Crimson Tactics: The Rise of The White Banner

Crimson Tactics Devlog #084

Dragon mounts add a thrilling and unique element to the gameplay. They act as the epitome of destructive force on the battlefield, possessing the ability to exert control and deal damage over large areas in a battle. They are the excellent choice for controlling chokepoints or denying access to crucial objectives.

Hydra

A three-headed monstrous and malevolent creature that combines the awe-inspiring power of a dragon with the dark elemental affinity.

Special Abilities

All dragons have a unique set of special abilities based on their affinities. Here are some of the abilities of Hydra:

Channel Abyss

The Hydra buffs nearby allies' Physical Attack Power.

Abyss Breath

The Hydra launches a dense, dark magic breath leaving nothing but devastation.

Abyss Roar

The Hydra intimidates all surrounding units, dealing magic damage.

Abyss Charge

The Hydra charges into its target, pushing back the unit.

Abyss Dragon's Rage

The Hydra performs multiple stomps on the ground that makes ominous dark spikes erupt from below.

As a bonus, here is a funny clip of a bug we encountered during playtesting:

Crimson Tactics Devlog #083

Increasing the game’s speed and pacing was a highly requested feature during our previous beta. Hotkeys functionality has been added to the game and is also reflected in the UI. We plan on expanding this feature further but in its current state, it is greatly improving the game’s flow.

Action Panel Hotkeys

The Action Panel can now be accessed with Hotkeys. The numbers on the keyboard correspond to each option on the screen and ‘Tab’ is used to go back and for ‘End Turn’. These numbers are clearly visible on each button. Keep an eye on the Action Panel in the top-left corner.

Game Speed Hotkeys

The Game Speed can be changed using Hotkeys. The ‘<' button reduces the speed whereas '>’ increases it. Continuously tapping just one of these buttons also allows the speed to be cycled back. Keep an eye on the Game Speed in the top-right corner.

Menu Hotkeys

Pages and tabs in different menus can be changed with Hotkeys. Different menus have different tabs/pages so the controls differ for each one. This information is always reflected in the bottom bar.

Localization Update

We are planning to localize the game into the following languages:

  • French
  • German

Crimson Tactics Devlog #082

Crimson Tactics is a tactical turn-based role-playing game. RPG’s are complex games that can have a steep learning curve and are not immediately easy for players. These modes give new players a choice to play on an easier difficulty in order to acclimatize themselves to games of this genre, if they wish to do so.

Game Modes

Strategy Mode

Strategy Mode is the original, intended method of play. The game is harder with more enemies and slower movement. It is meant for genre veterans and players used to tactical, turn-based RPGs.

Tactics Mode

Tactics Mode is an alternative method of play. The game is easier with a smaller number of enemies and a higher range of movement. It is meant for newcomers to the genre and ease out the learning curve of the game.

Difficulty Modes

Automatic Difficulty

This mode dynamically changes the difficulty during gameplay. It adjusts to your style of play and depending on how good you are, it poses a greater challenge. Again, the intended method of play.

Manual Difficulty

This mode allows you to manually set a difficulty that will not change unless you change it through the Settings menu. This allows you to enjoy the game at your own leisure.

Even if cutscenes are complete in terms of animations and dialogue, a further coat of polish can be added using certain screen effects. This was also suggested by our beta testers which we have, now, finally been able to incorporate.

Screen Shakes

Screen Shakes help by adding weight and gravitas to characters or to the dramatic moments of the narrative.

Screen Flashes

Screen Flashes break up the visual monotony of a scene and serve as an indication of an important narrative beat.

Naming Screen

We have updated the naming screen with a fresh and dynamic look to it.

Skip Cutscene

One of the most requested features that allows the players to skip the cutscenes is now in-game!

Color Code in Dialogues

We are now highlighting the factions, locations and notable individuals in our dialogues, deftly guiding the player's focus more towards lore.

Crimson Tactics Devlog #078

Duelists are comprehensive warriors that are adept with short and long-range attacks. They are 1-verus-1 specialists and are most effective against isolated enemies.

Special Abilities

Duelists have effective Passives and Counters that aid them in being 1-v-1 specialists. However, they have a few effective Special Abilities as well.

Precision Strike

A true strike with unbending accuracy - an attack that is guaranteed to hit its target.

Ambush

A powerful attack that is deadlier when attacking a unit that has no allies around it.

Dual Strike

A double strike that deals damage using both Main Hand or Off Hand weapons on either one or two targets.

Crafting

Crafting will allow you to create new weapons, prepare useful potions that will help you in combat. This can be done by combining different raw materials that will be gathered as part of loot obtained from the battles.

Crafting Equipment

The blacksmith can help you in creating a wide variety of equipment if you have the required ingredients.

You can craft various types of equipment which includes some that are exclusive and unique to crafting.

Crafting Potions

The potionmaster can help you in crafting useful potions that may prove necessary to your survival at times.

You can craft various potions that can aid you well in combat by healing your units or even removing certain debuffs.

Raw Materials

Some of the raw materials that the player can obtain as battle loot can be shown here.

Crimson Tactics Devlog #076

Defend is an action that you can take to ensure your units focus completely on defending and saves them from harm momentarily. But like anything in the heat of battle, it is not foolproof and can be exploited by intelligent enemies!

Action Panel

A dedicated action called Defend has been added to the game. It is accessible from the Action Panel.

A unit must equip either a Shield or Tome in order to use it, which block physical and magical attacks respectively.

Choosing Defend

A unit uses one action per turn to use the Defend action. A unit cannot Defend if it uses long-range movement. It will block the first physical or magical attack that it receives but after that, the block is not guaranteed.

Executing Defend

Using Defend will block the first Physical or Magical attack that the unit receives but after that, the block is not guaranteed. Also, if the unit uses Defend with a Shield, it is still susceptible to magical attacks and vice versa. In case this happens, Defend fails.
