This month, weâre challenging you to write a short story (or poem!) in the eyes of one of the gods of Wildmender. The content can be around the events before, during, or after Wildmender - as long as itâs from their perspective. The maximum word count is 250, but do not stress if you want to do something smaller.
The top five (yes, five!) entries will all win an exclusive Wildmender hardback notebook for all your note-taking and writing needs! Let your creativity blossom in style.
This competition will run from Monday 13th November until Thursday November 30th. To enter, send in your entry as either a Word document or a Google document in the #writing-challenge channel of the Wildmender Discord. Remember to make sure you set the link to âAnyone Can Viewâ if youâre submitting a Google Doc, otherwise we wonât be able to access it!
Please format your submission in the following way:
Title of the submission at the top of the page (this is not included in your word count) Your first name or alias under the title (no full names please!) The writing piece itself below your first name or alias
We wonât look at the submissions until November 30th, so feel free to keep rewriting/editing until the deadline. Weâll announce the five lucky winners on Friday December 8th.
Best of luck and rememberâŚ

Best Community Garden Round-up
What do nature, gardens, and Halloween all have in common?
Theyâve all been focal points for our competitions!
Weâve run two competitions so far - one for Wildmenderâs launch and one to celebrate Halloween. Your entries have truly been incredible, which has been wonderful to see, but very hard on us judges!
We wanted to celebrate the winners of both competitions in this post and show off just how beautiful (or scary) the gardens have been.
Launch Competition
For our launch competition, we challenged you all to create a garden with the theme âLiving in Harmony with Natureâ to celebrate our collaboration with the Rainforest Alliance, and boy did you deliver!
The grand prize for these incredible entries was a hand-made Spirit Darter plushie for the winner, a Frog plushie for second place*, and a free copy of Wildmender for third place.
Winner: Caro
Second Place: Ivefan
Third Place: Em
These three gardens embodied how one can be at harmony with nature, restoring life back to the desolate world of Wildmender.
* Ivefan graciously donated the Frog plushie to another community member, Martouf, for their incredible work on the Wildmender Wiki.
The Halloween Garden Challenge
In honour of Halloween, we ran another garden creating contest, but this time the challenge was to create the spookiest garden.
All three winners received an exclusive Wildmender wearable blanket, while the first place also received a free copy of Wildmender. The gardens were so good that we gave out an extra Wildmender blanket for our honourable mention!
Winner: Ivefan
Runner-up: Elwyndrya
Runner-up: Shimaneguy
Honourable Mention: Wolfeen
All of these gardens really sent shivers down our spines and nailed that Halloween vibe.
Weâd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in our competitions so far and itâs been such a joy looking at your incredible entries!
If you havenât had a chance to enter one of our competitions just yet, donât worry. Check out our Discord to be the first to know about any future competitions!

Wildmender November 8, 2023 Patch Notes
Hi Wildmenders! In this weekâs patch update, we are once again focused on bug fixes as well as performance improvements. Weâve just pushed a build (199a) on Steam. Because of the console certification schedule, the newest PC version of the game will temporarily not be cross-play compatible with the console version. If youâre cross-playing with friends between PC and Consoles, please see the instructions below on how to keep playing together on the last version. Looking ahead we are planning for fixes and improvements, as well as reviewing everyoneâs ideas for new content and features.
Now, onto the patch notes.
Build 199a:
Fixed the issue of Canyon Wraiths appearing outside of the canyons in multiplayer
Fixed the issue of player character stuck in constant jump on top of the titan crab
Fixed a case of items not able to be crafted in multiplayer due to missing recipe.
Fixed the issue of plants in planters teleporting to a spot in the desert upon logging in during multiplayer.
Fixed another rare case of tool duplication at Arx - if you end up with duplicate tools for some reason, reloading the game should remove them.
Fixed some specific spots in terrain where players can get stuck. Also added a cheat code in case players are stuck in terrain still. If you are stuck, hit the Enter key to call the text chat box. Then type in: /unstuck This will get you out of the sticky situation.
Fixed a rare case of loading not progressing past 25% due to a clock issue.
Added a new relay service as well as a new âNetworkâ page to settings. This allows you to directly control the gameâs use of the relay service when direct P2P connection cannot be established and something in the network may be blocking your connection to your friends. If you have issues connecting with your friends, this may help you get around them.
