BATTLE PASS 2023: SEASON XI


Season XI of Battle Pass will be a hot topic this entire summer from May 31 through September 6. There are new Core Vehicles, each with a flashy progressive style, as well as new heroes whose adventures take them to historical lands by a big warm sea. The loot list has been improved (see the full guide below), with Experimental Equipment among the Base Rewards, gold in the Improved Rewards, and adjusted bond yields. Also, the Collection is available from the start of the Season. Finally, expect a series of Challenges that offer extra prizes, along with an additional time-limited Chapter (coming around mid-Season) that includes a Premium tank among its rewards!

The mechanics of progressing through Season XI are well known to those who played in the previous Season. Activate any Chapter, switch to another if you want, and come back later to continue from where you stopped. Try to finish every Chapter to max out the progressive styles, unlock the experienced crew members, and turn your hard-earned Battle Pass Points into additional goodies. Items for Tokens



Tokens are a special reward currency exclusive to Battle Pass. They accumulate over the course of the year from all the Battle Pass Seasons you take part in throughout 2023. In Season XI, you can earn up to 21 Tokens as Progression rewards (12 as Base Rewards and nine as Improved Rewards), plus up to three additional Tokens for gathering Collection Elements. Spend Tokens in the Items for Tokens section of the in-game Store to redeem valuable goodies, such as Bounty Equipment and nine rare Tier IX vehicles. In Season XI, you can accumulate enough Tokens to grab the BZ-58-2 or—if you saved up at least three Tokens from Season X—the KPz 3 Projekt 07 HK.


Challenges



During Season XI, Challenges will be available via the Tournaments game menu for those who play in Tier IX Battle Pass reward vehicles. That includes the newcomers to the roster: the BZ-58-2 and the KPz 3 Projekt 07 HK. Follow the news, sign up for Challenges, outperform the competition, and earn prizes!

Get Extra Rewards!



Once you complete all three main Chapters of Season XI, you'll have access to the Reward section of the in‑game Store. It's where you can spend Battle Pass Points on bonds and progressive styles, as well as crew members from previous Seasons.

The Reward section of the in-game Store will be available until September 6, 2023.

Get the Improved Pass



You can obtain the Improved Pass for any Season XI Chapter for 2,500 gold on the Battle Pass screen in your Garage. The in-game Store has real-money offers of bundles that include the Improved Pass for all Chapters, as well as value bundles. On top of giving you the full Improved Pass, value bundles allow you to receive 250 gold daily for up to 30 days if you play a single Random Battle that day.

Recon Mission 2023: Try Out Random Events and Dynamic Cover


Commanders!

Map environment interaction has always been one of the cornerstones of World of Tanks gameplay. Felling trees allows you to hide better from opponents, while sliding down a steep hill slope can help you attack your foes from the rear, and so on. We have always worked hard to keep expanding the bag of environment-related tricks players can use in battle. With Update 9.13, it became possible to fight inside buildings where you were safe from arty shelling. Later, with Update 1.0, the first destructible objects were added to serve as disposable cover.

Now the time has come for every player to try out two new map features first made available to the participants of the Update 1.20.1 Common Test: random events and dynamic cover. From May 15, play in the Recon Mission 2023 mode (accessible via the mode selector) and share your opinions with us in the updated questionnaires!


The addition of random events and dynamic cover makes gameplay richer and more varied while staying true to its basics. Random events give you a fresh selection of interesting opportunities once they happen, each with the potential to tip the scales of battle, and dynamic cover (which can be moved around the battlefield) gives you an open invitation to improvise. With these new features, your tactical awareness and inventiveness are rewarded more than ever. What’s important is that the gameplay enhancements you can experience in Recon Mission 2023 are just what we are ready to release for testing—and it’s only the beginning!


Random Events: Part and Parcel of Maps



A random event significantly impacts a large area of its map, creating new paths for vehicles and/or blocking existing ones, producing new cover and firing positions. One of the main goals of random events is shaking up the situation on the battlefield. Their locations (shown in the widget below) are most likely familiar to you as spots where fighting may come to a stalemate. Random events can break up deadlocks by offering both sides fresh tactical opportunities.

