Capsular out now!


After 10 months and 15 days Capsular has been finally released into Steam Early Access for 7€ or your regional equivalent. This is only the beginning of my journey with Capsular. In this Blog post i want to talk about the future of the game and then the update schedule i want to follow. So let's just dive in!


Update schedule:


I plan to release a new Capsular content update every friday of the week. Using this schedule i hope to keep the game fresh and new for a very long time. You can expect new maps, weapons, items and gamemodes while the game is in Early Access.


Futue Content:


While developing Capsular i made quite a large list of features i would like to include.
Here is a short list of things i would like to include in the 1.0 version of Capsular:

  • Dedicated Servers
  • A fixed spread system to spread based weapons (Shotgun and Maschinenpistole)
  • A coop gamemode where you fight with awesome weapons against hordes of enemys
  • Gamepad support
  • A global leaderboard with prizes
  • Atleast 3 more Maps
  • Modding support (For custom weapons, gamemodes, maps etc)
  • More things you can buy (Capsule skins, Postcard backgrounds, Custom Slide trails etc)
  • Linux and Mac support


Please keep in mind that none of these are set in stone. They only represent my wishlist for the games future content!

I am very open for feedback and would love to hear about the ideas you guys could have!


I hope you will enjoy your time with my small game. Its been quite an adventure so far and Capsular really is a passion project for me.

Capsular Development Blog #14


Welcome to the 14th Capsular Development Blog. This week has been super exicting for me because i could work on a new gamemode i always wanted to implement.

Here is what i have worked on this week:



  • Gungame
  • New Skins
  • Possible Release Date



Gungame


I implemented a gungame gamemode. Gungame is a gamemode where after you frag enough players you will be rewarded a new weapon to use. You go from the best weapon in the game to a melee Milk Bottle(Yes it breaks and has fluid physics.Incredibly importand!).
But if you die you will loose half of your progress to the next level and if your progress is below 0 you will level 1 weapon down. I implemented the downranking feature because capsular dosent have that many weapons and the rounds would be too short to have fun!
Gungame has full bot support and can be played on any map!


New Skins


I also added a few new skins wich are available for purchase now in the capsular item store(Ingame gold only ofc).
















Possible Release Date


The game is shaping up nicely. All thats really left todo is to implement my dedicated server system wich will hopefully be available at the release of the game. Oh what is the release date of the game ? Right now my plan is to release Capsular on the 27th of April 2018 into Steam Early Access for 7€ or your regional equivalent! Please keep in mind that this is NOT a set in stone release date. I dont like pushing myself too much and then releasing a half working broken mess. If i need to delay the game by another week i will make sure to let you guys know!

Capsular Development Blog #13


Welcome to the 13th Capsular Development Blog. This week i worked on a First Win of the Day system, A Server notification system, Playerslot system and i added Playericons to the scoreboard and round end.

First Win of the Day:


I added a first win of the day system wich will grant bonus gold and exp if you win a round in Capsular. I made it so i can tweak the bonus gold and exp values inside by backend system, so balancing how much bonus gold and exp the players get should be very easy. The way it works is that once you login you will see a notification underneath your steam avatar if you have your first win of the day available. After you used your first win of the day the bonus will be locked for 24h indicated by a timer. I hope this system will encourage players to play atleast 1 round of Capsular daily.



Servermessages:


I made it posible for me to display global server messages. So if a patch is causing problems i can prevent everyone from playing the game. Or notify the players that a feature is broken and a hotfix is on the way.





Playerslots:


I increased the number of bots you can have on a server. The new max is now 11 bots. If you set your Max Player slots to 12 you will be able to add 11 bots. Players always have a higher priority then bots. So if a player joins a server 1 bot will get kicked. If the player leaves again the bot will rejoin. So now you can host games with a lot of bots in it without the game dying. I also fixed that you can have more bots on the server then there are slots on the server.

Playericons:


I added little icons to each player inside the scoreboard. The icon background color will change based on the color of the player. The icon will always show the currently equiped cosmetic. This makes it more easy to identify players on the server.


Even bots got icons!

Capsular Devlopment Blog #12


Welcome to the 12th Capsular Development Blog. This week i release a pretty big and importand update so let's just dive in.

