CreatorCrate Devlog: The Arm

I'm starting a weekly devlog where I talk about CreatorCrate and game development.

This week's topic is the player's grabber arm.[previewyoutube="yta2ZQVZsX8;full"]

Update 0.11.1

Changes for Zero Gravity Demo and Closed Alpha:

  • Pinger and Clacker enemies can be distracted with thrown items now.
  • Redesigned the starting area to give a more interesting intro sequence.
  • Major improvements to Clacker robot enemies to keep them from blocking the way.
  • Changed the Pinger Robot target found effect to be more interesting and clear.
  • Electrical traps are less deadly (they are still very deadly)
  • Added any key to skip messages for some transitions.
  • 1 wide platforms can no longer crush the player. Enjoy!
  • Run and jump particles play in zero gravity now.
  • Adjusted sound effect levels to be more consistent.
  • Fixed a bug where the player arm can get locked when swinging from lamps.
  • Prevented foreground details from generating where they can block important gameplay elements.
  • Fixed an issue with some things not showing up in map transitions.
  • Fixed a bug where you could pick up extra weapons from dead enemies.
  • Fixed an issue where the player couldn't quite get on top of a block from the edge.
  • Fixed colliders on Builder Boxes.


Changes for Closed Alpha Only:

  • Added a system of map markers and arrows to help communicate where players need to go.
  • Added signs to help guide the player.
  • Zoomed out the camera for Outside Station areas.
  • Outside Station areas have a subtle space dust effect to help show the player's motion.

Parallax Backgrounds Update

Update to the CreatorCrate Demo and Closed Alpha, with major improvements to the look of the game, including Parallax Backgrounds and signs in Line-Arc, the language of the world of CreatorCrate.

Change log:


  • Parallax backgrounds have been added.
  • Signs with Linearc writing are now in the game.
  • Mouse is now constrained to screen space
  • Box mode while swinging is no longer possible
  • Fixes have been made to swinging to prevent locking
  • Fixed an issue with resolution menu not indicating the current resolution properly
  • Fixed an issue with pigeons standing on retracted platforms.
  • Fixed an issue where the player falls towards knife in freefall.
  • Fixed an issue where guns aimed a little below the cursor position in high gravity.
  • Blastwalls scale with block width now.
  • It's a little easier to put an item on a weight switch now.
  • The Pinger enemy range has been decreased and they no longer lock onto you forever until you move away.
  • Added quality menu options for pigeons and parallax details.
  • More fine tuning made to the player controller
  • Adjusted picking up and grabbing to have more forgiving timing.

Zero Gravity Wall Running Demo is out!

The free CreatorCrate demo has updated to include a zero gravity wall running section.

We've also been working hard on game feel and visual improvements, including an infestation of passenger pigeons.

  • Movement is much more snappy.

Update 0.9.0

I've been doing a lot of behind the scenes work this month to improve general performance.

Human enemies in the game should respond much faster, and there have been many changes to improve their behavior.

New destructible textures! Update 0.7.2


  • Total rework of destructible block textures to make them cleaner, more readable, and generally more awesome. Variety of destructible blocks has also been increased.
  • Robotics theme rearranged and given midway checkpoint.
  • Improved the flow of the zero gravity section.

Better camera zooming to show how cute the CreatorCrate is when it holds a knife

  • Improved auto zooming for the camera.
  • Fixed issue with control remapping screen not closing properly
  • Fixed bugs related to some aspect ratios.
  • You can now wallrun on explosive canisters in freefall
  • Pinger should spawn in walls less now.
  • Rearranged starting area.
  • Fixed issue where starting area sometimes had access to outside station.
  • Better instructions for using knives.
  • Many other improvements and bug fixes.

CreatorCrate just launched a free demo on Steam!

Now you can get a hands on look at this fast paced physics platformer about a cute/bloodthirsty appliance and its quest for freedom/blood.

  • Finished changes needed to release a playable demo January 22nd
  • Massive improvements to the wire/electricity system
  • The broom is now the ultimate weapon.

  • Replaced deep destructible block and rubber textures with more finished textures.
  • Fixed bug where clackers were being worn as hats, which was against regulations.
