I regret to announce today that I will be ceasing development of the Lawless Frontier beta. It has become financially unfeasible for me to continue the development of the Lawless Frontier, and I must move on. If you have recently only purchased the game to play updates of the Lawless Frontier, I sincerely apologize and please ask Steam directly for any refunds.
For v1.2.5, the Lawless Frontier is now moved to Experimental. I have fixed several outstanding bugs and updated the engine to the latest version.
For those who stuck around for the free expansion, once again, I wish the sales was more favorable. Thank you all for support!

Update v1.2.2
The Lawless Frontier free expansion is now officially in open beta!
Thank you everyone who has purchased a copy of WESTSLINGERS. This additional game mode is my show of appreciation for those who wanted to play more after finishing the original campaign.
In the new content are the following features (as showcased in the new trailer):
Free roam and explore the towns from the original campaign.
Talk to the townsfolk, find objectives, recruit new members.
Construct and improve your permanent hideout.
Defend your hideout against raids from Indians and outlaws.
Manage your gang and customize their weapons in the workshop.
Build your gang notoriety and overcome increasing resistance.
To try out the beta, start a new gang and select The Lawless Frontier playstyle when prompted.
If you have not played the original campaign, be aware that the content is in beta and will undergo changes and bugfixing. I would recommend playing the original first before moving onto the new content. Please report all bugs to the Discussion forums here on Steam!
The Lawless Frontier News - 11/01
More progress on the free expansion development!
The 3rd building type called the Workshop that allows you to lightly customize and mod your guns is in progress. You can tint and name your weapon and also add small mods like a hairline trigger.
When you return to your hideout after a mission, you can now be raided by Indians, outlaw robbers, or Marshals. You must select up to 4 defenders to thwart the attack.
Closed testing for the expansion will begin very soon, and I hope to release an open beta version by Thanksgiving.
If you've only purchased the game recently and have already beaten the game, these updates are referring to a more open-ended free roam mode in development.
The Lawless Frontier News - 10/24
The expansion is continuing development and will begin testing near the end of the month. I've added the 2nd building type called the Infirmary. The outlaws retain their wounds from previous missions and this building increases the speed these wounds heal between other missions.
The Bank Heist mission archetype is also complete with the banks accruing money every day they are not robbed.
Upcoming in development is the Workshop building type and Bounty Hunt mission type. Stay tuned for more news as I try to bring a beta version for you as soon as possible.
The Lawless Frontier News - 10/17
Hey everyone! The in-game version of the gang screen is reworked into a dialog to fit along with the style of the other menus. The gang also now manages their own weapon inventory. Below is a screenshot for the building construction preview similar to what you see in RTS games. Each Quarters building increases the gang size limit by 4. You will be able to build up to 3 of these buildings. More details to come as I implement them. Thanks for your patience!
The Lawless Frontier News - 10/10
Hey fans! You haven't heard from me in a while because I have been working on the foundations of the free roaming mode. The permanent hideout and town repopulation is well under way. Basic construction and mission generation functionality are in. Next up are the converting the existing towns to function with mission generation, wounded status, and weapon inventory.
Meanwhile, here is a screenshot of the new mission prep prompt:

'The Lawless Frontier' Free Expansion in Development
A new free expansion is now under development for WESTSLINGERS!
The aim of the update is provide a separate Free Roam experience from the original Linear Campaign that provides less structured but with more depth and longer open-ended playtime. By starting a gang in the Free Roam playstyle, your gang leader will move to a permanent encampment after the first mission. It will act as a central hub that allows to travel to different towns. You will also be able to improve the camp with buildings.
Free Roaming
Visit the towns as the gang leader outside of missions
Discover various missions through NPCs in town
Towns repopulate to provide a different challenge for the next mission
Permanent Encampment
Improve your camp with prefab buildings that affect the meta game
Defend against Indian and rival gang raids
Meta Gameplay
Persistent gang member states like wounds and bounty
Resistance in each town increases based on your gang's notoriety
These are some of the more concrete ideas in progress. As the development continues and the design experiments become fun, I will update the official thread with a lot more detail on what will definitely make it into the expansion. Development will likely take many months, but I would be more than happy to provide early access once stable enough to play. Thanks for tuning in. Happy Wednesday!
