Hey folks! We're excited to let you know that the Wildfrost demo is back for a limited time as part of a very special The Game Awards demo event. Big thanks to Geoff Keighley & TGA team for inviting us! ❄
If you’ve played Wildfrost before in the October Steam Next Fest or at an event, you’ll notice we’ve introduced quality of life fixes, mechanical tweaks and balance changes based on community feedback and beta testing. We'd love to get your thoughts on these changes.
If this is your first time playing, we recommend joining the Discord where you’ll find a super helpful and friendly community who love to chat about all-things Wildfrost. (Just don’t get suckered in the Cult of the Gnome).
Test out the Snowdweller Tribe and their associated cards ❄️
4 battles per run with 1 boss and 7 possible mini bosses
4 playable Pets to join your Leader
23 Companions to collect
45 Items & Clunkers to experiment with
The final game will have plenty more to get to grips with, including additional Tribes to master, with 50+ Companions, 70+ Item cards and 20+ Clunker cards to fill your decks with. Fight your way through 5+ boss monsters, 15+ mini-bosses, and a special final boss that will be different each time you play! You’ll also be able to further develop the town of Snowdwell with content unlocks as you spend more time on your adventure, ready to take on the rest of the boss monsters lying in wait for the final challenge at the Sun Temple!
If you enjoyed the demo, and want to find out more about Wildfrost, find us on Twitter or come join the official Discord! We often share teasers for new card designs, share what we’re working on and chat about cheese 🧀. Finally, be sure to wishlist the game for a notification when the full game drops. Wildfrost will be launching on PC & Nintendo Switch Q1 2023.
Wildfrost Dev Update: 2023 Release with Cool New Features
Hey everybody,
First of all we would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who downloaded, played, streamed, and shared their feedback for Wildfrost’s Steam Next Fest demo! The support from players has been so incredible, and we’re working on making the game the coolest it can be for launch.
Until then, we wanted to let you know what we’ve been working on since, and how your feedback has helped shape the game:
Sneak peek at a snobun
Hard Mode?
We recognise that the demo difficulty wasn’t for everyone, so we’ve taken it down a notch for people who want to enjoy their time frolicking up the mountains, and we will be adding challenge modes for those of you looking for interesting ways to make things more s̾p̾i̾c̾y̾.
The Woolly Snail Shop
Lots of players pointed out that they had accidentally purchased the crown when attempting to inspect it. This is now changed, so you should be able to view items in the shop without spending your hard-earned blings!
Snow Immunity Changes
Snow immunity is now snow resistance. Bosses and minibosses will no longer be completely immune to snow, but instead they’ll have a 1-turn resistance timer meaning that multipliers of snow do not work, but you can still snow them.
Daily Runs
Exactly what it says on the tin; we’ve introduced a fixed set of cards and enemies for everyone to tackle. A new challenge every day will be available every day for you to battle your way up those leaderboards.
Player statistics
Player stats coming!
More Map Events
In addition to the Treasure Chests, Blingsnail Caves, The Woolly Snail shop, frozen travellers and charm gashapons you came across in the demo version, you’ll also find more treasure and quirky strangers with too-good-to-refuse offers along the route in the full game!
Boss Rewards
After each boss battle you’ll get to pick from an array of perks such as +1 companion on the field or -1 to the redraw bell counter, to bolster your deck and increase your chances of taking down the enemies that await.
Release Window
We’re still implementing, balance testing and playing with new features, new cards and more fun ways to play, so please bear with us as we make these tweaks ready for launch. With that being said, we want to update everybody to let you know that we’ve made the decision to push the release to early 2023 (still Winter!) so that we can bring you these new features. Our goal is always to make the coolest game we can, and we’ve been able to make the next steps towards that goal thanks to everyone who gave feedback.
Now for some fun stats!
