Only 6 more days before the big release, how exciting! We are so close to our finish we can almost taste it… That also means we fix, we test and we polish everything over and over again. You’ve all been a tremendous help and support to us throughout the development and we hope you stick around for this final lap.
Twitchin’ from the kitchen
CEO Wim is back in town and eager to talk about his press tour adventures in the USA, where he’s been promoting Woolfe both on GDC and PAX East. Curious to hear all about it? Then we invite you to come to tonight’s Twitch stream which will be held, for once, live from Wim’s kitchen.
Tonight/Tuesday at 7 GMT:

Lend me your voice, Granny!
‘Granny #4’, as we’ve been calling her, finished her recordings and, my goodness, she sounds AMAZING. We’re sure you’ll love her too and we can’t wait to show you -or, you know, let you hear her :-)

Changelog
Added/updated audio
We’ve added some new ambient sounds to a handful of things throughout the game. For example: the rafts in the harbor and the poison clouds during the big sewer rat fight. And we fixed the clock-ticking sounds in the sewers as well.
Localization
There were a couple of subtitles missing in some of the added languages. This should have been fixed now. The Dutch and German Diary Unlocks are now completed as well, along with the Diary navigation.
Bugfixes
No more odd collisions when trying to go for one of the secret in the harbour.
Rats or collision should no longer kill you when the Piper pushes you off his platform.
Fixed Red’s foot placement on the crane and the wolf-traps in the tutorial level.
No more strange rooftop collision in the tutorial level.
The edges of the chariot in the market will no longer kill you. The platform reset in that same level should be fixed now as well.
Fixes some issues with the poison when you respawn at the rat fight.
Fixed the crash bug related to an AI issue.
You should not be getting a damage border when loading or respawning in a level.
Pied Piper cinematic update
When you encounter the Pied Piper on the bridge in the harbour, the timing of the camera-shake was a bit off. Not any more!
Forest chase
Red’s comments during the chase in the forest level should be working fine now.
VSync
The VSync works now! This should fix some issues people have had in the past with screen-tearing.
Combo’s
When your 3 vials of magic are filled, you can now do 3 combo’s. Also, when performing a combo when the tooltip pops up now guarantees a successful action.
Camera view
There were a couple of instances in which an object would block your camera view. Mainly in the beginning of the sewer level. We made a few tweaks here and there so you can now clearly see what you’re doing.
Character spawning
All characters should now be spawning on the ground.
Subtitle font change
While trying to add other languages, we noticed some characters not being displayed... The new font should have all characters included!
Ok, dearest Birdies, that’s all!
Don’t forget the livestream later today!
Greets,
The Woolfe pack
Sunday Update
Dearest early birds,
So, how did our traditional Friday update become a Sunday update? Well, we worked our asses off to push out a build (and update) on Friday, but some things went pretty wrong there. Some of you may have seen and played the buggy build that should have never gone live: especially to those, we apologize. That was not the quality we meant to deliver to you. We took down the buggy build within a few hours and put the older version back online so we could continue fixing, which we did all weekend long. With a little delay, you can now find a decent updated Woolfe on Steam.
Now, let us take you through the other stuff that went on over the past few days.
Twitch Stream Reminder
GRIN’s Wim Wouters has spent this week in the US, talking to press at GDC and PAX. By Tuesday, he will be back in Belgium and happily give you all a report on how things have been. Meet our big boss Tuesady at 8 PM GMT on our Twitch channel: http://www.twitch.tv/WoolfeGame
Granny update
Follwing the public casting, we contacted your and our favorite voice actresses for the part of Granny. Number 3 and 4 were everyone’s favorites and we are super excited to confirm now that Granny #4 is on board and recording her scenes as we speak! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD8etg65xHw). She’s gonna kick ass as Red’s grandma!
Changelog
So what’s in today’s build, you wonder?
Adjustable difficulties You will now be able to play the game on three different difficulty settings: Easy, Medium and Hard. Think you’re up for that?
Toy Soldier editor integration The Kickstarter backers will be pleased to know that the Toy Soldier editor is now integrated in-game! While you’re playing the game, there’s a chance you’ll encounter one of these customized soldiers. Once it’s defeated, you will see a notification on screen. These will give you extra skill-points you can afterwards use to add more upgrades to your own Toy Soldier.
(The Toy Soldier Editor is a feature for Kickstarter backers only but none-kickstarter backers can still encounter these creations in-game. You are able to remove this option in the settings menu.)