To use the relay service, please have you and your friends all go into Settings in the Pause Menu then click on Network. For the Always Use Relay Server option, turn it to On. Please also have the host player select the closest relay server region (the host could try a few different ones if the current one doesnât work).
Reduced overall damage dealt by Dust Storms, in particular to larger plants and structures
Reduced the chance of seeds spontaneously germinating by about half; any plant created this way also starts with the Tired status
Fixed the Brittle Scroll taking Essence instead of giving it, if read after the associated perk is fully unlocked
Fixed item spawners (such as mineral veins) not respecting an intended cap on the number of nearby buried items
Increased the Frogâs base storage size to 16. Frog movement will now cover a larger area around upgraded springs.
Removed the âaura bubbleâ from recruited Spirit Darters as it caused too much visual noise
Performance improvements:
Weâve made a number of performance improvements targeted at larger gardens, in particular to memory usage in the hopes of reducing crashes on lower-memory hardware.
The game should require less memory upon loading a large garden (by about 10-15%), and increase less over time.
Improved handling of various common VFX like essence wisps, destruction puffs, and buried item glow to prevent memory bloat.
Weâve also made some general performance improvements that will keep FPS from dropping quite as badly in large gardens:
Improved performance of various biome-related checks in dense gardens
Reduced the frequency of water mesh updates that arenât near the player (visuals only, does not affect flow behavior)
Consoles & Crossplay If you want to continue playing with friends on consoles, you can switch to the âcrossplayâ Steam beta to continue playing on the previous version.
In your Steam library right click on Wildmender, go to Properties, find the Betas tab, select the Beta Participation dropdown and select âcrossplay - For compatibility with current console buildsâ
Once this patch goes live on consoles, you can switch back to âNoneâ on the betas tab, and get playing on the latest version.
Thank you all for all your support and stay tuned for more updates!
Botanica Wildmendaria - Volume 1 đż
âI thought Iâd be easy prey for those Wraiths. So tired, thirsty, hungry. But this barren place is magical. Plants Iâve never seen, with properties as if they understand my needs. If you are unfortunate enough to find this book, use my drawings. Save yourself. Survive.â
Thorntail
âI donât recommend eating these, as just a small bite left me feeling queasy. However, when crushed, it has healing properties.â
A bushy pointed plant, capable of surviving in almost any environment. Its seed pods are slow to grow and mildly poisonous, but were cultivated for medicinal purposes. Several types of Thorntail are known, with medicinal experts finding hybrids that have a soothing sap. There are even rumours of a variant that has grown hardy brambles, which are designed to dissuade attackers or bind intruders.
Monument Mushroom
âOnly eat if you have no other options. The shade they provided was well welcomed.â
A strange fungus that grows to immense size. It absorbs and neutralises corruption. They enjoy the natural shade and humidity that the Canyons provide. Monument shelves can come in many different forms and sizes and, while edible, the toxins running through them make them less than palatable.
Rainbloom Cactus
âThe holy grail of edible desert plants. I could eat these for days. The saving grace of this wasteland.â
A flowering cactus that can survive the harsh desert. It once bloomed in the rain, but will now give up its fruit in exchange for some gentle encouragement from your flask. The fruit is surprisingly tasty, with a slightly sour undertone. It is incredibly juicy and, as such, is ideal as a travel snack.
The rest of the pages are torn, the ink faded. Perhaps, though, there may be a way to restore them?

Meet Naia - The Mother of Rivers đŻ
And the last known survivor plants their seeds in the night. And she's watching us all with the eye of the tiger. đŻ
Naia, the Mother of Rivers and Goddess of Water and Growth, is the first god you will meet on your journey through the desert in Wildmender. This gentle tiger goddess once ruled the luscious dunes, before the wraiths turned them into a wasteland. With you by her side, she wants to take back the dunes and restore this barren landscape to its former glory, one seed at a time.
âWater is life, life is water, and Naia the mother of both.â
Despite concerns from some of the other gods, Naia brought you back into the world of Wildmender to help restore the wastelands and free them from corruption. The dunes she once ruled were home to many farmers and medicinal experts, but thatâs long since been forgotten. Her nurturing eye isnât trained on the rivers alone, as she keeps you under her watchful gaze and protects you along your journey like a loving parent. At times, it may seem like sheâs hiding some of her past and powers, even from you.