The most popular companion pick was Big Berry, however Naked Gnome gets a special mention as over 85% of you kept him around after sparing him
The least popular companion pick was Blunky
whomp whomp*. Maybe some of you will adopt him in the full game
The most popular clunker by a large margin was the Mobile Campfire - not just picked the most, but also had the highest win rate
Players found the Spice Monkeys the most difficult to overcome and the Snowbos the easiest to defeat
Check out this fun fella
That about wraps it up! If you enjoyed the demo, and want to find out more about Wildfrost before launch, come chat to us on Twitter or on the official Discord! There you’ll find teasers for new card designs, can see what we’re are working on, and chat about cheese 🧀. Finally, be sure to wishlist the game for a notification when the full game drops.

Announcing Wildfrost - a tactical roguelike deckbuilder!
Hi everyone!
We’re incredibly excited to reveal Wildfrost, a single-player roguelike card game set in a frosty world.
The team here at Chucklefish have already been sinking hundreds of hours into Wildfrost’s equally charming and challenging runs (especially one very addicted team member!), so we can’t wait for you all to get swept up in the snowstorm later this year ❄
Check out the trailer we just revealed as part of Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase:
What’s it all about then?
In Wildfrost the world has plunged into a deep winter - even the Sun has frozen over! With each run, you’ll be battling monsters you encounter along the path to reach the Sun Temple, in an attempt to banish the frost once and for all!
Before heading out across Wildfrost’s unforgiving frozen tundra, you’ll need to choose your Leader and a starting pet. Leaders are randomly generated with different skills and stats and, depending on which tribe they belong to, will provide you with a different starting deck of cards. As you progress through the game, you’ll unlock more decks from different tribes to experiment with.
Making it all the way to the Sun Temple won’t be easy though… To truly defeat the everlasting frost you’ll need to rescue and recruit frozen card companions, building a deck strong enough to withstand waves of deceptively cute monsters. Savvy adventurers plot out the best route through the snowy wilderness to stop off at travelling merchants and uncover lost treasures along the way.
You can upgrade and customise your favourite cards throughout your journey using special wobbly charms to enhance their powers or unlock other boons. Return to the survivor stronghold of Snowdwell between runs to expand the town with new buildings, opening up shops to unlock new cards, tribes, events, customisation options, daily runs and challenges. The more you rebuild Snowdwell, the more options you’ll have to take down the brutish monsters that block your path.
When you’re facing up against a particularly tough group of enemies you’ll need to harness all of your strategic skills to come out on top during a card battle. By customising your deck, experimenting with different elemental card combinations, and mastering the ‘counter’ system to your strategic advantage, you might just have a chance!
(We’ll get more into the nitty-gritty details of that counter system in a future dev blog!)
Who is making it?
Wildfrost is being made by developer duo Will Lewis (Programmer & Designer, Deadpan Games) and Gaziter (Artist & Designer)! Will previously developed the brutal roguelike platformer Caveblazers, while Gaziter has produced incredible art for cosy indie games Forager and KnotBot.
The core team have been working together remotely on the project since March 2020, when it was originally a prototype Gaziter had been experimenting with made out of paper! By September 2020, the prototype had expanded enough to begin full development and become the beautifully charming deck-builder you see today!
What languages will Wildfrost be playable in?
At the moment we can initially confirm Wildfrost will be playable in English, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.
If your language isn’t listed above, the best way to let us know you’re interested is by wishlisting - we will be closely watching wishlist data to evaluate which languages the community is most interested in! Big thanks to our fantastic partners at Kakehashi, Bada Games, and Netease who are working on the current game translations. We hope to bring you more info on localisation soon.
Wildfrost is currently in development for PC and Nintendo Switch, and we’re aiming (all being well) to release Winter this year! As usual, we will be posting development updates as the game progresses via Wildfrost's Steam News channel, so keep your eyes peeled for more information!
That’s all for now! If you’d like to keep up to date with more Wildfrost info, join the Discord to chat with the developers, give @WildfrostGame a follow on Twitter, or join the Wildfrost subreddit. Lastly, be sure to wishlist the game to be notified as soon as it drops!
Until next time.
-Chucklefish
P.S. We’re so glad we can also finally reveal to the world the Chucklefish team’s latest obsession - your new favourite card companion - NAKED GNOME.