Sewer boss-fight cutscene We realized there were some people who had difficulty understanding what they were supposed to do when they encountered the giant sewer rat. To fix that problem we integrated a new cutscene at the beginning of the fight.
Shadow tweaking We’ve made some adjustments concerning Red’s own shadow and we think it actually looks a lot more realistic and believable now.
Boss fight icons During a boss fight, you can now see that their health bars on the right hand side are accompanied by a little icon with their face on it.
Bugfixes No update would be complete without some bugfixes. These include:
Checkpoints: There were some issues with some checkpoints in the past. No need to worry about missing a checkpoint now.
Tutorial: In the Tutorial level, all jumps should now be doable in a single jump.
Forest chase: The traps in the forest chase level now do damage. As they should.
Collision fixes: There have been a lot of collision fixes, mainly in the Pied Piper hideout and the market chase.
Dutch subtitles Along with English, French and German, we’ve now added Dutch subtitles to the game. They should all be working now. Dutch unlockable content and menu stuff still needs to be implemented and adjusted.
A big, warm ‘thank you’ to everyone who helped us with the localization! You’re truly amazing people and we’re very glad we have some devoted fans who were willing to lend us a hand!
We’d also like to ask our French, German, Dutch (and English) speaking community to keep an eye out for any flaws or mistakes in the subtitles and report them to us so we can correct them.
Meanwhile at the office…
We’re also working on lots of stuff you can not see (just yet). The localisation process is in full progress (Japanese, Russian and Spanish), we’re doing some Red re-recordings, having some new music delivered, we’re finishing off the final boss fight and scenes and are working hard on a new Woofle website for the launch of the game. Artist Bram had a lot of fun with the designs so far. Especially highlighting our game’s features :-)
That’s all folks!
See you Tuesday on Twitch?
-The Woolfe Pack
Special Twitch Reminder
Hello there, early birds!
Today’s Twitch Stream will be a bit different from the previous ones. That’s because, this time, CEO Wim will be streaming… live from San Francisco! We’re all curious to hear what he’s been up to over there at GDC.
Attention! Because of the different time zone, today’s stream will be held at 12 PM PST (8 PM GST) Simply follow this link to our Twitch Channel: http://www.twitch.tv/WoolfeGame
Granny, what nice voice you have (follow-up)
The voice auditions have come to an end. We’ve received a lot of very helpful comments from you guys and we’ve now selected our favorites!
We reached out to our favorite Grannies (Nr. 3 and 4) and hope to hear from them very soon. At this point, we’re unable to say which one will be our finalist as this will depend on the availability of our chosen voice actor. But we will definitely keep you posted when we know more!
Alright birdies, that’s it for now!
See you later! (On tonight’s stream, perhaps? Don’t forget!)
-The Woolfe Pack
Fairytale Friday (Part 2)
Rise and shine, early birds!
Since we were unable to provide a new build last Tuesday, we’ll have a big one today! It’s only 18 more days before the big release and it’s ‘all hands on deck’ right now. Let’s have a look at what we’ve been up to, shall we?
Twitch: Live from GDC
Next Tuesday, March 3rd, it’s time for our special edition Twitch Livestream. Wim will be meeting with press in the USA all through next week and he’ll Twitch live from GDC in San Francisco. Definitely worth checking out! Exact timing to be confirmed.
Granny, what nice voice you have!
It was great to see so many of you have casted your votes on the Granny Voice Audition. Number 4 was everyone’s favorite by a long shot… including the devs’! It’s awesome to see we all mutually agree on this so far. We’re still receiving a lot of auditions and will close the submissions on Tuesday. Who knows, there might still be an even better Granny out there. Until then, #4 will remain our current favorite. We’ll keep you posted!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD8etg65xHw
Localization
Another update on the localization/subtitle front: Woolfe writer Yasmin is currently finalizing the Dutch subtitles (and she’s super happy to be writing in her mother tongue again for a change!). We hope to implement the Dutch version before the next update.
Changelog
Alright, time for this week’s changelog... Update should be online in a few hours!
Boss fight As you can well imagine, we worked the most on the big boss fight since last update. And it’s as good as done! We don’t want to give out any spoilers just yet, you’ll have to wait 2 more weeks for that. But maybe a little sneak peek will do (check the image at the top of this post).