Naia will provide aid to you throughout your adventure. Using water and essence, she can create Blessed Drops, which can either be consumed for water, as an antitoxin, or used to restore blocked springs throughout the world.
Take a Tarnished Talisman to her and she can restore it to be a Flame Talisman - shifting the power of fire away from the vicious wraiths and into your hands.
Oh, and donât forget to bring her favourite offering - Acorns! They may be the key to your goal of restoration.

Win a Wildmender Wearable Blanketđ
Tis the season to be spooky đ
To celebrate, weâll be running a new garden competition. We want to see your spookiest gardens!
The top three winners will all receive an exclusive Wildmender wearable blanket to keep themselves warm and cozy this autumn, while the first place winner will also receive a grow-your-own-pumpkin kit! Rather fitting, if we do say so ourselves.
To enter, post a screenshot of your spooky Wildmender garden in the #halloween-challenge channel of our Discord before Halloween, Tuesday 31st October. We will then pick the gardens we feel have best captured the Halloween spirit and will reveal the winners on Friday 3rd November.
We look forward to seeing your BOO-tiful gardens đť
Disclaimer: If the winner is located in a country where the pumpkin seeds cannot be delivered, they will receive a free copy of Wildmender as a replacement prize.

Wildmender October 18, 2023 Patch Notes
Hi Wildmenders! In this weekâs patch update, we are continuing to focus on bug fixes, addressing quite a few of the issues that youâve reported. Weâve just pushed a build (197a) on Steam. Meanwhile weâre continuing to go through everyoneâs feedback, with more fixes and improvements coming. Thank you so much for all the support and beautiful gardens, and a very special thanks once again to everyone thatâs submitted bug reports.
Now, onto the patch notes.
Build 197a:
Fixed a rare case of the crab not moving to the outpost properly, resulting in the outpost not being destroyed and the next outpost cannot be interacted with.
A certain key item dropped by the final boss will be auto-collected if no player collects it after 60 seconds (fixes a case where it could drop inside a rock)
Fixed more behavioral problems for the frog, such as the frog wandering a great distance from the home spring (to nearby Mystical Springs) as well as its disappearance.
Fixed a new and rare case of the giant crab just squatting on top of a spring, not allowing it to be restored.
Fixed the issue of a wrongly highlighted spring in zone revival
The recipe for the Sky Bracelet becomes visible at the Workbench after Vidyas first mentions it, instead of later in the quest
Clarified text of the âPlant a group of X plantsâ ghost quests to specify that they must be mature
Fixed the issue of the display reading "Item +0" instead of the item count when picking up items
Fixed an issue where the health loss on carried plants could kill the plant
Fixed an issue where saving during an active Dust Storm could create extra storm objects
Photo Mode screenshots are now written to the same user data directory that contains saves, instead of to the Steam install directory. Fixes a case where screenshots could be deleted if the game updated.
When very large numbers of loose items are present, the game will automatically combine nearby valid stacks in the world to reduce performance issues. This check is done upon loading and periodically at dawn.
Some non-spoiling items will now be destroyed over time if theyâre underwater. This includes Wood, Plant Fibers, Bone Fragments, Knotwood, and Frozen Essence
Increased the rate at which items in water spoil (from 200% to 400%)
Seeds from plants that cannot drown (such as Glowsticks) will no longer automatically germinate in very deep water (where they might be unreachable)
Reduced the bonus to Harvest Yield from Thriving conditions (from 150% to 125%)
After this patch update, we will continue to work on fixing more bugs that people reported as well as focusing on performance optimization. Definitely stay tuned for more improvements!
Thank you all for all your support!
Wildmender October 11th, 2023 Patch Notes
Hi there Wildmenders! Weâve got another update live on Steam right now, fixing some of the biggest issues youâve helped us spot so far! Weâre also working hard on getting this version out for consoles as soon as possible, and youâll hear from us again once that goes live. However, this time around the newest PC version of the game will not be crossplay compatible with the console version until that update goes live! If youâre cross-playing with friends between PC and Consoles, please see the instructions below on how to keep playing together on the last version.
