Patch 15 - BoP the Builder!

In this patch we are introducing a new building system to the game. Old structures have been removed and replaced by new ones. The new construction system is based on Pillars and based on how and where you placed them you will have different construction options. The new system allows you to create much cooler structures, give you more freedom and possibilities and also allows you to preview these options and see the structure how it will look like before actually building it. Within the next weeks we will add even more structures to this new system and give you more possibilities to update your construction elements. The gathering system also has been revised and balanced to give more importance to the "where do i build?" factor. Before it simply did not matter too much where you placed your base since you got all resources pretty much everywhere - this now changed. While you still receive some ores from the dynamic spawns the chance to actually gain ore is much lower. Instead, you should look for the new static stone-spawns that have a much higher chance of giving ore.

Patch Notes:

Update 14 - You naughty Egg-Thiefs! (AI & PvP Patch)

In this patch Beasts of Prey receives a fully reworked AI for the dinosaurs and some additional game-mechanics for PvP. The AI has been upgraded to make the game-world more immerse and fun, Dinosaurs started to hunt in packs, roam through the game-world and no longer run into each other or run through your walls.

Additionally to these upgrades the flag system has been changed to a capture & hold system. You can now capture land by capturing other players land. When you capture a flag all buildings in it's area will be yours. Doors, Gates, Tents and Turrets will be yours, personal items like the metal safe & beds will not change ownership but can be destroyed or picked up (just like before). You can now also destroy foundations with flags again - so in the end it's your choice to either conquer an outpost or destroying it!

Changes:

- Flags can now be captured. All structures in it's area will change ownership with the exception of the metal safe.
- Based on your skills you can only build a maximum of 5 flags in an area, however you can have more than 5 flags by capturing other players outposts.
- Skills Expert Builder 1 and Expert Builder 2 are now working as intended.
- Eggs are more rare.
- Dinosaurs will remain much longer in the game-world. Even after you stole the egg.
- The Spinosaurus has been (re-)added to the game.
- Fixed loot-drops on dinosaurs. After killing the inventory should open once you are close to its head.

Patch 10 - Rise of the crafters

Today with patch 10 our game changes a lot. First off, the days of loosing nothing on death are over. We enabled full inventory drop and while this might sound dramatic at first we are confident that with the new mechanics in place surviving in our game is still easier than in other survival games. The main reason why we think so is the metal safe, this item allows you to securely store your items - even when it's destroyed. When destroyed you can rebuild it and your items will still be there. So when you are heading out of your base think carefully what you take with you and how long and how far you will venture out.

With the changes it also matters a lot now where you are building your base, while it might be great to build on water for protection you cannot build mining drills there which means that you still have to leave your base to either reach your mining outpost or look for rocks to manually mine. Mining drills are much slower than manual mining, but they provide to you at a constant rate and you build your base around it for maximum protection.

To increase your protection we have added the first automated defense turret that will open fire to everyone who does not belong to your tribe either when it's getting attacked or when getting too close. It currently does not consume fuel or energy but this will be implemented at a later stage when we are adding generators to the game.

Oil Spawns are now random so if you found one you can decide if you want to defend for just a hour or a full day. It's your decision if you place the big oil tower you'll get the 10x amount of oil but you have to defend it for 24 hours as it takes a full day. Or you build the small oil pumps, they give you only a fraction of the oil but only need to be defend for 1 hour. Oil can now be refined in the refinery which will give you access to fuel (and plastic later). Fuel is needed by the mining drills and we intend to make more utilities depend on it. In the future the generators will supply your structures with electricity and will consume fuel as well.

Additionally we have added the rocket launcher to the game. It does much less damage than C4 but gives you the opportunity to attack defense turrets that you'll have a direct line of sight to and take down lower HP structures.

Based on your votes our priority in this patch has been the performance. We were able to increase it quite a bit by changing the procedual terrain engine and optimizing a lot of code. So instead of having your client constantly generate new terrain in the background we are now shipping a pre-made world which grows with each update. This way we still have procedually generated terrain and this allows us to add biomes like deserts, european forests etc. to the game. Also, if you are eligible for the extra key it will now show up in the login scene after logging in.