Toy soldier creator For the kickstarter backers we released a Toy Soldier Creator last week. (Yeah, sorry guys, this is for our backer army ONLY). Some people pointed out that their soldier would not save properly and was being reset every time they came back to their account. This problem has been fixed now.
Bugfixes This one is getting old, isn’t it…? There were a lot of (minor) bugs that needed fixing. The never-ending struggle. Some of the bugs we fixed include the well-known crashbug in the Forest Adrift and the not-spawning wolves after the chase.
Sound changes The pinging sound when picking up the magic orbs the enemies drop have been changed to something more... pleasing. We’ve also added ambient sounds in the forest, by the lake and in the city.
New death animation We have a new animation for Red for when she’s killed by grinders. Oh joy!
Story mode walk We realized the previous walking animation during the story-mode scenes was far too slow and was getting on everyone’s nerves. Story-mode-run is back...
Chapter select boss fight You’ll now be able to directly select your boss fight in the chapter select option without having to go through the previous level to get there.
Combat balancing We worked on balancing the health and magic drops during combat.
The fairies are back! Floating Islands have become a little more dangerous again. Watch your back for the fairies attack!
Tooltips We implemented some tooltips for the use of combos.
Main-Menu We found back the old forest-menu.
Alright birdies, that’s all for now!
We’ll be back on Tuesday!
Enjoy your weekend,
-The Woolfe Pack
Tick-tok-tick-tok
Three weeks till countdown!
Let’s start with the “bad news”: as you have probably noticed by now: no new build or livestream today. We know you were all expecting one but there are a couple of reasons why we decided that today is not a good day for a build or stream.
As you know, we are very busy working on the final scenes of the game and we can’t possibly publish any spoilers. You’ll have to find out what happens to Red by yourself. We don’t want to spoil the magic.
Also, CEO Wim leaves on an important trip to America to showcase Woolfe at GDC and Pax before the big release. That means we now all have to pitch in and make sure everything looks the best it can be and that what we have so far is properly polished. Releasing another build today would take up too much of our -already- limited amount of time.
For next week’s Twitch stream, however, we have a special treat for you, Early Birds.
Because Wim will be at GDC, he’ll give you a live-report from there. Stay tuned for specifics...
But wait, there’s even more good news!
There is, in fact, something you could help us with.
We’ve sent out a casting call for the voice of Granny. Even in this short amount of time, a lot of people have auditioned and tried to capture the essence of good ol’ Granny. (Alright, granted, there were a couple of funny ones in there as well. :p )
We made a little pre-selection of our favorites so far and listed them below.
And THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN: it’s voting time!
Which of these voices do you think would make the best Granny?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD8etg65xHw
See you again this Friday for the next update!
-The Woolfe Pack
Fairytale Friday
Hi early birds!
26 Days till launch! Tension is rising. And, like every Friday, here’s an update of what we’ve been doing and how Woolfe is progressing.
Kickstarter - Toy Soldiers
First of all a small update for our Kickstarter backers. You can now edit and customize your online Toy Soldier via your personal login page: http://army.woolfegame.com
Localisation
Good news on the localisation front. As for now, we can confirm that Woolfe should be available in the following languages upon launch:
English
Dutch
French
German
Spanish
Japanese
(hopefully Russian too)
Please note: there may be additional langauges available upon launch, but as for now, the abovementioned ones are the ones we can guarantee. If your language is not listed, that does not mean Woolfe won’t be available in your langauge. We just can’t promise getting a qualitative translation ready by March 17th just yet.
We’d like to thank everyone who helped us out with the community translations, especially the French Team that has been having a lot of fun, but also doing a very high quality translations. (Next build will have French subtitles available for testing)
If you’re interested and have a way with words, you can still join the translators community and help us out by filling in some missing bits or adding languages right here:
https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/woolfe
DEADLINE: February 27th
In order to ensure enough time for implementation of all languages, we will close the tool at the end of February. After that we will be running everything by native speaking professional editors for quality check and start implementation.
Twitch Reminder
YES, next Tuesday we’re back for another Twitch Stream!
This week you chose for a Q&A with our lead programmer Jelle. Next week, you will have the choice again, a Q&A with writer Yasmin on the story OR a Q&A with lead artist Davy & concept artist Bram! Let us know who you would prefer to see in the comments!
Changelog
Today’s new build has a couple of new features and fixes, including:
Sewer rat fight: Fixed most of the bugs we found and are working on polishing it a bit more. The animation should run smoother now, no more collision problems, etc. Also, the big rat will definitely attack you now but we still need to alter the attack animation.