Thank you so much for all the beautiful gardens youâve shared with us. And thank you for all the feedback, bug reports, and concerns youâve raised with us so far. Weâre still sorting through all of it, but itâs thanks to you all that weâve been able to fix many of these issues already. Weâve even gotten a few quality of life issues in this time around, and we hope to continue to make both technical and gameplay improvements in the coming weeks.
Now with all that said, onto the patch notes!
Corrupted Saves We know itâs frustrating to lose many hours of work on a garden. In case of rare file corruption issues, weâve added a save backup feature that will automatically copy the previous version of your world to a separate location before each save attempt.
Find your backup save here. C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME]\AppData\LocalLow\Muse Games\Wildmender\backup\ You may need to enable viewing hidden files.
If you attempt to load a corrupted save file, the game will now show an error message and return to the main menu instead of being stuck on the loading screen indefinitely.
If you encounter a corrupted save, copying the backup save to the worlds folder at C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME]\AppData\LocalLow\Muse Games\Wildmender\worlds\ will allow you to access and play it. You are free to rename the backup save. Do note, the backup saves may be missing the last few minutes of your previous play session.
Wellstone Issues While the world of Wildmender starts out dry as bone, weâve watched you industriously irrigate it - sometimes more than you meant to. Weâve made a few improvements to water sources to help you along:
Added several recipes to restored Springs and Wellstones to allow players to control water production
âLow Water Flowâ - 10% of normal
âModerate Water Flowâ - 50% of normal
âHigh Water Flowâ - 100% of normal
Fixed a number of issues with Wellstones failing to link with a host spring, or unlinking unexpectedly.
If a Wellstone has a valid connection to multiple host springs, it will now favor the closest with capacity.
Inventory Management Weâve seen some incredible, and incredibly productive, gardens created by players. This patch includes some small changes to make managing your inventories easier - we have more planned on this front that is coming soon, as this has performance implications as well.
Improved stacking behavior when drag & dropping items between your backpack and a storage basket. Dragging items onto a stack in the other inventory will now attempt to combine the stacks if valid, instead of just swapping.
Increased the item capacity of Storage Baskets from 8 to 16 (upgrading them to Big Baskets adds another 8)
Increased the inventory stack limits on some common items
Wood, Plant Fibers: 30 -> 99
Sandstone: 30 -> 50
Copper, Flint, Bone Fragments, Frozen Essence: 20 -> 30
Blessed Drop: 5 -> 10
The Frog will now travel through water to pick up underwater items
Fixed several bugs that could cause the Frog to stop collecting items
Reduced passive drops of Wood and Plant Fibers from plants in restored biomes (no longer increases from growth rate above 100%)
Quest Issues and Blockers
Added a map/compass icon for Runic Gears that have dropped from the containing chest but not yet been picked up.
Fixed canceling the Move action (right-clicking while moving) making the target object unable to be moved again.
Fixed players becoming unable to pick up another plant if the plant they were carrying died (due to environmental damage etc)
Fixed an issue where certain upgrades to the sickle, spade, bottle, and mirror would fail to remove the tools they were upgrading, and in some instances prevent players from picking up new tools necessary to progress the game.
Other Improvements
Slightly increased the blocking/interaction radius of Oracle Trees to better match their fully-grown model - this should fix Giant Oracle Trees in particular being difficult to interact with.
Reduced size and noisiness of particles on newly-harvestable seeds
Fixed wraith attack warning UI overflowing in German
Fixed some Chinese translations
Fixed Librarian shirt and pants dying incorrectly
Fixed missing projectile VFX on the Soldier Bee Sigilâs attack
Some small performance optimizations to the Canyons
Consoles & Crossplay Unfortunately some of the fixes weâve made in Build 196 have made this version incompatible in multiplayer with the version currently available on consoles. If you want to continue playing with friends on consoles, you can switch to the âcrossplayâ Steam beta to continue playing on the previous version.
In your Steam library right click on Wildmender, go to Properties, find the Betas tab, select the Beta Participation dropdown and select âcrossplay - For compatibility with current console buildsâ
Once this patch goes live on consoles (hopefully later this week or early next week), you can switch back to âNoneâ on the betas tab, and get playing on the latest version.
Thanks so much everyone again for your incredible support!
