Weird West

Quick hot fix for the German version of the game

It has come to our attention that the latest patch we had done seemed to have broken part of the translations in the german version of the game so we just hot fixed that now!

Plague Events are now automated recurring events!

Hey, folks!

We deployed a hotfix earlier this week to address the main menu modding button not being clickable when a Plague Event is active. Now that this issue is resolved, we have also restarted a Plague Event on the server since the one that was active during the festive season had to be paused due to the technical issue above.

Finally, we have also restored the recurring nature of this community event, meaning that Plague Events will now automatically occur every three weeks for a span of five days. Please note that when a Plague Event triggers on the server side, it becomes active in the game world for all players simultaneously, regardless of your game progress. (This means it will layer over the main game experience, giving an extra temporary twist and providing a custom experience whether you are in the first, second, third, fourth, or last Journey.) This is valid for all platforms/store fronts.

Enjoy!

Festive Zombies Are On the Way!

By popular demand, a Plague Event is coming back for all platforms just in time for the holidays! Look for the living dead to start ransacking your Weird West world between December 25th 8AM US Pacific / 4PM GMT and January 2nd 8AM US Pacific / 4PM GMT!

What does this mean? Zombies, of course! Some abandoned secondary locations will be invaded by zombie hordes, and traveling between locations might result in a zombie ambush. Not only that, during the invasion, you'll also get access to the special Plague Event side quest. We'll have you shouting "Braaains!" in no time.

Also, make sure to check out zombies' names when you encounter them--you never know who may have come back as the living dead. :)

Weird West Patch 1.05 launches with mod support + First-Person mod!

Weird West Patch 1.05 is now live. This new free update introduces mod support for the game and fixes a handful of bugs reported by the community.

Edit: please note that due to a technical issue the release of patch 1.05 on the Epic Game Store has been delayed but should be available within 24 hours (the build update is just pending Epic approval but is all ready to go!)

MOD SUPPORT (STEAM/EGS/GOG Only)

You can now browse and install mods directly from the in-game mod menu, courtesy of mod.io!

We threw in a few sample mods for you to toy with as a starter pack:

QUIRKY FIRST-PERSON MOD BY JOE WINTERGREEN!

On top of the four sample mods we're providing, you will also find shipping with patch 1.05 a free, quirky first-person mod from Joe Wintergreen. A very fun way to rediscover Weird West! More details over here. This mod can be installed directly from the new in-game modding menu!

Please keep in mind that this mod is a community-made mod and was not made by Wolfeye Studios. We are only promoting it here but won't be providing support for it ourselves, since we are not its creators.

MOD CREATION

If you're interested in creating mods for Weird West, give it your best shot and upload it via the mod.io web page to make it available in-game for everybody!

You can find a guide on How To Mod Weird West here on mod.io:

BUG FIXING (PC/Playstation/Xbox)

While mod support is only releasing for PC Steam/EGS/GoG, Patch 1.05 is still releasing on all other storefronts and platforms, as it's also bringing in a handful of fixes:

  • Fixes scenery shadows flickering, which was happening in some locations when rotating the camera on Xbox and Playstation
  • Rebinding the key for USE on PC now also correctly remaps the "drop" key when carrying objects around
  • If a shovel or pickaxe somehow ended up with zero durability when transferred out of the player's inventory, it will regain its full durability upon being retrieved
  • Fixed bounty board sometimes having a child as bounty target, resulting in an impossible-to-kill bounty
  • Fixed rare case during the Protector Journey where the Ravenous attack waves in Olvidado Pueblo were never ending, causing the objective to become stuck

MANUALLY INSTALLING MODS ON PC GAME PASS

For those of you playing on PC Game Pass: there is a manual way to check out mods (you just wont get the in game mod browsing and install menu due to technicalities we won't go into details here.)

What you can do at the moment for PC Game Pass is download the mods you want to install from mod.io (on their website https://mod.io/g/weirdwest/) then unzip the content of the downloaded zip file into your game pass installed directory:

For instance: X:\XboxGames\Weird West Win10\Content\Nova\Content\Paks

After doing that the mod(s) will be automatically mounted and activated next time you launch the game.