Random events are designed as integral parts of the locations in which they happen and are related to their setting. For example, Safe Haven features a seaport, and one of the random events there is a large cargo ship crashing into a dock. In Recon Mission 2023, random events are available on four maps: Himmelsdorf, Ruinberg, Prokhorovka, and Safe Haven.

Currently, we do not plan to introduce random events on every map, although the list of locations that do feature them may expand in the future. Also, we are currently prioritizing integrating random events into Random Battles because it is the core mode of the game. In the future, we may implement random events in other game modes.


Random Events: Current State and Mechanics



While playing in the new Recon Mission 2023 mode, you won’t be able to miss random events. Before an event starts, you will hear a warning sound, at which point the event zone will be marked on the map and the minimap with a red border, and then a countdown will start. Before it reaches zero, it is advisable to drive your vehicle out of the event zone. The current penalty for not doing this in time is the vehicle’s destruction, but this may change in the future.

Recon Mission 2023 is just one of the stages of ongoing random events development. Moreover, certain features are for testing purposes only and will not carry over to the release. For example, every possible random event (two or three per map) will fire over the course of every battle, each within a designated narrow time frame. This most likely won’t be the case when random events hit Random Battles—they will occur at more random times (or sometimes not even happen at all) and will possibly be triggered by certain gameplay factors.

With random events being very important to their locations (as they change their topography drastically on the go), we will pay special attention to their impact on map balance. We will use the data and feedback from Recon Mission while fine-tuning the existing events and designing new ones.

Random events may be random in their timing, but when one starts, it unfolds according to its unique scenario. For each event, its sequence, the location and size of its danger zones, and the shape of new cover and passages will always be the same. Therefore, you can already learn how every event unfolds to use the tactical advantages it offers in the future.

In Recon Mission, the visual effects for random events are not final, their current quality being sufficient for a gameplay test. When random events become part of Random Battles on certain maps, explosions will be much more impressive, fires will burn brighter, etc.

We are aware that random events may be a strain on some lower-end systems. By the time they hit Random Battles, we will address this by optimizing their use of system resources on any hardware and adding their versions for lower-spec systems that will be less demanding on performance but the same in terms of gameplay.


Dynamic Cover



Every Recon Mission location will also have dynamic cover: map objects that can be moved by your vehicle while giving it additional protection. You can use these objects in a broad variety of tactical situations, and it’s important to distinguish between the two types of dynamic cover: indestructible and destructible.

  • Indestructible dynamic cover currently consists of railway carriages and wrecks of tanks (either with or without a turret). These objects may be hard to push around with your vehicle, but you don’t have to worry about them being dismantled by enemy shots.

  • Destructible dynamic cover includes cargo containers as well as small and large concrete blocks. Each of these object types has an HP pool that can be depleted with several shots. The exact number of shots needed to destroy an opponent’s dynamic cover depends on its remaining HP count and the damage output of your gun.

We plan to add more dynamic cover objects in the future. Currently, there is a limited number of them because we are testing the mechanics and want to make it easier for you to identify the objects that can be moved and destroyed.

Recon Mission 2023: The Progression



Getting into the top 12 by base XP (in your team) in Recon Mission battles contributes to your progression bar. To complete the event Progression, you need to meet these conditions in 50 battles. Among the rewards you receive for reaching certain Progression thresholds are days of WoT Premium Account, Personal Reserves, directives, medals, and a special 2D style!


The Progression will be reset after the first week of Recon Mission (on May 22 at 10:00 CEST (UTC+2)), so you can complete it twice—and get double the rewards!

The Questionnaire



You can fill in the general questionnaire after having played 20 Recon Mission battles in which you were among the top 12 players on your team by base XP earned. There are also four map-specific questionnaires that unlock after you play eight battles on the given map (while also being among the top 12 on your team by base XP).

The set of questions you can answer has been reworked and expanded compared to the previous Recon Mission. In these, you are encouraged to give your opinions not only on the implementation of random events and dynamic cover on the available maps but also on the gameplay mechanics of these features, such as their randomness, timing, triggers, penalties for vehicles that fail to leave danger zones in time, and much more.

Call to Mars: Move Fast, Break Things, and Grab Prizes


While we’re getting ready to celebrate our second Anniversary on Steam, there is something we need to tell you, Commanders. Or should we say... Contractors?

