Wild West Wednesday – Hundred Miles Eastwards

Somewhere in the west:

“Good day gentlemen! How’s work today?”
“Good day, Felipe!”
“Good day!”
“Well, Felipe, work keeps us on our toes, but old McCluskey isn’t paying this much anymore. Might join work somewhere else, right, Graham?”
“Yea, right!”
“So, what are your plans then?”
“Don’t know, maybe me and Graham are going back to the great plains, but then, trains travel everywhere there. No big trails anymore. That’s crap.”
“Yea, right!”
“Damn, Graham, all you have to say is ‘Yea, right!’”?
“Yea, right!”

The job of a cowboy wasn’t a job after all, but a lifestyle, filled with work. The profession had its roots in Spain and was exported to the Americas. The job of vaquero became the cowboy in the United States.
In the nineteenth century this job was one of the hardest jobs: on horse for ten hours per day, with just a few breaks in between. Also, life practically completely happened in the open air. Eating, resting and almost no daily hygiene. Nevertheless, a cowboy’s job was quite diverse: branding cattle, being a nurse for cows, guarding the cattle, fixing fences.
Hopefully this gloomy job description won’t stop you from picking up one or another cowboy skill in Wild West Dynasty. Yee-haaa!

Wild West Wednesday - Money oils the world' s machinery

"Hey mister! That's a nice fish net you've got there! But it's too small and there are no fish here in the desert!"
"Aha, kid! What's your name?"
"Edward!"
"Well then, dear Edward, I'm not looking for fish. My name is Felipe, and I am a lepidopterist."
"HUH? What's a lepo, …leper...lepidoctor...?"
"A butterfly collector."
"I see."
"Did you see some pretty butterflies out there in the desert?"
"Only if I get some Goldibear biscuits. The ones over there on the shelf. Cost only a dime a pack."
"Edward, you are a connoisseur of fine foods!"
"HUH?"

Money oils the machinery of this world. But to keep the machine running, money must also flow. In the 19th century West, trading posts and general stores were the hubs of commerce. At trading posts, goods could be bought and sold: Furs and livestock, as well as raw materials such as silver or gold were traded there. Household goods, fabrics, clothing, weapons, spices, jewellery, and durable food were on sale. In the second half of the 19th century, however, with the railways and the invention of barbed wire, the demise of the cowboys began. Cattle herds could be kept in certain areas and the railways saved the tedious cattle drives. The West became a relatively "wild" West during this period!

Wild West Wednesday – Schoolhouse, church, and graveyard

“Miss Hood?! I will nay longer come to school!”
“Edward! What?”
“Miss Hood, my father says there is a ghost wandering around the graveyard nearby!”
“Edward, your father keeps telling people all kind of hokeypokey stories. About everything, about the store, the mine, and now the graveyard.”
“Nay, Miss Hood, it’s true! He says the ghost is hovering above the graves at night!”
“Young man! Do not make me laugh. You will come to school tomorrow!”
“NAY”

Church houses weren’t just ordinary churches in the Wild West, where the pious met every Sunday, but they also served as schoolhouses were the townsfolks’ and farmers’ children congregated to learn about the things outside their homes. The churches also served as communal meeting places in small towns that did not have a town hall or any other spacious location where people could gather, also, sometimes the preacher was a person with the highest formal education nearby and was able to read and write letters. Illiteracy was still a thing at the frontier, especially in the early 19th century.

Inevitably connected to the church was the cemetery, where the dead were buried. Those unfortunate enough to take the Wild West lightly!

Wild West Wednesday - Frozen in the Desert!

Howdy Cowboys and Cowgirls!

For all those who can only just resist the heat today, imagine these temperatures every day, only with the small difference that at night the temperature drops to 2 degrees Celsius - then you will have a vague idea of the rough wild west.

It is a rollercoaster ride of warmth and cold in which you must find your way. You need enough water to wet your dry throat. You need enough food in the barren wasteland where rarely even a blade of grass grows. Just imagine you are hungry and thirsty and far and wide only stony desert.

What would be your survival tricks in such a seemingly hopeless situation? And above all, what temperatures can you cope with?

Wild West Wednesday – The Cursed Mine

"Hey mister! This mine outside of town, who owns it?"