Forest: This level still needs a lot of love, and we're working on that. The thing you'll notice most is the camera angles that should be a lot better already.
Subtitles: The French subtitles are now implemented! You’ll now be able to chose between English subs or French.
Bug fixes: Goodness, they never end, do they…? Patched up a lot of bugs all over the game and constantly keeping an eye on others.
BUT...
...there is a new crashbug in the system since the last build Tuesday. We're trying hard to find it, reverting to older backups to see when the error first occurred so we can find a fix. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? Well we can't give you a new update until we find and fix this bug, so please be patient, we're doing our best to get the update out on schedule...
Other stuff!
CEO Wim will be going to GDC in San Francisco to promote Woolfe for the big release! If you're also going, let him know, he might have some goodies to hand out... If you a reporter or youtuber and want do an interview at the event, let him know too! he'll be happy to tell you all about Woolfe.
Aaand… we’re working on the finishing touches of the final Big Bad Boss fight. Oooh yes, the fight against Woolfe himself! We can’t show you any spoilers yet but take it from us: It will be awesome!
Alright birdies, that’s it for this week’s update!
We’ll see you soon!
-The Woolfe team
Let's talk about Combat!
G’morning, Birdies!
Twitch stream reminder
The Tuesday Twitch Tradition continues!
During our last update, we gave you the choice between two topics.
And you chose….
*drumroll*
A Q&A with our lead programmer Jelle!
He’ll be talking about the in-game combat.
There have been a couple of big, important changes lately concerning the combat and a lot of you seemed to be having some questions. Perfect time to join our stream and get those questions answered!
ATTENTION!
Tonight’s stream will start an hour earlier than the ones we’ve held before!
Today/Tuesday at 9 PM CET ( 12 PM PST)
http://www.twitch.tv/WoolfeGame
See you there!
-The Woolfe Team
Twitch recap & Friday update
Hello birdies!
We were very pleased to see last Tuesday’s Twitch stream had even more watchers than the one before. And, of course, of all the nice reviews we received and the constructive comments you all gave us.
We took you through the Forest Adrift level to check which areas need some improvements. We discovered the difficult areas along with a bug here and there that we’ll be fixing soon. (I’m looking at you, glitching fairies.)
Next Twitch: you pick! Ok, so for our next Twitch session (on Tuesday, February 17th) we have two possible topics on the menu:
A Q&A with lead programmer Jelle on “the combat”
A Q&A with writer Yasmin on “the story”
Let us know which talk you would prefer in the comments section below this post. The most favored one is the one we’ll serve next tuesday!
Change log
It’s Friday so you know what that means: A new build! This build will be available later today in your Steam library so keep an eye out for this new update. We’ve fixed some bugs, added a couple new, cool features and still continue on polishing the game before the big release!
So… What has changed this week?
Story Mode: In addition to the previous build (in which Red could now no longer run, jump and fight in the narrative areas of the game) we also changed her animation during these scenes.
Sewer Bossfight: The small rats in the sewers are now not the only ones attacking Red any more. Better watch out for the giant rat you’ll now have to fight as well!
Combat Balancing: Along with the new key bindings integrated last week, we’ve continued to work on better balancing the combat. Mainly: the marketplace and the harbour. Your feedback is very much appreciated and we’d love to hear what you think about this new feature.
Mini-Market Removed: To prevent any further frustrations, we’ve removed the mini-market from the game and replaced it with the original ‘dancing guards’ again. We felt that it’d be better if we develop on the mini-market a bit better before putting it back in the game.
Wooden Bridge fixed: In the Forest Adrift level, you might have noticed there is a collapsible wooden bridge. The problem was that, when you died and respawned, the bridge was still broken. We managed to fix this bug and the wooden bridge should now reset properly.
Achievements and trading cards
A few days ago we asked you all for inspiration for (Steam) achievements and so far, we’ve received some really cool suggestions on our Facebook and Twitter channels. Keep them coming, guys! Meanwhile, the team is preparing all the artwork for the Steam badges and trading cards and will be ready to go soon.
That’s all folks!
See you next Tuesday.
Cheers,
The Woolfe Pack
Forest-a-Twitch & Achievements request
Greetings, early birds!
There’s been a slight change of plans for the Twitch stream tonight. Last friday, we invited you to come join us on Twitch for another brainstorm. However, instead of discussing combat upgrades, we’ll now be taking you for a walk through the Forest Adrift. (Yes, the level with the floating platforms.) We’ll mainly be looking at some of the difficult areas and talk about how we can improve those.