From May 11 through May 22, your armored combat skills are needed off-world—on Mars. Recently, our orbiters registered a powerful signal coming from the surface of the planet. Regarding its source, we refer to it as the Object. We know it‘s alien-made and ancient but little else. And that’s where you come in: Get near the Object in your shiny Mars Rover, scan it from Research Zones, and accrue Points to receive your rewards!

Expect some competition from other Contractors—everyone is on their own, no-holds-barred. You cannot destroy your competitors directly, but the Impulse Gun of your Mars Rover can do wonders when you need to dispose of other vehicles. All in all, there’s plenty of high-tech gimmicks in your arsenal, plus some good old ramming. (Don’t worry, every operator is safe in the Martian orbit, and their Mars Rovers are remotely controlled from above.)

So welcome to the Project! You can respond to the Call to Mars via the artifact in your Garage, the mode selector, or the event banner.


Encounter Area



The Object is hovering above the Encounter Area, an old crater with very peculiar terrain. Along with red dust, there are deep chasms, complex rock formations that create natural bridges, and several magnificent pools of highly corrosive acid. The edges of the area offer breathtaking views, so it‘s easy to lose focus and fall off the cliffs—even without someone else‘s help. Overall, the scene is fascinating!


Mars Rover



Your six-wheeled research vehicle is fast, elegant, and bristling with innovation.


Default Abilities



Impulse: A shot that explodes on impact, knocking opponents away.

Boost: Accelerates the vehicle to gain ramming force or escape dangerous situations.

Mass Shield: Anchors your vehicle to the ground, protecting you from ramming or attacks by rival mercenaries.

In case your Mars Rover gets destroyed while you are competing, you’ll get a new one within five seconds in a random spot of the Encounter Area. The number of respawns is unlimited.

Powerups



30 seconds after the encounter starts and every 30 seconds thereafter, Powerups (manifestations of advanced alien technology) will pop up in various places across the Encounter Area. Here’s what to look out for:

  • Overcharge Shot makes your Impulse Gun reload much faster and increases the velocity and power of its shots. The power is drawn from the drive unit, so your vehicle cannot move while Overcharge Shot is active.
  • Force Field surrounds your Mars Rover with a pulsing energy wall, pushing other vehicles away and protecting yours from the effects of ramming (but not from the shots of other Impulse Guns).
  • Supernova creates a space-time anomaly that takes some time to form, after which nearby vehicles will get sucked into it, only to be forcefully ejected in random directions seconds later.

Powerups tend to appear in dangerous spots, like near acid pools or cliff edges. Exercise extreme caution when trying to pick up a Powerup, but don’t ignore them—they can help you deal with the competition quickly and in a most spectacular fashion.

You can only pick up one Powerup at a time. Once you activate it and its special ability expires, you can pick up another Powerup.


Objectives



Your contributions to the Project are measured in Points, which are awarded for the following activities:

  • Scanning the Object per the instructions given below (20 Points per second, divided by the number of Mars Rovers in the Research Zone)
  • Hitting other vehicles with Impulse Gun shots (5 Points) and ramming them (5 Points)
  • Obtaining Powerups (10 Points) and using them against other Mars Rovers (5 Points per hit vehicle)
  • Prevailing over the competition by dispatching others’ Mars Rovers (50 Points per vehicle)
While it’s certainly satisfying to watch a rival’s vehicle drown in acid, your primary goal is to scan the Object by parking your Mars Rover in Research Zones:

  • Research Zones spawn three times per encounter: at the 1:00, 3:00, and 5:00 marks. Just before a Research Zone appears, players get a warning with a countdown on the tops of their screens.
  • The first and the second Research Zones are smaller and last for 20 seconds each, and the third Research Zone is larger and lasts for one minute. When the third Research Zone expires, the encounter ends.
  • While active, Research Zones yield 20 Points per second, divided evenly between all vehicles inside them.

The fewer vehicles there are in a Research Zone, the more points each player will earn. So do your best to prevent other Mars Rovers from getting into the Zone. Be active, play boldly, experiment, and take risks!

All the Points for disposing of a competitor‘s Mars Rover are credited to the Contractor who was the last to interact with it.


Progression



The Points you score for every session of competitive research contribute to the overall Progression. It has 10 Stages, each with its own rewards, including bonds, Experimental Equipment, Personal Reserves, and a ton of new Mars-themed customizations to deck out your tanks. Moreover, at Stages 5 and 7, you get special Martian Containers, which have a chance to drop rare vehicles, days of WoT Premium Account, customization items, and more.



