Patch note 2.074: Gameplay and ergonomics

Summary:
This update concentrates on the many feedback we received on gameplay and ergonomics of the game, while next updates will bring you the server browser mode.

NEW FEATURES



Walk In the Field v2


Walk In the Field (WIF) has a new mode. Press T (like Tactical) to enter the Captain training mode. You will be able to prepare your team strategy on different layouts:
- Players’ roles
- Position to go for each player
- Position to shot for each player
Press T again to go back to walking mode.
At anytime, press F12 to save on Steam your strategy. You can share it if you want to get community or friends feedback.
IRL team captains and coach can of course use WIF and F12 to prepare competitions.

HUD



  • New main Menu:
    - Quick Game

    - Old grey disabled menus have been deleted
  • New Leaderboards menu:
    - By % win
    - By number of game played

  • My profile / Stats: Now stored on Steam instead of your PC. As a consequence, your stats can follow you whatever PC you use.

    - Max chain (not yet available)
  • Settings:
    - Full screen (into the ingame settings menu, not into the main menu settings)
    - New key bindings with more options.
    - Possibility to use other control than left and right mouse button to shot.


Gameplay



  • Increased and harmonized speed moves, following community requests, for example on www.pbnation.com, posted by Pantherspaintball.
    Thank you for your comments (especially for strafe, which is very fast).
  • Cover mode improvement for a better understanding: When you enter Cover mode (pressing SHIFT), the FOV is modified and precision is improved by 15%. The gun position is also centered to offer more accuracy.
  • When you are moving and shooting, your accuracy is now lower than if you are standing, as requested by mafiahalo93 http://steamcommunity.com/app/377510/discussions/0/2592234299563798449/
  • Default role is Shooter (green), while it was before Communicant (bleu).
  • V control: Prototype of a communication tool for the team. Choose an instruction to share.
  • B Control: Prototype of communication tool. Choose a target to focus your teammates on.
  • Dev note: We continue to improve the HUD and Gameplay to have a good gaming experience when playing behind a bunker (cover mode), instead of running and shooting non stop. This is a very important part of the natural gameplay of the paintball we want to experience in the videogame. This changes the traditional FPS experience, and probably your habits, but we think this can make a positive difference when perfectly balanced. Thanks for your feedback.


Ergonomic


We had much community feedback on this point. This patch contains the following improvements:

  • When you are leaning in cover mode, for ex SHIFT+W for lean left, you can now immediately strafe simply releasing the SHIFT key. You don’t need anymore to click again on W to strafe left. Idem for right strafe, go ahead or backward.
  • Hand switching control remains CTRL+S, but also available with direct “3” key.
  • We removed the FPS head shaking when running, as required by some of you.
  • The marker position has been improved, following community requests. It is now more centered for better sight.
  • New marker animation when walking or running.
  • You can now strafe when lay down.
  • Captain instructions redesigned to help beginners to master the captain strategy tools. 3 animated frames are displayed for the captain before every match.

  • We also introduce a Tutorial item in the main menu. You’ll find some videos inside. Please tell us if this is helpful. If yes, we will add other ones.


BUG FIXING



  • 90° avatar rotation at the match start.
  • When a player is shot, he now disappears immediately.
  • It remains a bug of marker entry in the bunkers when lay down.

We are taking all your feedback on the game and its price very seriously.

The Steam Summer Sales closed yesterday had quite a positive impact on the game community and we succeeded in having 5v5 sessions with new players.

Combined with the fact our game is early stage, it leads us to think about a significant regular price modification.
Our update road map remains a priority for us, and we are confident with our ability to deliver a very cool gameplay very soon.

Hello XField Paintball Community

We heard you loud and clear.
XFP3 is still « early stage ». No doubt about it.
Updates are quick and regular but the price does not match today’s early stage and perceived value of the game, which generates some frustration. We understand and will address this subject. For all these issues and inconveniences, we do apologize and will make our best effort to fix it.

How?



- First, we want to warmly thank our early adopters.The dev team is working on a special reward to thank them for the support and their patience.
- We will participate to Steam Summer Sales, starting June 30, with a very significant « early stage » rebate to bring more players, have more matches played and make more modes available. Price will be USD $9.90 starting June 30 until July 5 (June 30 is the first date we are allowed to change price).
-Updates will be quick and regular. The next big updates will include playing with friends (server browser), achievements and scoreboards; new animations are well underway. We updated our store page with our short-term roadmap.
We are a small hardworking indie studio that took a lot of time building a multiplayer engine with paintball physics and a low latency server infrastructure. Now is the time to bring more features and polish the gameplay.

New mode



Walk In the Field (WIF)


Walk In the Field (WIF) was XField mobile app that made walking the coming competition layouts possible.
In real life, paintball players need to take time to walk on the field to identify the best fire lines, key obstacles, how to defend/attack and bunkers set-up that present risks and opportunities.
It is now a permanent feature in XFP3, starting with coming competition layouts NXL Atlantic City and Millennium Series London Campaign Cup.
The feature let you choose your layout and walk alone.
Non-competition players, or beginners will have the opportunity to check alone all the moves and practice parabolic shooting.
This first version of WIF is available in Quick Game menu / WIF. Will be added to main menu soon.

HUD



  • Settings / Controller: You can now save your own setup.
  • Settings / General: Music control not completely fixed yet. Click on back arrow on top left, instead of Cancel to quit this menu.
  • Captain instructions: A / D controls (change player) and Left click (position to go instruction) / Right click (position to shot instruction) help pictogram.
  • Space bar function instructions when approaching a bunker (cover mode).
  • Settings Menu in game access removed. Now Settings are only available from Main Menu.
  • Improved Kill Cam.


Gameplay



  • Increased speed when walking and running.
  • New Cover Mode: When you approach a bunker, click on Space bar to automatically use the right position: For example, Crawl on beams (small and long bunkers).
  • Shift control (cover mode) more efficient: WASD controls then become Cover mode control (lean, snap, and change hand) with bigger amplitude.
  • Dev note: We continue to improve the HUD and Gameplay to have a good gaming experience while playing behind a bunker (cover mode), instead of running and shooting non stop. This is a very important part of the natural gameplay of the paintball we want to experience in the videogame. BUG FIXING



  • The communication gauge for « blue » Communicant profile can’t be used during the first 10 seconds. In 2.04, it was flashing during this 10 seconds and it was looking like a bug. Now it's a normal gauge filling up in 10 seconds. (Reminder: It uses 3 X-Talk on 5 available).
  • The in-game lower left pictogram informing you on your gamer profile was mixing wrong information. Now, you have the right pictogram.
  • A player who didn't move was invincible. Fixed.
  • Keybinding are now correctly saved.
  • Marker reload animation was appearing randomly. Fixed.

We invite players to share on Steam a screenshot of their prebank strategy. Loic will give personalized comments and coaching advises.
