When Wardens Fall Patch 1.1: Available Now
Hunters!
When Wardens Fall patch 1.1 is available now! This release was all about addressing the feedback we have received from the community since our first release at the end of August and adding new and interesting mechanics to keep players engaged and diversify their dungeon runs.
New Mechanics
Smooth Locomotion
This has probably been the most requested feature since release, and we are happy to say that we now have a fully functional smooth locomotion system for both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift players.
The option to toggle between Teleport and Smooth Locomotion is available immediately when you start the game, in the tutorial room. In addition, you can adjust this setting on the Options Panel in the Start Room.
In Vive, move your thumb over the touch pad on your non-dominate hand to move. Move your thumb over the touch pad on your dominate hand to rotate.
In Oculus, move the joystick on your non-dominate hand to move. Move the joystick on your dominate hand to rotate.
Item Rarity System
Weapons now have the ability to spawn with additional runes, which vary in shape and colour, indicating the type of special ability the weapon possesses.
Weapons with 1 rune will produce a magical effect when used; with 2 runes will produce a rare effect when used; or 3 runes will produce a legendary effect when used.
Professions System
In order to add variability to each dungeon run, players now have the ability to level up following specific profession paths. Leveling is denoted by a golden explosion as well as a career choice when you reach level 2.
You can level as a Warrior by playing with a sword and any non-dagger weapon. At the level 2 career choice you have the option to select the Tank, which will give you the Shield Bash ability, or the Solider, which will give you the Blocking Strike ability.
You can level as a Barbarian by playing with either 2 weapons or a single two-handed weapon. At the level 2 career choice you have the option to select Berserker, which will give you the Rage ability, or the Marauder, which will give you the Stunning Hit ability.
Warrior and Barbarian professions will be expanded to have a second career choice at level 5 at a later date, but we hope you enjoy this taste of the beginnings of the professions system.
Wardens Journals
We have introduced the first Wardens Journal to When Wardens Fall. In the Start Room you will see a glowing book which when touched will play a journal entry recorded by a Warden before the prison fell to corruption. The purpose of this journal entry specifically is to teach you about the start room and provide some context for the lore of the game. We plan to introduce more Warden Journals throughout the dungeon that you will be able to collect.
Two Handed Weapon Changes
Two handed weapons were really strong in the previous patch, due to the fact that players could use both a two handed weapon and a shield. Two handed weapons now have their damage reduced when not held with two hands. Therefore in order to fight effectively with a two handed weapon you need to use both hands.
Two handed weapons are denoted by the secondary grab location, represented by a small translucent cube.
Fixes
Fixed path finding so that Ai no longer seeks player through impassable terrain
Optimization across levels - Reduced texture on certain objects and reduced particle count on certain levels to increase overall performance.
Fixed bug where ambient sound would not loop.
Added combat loop music while player is engaged in battle.
Replaced most alchemy sounds with new sound effects.
Added sounds to better guide the player.
Adjusted colliders on shields and player to better reflect size of object.
Fixed bug in disciple AI which would infrequently cause monster to freeze.
Adding more enemy spawners to certain rooms to increase monster density.
Fixed lighting in certain rooms.
Fixed chest spawns in certain rooms.
Balance Pass
Overall we noticed that a lot of our two handed weapons were extremely high damage, which resulted in the two handed weapon change (see above). In addition, we have also reduced the damage stats for our different two handed weapons as well as a few other specific weapons.
Great Square Hammer = Damage reduced from 200 to 150
Great Hammer = Damage reduced from 300 to 200
Woodcutter’s Axe = Damage reduced from 250 to 180
Battle Axe = Damage reduced from 300 to 200
Great Axe = Damage reduce from 350 to 230
Retribution = Damage reduced from 600 to 190
Warden’s Sword = Damage reduced from 150 to 120
Blessed Blade = Damage reduced from 250 to 200