Early supports will now see their additional steam key in the login scene.

- If you die you now loose your inventory and a loot bag is spawned at your last position.

Patch 9.8 - PvP Rebalancing, C4, Metal Gates!

This is the first draft and HP values will change based on your feedback. We have increased the requirements of C4 so it's not a common item to craft. Building a base now using concrete and metal doors outside will make it indestructable from the outside to melee damage, the only way to get in now is when you leave the doors open or when they have a minimum of 2 C4s - which is not a ticket for base raiding unless you building only a 1-layer defense. Also attackers have to be carefull using C4 as they can destroy possible loot-containing items, so it's not smart to place it everywhere.

Changes:
- Fine-tuned stone spawning.
- Fixed a bug that allowed sky-platforms again. All platforms not having ground are getting deleted.
- Oil fields now despawn when depleted.
- Admins can now send admin messages to the running game using the Web-Interface of smartFox. (Activate the web-server in your configuration)
- The oil-tower will now despawn when the resources are depleted and no oil is left in it's inventory.
- C4 is in-game now, doing 8000 HP of damage to all structures in a 10m area.
- Added the Metal Gates, 22000 HP, explosive. needs 30 iron ingots to be crafted.
- Concrete Wall now needs 26 stone.
- New C4 requirements : 2 Copper Ingot, 4 Metal Wire, 4 Sulfur, 4 Coal, 2 Beryllium Ingot, 2 Gold Ingot, 6 Oil.
- New Hitpoints for all structures to balance C4 and melee damage. (See below)
- Rockets are temporarily disabled until we introduce the rocket launcher.

- Wooden Door, 7000 HP, melee explosive
- Wooden Stairs, 1000 HP, melee explosive
- Wooden Wall (Window), 7000 HP, melee explosive
- Tanning Rack, 500 HP, melee explosive
- Tablesaw, 500 HP, melee explosive

We are placing Oil fields now manually every 2 days in the game until we have the algorithm ready. Server admins can now do the same. Login to your server using the chatwindow with /admin and enter /spawnoil. An Oil field will spawn infront of you.

Because of the changes above we are very sorry to inform you that we have to wipe the official server again. Main reasons are the introduction of metal gates, C4, concrete walls only taking explosive damage, floating platforms (bug), existing C4 in the game (some people had gathered already a lot of oil), pre-patch requirements of C4. So as you can see there is really now way to avoid it this time. We know we promised you not to do wipes anymore but with the broken mechanics and bugs we rather give you a fresh start again. So again, we feel truely sorry about this.

It would be great if some of the PvE community members could try out the new version on the official server as we are very interested in seeing how the balance between PvP & PvE is now.

Tomorrow we will gather all information from the forums and count your votes for the upcoming coding-event. If you like we can maybe also do some sessions on twitch where you can watch and comment on the development.

PvP Mechanics - Your feedback please!

Hello everyone,
we've been thinking about the current PvP Mechanics and i believe we can change the mechanics of PvP / Building to this new concept quickly. So please help us finding any loop holes in this. One major issue is right now that you cannot go offline for too long leaving your base unguarded, so we thought about this :

Either
a) all structures in unclaimed/non-contested zones are indestructable. Oil and other spawns will spawn randomly every day here and there, turning the zone and all it's structures into a combat zone/destructable objects. That way you can build and go offline safely, and PvPers can focus on finding oil/combat zones to fight/conquer land. Oil resources will be limited and once depleted the oil well will vanish again and the zone becomes a free/non-combat zone again.

b) Same as above, but only platforms/concrete walls and door elements are indestructable.

If you see any loopholes in this mechanic please let write them here, but i personally believe this way we can get a decent PvP mechanic up. Oil wells would only spawn every 48 hours for example also limiting the amount, making it a more rare resource.
