Beta 1.4 - Tweaks & Balancing



A lot of small changes in this one aimed at balancing the game. Also a few new things!

BETA 1.4 Change List



New Features

  • Items unlocked via challenges in the Outfitter now have a tooltip explaining that they're unlocked via a challenge

  • You can now travel downwards in ascension fields
  • Boss souls can be absorbed

Tweaks

  • Less human characters spawn on each level
  • Kullos are less bouncy
  • Bosses have less health on lower levels & more health on higher levels

  • Magic projectiles (from Gold Wand & Magic Bombs) are less random & more intelligent
  • Explosive projectiles can now also pierce & ricochet
  • AI characters now have a better understanding of ascension fields

  • Spikes deal 80 damage instead of 100

  • Chargers shake a little before charging
  • Crystal Skull shield now lets projectiles & throwables out, but not in

  • Crystal Skull shield now also blocks beams, lighting strikes & explosions

  • Fire Totem expires after firing a certain number of shots, instead of after a timer

  • Crown Ring now stuns targets instead of causing explosions
  • Fire Wand can no longer harm the user
  • Skull Stick can be combined at Altars
  • Demonic Eyeball fires red lightning instead of a small bolt
  • Increased Butcher's Sword damage
  • Lightning Blessing no longer goes through blocks
  • Tenacious Blessing is now percentage-based
  • Traditionalist Perk gives you an extra ring slot

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed inventory not working with certain controllers
  • Fixed Sticky Bomb crashing the game if sticking to something after the thrower dies
  • Fixed Goliath fight starting before all characters have entered the room
  • Fixed Lightning Blessing not targeting orcs & bosses
  • Fixed multi-shot bows being broken by using Lightning Poles

Beta 1.3 - New Boss Rooms, Tweaks & Bug Squishing

Mostly bug fixes & tweaks for this one. Thanks for the bug reports & feedback on the first beta version. It's been very helpful :)

What's Next?


5 new bosses have been planned out & I'm getting ready to implement them. I also have some new rare enemies (I think there's enough common enemies now), and some secret areas on the way. I'm planning on remaking some of the old bosses, as well as adding some variations of existing bosses. Also, an improved tutorial is on the way alongside more story elements: you'll be meeting new characters and discovering new things!

A lot of this won't be added until the full release, the beta versions will primarily be tweaking, balancing and bug squishing.

Big Update Coming Next Week!

Jump aboard the hype train! Caveblazers is getting a big update this coming Monday! (21st November)

This update focuses on giving the player more choice, and different ways to become powerful. There are now opportunities to choose which blessing to receive instead of being stuck with a random one. There are also Altars in the game where you can combine 2 of the same weapon to create a "super weapon", meaning that ending up with duplicate weapons is no longer a hindrance.

There's also a whole bunch more content to look forward to including new enemies, new bosses, a scorching new area, new weapons & items, demonic blessings, challenges and more!

I hope you're as excited to play this update as we are to release it!

Hello! This is a relatively small update just to tide you all over while we wait for bigger features to be completed. These bigger features include new bosses, new enemies, a new area, challenges, shops, item combination alters, more perks, items, blessings, and a journal detailing monsters, areas & "things" as you come across them in the cave. Preview Build v0.3.2


A preview build is now available! This version features the first implementation of orcs.

Major Features



  • Orcs! These guys are hostile towards humans, friendly towards other monsters, and have similar AI and pathfinding to the adventurers in v0.3.1
  • Humans are now neutral by default and cannot be attacked. They will become friendly and follow you if you stick around with them for long enough, fight alongside them, and/or give them items.
  • Orc camps also spawn throughout levels, some will be as small as a simple campfire and a few orcs sitting around it, whereas others will be larger and sometimes contain treasure chests. You can sneak past orcs sitting at camps, but they will be alerted if they see you or hear any loud noises.
  • Special Orcs! There are currently 2 special types of orc which you may come across. In future, there will be many more, with different weapons, attack patterns, movement speeds, etc




How to gain access to the preview build

  1. Right click on "Caveblazers" in your steam library, and hit "Properties" from the dropdown menu.
  2. Navigate to the "BETAS" tab in the Properties window.
  3. Select "preview" from the dropdown menu under "Select the beta you would like to opt into:"
  4. There is no access code for this preview build, so you can now close the window and your game will update to the correct version.

A few notes


There's no quickslots for keyboard controls yet. Soon you'll be able to slot your items in the 1-9 number keys.
Also, there's no real introduction or tutorial for character customization & perks. This is something that will be added at a later date.

What's Next?


Next, I'm going to be looking in to overhauling the AI characters system, introducing a factions system with friendly humans & hostile orcs. See the topic in the Steam forums or on Reddit for more details and to add your input in to the idea.