"Nobody!"

"What, nobody? How can that be?"

"It was abandoned when I came here years ago. What this superstitious folk here is telling each other, it's haunted. Quite a bit, too. The story has it that this mine was one of the first places they looked for gold. The miners also established this town here, but I digress. The owner in his greed dug deep there and then his workers found something!"

"Like what? Gold?"

"No, not gold. Something... different. A huge bone of a massive creature."

"Oh, geez!"

"Well, anyway, soon after, a finely dressed toff from Mexico came by with five covered wagons and bought the bone from the owner and his men for the price of a feasting booze-up. Then, once he was gone, the curse hit. At first, one man fell from the scaffolding at the mine and busted all his bones, then five men were buried alive. Finally, one of the workers, in a state of mental stupor, said something about a creature wandering around the mine looking for this bone before burying himself in one of the tunnels. Ever since, everyone avoids the mine as best they can. And you'd better not enter it either!"

The Wild West and the locations tell stories. Will you believe these stories, as you believe the quacks with their travelling emporiums when they speak to you of the undiscovered riches of this land? We certainly hope so, because in the coming weeks we will entrust them to you!

Wild West Dynasty - The latest freshly from the press!

Hello cowboys and cowgirls!

Let's imagine you're standing in your saloon and suddenly the two famous gunslingers nicknamed "Read Dead Redemption" and "Cities: Skylines" swoop in. At first you might ask yourself which nutcase gave them these names, but well. You clear out the nameless wranglers, send your best hostess and instruct your piano man to play the all-time classic "The Good, The Bad and PCGamesN". Then sit down and listen to what they all have to say.

Nuff said.

Wild West Dynasty - The In-game Teaser!

Howdy cowboys and cowgirls!

We have roamed this barren wasteland for a very long time now, constantly searching for the ONE place where it all started. The landscape is familiar and yet strange. Every cactus, every rock formation summons a memory and yet: only an illusion, a false reminiscence!

Why is this so important? Because everything is important, or so I've been told, but I stopped believing in it some time ago. Still, it is for this one essential reason that we set out. Important, important, important, these are the words that have been echoing inside the tarpaulin of the wagon for weeks and they are slowly becoming extraneous. Everything is important and yet I know nothing. The wagon rattles, the horses groan, they are tired, and I feel this weariness in myself too.

"I recognise it all!" I jolt at these unexpected words. "We will soon have reached our journey’s destination".

We are approaching a certain point with giant leaps, a point most of you are waiting for some time. Surely you have packed your wagon, fed the horses well, tucked away your shotgun and are ready to see your new home.

But the time has not yet come.

We will keep you informed until it finally is. But let's start lighting the fuse to the hype, we brought a ingame teaser for that!

Run fast and take cover!

Wild West Dynasty - Not Without My Horseshoe

Howdy Cowboys and Cowgirls!

The blacksmithing of the Wild West is a well-preserved craft that has been carried on from generation to generation. Not just anyone could learn this craft, it required a long period of training and a high degree of confidence, because iron was not only an advanced, but also rare commodity.

"Not leaving this town without horseshoe!"

To be a blacksmith meant first of all to be indispensable. Blacksmithing was a rare and, above all, not an easy craft to learn. So always be kind to your blacksmiths.

Wild West Dynasty - The Wild West Diary #2

Howdy folks,

we know it's been a long time. But diary entries are sometimes hard to decipher and especially hard to find in this arid and barren desert region. But we have found what we were looking for.

... Dust, everywhere this dry dust. My throat feels like a grated stone - dry, painful. My break was too long, or wasn't it? What time is it? Have I been resting here for two, four, six or eight hours? I'm not sure, but it is certain that I must keep going. The next town is not far - or is it? Damn, my mind, it's fogged by the heat, strained by the dryness, but hell, it's unbroken...

Even back then, heat was a natural enemy of man that should not be underestimated; how did the settlers of the Wild West cope with it? They used simple tricks. For example, they kept their beds moist during the day so that they felt freshly cooled in the evening. Many simply slept outside to take advantage of the cooling wind.

We hope to give you more content soon, but until then we have to keep digging to find enough water. Until then, stay safe and above all, stay hydrated!
