Carmageddon Tournament Update

HIGHLIGHTS

  • New tournament: Carmageddon
  • New free Carmageddon tracks
  • New Eagle-R reward car

We're excited to announce a new tournament, and it's a very special treat!

If there's one game that perfectly blended racing and destruction, not to mention a wicked sense of dark humour, that's the original Carmageddon and its numerous successors. When we got a surprise chance to inject some of the Carmageddon vibes in our game we didn't need to think twice about it - Carmageddon inside Wreckfest is like a marriage made in heaven! So there you have it: the new update adds two iconic environments "Bleak City" and "Devil's Canyon" from the original Carmageddon, the infamous Eagle-R car and a healthy number of zombies to run over, all wrapped in the pixelated glory of the early 90s, perfect to release your inner Max Damage.

Let's start smashing some zombies!

Additionally, this release also contains a few additional improvements but we invite you to check out the release notes below for a complete summary of items fixed or improved upon. Unfortunately, the title also suffers from a few issues at the moment which we are going to address, and a list of those can be found below as well.

Enhanced Lighting and and Visual Effects Update

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Enhanced lighting and visual effects
  • Numerous improvements and fixes

We're excited to announce another major update!

The PC players now get to enjoy the definite Wreckfest experience with visual enhancements such as next generation bloom and screen-space sun shafts, parallax occlusion mapped skidmark decals, improved ambient lighting with spherical harmonic probes and more detailed shadows, not to mention dynamic dirt on vehicles and higher density foliage. We're confident to say that wrecking has never looked so great but in case you're sporting a more low-end rig, no need to sweat since you can tweak the quality of the more taxing enhancements or disable them completely in the game's Settings menu. While at it, we've also updated the networking code and squashed related bugs. Hurray!

Please note that since this update marks a major upgrade on PC introducing some file system related changes, it's possible that updating the game might not work without hitches. In case you receive the dreaded "data mismatch" error after updating, please verify the integrity of the game's files by navigating to the game's library page, selecting first Manage > Properties, then the Local files tab and finally clicking the Verify integrity of game files... button.

As always, we're also actively working on improving the gameplay experience based on the feedback so this this release contains numerous other improvements and additions as well. For example, the frustrating launch delay on PS5 is now gone and loaner vehicles work properly on PC whenever a host restriction is in place (please note that you do need an actual host in the lobby), but we invite you to check out the complete summary of items fixed or improved below.

Wrecking Madness Tournament

[previewyoutube="MGI8eR4s4TQ;full"]

HIGHLIGHTS

  • New tournament: Wrecking Madness
  • New free Wrecking Playground environment
  • New Speedbird GT tournament reward car
  • New Extreme damage mode
  • Improvements and fixes

We're excited to announce a new tournament, and this time it's something that's going to blow your socks off!

In 2013, we released the seminal tech demo "Sneak Peek" that gave you the first taste for Wreckfest (back then modestly called Next Car Game) and set the standard for our future endeavors. That was almost eight years ago, and now we're giving you the chance to relive the glory of that very tech demo! That's right - this update includes a new free track Wrecking Playground that's basically the tech demo reimagined, vastly expanded, improved and brought up to contemporary standards, not to mention that it's now available on all platforms. Not only that, but we also implemented a new tech demo inspired Extreme damage mode that cranks the visual damage knob all the way to 11 and disables gameplay health so you only get wrecked when you lose two or more wheels and the car is inoperable.

The tournament is themed around the Wrecking Playground environment, with the monthly event challenging you to score points by wrecking your car, destroying objects and getting airtime. To make sure you can really go to town with vehicular destruction, resetting the car will repair it instantly. The weeklies are timed events in which you need to collect the special Bugbear coins littered around the level as quickly as possible. And of course, since any tech demo remake wouldn't quite be the same without the iconic Speedbird with Next Car Game livery we're bringing it too back as a tournament reward.

And the best part? Wrecking Playground and the accompanying Extreme damage mode are both available in multiplayer as well. As a special trick, whenever the game mode is set to deathmatch or team deathmatch and damage mode to Extreme, single player or multiplayer, resetting will instantly repair the car just like in the tournament events so you can get the full Wrecking Madness experience with your friends as well!

As a standard practice, this release also contains a number of additional enhancements and bug fixes such as improved antialiasing and performance on PlayStation 5. We invite you to check out the release notes below for a complete summary of items fixed or improved upon. As always, thanks for all the feedback and please keep it coming!

Let's start wrecking!

We're excited to announce a new tournament and a brand new car pack!

This time around we're unleashing something very special: super truck racing! It's something that many of you have been hoping to see in Wreckfest, and for a good reason too since combining the all-out destruction oriented gameplay of Wreckfest with powerful trucks shredding the dirt is really a match made in heaven. The main event of the "Super Truck Showdown" has powerful off-road trucks ripping the dirt and battling for the win on a bumpy off-road track winding its way along treacherous mountain slopes of the fresh out of the oven Rattlesnake Racepark venue, with monthly events offering even more opportunities to experience the excitement of super truck racing on both dirt and tarmac. As a cherry on top, in case you happen to be a fan of base game cars, you have all the reason to be excited because the tournament shop has a new off-road racing themed bundle for Hotshot, an old fan-favorite!

And if you can't get enough of off-road racing during the tournament, we have some thrilling news for you: the latest DLC "Off-Road Car Pack" not only contains the eponymous star of the tournament, Trophy Runner, but also two other rocking mean machines that do equally well on tarmac as well. Trooper is a legendary American piece of steel that is built to last and will take you to off-road hell and back without breaking a sweat, Trophy Runner is a reincarnated workhorse from the Asia that some say is indestructible, built into a super truck that will give anything a run for their money on both dirt and tarmac, and Sandstorm is a custom beast that eats dirt like there's no tomorrow, and excels on twisty dirt and tarmac tracks with tight corners!