Weird West Mod Support Open Beta!

STEAM OPEN BETA BRANCH

Hi gunslingers from all over the Weird West! Mod support is officially coming later this month to Weird West via mod.io, but before we put it into the main build on Steam, the Epic Game Store, and GoG for all players, we wanted to invite curious players to try it out in advance in a short open beta on Steam only.

A "modding" public beta branch is now available on Steam, and if you opt in, the MODDING button on the main menu of the game will be enabled.

SAMPLE MODS

We added four starting sample mods for the open beta so that you have a bit of content to play with and we can make sure all is working at a larger scale. The sample mods can be browsed and installed directly from the in-game MODDING menu:

Please note that those sample mods are to be considered work in progress for the duration of this open beta so they may not all be fully functional yet.

MOD CREATION

Most importantly though: if you are interested in creating mods for Weird West, you can now go ahead and try it! Any mods created and submitted/published during the open beta will carry over once mod support is officially released. So, here's your chance to get a head start and have your mods featured in the game when mod support releases to all players on the week of November 21st!

If you are interested in creating and uploading/publishing Weird West mods, head over to our mod.io page here.

You can also find a guide on How To Mod Weird West here on mod.io

Please note that this is a beta, and as such things are not fully stabilized yet, so you may encounter a few issues here and there. Feel free to post a comment on this thread if you find anything annoying or share your thoughts over on our Discord Server. Our main goal with releasing this early beta is to give mod creators a chance to go hands-on early with the new tools and give them the opportunity to have their creations featured when Patch 1.05 comes out later this month.

A SURPRISE MOD COMING SOON!

Oh... and when we fully release mod support in a few weeks, it will come with a bonus little surprise mod from Joe Wintergreen, which we're sure a lot of you will love :). Stay tuned, 'cause that's a big one you won't want to miss--let's just say... fans of a different POV might like it ;).

Minor Weird West Patch 1.04F is now live!

We just released a minor update to Patch 1.04 to address a few issues reported by players.
The following issues have been addressed:

  • Fixed rare case of horse saddlebags being emptied when opening the horse inventory via the companion UI
  • Fixed rare case of brand-new shovels and pickaxes getting negative durability when put in the horse saddlebags
  • Fixed rare case of empty Temple of the Ancients spawning on the world map
  • Fixed controls originally assigned to WASD/ZQSD not being properly re-assigned to the conversation and travel map UI if rebound by player
  • Fixed rare case of the Lost Fire Nation turning against player and exiling them despite player having done nothing bad to them
  • Fixed edge case blocker if you fill your inventory with corn pickups before grabbing your pistol at the very beginning of the Bounty Hunter Journey (now the pistol can be found at your feet in a pile of objects after the weapon inspection cinematic)
  • Companions almost never bark in combat now to avoid cluttering the screen with dialog lines during the heat of combat

The Patch is currently live on Steam, GoG and Epic Game Store and should be available on other platforms and storefronts before the end of the week (Xbox, Playstation and PC Game Pass).

Stay tuned for more news on Patch 1.05 soon, which will introduce MOD support to the game!

EDIT: this patch has now also been deployed to the remaining platforms, Playstation, Xbox and PC Game Pass!

Patch 1.04E Hot Fixes

Hi!

We released a minor patch today, 1.04E to address a batch of issues that were recently reported and were low hanging fruit that could be easily addressed immediately:

