To further try to improve the game performance we will switch the HDD in our DB Server to SSD this morning. For this we need a two hour maintenance starting 10AM German time.

Info on how to register
we are still getting a lot of questions or error reports so we are summarizing again how the accounts work:
1) To play WoF on Steam you need to create a (new) InselGames account which will be linked to your SteamID.
2) To do this, click the "Register"-Button inside the game client (after hitting "Play" in the Patcher). Do NOT register directly on our website (this is only for the stand-alone client which you can download there - which is otherwise identical!)
3) To login to the Steam version of the game, you need to use the Steam client AND be logged into the Steam-account that you used for registering into the game.
Please note: you must confirm your account within two weeks by clicking the link in the confirmation email otherwise your account will be deleted. Check your Spam-Filter in case you did not receive an email.

we are getting a lot of questions and see some recurring themes in the reviews so we want to address them here:
Is WoF an authentic Fishing simulator?
While we believe WoF is the most realistic Fishing MMO, the gameplay itself is more arcade style and heavily influenced by MMORPGs. However, the game has an advanced Fish AI and many other simulation factors.
Why is WoF to easy and simple?
If you play the tutorial and first maps you might feel the gameplay is like that - but it is not once you level up and try to catch bigger fish! Suddenly the right equipment and bait becomes important as well as finding the best spots. Fighting with the fish can take up to 20 minutes as you are moving your boat and executing swings at the right time - the game becomes a challenge even for Core Gamers.
Is WoF Pay to Win?
Absolutely not! You can enjoy all the content without spending money and in fact a lot of high level players have never spend a dime. It will just take more time and effort to catch fish but you can still get them. Further more most items are available in 30day versions for In-Game Currency (Shells) which you earn from selling your fish (don't throw away!). Purchased Pearl items are mostly marginally better and permanent (while you get some timed Pearl items for free as quest rewards!).
But I read I have to buy fuel...
Yes, you can buy fuel. However you will get Fuel for free as a daily login reward and from completing quests which you can even collect and store. In the beginning you cannot use up all your fuel and even with big boats in high levels the free amount is enough for a few hours of gameplay every day!
I read the Pearl items are only rented for 30 days
This is also not really true, even though the items in the beginner pack are timed (to give you a chance at trying them for low price) and you get some timed Pearl Items for free as quest rewards. But Pearl Equipment, Boats and Clothing are permanent (this system was changed by us)!
How can I play WoF on Steam?
To play WoF on Steam you need to create a (new) InselGames account which will be linked to your SteamID. You will do this from within the game, not our website!

What is the starter pack DLC for? How does it work
The starter pack DLC gives you Pearls normally priced 14,99€ (~16,50USD) for less than half (with the launch discount) which should be enough for a full range of (permanent) Pearl items. You will get a Steam DLC code and use this in our Pearl shop. More info here.
The tutorial voice is horrible!
Yes... we know. The current voice was a placeholder and we did not manage to update it with the final voice overs which are already recorded. We will do this with the next patch!
The game is laggy when I put my fish in the livewell or accept a quest!
Yes, we are aware of that. With the Steam launch we more than quadrupled our player base and thus encountered performance issues with our servers. We have already more than doubled our server capacity and the CPU usage is below 50% so we are trying to identify the bottle neck. We believe the game is still very playable but understand this is an inconvenience for which we are really sorry! (Please keep in mind the Steam CCU does not include the web users which are on the same server)

Lagg Issues
Update 2: Today's maintenance did not bring the success we wanted. The new hardware is working nicely (less than 50% CPU used) but we are still having delays for accepting quests or selling fish. While they do not affect the gameplay itself we know it can be annyoing and we are really sorry for that. As a next step we have temporarily de-activated the ranking on our website in the hope it will improve performance - however we have yet to find the reason and ask for your patience!
Update: We are live again!
To upgrade our server infrastructure and hopefully get rid of the laggs, we need to do a short (20min) maintenance at 3PM (GMT+1) today.
Please log out of the game. We will post once we are back online.

Server down for Maintenance
We are finished with the Server maintenance and you should be able to log in now. We hope the performance will be much improved and login issues mostly solved. If you still experience problems please let us know in our forums. Have fun fishing! :)
Dear Community,
We are having an extended server maintenance today to fix the login and performance issues. The server will be offline for about 6 hours. The maintenance will start 10:30 and will end around 16:30 CEST.

UPDATE12: Since there were no more lagg or login issues reported, we asked Steam to enable the download again! Please let us know in case of any issues!
UPDATE11: Hey everyone, the server is back online and the issues should be solved - let us know if any more login issues ("channel full") appear!
UPDATE10: We think we might have found the reason for the "Channel Full"-issue. But we need to restart the servers. So please log out.
UPDATE9: While our developers are working to isolate the issue we have asked Steam to stop taking new players in. This means existing players can continue to play (if you already downloaded the game) but new players cannot. This will reduce server load and stabilize the servers. The Download option will be back once the server issues are solved.
UPDATE8: Hello everyone, it seems we are still experiencing server issues and we are still investigating them. They are different in nature, however, so we are getting somewhere. A few hundred people are in fact playing right now. If you want to help us isolate the causes, please post in the sticky forum thread if you still have login issues. Thank you!
UPDATE7: With the maintenance today server performance was much increased and login issues and laggs should be gone now. If you have any further issues please report them in our forum.
UPDATE6: We are still hitting the cap on the players somewhere ("channel full"). We are investigating where the bottle neck is and ask those that get the error message to be patient.
UPDATE5: Servers are back up. We hope everything is smooth now.
UPDATE4: We are doing another maintenance to add more juice to our DB server. The server will be down for 15-20mins.
UPDATE3: We are aware of the error message "full channel" and are working to fix this with more hardware. Stay tuned.
UPDATE2: the server should be back now and it should work! We will continue to monitor the situation.
UPDATE: We are shutting down the servers for a quick maintenance now so we can take the additional servers online.

World of Fishing now on Steam
finally we have launched WoF on Steam!
You can enjoy the game for free by downloading it now and creating your account. The login issues are fixed.
Attention: Due to Steam regulations it is unfortunately not possible to play the Steam version with any account created on our website (or vice versa to play with your Steam account on our website). Except that the two versions will have the same content, events, items etc. and of course Steam and Web players will be on the same server.
Please also remember to confirm your account by clicking the link in the confirmation email as otherwise your account will be deleted after two weeks.
There will be great launch events which will boost your (new) start pretty much. Don’t miss it! See you on the Ocean!