Among the rewards, you’ll also find the new Starship Squad 2D style.

Battle Missions



Over the course of the Project, special battle missions will be available daily. Answer the call to Mars and complete them to earn lots of Points and credits. Every day, two missions will be the same, and the third one will be unique, prompting you to try out different tricks during your intense exploration of the Object.

Call to Mars sessions don’t cost or yield you any resources by themselves, but completing special battle missions will be very lucrative, giving you a lot of Points and credits. (After you complete the Progression, the missions will stop bringing you Points but will score you the same number of credits.)

As we said in our launch article, the Community Shop will work in stages, each lasting approximately 2 months. The first stage ended on April 30, 2023, so now it’s time for a new one—with slightly refreshed rewards!

How Does It Work?



Every month, we are launching new Community events, be it Giveaways, rewards for following us on Steam Hub, or anything else. If you participate in these events and complete all the required steps correctly, you will earn a certain number of Community Tokens.

You can then exchange these Tokens in the Community Shop for various rewards that you need most at the moment. These include Personal Reserves, ×5 missions, days of WoT Premium Account, a 2D style, and more. Some rewards can be purchased for Tokens an unlimited number of times, while others are limited to 1-2 times per account.



You can save up your Tokens to purchase better rewards, or spend them as soon as you get them: the choice is yours! However, keep in mind that earned Community Tokens DO NOT transfer between stages. When a stage ends, all unused Tokens will disappear, so make sure to spend all of your Tokens in time!

How to Find the Steam Community Shop



  1. To find the Steam Community Shop, launch the game and open the DEPOT section.
  2. Then, find the HOMEFRONT SUPPLIES tab inside your Depot.
  3. Find the “Steam Community Shop” option in the HOMEFRONT SUPPLIES tab and click it to view all of the available rewards for purchase.

New Addition to the Shop: Missions for More Tokens



During this stage, you can invest your Tokens into special personal missions that will reward you with... even more Tokens! We added these missions to the Community Shop to give all players the opportunity to earn more Tokens whenever they want. These missions have quite simple conditions and can be completed by just playing the game. Enjoy!

Spring into the action with Update 1.20.1, Commanders!

It features the improved crew perk system and a new branch of Japanese tank destroyers. On top of that, this update introduces the Season of the Crimson Griffin in Onslaught. You'll also be able to experience random events and dynamic cover in Recon Mission, which will come later in May. Finally, you can assemble the Collection feature in Battle Pass and also purchase new slots in the Garage with credits. Scroll down for details!


Recon Mission: Random Events and Dynamic Cover



Random events and dynamic cover are parts of the Recon Mission mode, which will kick off in May. Each of these brand-new mechanics offers you a fresh gameplay experience and opens up new tactical opportunities on the battlefield.

Random events occur at a specific time and in specific areas of four maps: Safe Haven, Ruinberg, Prokhorovka, and Himmelsdorf. They change the environment around you and the combat situation on the battlefield, so try to use this to gain an advantage over your opponents!

Dynamic cover refers to various movable objects (e.g., shipping containers, concrete blocks, etc.) that you can use to protect yourself against enemy fire. Read the article below to find out more about both mechanics!



DETAILS

The Improved Crew Perk System



We're continuing to work on a comprehensive rework of the crew system in World of Tanks. Now all perks are available immediately once you start training them. The major qualification level now affects almost all perks (excluding Brothers in Arms). The higher it is, the stronger the perk effect.

There will no longer be an XP penalty when you finish a battle with injured crew members. Additionally, we've made crew interfaces clearer. Enjoy!

Battle Pass Collection



Battle Pass Season X features the exciting backstories of the Season's heroes. This story is told through the descriptions of various in-game goodies (e.g., crew members, progressive and 2D styles, and decals) that you collect as Base and Improved Rewards. These items are the Elements of the Collection feature. Simply progress in Battle Pass as usual to complete it!

Assembling the current Season's Collection will earn you extra Battle Pass Tokens (up to three in Season X). If you don't manage to complete the Collection in this current Season, you will be able to do so in the following Seasons by purchasing the missing elements with Battle Pass Points.