  • Fixed bug where some town locations would not go abandoned after wiping their population
  • Fixed blocker bug that can happen in Protector Journey where either Maryann or West Standing Woman refuses to talk to you despite the objective leading you to them
  • Hide the rival distillery sidequest location until the sidequest is active to avoid stumbling out of context on a bunch of raging farmers attacking you on sight
  • Fixed a couple of Russian translation issues with Vendetta dialogs
  • Fixed rare blocking bug with the Crime & Punishment side quest where the Oneirist enrolled for the Ritual would decide to be the quest giver for the Once Upon a Dream Side Quest
  • On PC, force the game to startup Full Screen rather than borderless to avoid resolution issues
  • Fixed Localization issue in Traditional Chinese with the golden shovel and erroneous punctuation in some of the Protector Journey starting dialogs
  • Cleaned up Thriving Place of occurrences where NPCs would walk into fireplaces or damage themselves on pickups lying on the ground which could result in a weird mess with the AI Detection/Awareness system
  • Fixed various bugs with the wrong weapon being the one equipped or assigned to the Quick Swap slot when multiple variations of the same base weapon exist in inventory
  • Increased some of the AI Barks cooldown to ease a bit the rate at which companions speak

This updated 1.04E Build is now available on Steam and GoG and should be available on other storefronts and consoles in a few hours.

Beginner's Guide to the Weird West

With the Bounty Hunter Journey now free for everyone to play, we've compiled a few key tips for those just starting their adventures in the Weird West!

  • If you're running out of inventory space, remember you can scrap unused weapons from your inventory screen, which will free up an inventory slot, retrieve some ammo, and, if you're lucky, earn you some crafting components. You can also use your companions and horse to carry extra stuff!

  • Remember that any item labelled Junk can be disposed of without missing out on anything--their only purpose is to be resold at General Store, so if you don't need the extra cash, feel free to drop them!

  • Don't forget that you can easily quicksave and quickload with F5/F9, so try the craziest things--you'll often be surprised of the result! Whether it's pickpocketing someone who's sleeping, setting a field ablaze, or climbing up and getting inside a building at night via the chimney--the paths are endless!

  • The game is made in a way where you will never get stuck, even if you decide to kill key story characters. So feel free to experiment--there's no wrong way to play.

  • Don't forget that there are a few aiming options to toy with if you want to tailor your experience a bit more specifically: from a more permissive aim assist to an altogether alternative aiming system, you can tune the game in many different ways that suit your playstyle!

  • All weapons and vests can be upgraded at any forge or tanning station respectively, using ore or animal hides. You'll find different type of mines throughout your adventure: copper, silver or gold mines.

  • Playing stealth? Don't worry about your companions: they cannot be detected by enemies and will not engage in combat unless you engage first!

  • If you prefer a non-lethal approach, blunt weapons will knock out your enemies rather than killing them, and other gadgets such as the stun grenade are also useful parts of a non-lethal arsenal. Some of the weapon abilities are also good to have for either stealth or a non-lethal playthrough.

  • Don't hesitate to venture off the beaten path and explore secondary locations, especially abandoned ones, which often hold good loot, Nimps Relics, and Aces of Spades

  • Similarly, take your time and explore locations in-depth for extra secrets, and be sure to seek out mound caches to dig up more loot!

  • You can click anywhere on the travel map, even if there's no location present, to set up camp. Your camp allows you to rest, replenishing HP and Action Points. Wilderness areas surrounding your camp are also a good place to hunt animals if you're looking for meat to cook or hides to upgrade vests. You'll find different types of animals depending on the terrain on which you set up camp.

  • After you complete a Journey, don't forget to go and recruit your previous Heroes! Not only will this bring you some extra fire power, but you can also retrieve their items--ammo, keys, money, and even their horse!

  • If you change horses between Journeys for whatever reason, don't panic--all horses share the same saddlebags, so you can always retrieve items from any horse you've owned at any stage of the game.

  • Pace yourself! It's ok to not explore the entire world map during the first Journey. All five Journeys happen in the same area of the world, so any locations you haven't explored in the first Journey can still be explored in the subsequent Journeys!

  • Don't forget to come back to the Bounty Boards from time to time. The level of the wanted targets will increase through out the game, Journey by Journey, so you'll be able to find bigger bounties as the game unfolds--not to mention the key story characters that might pop up on the board from previous Journeys.

  • And don't forget that capturing a bounty alive, when the option is given, although more difficult, increases the monetary reward! That's more money to buy new equipment!

And most importantly... Enjoy your time in the Weird West!