Weapon Skins:


As you might know in Capsular each round you earn coins that you can spend on items. This week i added multiple groups of items to the game. For now you can buy Hats, Weapon Skins and Announcerpacks.

Some really talented people helped me to create new announcer voices for the game. You can now buy different announcers to customize your Capsular expirience.

Capsular Development Blog #11


Welcome to the 11th Capsular Development Blog! This week i worked hard on improoving the look of the Germany map. I also began working on Weapon Skins and Announcer packs.

Germany improvements:



I worked hard this week to detail the new germany map to make it look pretty.

Capsular Development Blog #10


Welcome back to the 10th Capsular Development Blog. I was pretty busy this week but i got a lot done!

Chat Commands


I added Chat Commands to the game. You can now Kick and Ban people from your server. I added a "/help" command wich will list all available commands and explain what each of them does.
For Dedicated Servers all banned players will get stored inside the server files in a JSON format. This allows server admins to better manage there userbase.


Map Changes


I adjusted some maps to better suit the new Walljumping mechanic.

I extended germany with a new pickup spawn location. I added a wall infront of the pickup spawn location so players can walljump over it. Giving you the upper hand.




This area was previously inaccessible but i opened it up for walljumping. This is a quick route to the new pickup spawn location.


I removed the upper walls of the middle dojo area to improove visibilty. I addition to that i added another jumppad so players can use it for sneaky suprise attacks.



Improved UI


I cleaned up some of the User Interface a bit. The User Interface runs and looks better now.







In addition to the better User Interface i added tooltips to the various settings options. These tooltips will explain what the setting does in detail



New Particles


And now to the most importand bit. I added a few more particle effects to the game.

Capsular Development Blog #9


Welcome to the 9th Capsular Development Blog. Ive got a lot of feedback from my playtesters so i got lots to show.

This week marks the end of the 2 week Capsular Open Beta.



Overview:

Walljumping:


This week i added Walljumping to Capsular. Walljumping enables you to jump off a wall to gain height and to suprise your enemies. You can perform a Walljump by pressing Jump while in the air near a wall.



Map Changes:


There were quite some changes to Thundercreek and Lab based on Beta Feedback.

I simplified the upper Shotgun pickup spawn to improve visibility and navigation.


Additionaly i chopped down some Trees because players kept getting stuck in them.


In Lab i changed the pit in the Factory area a bit to make it more clear that you will die if you fall into it. I added Toxic Waste and Barrels to the area. I also added a Geigercounter ambient effect to the area to make it more clear whats going on.


Colored Crosshair:


I added the ability to change the crosshair color of each weapon.


Beta Feedback:


Now i got quite a lot of Beta Feedback these 2 weeks. I changed the volume of your own footstep sounds to be a bit more quiet since some people thought it was too loud. I also added the Ability to cancel your Slide midslide. You can choose to cancel the slide by releasing the slide key or by pressing the slide key again (Changeable in the Settings menu).

New Cosmetics:


I added a new TVHead cosmetic into the game. This Cosmetic is of Outstanding(Legendary) Quality and changes expression based on what your doing.

Capsular Development Blog #8



Welcome to the 8th Capsular Development Blog. This week i got something super exciting to share with you. Not ONLY do i have a new Map to play on, today also marks the first day of the Capsular Open Beta! More on that later.

New Map


This week i worked on a new Map called Germany! Wich is a remake of an old Map back in the Prototype version.
Here are some pictures of the Map. The Map will be playable in this weeks Beta!











Custom Crosshairs


You can now define a custom Crosshair for EACH Weapon inside Capsular. This is only the beginning of the system. Later i plan to implement a custom Crosshair creator simular to CSGO's Crosshair system.



First Capsular Open Beta


Today is the first day of the Capsular Open Beta! This Beta will run from 09.02.2018 19:00 (UTC+1) to 16.02.2018 19:00 (UTC+1). To sign up to the Beta you need to send a Private Message to the Capsular Twitter or join our Discord and post a message inside the "beta-sign-up" channel. You will receive a special Beta key for Steam that allows you to play the game until 16.02.2018 19:00 (UTC+1). After wich i will revoke all of the Beta keys.
