly and makes text unreadable: the next build will contain more UI scaling and resizing options which should resolve these issues
Custom portraits are replaced by white field and related saves are corrupted: this should be fixed in the next build, in the meantime we recommend not using custom portraits
There is significant mouse lag: we are currently working on this and improvements should be in the next build
The game is not optimized: we will do several optimization passes as we progress, with each build the game should run better
Numerous other fixes will be in the next build, full patch notes will be published when the build goes up

Wasteland 2 hits Steam Early Access
Welcome back to the Citadel, Rangers! Join the over 70,000 Kickstarter backers and interact with the development team to help shape the ending of an already historic post-apocalyptic story. The Wasteland's hellish landscape has been waiting for you to make your mark… or die trying.
Wasteland 2 is the direct sequel to 1988’s Wasteland, the first-ever post-apocalyptic computer RPG and the inspiration behind the Fallout series. Until Wasteland, no other CRPG had ever allowed players to control and command individual party members for tactical purposes or given them the chance to make moral choices that would directly affect the world around them. Wasteland was a pioneer in multi-path problem solving, dripping in choice and consequence and eschewing the typical one-key-per-lock puzzle solving methods of its peers, in favor of putting the power into players’ hands to advance based on their own particular play style.
The Wasteland series impressive and innovative lineage has been preserved at its very core, but modernized for the fans of today with Wasteland 2. Immerse yourself in turn-based tactical combat that will test the very limits of your strategy skills as you fight to survive a desolate world where brute strength alone isn’t enough to save you. Deck out your Ranger squad with the most devastating weaponry this side of the fallout zone and get ready for maximum destruction with the RPG-style character advancement and customization that made the first Wasteland so brutal. Save an ally from certain death or let them perish – the choice is yours, but so are the consequences.
