Big update of many small things

Hello there,

I'm still working on making Card Hog a better experience for you and here's what changed in the latest update.

  • Decreased boss pool requirements for Disco Alien and Spider Queen
  • Increased Alien Crash Site spawn chance
  • Buffed gold shrine by increased gold reward and tying minimum reward to shrine upgrades
  • Cleaver and Knife throw skills can now be reused (with damage decay) if they land on an empty card
  • Cleaver and Knife throw skills now damage friendly cards
  • Picking up a skill now targets a card in front (or behind if hog is near the wall) instead of targeting the hog itself
  • Picking up certain skills (like snipe) should now auto-target one of the valid targets
  • Informational popups when stepping on spikes or poison puddles will only appear 2 times during a play session and disappear completely after you disarm 25 traps
  • Sounds added for enemy attack targeting, fridge open, fridge break, mission taken and well used
  • Escape button now closes NPC shops
  • Escape button now correctly follows user interface "crumbs"
  • Added more invalid selection feedback to blacksmith and assassin menus
  • Added deck button highlight when a new card is added to the deck
  • Made skill targets a bit more visible
  • Made hover position on invalid skill targets clearer
  • Fixed a bug which caused handless hog in character selection menu
  • Fixed a bug which broke pause menu <-> leave confirmation keyboard navigation
  • Fixed some issues with workshop menu navigation
  • Fixed a bug where card targets would overlay deck UI

Can I ask you something?

  • Try out online multiplayer
  • Send me more feedback

Thanks! ːchslimeː

Town bug fixed

  • Fixed a bug which would throw player out to the menu when entering towns

Autosave optimizations and network sync fixes

  • Made a massive improvements on autosave performance
  • Resolved multiple network game sync issues

Quick fix for interface related crashes

  • Fixed some (hopefully all) navigation crashes
  • Slightly improved performance of the autosave

If game does lag every turn, easiest way to resolve it for now is to disable auto-save. Rewriting the save system is a huge and risky work, so I'm not sure when I'll have time to do it. Due to some technical engine and my code limitations I can't do asynchronous saving just yet.

Let me know if you run into any issues with this update!

Crash quickfixes and breaking Steam multiplayer*

Hello there,

So I had to rush this update out, since there were quite a few nasty crashes happening in tutorial and shop UI (thank you for reporting them)... and in turn I had to remove Steam multiplayer functionality and add CROSS PLATFORM MULTIPLAYER instead!

Which means two things:

  • You can't control lobby in the Steam overlay
  • You can play with friends that don't own Card Hog on Steam

For those who don't know, Card Hog is available on mobile (only Android version has multiplayer functionality at the moment and it is a bit broken, but I will fix it today) and I did upload a temporary multiplayer-only web version here: http://play.snoutup.com/.

  • Temporarily replaced Steam multiplayer with full blown cross-platform play
  • Fixed a pretty random tutorial crash
  • Fixed a crash related to keyboard/gamepad UI controls
  • Massively improved online gameplay responsiveness (no more locks) and stability

I would LOVE some feedback on the current multiplayer mode(s), so try playing with a friend ant let me know what I could improve!

Cheers!

Online multiplayer is back!

  • Added Online Coop back to the game!
  • Added multiple new outfit elements
  • Online games now fully support outfits
  • Added a "danger" indicator for traps and enemies that switch their states
  • Improved visual feedback when a card gets damaged
  • Improved visual feedback of card shop purchases
  • Fixed slimes not showing they have a coin inside
  • Fixed a scroll glitch in outfit selection

My current goal is to get Card Hog out from Early Access by the end of this year, so let's see how that goes. It will likely mean that I will push one major promise like Story Mode to the future content updates.

See you soon!

Customizable outfits and more sounds

Hello there,

I know I know, it's been a while again. I have few excuses for being over a year late on some of my Early Access promises, so rather just tell you what's new

  • Customizable outfits* (click the cog on a hog in character select)
  • More sound effects added

* there will be much more outfit pieces coming soon and feel free to suggest your own ideas

This changed a lot of game code too, so please report any bugs or visual glitches you can find! Also, current unlock requirements are temporary, a lot might change in the future.

Cheers!

Custom Games

Happy New Year!

Hope you're still here! I'm back (somewhat) and finally managed to wrap up somewhat serviceable Custom Games rollout! Hop on to Workshop section of the game and click EVERYTHING to see what can be broken in new Custom games as well as reworked Custom Decks (there can be multiple of them now).

Yes, there are a few EVENTS (!) you can add to spice up your custom runs, but I wouldn't touch them... too much. I'm still figuring that part out.

UI will be improved, bugs fixed and I hope this will turn out into something pretty fun.

Looking forward to your feedback. Will write more... in the future.

Cheers!