Today/Tuesday at 10 PM CET (4 PM EST) http://www.twitch.tv/WoolfeGame
So join us on Twitch later today to share your ideas!
We’ll be glad to have you around!
SOS Achievements
While we were working on the achievements for the final installment of the game, we figured this would also be something really fun for you to help us out with.
What do you think would be some clever, funny, original achievements for the game? Let’s get those creative juices flowing! We’d love to hear your thoughts on the Steam forum our Facebook and Twitter channels.
Localisation Update
Good job on the translations so far, thanks for helping us out!
The French and German subtitles should be up and running very soon and several other languages are making great progress as well. Yay!
If you would like to play Woolfe in your own language, you can still join the translators community or help us out by filling in some missing bits right here:
https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/woolfe
*Not all text elements have been added to the system yet. We're testing with City subtitles and Diary texts first. If this goes well, we’ll integrate the other texts.
Some parts are machine-translated and, as you’d have guessed, not exactly very accurate. (We had our fair share of laughs with these literal translations. :p) Do feel free to correct them, of course. Once these are all approved by a professional native editor and the missing gaps are all filled in, we can put them in-game. The more, the merrier!
That’ll be it for today’s update!
Hope to see you on Twitch tonight!
-The Woolfe team
Twitch recap, Friday build & Subtitle language crowd-sourcing.
Gooood morning, early birds!
What a week and a half this has been!
Thanks to you; our wonderful community; we’ve received an astonishing amount of helpful feedback, detailed bug reports, creative suggestions and highly appreciated support. Taking everyone’s reviews into account, we’re working hard on polishing the game. One step closer to the big release! (Exciting!)
Thank you all for helping us out so far. Keep up the amazing work, guys!
Twitch Brainstorm Follow-up
Last Tuesday, we held our first community brainstorm on Twitch. The first of many, for sure! Luckily, everything ran smoothly. Nobody held back on ideas and suggestions concerning a boss fight in the sewers.
Missed the stream? Don’t worry! You can re-watch it right here: http://www.twitch.tv/woolfegame/b/620035048
Out of all the things we’ve discussed, there were a couple of things we found very interesting and which we’re trying to put into action.
A giant rat as ‘mini’-boss. Including some hordes of smaller rats. (The big mother and her babies)
When defeated, she breaks the gate through which you can continue your pursuit of the Piper.
Poisonous gas. The green gas coming from the two vents on either side of the open sewer pipe is currently not poisonous but making it poisonous could provide an extra level of difficulty for Red whilst fighting the rat hordes.
Etc...
Next Tuesday’s Twitch
Thanks to success of last Tuesday’s stream, we’ve decided to make this a weekly thing. So next tuesday we’ll be back on Twitch with some more live updates -including our progress on the sewer level boss rat- and another brainstorm session.
This time the theme will be: ‘Combat upgrades’. Have a little think and if you’d like to share your ideas on how to improve the in-game combat, we’d be more than happy to hear them from you during our next Twitch stream. (Or, as always, in our community forums!)
FRIDAY BUILD V 2.0.5 - Change log:
It’s Friday again, that means another build! With every build we’re fixing as much bugs as possible, but we’re also trying to add some and fix some other stuff… Build will be available later today, so keep an eye on your Steam library for updates!
Story mode: Red can no longer run, jump and fight in the narrative area’s of the game.
Chase level: You know the level where you have to run away from the camera and the electro guards were chasing you? Or actually not really chasing you... ;) Should be fixed now!
First subtitles: We’ve included a test for the subtitles in the new build. They are currently translated by Microsoft Online Translator System. You can imagine this gives a few very strange results.
WE NEED YOU (...for translations this time)
The English subtitles are now completed and should be fully implemented in-game! Whoo-hoo! But... that’s only the beginning. Our goal is to translate these subtitles in many different languages. And for that, we need your help.
Basically, we’re looking for volunteers who are willing and able to help us out with this.
The link below will take you to ‘Transifex’. There you can find all snippets of texts, categorized per language. The more help we get, the sooner these will all be filled and the sooner we can start the implementation.
Interested? Click right here: https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/woolfe
*Before we release all translations will be checked and corrected by a professional native editor for each language to ensure highest possible quality standards.
*Some texts have been auto-translated. You will find some funny and crazy translations here and there. Feel free to correct them ;)
